1. ISIS ‘to set up Islamic Caliphate in Sinai’

(ANSAmed) – CAIRO, NOVEMBER 3 – The Islamic State (ISIS) has issued a statement saying that an Islamic Caliphate will be established in the Sinai, calling it the ”first step towards the invasion of Jerusalem”.

2. The “Explosive Growth” of Jihadism in the Netherlands

“The increasing momentum of Dutch jihadism poses an unprecedented threat to the democratic legal order of the Netherlands.” — Dutch intelligence service, AIVD.

“For adherents unable or unwilling to join the armed struggle in Syria or elsewhere, social media offers a form of involvement that allows them to identify themselves as jihadists… without actually having to fight. After all, the movement also considers ‘dawah’ — preaching the ‘call to Islam” — a form of jihad.” — Dutch intelligence service, AIVD.

3. Hezbollah chief in rare appearance ahead of Ashura

As he appeared on stage wearing a black robe and turban, the crowd seen in a live broadcast on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television began cheering wildly, as they apparently had not expected to see him.

4. ‘Boko Haram’ suicide bomber kills 20 in Nigeria

6. Canada still on alert

it might be tempting to think that the Oct. 22 terrorist attack on Parliament Hill was just a terrible nightmare, and that it’s all now in the rear-view mirror.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Canadians must remain vigilant, as we’re a country very much still on alert.

On Monday the RCMP sent out notice to the country’s police and military to stay on the lookout for potential terrorist attacks.

They specifically aimed their note to anyone out on solo patrol

(I have it on good authority that police have been paying visits to local mosques and that there has been an unusual amount of activity, a very high amount, at some area mosques in Ottawa)

Thank you GoV., M., Grace and many more. Its going to be a busy few weeks. Some interesting things to come.

  1. Those poor allahu-akbar-shouting, handpicked moderates…

Al-Nusra advances in Syria’s Idlib area, pushing back moderates, activists say (CNN, Nov 3, 2014)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2014/11/03/world/meast/syria-al-nusra-front/index.html

“Al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra has taken over key districts of Idlib suburbs in northwestern Syria, ousting U.S.-backed Syrian rebels from their strongholds and raising fears of their wider ascendance in northern Syria, monitors and activists say.

The Islamist militant group, also known as al-Nusra Front, pushed the Syrian Revolutionary Front and the Hazm Movement out of the Idlib suburbs of Jabal al-Zawia and Jisr Alshugur, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based monitoring group.

One observer suggested the al-Nusra moves had taken about 70% of the territory once held by moderates. But these moderates held little sway within military circles of the rebel movement, and they had influence mostly because of their links to the U.S.

Like ISIS, al-Nusra Front is trying to establish an Islamic state, though primarily in Syria. It has emerged as one of the most effective groups fighting the Syrian regime, drawing on foreign fighters with combat experience in Iraq and elsewhere. The group has claimed hundreds of attacks in several cities, including suicide bombings, and is responsible for the deaths of “numerous innocent Syrians,” the U.S. State Department said….”

  2. SYDNEY – AUSTRALIA -Shia Muslims chanting ‘down with Isis’ join Ashura procession in Sydney

March participants play down prospect of sectarian tensions a day after a Muslim leader was shot outside a Sydney Islamic centre

Thousands of Shia Muslims marched through the Sydney’s CBD on Tuesday to mark Ashura, the anniversary of the death of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson Husayn Ibn Ali.

The black-clad procession numbered more than 2,000 and stretched almost a kilometre, led by women in chadors and green headbands chanting, “down with Isis” and “Husayn is for peace”.

At the lead was a large sign linking Husayn’s death at the battle of Karbala in AD680 at the hands of the caliph Yazid to the death of Jesus and new threats from religious extremists in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Oppressors attacked Jesus Christ to crucify him, but he was victorious. After centuries, similar people attacked Imam Husayn to demolish truth and justice, but he was victorious,” the sign read. “Today, terrorists have risen again. Who will be victorious over them?”
