Deployment of a second US air carrier in the Mediterranean has been called to deter a Russian task force deployed in the region, a US official told the Wall Street Journal.
“It provides some needed presence in the Med to check…the Russians,” a military official in Washington told the WSJ. “The unpredictability of what we did with Truman kind of makes them think twice,” he said, noting that the new deployment demonstrates that the US Navy can be agile and adaptive.
Earlier this week, the highest-ranking officer on the USS Harry S. Truman carrier, Rear Adm. Bret Batchelder, told reporters visiting the carrier: “It is a demonstration of capability. That’s for sure.”
“There are undoubtedly folks who are watching that and this is just a graphic representation of what we’re capable of,” Batchelder said.
A French waitress was allegedly assaulted by two Muslim men for serving alcohol during Ramadan.
The woman, a practising Muslim of Tunisian origin, was working on the terrace of the Vitis Café in Nice when she was reportedly insulted by two passers-by on Wednesday.
The men are said to have started to abuse her when they saw she was serving alcohol to customers, The Times reported.

(John Robson should always be listened to, when he elects to explain something he feels worthy of the effort)
(Al Nusra is the group the Americans specifically asked the Russians NOT to bomb. Yet you can be jailed for sharing their propaganda?)
The 29-year-old man entered the country as an asylum seeker and managed to get a job working as a translator in the Bavarian town of Freilassing.
But he was arrested for being an Al-Nusra Front militant when photos were found on his phone during a security check which showed him wearing combat gear and wielding a machine gun. Islamist propaganda texts were also found on the device.
The man claimed that he had only taken the pictures on his phone so that he could escape from Syria by pretending to support the Islamist cause.
(It should be noted that he was not a psychiatric patient but was being treated for a neurological condition. So the excuse of madness for jihad cannot fly.
Thank you M., Wrath of Khan, Xanthippa, Oz-Rita, and really, a lot of great people and some I have lost track of, and for that I do apologize. I do recommend reading the links our good friends post to the daily links post. It contains a great deal of the news that comes in from the people kind enough and diligent enough to make sure our readers can see that news that our own media usually chooses to make sure we do not see, to the extent they are able.
Here is a top 5 list from the Rebel posted today which has some interesting materials and references. One of them was to a 2004 BBC documentary on Islamic antisemitism which could not be made today, even though at one point, they seem to claim that to a degree its due to Israeli treatment of Gazanians.
