  1. Arrest over threats to kill West Midlands police officer (BBC, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-30404147

“A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with threats to kidnap and kill a serving police officer.

West Midlands Police said officers from its counter-terrorism unit arrested the man on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrest was made at property in the West Midlands, the force said.

The force had issued an alert to officers and staff after receiving an “anonymous but credible” tip-off and said it was taking the threat “extremely seriously”…..”

  2. Explosions in Bahrain villages kill two (BBC, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-30390652

“A Bahraini citizen has been killed and an expatriate wounded by an explosion south-west of Manama, officials say, the second deadly blast in two days.

The interior ministry said the “terrorist” attack took place in the predominantly Shia village of Karzakan.

A Jordanian police officer was killed late on Monday in nearby Damistan.

Bahrain has been wracked by unrest since an uprising in 2011 in which the Shia majority demanded democratic reforms from the Sunni-led government.

Tensions have high since elections last month that were boycotted by the opposition, which said parliament lacked powers and accused the authorities of redrawing constituency boundaries to favour their supporters….”

  3. More radical leftist propaganda… At least they implicitly admit that Israel implemented procedures minimizing human casualties. But for these tools of ignorance it is apparently never enough…

Amnesty: Israeli strikes on Gaza buildings ‘war crimes’ (BBC, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-30393540

“Israeli air strikes on four high-rise buildings in the final days of this summer’s conflict in Gaza amounted to war crimes, Amnesty International says.

Evidence suggested the destruction was “carried out deliberately and with no military justification”, a new report by the human rights group found.

It called for an independent and impartial investigation to be opened.

Israel said the report made unfounded allegations and ignored Hamas’ use of the buildings for military purposes.

In a statement, the Israeli embassy in London said Amnesty should be investigating the Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians instead….

Amnesty acknowledged that in all four cases no-one was killed because the Israeli military took measures to ensure residents left the building before they were destroyed – by telling some in telephone calls to evacuate, and also firing “knock-on-the-roof” warning missiles.

But the group said scores of people from nearby buildings were injured and that hundreds were devastated to lose their homes, businesses and belongings….”

  4. Kenya to Probe Al-Jazeera on Death Squad Story (abcnews, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/kenya-probe-al-jazeera-death-squad-story-27477908

“The Kenyan government says it has ordered an investigation with a view to prosecuting the makers of an Al-Jazeera documentary which appeared to show Kenya officials admitting that police assassinate suspects in operations planned at the highest level of government.

The report, released on Monday, says the orders to carry out extrajudicial killings come from Kenya’s National Security Council, which includes the president, the chief of defense forces and the top police chief.

The most high-profile police killings are aimed at Muslim leaders believed to have links to Islamic extremists.

Al-Jazeera’s findings follow an Associated Press report on Friday which said that Kenyan officers are killing unarmed terror suspects, criminals, shakedown victims and even children, a tactic that is spreading fear, breeding corruption and complicating efforts to deal with terrorism.”

  5. Armenian Soldier Killed in Nagorno-Karabakh (abcnews, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/armenian-soldier-killed-nagorno-karabakh-27477599

“Nagorno-Karabakh says one of its soldiers has been killed in a clash with Azerbaijani forces.

The separatist region’s military said the soldier was shot and killed in fighting Monday. David Babaian, a spokesman for the Nagorno-Karabakh separatist government, said Tuesday that the clash occurred when Azerbaijani forces launched an attack on the Armenian positions.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said its forces rebuffed an Armenian attack Monday.

Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and some adjacent territory have been under the control of Armenian soldiers and local Armenian forces since a 1994-cease-fire that ended a six-year war.

Attempts to negotiate a peaceful settlement have stalled, and the sides engage in frequent shootings and attempted incursions along the cease-fire line. Tensions have soared since Azerbaijani forces downed an Armenian military helicopter last month.”

Israel: American arrested for allegedly plotting attacks on Muslim sites (CNN, Dec 9, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/12/09/world/meast/israel-american-arrested/index.html

“An American man has been arrested in Israel for allegedly acquiring explosives stolen from Israel’s military that he planned to use to attack Muslim holy sites, Israeli authorities said Tuesday.

According to Shin Beit, Israel’s internal security service, Adam Livix, 30, was arrested in November under suspicion of possessing explosives with the intent of using them in a terrorist attack.

He was arrested with “various types of ammunition and explosives stolen from the IDF” and admitted under interrogation that he had made preliminary surveys of potential targets, Shin Beit announced Tuesday.

Livix had come to the region in 2013 from his native United States, where he was been wanted for suspected drug felonies, the Israeli security service reports.

He lived in the Palestinian-controlled West Bank communities of Hebron and Bethlehem, before moving into Israel — spending 1½ years there illegally, according to Shin Beit.

In Israel, Livix “falsely presented himself as a Navy SEAL” — an elite U.S. military special operation unit — and “dealt with various criminal activities and came up with ideas for a variety of terrorist attacks,” Shin Beit said.

Livix also “expressed … his negative opinion of the Arab population of Israel and his wish to harm sites in Israel holy to Islam,” Israel’s Justice Ministry said….”
