  2. GERMANY – Erdogan’s lawyer says has acted to get entire poem mocking Erdogan banned

    Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s lawyer said on Saturday he had filed a complaint in a bid to get a satirical poem mocking his client banned in its entirety after a court issued a preliminary ruling in May banning re-publication of parts.

    Comedian Jan Boehmermann recited a poem on television in March suggesting Erdogan engaged in bestiality and watched child pornography.

    Lawyer Michael-Hubertus von Sprenger said he had filed the complaint to a court in Hamburg and wanted to get a full injunction to replace the preliminary one as well as get sections that the court did not ban in May prohibited.

    When the court ruled in May to ban sections of the poem, it said this was based on the need to find a balance between preserving the right to artistic freedom and the personal rights of Erdogan. The six verses the court did not ban include references to Turkey’s treatment of minorities.

    The court in Hamburg and a spokesman for Erdogan were not immediately available for comment.

    Separately, in the western city of Mainz, preliminary proceedings against Boehmermann are underway as he is suspected of insulting a foreign leader. The German government had given prosecutors the green light to pursue the case against Boehmermann – a move which brought Merkel strong criticism.

    German-Turkish ties have been strained – both by the case and by Turkey’s outrage over a resolution passed by Germany’s parliament declaring the 1915 massacre of Armenians by Ottoman forces to be a genocide. That comes at a time when Germany is banking on Turkey’s help in stopping the flow of illegal migrants.

    Facebook is now free to track users’ internet activity regardless of whether they are signed into the social network after a Brussels appeals court dismissed an earlier ruling banning the practice.

    The Belgian Commission for the Protection of Privacy implemented a rule forbidding Facebook from tracking users’ behavior — such as engagement, likes, and shares — via cookies in browser plugins that collect data even if the user isn’t logged in. Facebook faced a €250,000 (now approximately $277,500) daily penalty for continuing the practice.

    Facebook originally obliged to the Belgian CPP’s rule, which was based on the European Union’s anti-data tracking privacy law, but then lost its court challenge on the matter.
    Today’s decision simply and purely means that the Belgian citizen cannot obtain the protection of his private life through the courts.

    In Thursday’s ruling, the Brussels appellate court ruled the agency didn’t have jurisdiction to institute a rule regarding Facebook’s operations, which has its European headquarters in Dublin.

    The raids took place in one of Italy’s largest Chinese communities, part of a booming textiles industry that is notorious for sweatshop exploitation. All of the suspects arrested in the police swoop are believed to be connected to the Chinese cultural association “The City of the White Stag”.

  6. Jewish leaders in Germany have come out strongly against a march of anti-Israel activists this weekend which in recent years has been marked by anti-Semitic incidents and even violence.

    Josef Schuster, the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and a vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, called it “shameful” that the Al-Quds Day rally would again be allowed to go ahead in Berlin this Saturday. He urged Berliners to join a counter-protest.

  7. The European Commission’s announcement that the EU-Canada trade deal will be concluded without the involvement of national parliaments has sparked debate at the EU summit in Brussels and was met with outrage in a number of countries.

    Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker reportedly told EU leaders on Tuesday (28 June) that the Commission considers the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) being an “EU-only” agreement and would propose next week (5 July) a simple approval procedure.

    The simple procedure means that it will be adopted only by the European Parliament and representatives of member states and not national parliaments.

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), talking to the press, said that the Commission can be overruled by the Council. “For Germany, I can say that however it ends we will ask for an opinion from the Bundestag,” she stressed, saying she favoured a mixed agreement whereby national parliaments have a say.

    French President François Hollande also opposed the Commission’s proposal and said national parliaments should be allowed to spell their verdict. “I am in favour of an EU-Canada deal, but I believe it is necessary to have debates in each of the national parliaments. That will certainly take longer, but it is part of what we should provide in terms of democratic control,” he said speaking to the press at the end of the EU summit.

    Bangladeshi terror group affiliated with IS reportedly led by Canadian

    Islamic State militants have claimed responsibility for the attack in Dhaka, but authorities are still investigating who led the hostage-taking that resulted in at least 20 deaths.

    One of the likely suspects: a terrorist group in Bangladesh that is affiliated with IS and is reportedly led by a Canadian.

    Tamim Chowdhury, who goes by Shaykh Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif, is a Bangladeshi-Canadian who is leading a militant arm with close ties to Islamic State, according to the Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star.

    Mr. Chowdhury is also connected with an IS study group, which cited him as the leader of the Bangladeshi IS effort. In the April issue of Daqbi, a glossy magazine published by Islamic State, Mr. Chowdhury called for a united country free of “deviant sects, who are busy misleading the masses.” The magazine identified Mr. Chowdhury as the “emir,” or ruler, of its Bangladesh branch.

    “I know that he’s from Windsor,” said Amarnath Amarasingam, a post-doctoral fellow in the Resilience Research Centre at Dalhousie University who specializes in radicalization and terrorism. “I know he’s the head of the ISIS group, or at least a pro-ISIS group, in Bangladesh.”

    Mr. Amarasingam said Mr. Chowdhury’s name came up repeatedly during his research in the community. “There were a few [people] who knew him from the mosque and from the social circles,” Mr. Amarasingam said. “He was a shy, skinny kid.”

    The Windsor Islamic Association, in a statement on its website from last month, said it has not received official confirmation of Mr. Chowdhury’s identity as head of the Bangladeshi group.

    Southern Spain is covered in crimes and problems from Muslims who have illegally entered Spain from Morocco. We received reports a few years ago that Spanish women in South Spain face rape from these illegal Muslims, who even get killed in revenge attacks by the victim’s Spanish relatives. That’s how bad it has gotten.

  19. Breitbart – Dhaka (AFP) – The jihadists who slaughtered 20 hostages at a Dhaka restaurant were members of a homegrown Bangladeshi militant outfit and not followers of the Islamic State group, a senior minister said Sunday.

    “They are members of the Jamaeytul Mujahdeen Bangladesh,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told AFP, referring to a group which has been banned in Bangladesh for more than a decade.

    “They have no connections with the Islamic State.”

    Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the killing of the hostages and two police officers during an 11-hour siege that ended on Saturday but the government has consistently denied that international jihadist groups are operating in Bangladesh.

    Police have released the names and photos of six of the attackers who were shot at the end of the siege. A seventh was arrested and is being interrogated by Bangladeshi intelligence officers.

    Khan said that all of the attackers were well-educated and most came from wealthy families.

    “They are all highly educated young men and went to university. No one is from a madrassa,” the minister said.

    Asked why they would have become Islamist militants, Khan said: “It has become a fashion.”

    Excuse me, but, is this not an oxymoron of biblical proportions (if you excuse the expression)?

    The Koran says that Jews who did not proprly acknowledge/serve Allah were turned into monkeys and pigs.

    A recent fatwa states that since non-humans do not pray to Allah, all people who do not pray to Allah are not really people but just animals/monkeys.

    (Yes, I get the flaw in the argument, but, please, let me complete this particular Islamic reasoning to its logical conclusion.)

    So, here we are faced with Curious George, a monkey, fasting for Ramadan.

    Therefore, by the same reasoning, all those who fast for Ramadan are monkeys!!!

    KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — A Catholic church in Petaling Jaya has cancelled an interfaith “buka puasa” event scheduled tonight after a complaint was made to the police.

    Activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi confirmed to Malay Mail Online that the Assumption Church, PJ, had cancelled the breaking of fast, which had 65 registered guests comprising mostly Muslims and Christians, on its own prerogative as a safety precaution, and that the police did not ask the church to do so.

    Earlier today on his Facebook page, Syed Azmi explained that police officers had visited the church to warn it of potential trouble over the planned event in Selangor during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

    “Someone made a police report and two police (one Muslim and one Christians) went to the church nicely and explain that tonight there might be an individual or group who would cause trouble.

    “Having weighing all options, the church decided to cancel the event. All in good faith,” wrote Syed Azmi, who was consulted by the church on whether it was following Islamic rules by organising the event to break fast with Muslims.

    Three men have been jailed for a string of sexual offences against a teenage girl in Oxford.

    The victim was plied with drink and drugs between the ages of 13 and 15 and passed around “like a piece of meat”.

    The offences included rape and indecent assault. On one occasion the girl was taken to woodland and told she would have her neck snapped.

    She was in the care system when the abuse started and it continued between 1999 and 2007.

  33. China to hold drills in South China Sea ahead of court ruling

    BEIJING (Reuters) – China will hold military drills around the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea, the maritime safety administration said on Sunday, ahead of a decision by an international court in a dispute between China and the Philippines.

    China routinely carries out exercises in the South China Sea, where its territorial claims overlap in parts with Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

    Tensions have been rising ahead of a July 12 ruling by an arbitration court hearing the dispute between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea in the Dutch city of The Hague.

    In a brief online statement, China’s maritime safety administration said the drills would take place from July 5-11, and gave coordinates for the drills that cover an area from the east of China’s Hainan island down to and including the Paracels.

    Other ships are prohibited from entering those waters during that time, it said, without further elaboration.

    The Paracels are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan.

    China has built a runway on Woody Island, the site of the largest Chinese presence on the Paracels, and placed surface-to-air missiles there, according to U.S. officials.

  37. BAGHDAD — At least 91 people were killed Sunday in two bombings in the Iraqi capital, including a large-scale attack claimed by the Islamic State group that killed 86 people — among them 15 children — in a central shopping district, officials said.

    The bombings demonstrated the extremists’ ability to mount significant attacks despite major battlefield losses, including the city of Fallujah, which was declared “fully liberated” from IS just over a week ago.

    The deadliest attack took place in the central Karada district of Baghdad, where a suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laded pickup truck outside a crowded shopping centre, killing at least 86 people and wounding up to 170 others, according to a police officer. He said the dead included 15 children, 10 women and six policemen.

    Yesterday, officials arrested a Tucson teen on charges of terrorism.

    The FBI and officials with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office arrested 18-year-old Mahin Kahn in Tucson, but he is currently being held at the Fourth Avenue jail.

    Earlier tonight, when our sister station, KOLD, called the Khan home a woman picked up and said “No comment.”

    But the Tucson teen has a lot of explaining to do behind bars.

    Threats of terrorism have been top of mind recently for many, but with the arrest of Mahin Khan, it seems to hit even closer to home

    “He’s been booked into the Maricopa County Jail on two counts, the first count is conspiracy to commit terrorism, and the second count is terrorism,” said Mia Garcia with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

  45. A Somalian rapist who overturned a deportation order has been jailed for brutally raping two more women in Birmingham.

    Dahir Ibrahim, 31, was sentenced ten years in 2005 after the first sex attack on a prostitute in Edgbaston.

    A judge ordered his deportation after serving his sentence, but he appealed and was later given leave to remain in the UK.

    Now Ibrahim, from Thornhill Road, Handsworth , has been jailed for life with a minimum of 10 years after raping two ‘vulnerable’ women within six weeks of each other in 2014.

  46. Right wing activists are being forced into hiding abroad as a result of France’s oppressive laws against free speech.

    Le Monde reports that a number of right wingers have been pressured to flee France to avoid arrest for “hate” speech. The newspaper notes that many of these are administrators of websites in the “fachosphere”. ‘Facho’ is slang, in France, for ‘fascist’.

    It describes the “fachosphere” as a “cloud of very active websites, blogs and forums which do their best to preach the ‘patriotic’ word on the web”. Le Monde says such websites “are hosted abroad, with the scarcely concealed objective of escaping French justice.”

  47. Days after a major breakthrough was achieved in the Jisha rape and murder case with the arrest of Assamese migrant worker Ameerul Islam, the Kerala police have booked him for bestiality as well.

    This came after the police claimed that there was video evidence against him which they had procured from another migrant worker.

    According to the Times of India, an informant had sent them a video of Islam having sex with a goat which was recorded by another migrant worker.

    TOI further reports that the goat was owned by an individual close to where Ameerul was staying at Perumbavoor. Ameerul’s face was not clear in the video, however, but eyewitnesses pointed to him.

    The goat was taken to a veterinary hospital in Thrissur later. “The genital organs of the female goat were injured. When questioned, Ameerul said he tried to injure the goat using a stone. But it looks like he used a sharp object, may be a knife,” a police officer told TOI.
