There is a simple question that every critic of Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress on Tuesday must answer: should he rather wait, as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko did, and address Congress after suffering a crushing defeat? Or should Netanyahu hasten to warn America before disaster strikes, before a deal is done with Iran that cannot be undone?

The answer is simple. Poroshenko was warmly received by both parties–after the Crimea was lost, after Russian-backed rebels had begun waging war in the eastern Ukraine, after President Barack Obama had turned down requests for arms. He spoke movingly–but politely, challenging America to do more to help, hoping Congress and Obama would get the message.

2. Terrorists using eBay and Reddit to send coded messages: Mossad

In 1999, author Gordon Thomas took readers where they had never been before — inside the clandestine world of Israel’s spy agency, the Mossad. Now, in a new 2015 edition of his book “Gideon’s Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad,” Thomas adds two chapters about Israel during the Arab Spring. In this exclusive excerpt, he explains how the Mossad is using its new cyberwarfare department to track threats and attack Iran’s nuclear capacity.

Mossad’s cyberwar unit had its own slogan: “Tomorrow is zero hour.”

4. Authorities Target Baha’is in New Arrests

Intelligence Ministry agents raided a number of Baha’i homes in Tehran, Isfahan and Kerman and arrested 16 Baha’i citizens on February 16 and 17.

Though eleven of the 16 detained have now been released, the arrests are the latest in a systematic campaign of brutality against the Baha’is, Iran’s largest minority religion.

And, although Jewish and Christian Iranians also face persecution on a regular basis, because, as Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi has pointed out, “religion-based discrimination is woven through many Iranian laws,” Baha’i communities are often subjected to even greater restrictions and harassment.

  2. ISRAEL – Thousands of Israeli Arabs protest in Nazareth against Charlie Hebdo ruling

High Court of Justice ruled Wednesday political parties could distribute controverisal magazine

Thousands of Israeli Arabs marched Saturday in the northern Israeli city of Nazareth in protest over the decision by the Israeli Supreme Court to allow the distribution of the controversial Charlie Hebdo magazine, which publishes cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

The demonstration was organized by Islamic Movement Northern Branch and was led its leader Sheikh Raed Salah, as well as Ali Salam, the mayor of Nazareth, Mazen Ghanaim, the mayor of Sakhnin, as well as the chairman of the committee of Arab mayors.

Demonstrators carried banners reading “We are all for you, messenger of God.”

At the demonstration the Islamic Movement said that Israel and its courts are “trying to hide behind the claim of freedom of expression,” and that any “insult to religious symbols, especially to images of the prophets, cannot be considered part of freedom of expression.”

Deputy head of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Husam Abu Leil, said after the march that “this event is not an act of protest against the insult to the prophet Mohammed, but rather an insult against all prophets everywhere, including Moses and Jesus.”

“We are conveying a message to [Avigdor] Lieberman and the High Court justices who made the indecent decision, as well as to the entire Israeli establishment, which apparently is not pleased with the fact that the most common name in Israel is Mohammed,” added Abu Leil.

The Israeli High Court of Justice ruled last week that the satirical magazine was legitimate political material and that Yisrael Beitenu had the right to distribute it, overturning a decision by the Central Elections Committee.

The High Court of Justice on Wednesday ruled that Yisrael Beitenu could distribute the magazine as it is legitimate political material.

Justice Noam Sohlberg wrote in his decision that “there is no near-certainty, nor a reasonable or real possibility,” that the distribution of the magazine by the party could cause serious harm to the integrity of upcoming election, adding that “blocking distribution excessively undermines freedom of expression.”

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who is the head of Yisrael Beitenu, welcomed the court’s decision, posting on his Facebook page that it sent “an important message that Israel remains a Jewish and democratic state and that we do not submit to the threats and aggression of the Arab MKs.”

There have been several demonstrations in the Palestinian territories, notably in Gaza City in late January, where some 200 radical Islamists tried to storm the French cultural center and burned French flags.

They were arrested by the police of the Islamist Hamas, the de facto power in Gaza.

Depictions of the prophet are considered forbidden in Islam and the latest one has sparked angry protests across the Muslim world, some of which turned deadly.

    I have a special treat…..

    Its a photograph called ‘Stormfront”……..

    • Don Laird, Nice picture, but I take it you are unaware of the association most Internet users will make with the term ‘Stormfront.’

      • @DonC………..

You give a small collection of self absorbed, vicious losers too much credit Don………aside from being a lucrative source of revenue for an Ottawa lawyer who found “hate” in everything from breakfast cereal to long-distance calling plans, Stormfront is a little national socialist cancre that needs to live in order to remind us, in order to show us a physical manifestation of the lunacy and genocidal madness that wiped millions from the face of the earth, as Ezra Levant says, “lets keep them where we can see them”……..aside from that Storm Front is also a song, is also a series of songs including a folk song/commentary by Canada’s own Garnet Rogers, its also a barber shop quartet, its also an album by Billy Joel……and its also a breathtaking and magnificent photograph of a sailboat in a race, a brilliant shining sliver of time on this planet…….

But your point is well taken………

        • It’s aggravating when innocent and interesting words acquire these associations, but your post here is a good step in the direction of taking this one back.

          Great tune!

    • ‘Muslim scripture is ambiguous. The Koran is not organized as a logical treatise any more than is the Bible. It is sprinkled with “sword verses” as well as “peace verses,” and the proper interpretation or application of these verses has always been a subject of debate among believers and Islamic scholars. Great value is often attached to emulating Muhammad, who is not regarded as in any sense supernatural but rather as the greatest of human beings. He did kind and peaceful things but he also was a conqueror.’

‘The website TheReligionOfPeace.com monitors such terror attacks and lists 25,000 of them (in which at least one person was killed) since 9/11. The site is openly hostile to Islam, so it is not a respectable source.’

He’s being thorough and circumspect and I appreciate that, but these statements are unnecessarily hedging. Islam wears some clever masks, however once you remove them the scripture is not ambiguous at all. Perhaps there are scholars who are taken seriously in contemporary mainstream Islam who interpret the calls for jihad peacefully, but after you have looked at enough of the foundational texts and classic commentaries and manuals of Islamic law, it becomes a bit like being told there very well could be a bright pink elephant out there, how would you know, you haven’t seen every elephant have you? And great value is not ‘often’ attached to emulating Mhd, from everything I’ve read, it is always attached. It would be the beginning of progress to decouple the practice of Islam from the imitation of Mhd.

I don’t see how being openly hostile to Islam means a website is not a respectable source. We have no problem trusting historians of WWII who are openly hostile to National Socialism.

He uses the unhelpful term ‘Islamism’ without defining it, which makes for strange sentences like the one that begins, ‘While the Muslim Brotherhood is one example of moderate Islamism…’ And while he is good on ‘Islamophobia,’ I would have liked to see him keep what he rightly calls this ‘odd term’ in quotes for each repetition, awkward though that is.

Everyone’s a critic, right? I thought it was an impressive article, he just takes a long way around to conclusions that are within arm’s reach.

      • “‘Muslim scripture is ambiguous. The Koran is not organized as a logical treatise any more than is the Bible.”

Yet, you can see before your very own eyes how logically the two books have been adapted to form a clear and distinct treatise. Abrogation or sublimation. One produces Muslims the other Christians to replace the authority of the Torah they each claim to perfect. It is dangerously blind or wilfully deceitful to inform the philistine citizenship otherwise.

For what is disparaged to be the bleatings of God-Botherers they will find rising up and killing them. The Muslim with the brick and the Christian does not mention the unlit gas is on. And the Socialists have been promised a kingdom of peace if every person does not speak over what the committee decided.

All will be well if you don’t look under the veil, they espouse.

    • DAILY MAIL – Shot in the head at point blank range: Latest sickening ISIS video shows masked gunmen executing ‘spy’

Shocking video understood to feature a victim named Ahmed Muhammad
He had been accused of working as an anti-ISIS spy in southern Turkey
Muhammad is seen being filmed in a dark room before his execution
He is then marched out in to a courtyard and shot and point-blank range

[…]As Muhammad is forced to his knees, the video’s slick production techniques kick-in, and the viewer can hear nothing but the sound of howling wind and an overdubbed heartbeat, adding tension.

The four masked militants are seen standing behind the victim and the footage slows to a dramatic slow-motion shot as one is seen preparing what appears to be a .45mm handgun.

Seconds later the video cuts back to show Muhammad face on, his eyes closed in fear.

The militant shoots the victim once in the back of the head, before standing over him and firing several more bullets into his neck once Muhammad lies prone on the floor of the courtyard.

      • Is it too much to expect that reporters use their brains? A .45mm projectile would be a little bigger then the sharp point on a needle, that is a .45 caliber weapon, it fires a projectile that is .452 inches in diameter.

  6. Afghanistan: Girl Steps Out Wearing Metal Outfit to Protest Against ‘Eve Teasing’, Pictures Go Viral

The images of a young girl, wearing a metal body armour to protest against eve teasing and street harassment in Afghanistan, has gone viral.

The photos of the Afghan girl hit the social media on Thursday. They show her walking through the crowded streets wearing the strange outfit.

The pictures of the unnamed girl are believed to have been taken in Kabul.

In the photos, dozens of men surround the girl as she walks down the streets of Kabul.

The young woman was reportedly spotted at Karte-3 area in the western part of Kabul city. However, the exact date and time of the incident has not been confirmed yet.

The images were widely shared on Facebook and Twitter, which are commonly used in Afghanistan.

The unique protest has garnered mixed reaction from the conservative Muslim society in Kabul. Reports claim that most social media users in Afghanistan severely criticised the actions of the girl as many saw it as an attempt to implement the western culture in the country.

Several internet users also praised the attempt by the girl. “Brave, brave woman. She reminds me of another brave girl Minnijean Brown-Trickey, who in the late 50’s was determined to go to a previously whites-only school. She faced verbal abuse and intense anger – but she succeeded,” Facebook user Catherine Robilliard said.

  7. Saudi Arabia awards preacher who says Muslims can have sex with slaves top prize and £130,000 for services to Islam

Dr Zakir Naik has also said George Bush was behind the 9/11 terror attacks
In 2010 he was banned from entering the UK for his inflammatory remarks
His edict on slaves echoes the doctrines of Iraq’s Islamic State insurgency

The king of Saudi Arabia has handed his country’s most-prestigious prize to a preacher who has previously said the Koran allows Muslims to have sex with female slaves.

Indian cleric Zakir Naik, who has also said 9/11 was an inside job, was handed the King Faisal International Prize for Services to Islam at a glittering ceremony in Riyadh.

A physician by training, the Mumbai-based 49-year-old has carved out a career as a charismatic television preacher, but his controversial views have led to him being banned from entering the UK.

Dr Naik was one of five winners presented a gold medal, a certificate hand written in Arabic calligraphy and an endowment of more than £130,000 by Saudi King Salman during a ceremony at a luxury hotel yesterday.

The president of the Islamic Research Foundation in India, Dr Naik was honoured for being one of the most renowned non-Arabic speaking promoters of Islam.

He founded the Peace TV channel, billed as the world’s only channel specialising in comparative religion, which now reaches an estimated English-language audience exceeding 100million, according to his award citation.

‘Islam is the only religion that can bring peace to the whole of humanity,’ he said in a video biography aired at the ceremony. It was on a broadcast on Peace TV that Dr Naik suggested that Muslims men may rape their slaves.

‘There are many verses in the Koran which say you can have sex with your wife and with whatever your right hand possesses,‘ he told a mass audience at one event.

‘Right hand possesses,’ he went on. ‘Which means your slaves.’

He goes on to qualify his statement by saying the world at the time of the Prophet Mohammed was beset by war, making slavery more common, and that a pious Muslim would marry the slave he wanted to have sex with first. But the remark seems to be a disturbing echo of the doctrines of the Middle East’s Islamic State insurgency.

Last October, the terror group published an article on its propaganda page stating that the sexual enslavement of captured Yazidis was justified because they are a ‘pagan minority’.

‘Enslaving the families of the kuffar (non-believers) and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Sharia,’ the article pronounced.

Dr Naik’s controversial comments have extended beyond sexual politics. In a July 2008 Peace TV broadcast he suggested that Al-Qaeda was not responsible for flying hijacked airliners into New York’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, killing almost 3,000 people.

‘Even a fool will know that this was an inside job,’ he said in the video, claiming then-President George W. Bush was behind the attacks.

In 2010 Dr Naik was barred from entering Britain after the Home Secretary cited ‘numerous comments’ which showed his ‘unacceptable behaviour’.

During his acceptance speech at Riyadh’s Al Faisaliah Hotel last night, Dr Naik told dignitaries he would be donating his prize money to Peace TV.

The annual prizes are a project of the King Faisal Foundation, established in 1976 by the children of King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz who died in 1975.

    The other prize winners were:

In Islamic studies, Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Kaki for his research on the cultural heritage of the Muslim holy city of Medina
In medicine, Jeffrey Ivan Gordon of the United States, whose research has enhanced understanding of diseases such as obesity, which is a growing problem in Saudi Arabia
In science, Michael Gratzel of Switzerland for his development of solar cells, and co-winner Omar Mwannes Yaghi of the United States for his work in the new field of metal organic frameworks.

Saudi Arabia is well known for using its vast oil wealth to promote extreme interpretations of Islam around the world.

  8. CANADA _ CBC – Timmins, Ont.-born jihadist recruited 5 others for ISIS

At least 4 of the 5 are currently in Syria or northern Iraq, CBC News has learned

Inspired by Andre Poulin’s apparent charisma 🙂 🙂 🙂 and his message, five Toronto men followed him to Syria and ultimately into the arms of ISIS, CBC News has learned.

Poulin, from Timmins, Ont., converted to Islam and went by the name Abu Muslim. He joined the jihadist fight in Syria in 2012, in the process creating an 11-minute propaganda video for ISIS aimed at Westerners.

He died while fighting in northern Syria in the summer of 2013 at the age of 24.

CBC News has learned that Poulin also had a direct role in recruiting at least five young Muslim men from the Toronto area to go to Syria.

Four were rescued by family members before they could cross over from neighbouring Lebanon, but at least three appear to have returned there to join ISIS.

The first was Abu Turaab. His real name is Mohammed Ali of Mississauga, Ont. He left Canada in April 2014, eight months after Poulin was killed.

His father enlisted an imam to talk sense into him, CBC News has learned. But the imam told CBC News that Abu Turaab was already determined to join ISIS.

[…]The four are in their early 20s and are from the same neighbourhood in Toronto’s east end. Born in Canada, their parents immigrated from Bangladesh to give their children a chance at a better life.

  9. SUSAN RICE : Congress should not “play spoiler” in Iran nuclear talks

WASHINGTON, March 2 (Reuters) – U.S. national security adviser Susan Rice warned U.S. lawmakers on Monday not to seek new sanctions against Iran while it is in talks with world powers on curbing its nuclear program, saying such intervention could ruin the diplomacy.

“Congress has played a hugely important role in helping to build our sanctions on Iran but they shouldn’t play the spoiler now,” she said in a speech to the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.

Her remarks came ahead of a speech to Congress on Tuesday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is expected to argue against U.S. President Barack Obama’s Iran strategy.
