2. Police Shoot, Kill Stabbing Suspect at Brooklyn Jewish Center: NYPD

Police shot and killed a man they say stabbed an Israeli student in the neck at a Jewish center in Brooklyn and then lunged at officers with a knife, according to the NYPD.

The man, 49, went into the Chabad-Lubavitch world headquarters in Crown Heights at about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, allegedly yelled that he would kill Jewish people and then attacked 22-year-old Levi Rosenblat, police and a spokesman for the center say.

Nigel Farage suggested Muslims were to blame for a disturbing increase in anti-Semitism in Britain.

Speaking on LBC radio, the Ukip leader condemned anti-Jewish attacks and claimed a sharp increase was down to Muslims that oppose Israel’s right to exist.

Figures from the Mayor of London’s office this week revealed hate crime against Jews have rocketed by almost 100% over the past year.

    • The perpetrator was neutralized with one shot, which is proper procedure. It only takes a second to fatally kill someone with a knife. Every year well over 100 law enforcement officers in the USA lose their life in the line of duty, It is easy to judge after the fact, but as the recording shows the decision to fire must be made in seconds. There is no ‘second take’ or rewinding of the tape.

      • Very true, in fact people usually have a better chance of survive a gun shot wound then they do after being attacked with a knife, the knife does more damage.

  3. How many degrees of separation? Do virtual degrees count? If so, this atrocity affects YOU, semi-directly.

    When I and other volunteers brought Israeli kids from the most affected regions near Gaza here to Boston over the summer, we had to find host families quickly. They didn’t have to be Jewish, though only practicing Christians responded generously in the end. Plus a couple Mormons, the most gentle of gentiles.

    These were secular Israeli children who spoke Hebrew and Russian at home, no English or Yiddish. We wanted to minimize culture shock. While some kids were easy to place, others were badly traumatized.

    Chabad was amazing. We were hesitant because they didn’t seem a cultural match, but they turned somersaults and did handsprings to embrace our little ones. Families with 13 kids had more than enough room for twin toddlers with florid PTSD.

    The side-locks and funny English no longer bother this most modern Modern Orthodox YankeeKafir. And Crown Heights Chabad in New York is about as exotic as it gets. But they’ve been an invaluable resource and a consistent personal source of strength in these trying times.

    They even tried to find a Ladino speaker to make me more comfortable with the Ashkenazi liturgy!

    A terrible thing happened today. An attack on a boy who’s already had more than his share of hardships.

    Here, in the USA!

    So get mad. This is an attack on you, too.

    Suggestion? Its fact. As usual the real racists and anti-semites are condemning Farage for the stating the obvious.
