1. Walmart suspect gets nearly 98 years

(Turns out this was a jihadi attack after all)

The indictments said Faust shot the four men because of their “race, color, religion, nationality, or country of origin.”

Faust is black; the four victims are white. A search warrant shows police seized several books on the Muslim faith from Faust’s residence as evidence after the shootings.

2. This is how ISIS indoctrinates children

3. After Gaza war, Muslim-German students threaten to kill Jewish student spokesman

BERLIN – The student spokesman for the city of Offenbach’s school system, Max Moses Bonifer, resigned his post because German Arab and Turkish students attacked him and threatened to kill him.

The German daily FAZ reported on Wednesday that Bonifer said young Muslims have threatened him over the last few weeks because he wore a kippa with a Star of David and yelled at him: “We spit on your people. We’ll find you and kill you.”

4. Terror on the streets of Sydney: Shiite Muslim leader shot in the face by chanting ISIS supporters as he closed his prayer centre

A friend of Rasoul Al-Musawi, the man who was shot outside an Islamic prayer centre in Sydney’s south-west, said he was targeted by people claiming to be supporters of Islamic State.

Mr Al-Musawi’s friend – who did not wish to be named – is a Shiite Muslim and said the shooting in Greenacre was motivated by the sectarian struggle in the Middle East.

‘They called us “Shia dogs” and they threatened to come back down tonight and kill you, shoot you, whatever,’ he told ABC Radio on Monday.

The man said they had taken no notice of the threats – which also included ‘IS lives forever’ – but then he received a phone call saying his friend had been shot.

5. Syrian rebels armed and trained by US surrender to al-Qaeda

Two of the main rebel groups receiving weapons from the United States to fight both the regime and jihadist groups in Syria have surrendered to al-Qaeda.

The US and its allies were relying on Harakat Hazm and the Syrian Revolutionary Front to become part of a ground force that would attack the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

For the last six months the Hazm movement, and the SRF through them, had been receiving heavy weapons from the US-led coalition, including GRAD rockets and TOW anti-tank missiles.

6. Shiite militia, Iraqi security forces behind Sunni mosque massacre, report finds

(CNN) — The gunmen came in during noon prayers at the small Sunni mosque in the Diyala province, waving AK-47 machine guns.

Then they opened fire, the sound of the gunfire carried over the mosque’s loudspeakers that seconds earlier had been broadcasting prayers.

When the bullets stopped flying at the Musab bin Omar Mosque in the village of Bani Weis, about 75 kilometers (46 miles) northeast of Baquba, 34 people were dead and a more than a dozen were wounded.

7. IS beheads 8 Syria rebels who surrendered: Monitor

Islamic State group jihadists beheaded eight Syrian rebels who had surrendered in a town on the border with Iraq last week despite pledges of an amnesty, a monitor said Monday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the men were executed and their bodies hung on makeshift crucifixes in Albu Kamal in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

“The men surrendered in Albu Kamal because the Islamic State had offered amnesty to people who fought them if they turned themselves in,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Instead, he said, the eight opposition fighters were beheaded and then hung from crosses in a method often employed by the jihadist group.

  1. 1. If Mohammad can kill after hearing voices in his head, I see no difficultly with his disciples doing the same. That it is a doctrine that causes mental-illness in sympathy with the Founder, is a given.

    8. Following on with mental illness, a memorial to Steve Jobs and not the Apple Corporation and their color-coded phone and handbag should be the issue.

  2. LEBANON – Hezbollah chief makes rare public appearance

Beirut (AFP) – Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah made a rare public appearance on Monday in the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs, addressing thousands of his supporters ahead of the Shiite Ashura commemorations.

As he appeared on stage wearing a black robe and turban, the crowd seen in a live broadcast on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television began cheering wildly, as they apparently had not expected to see him.

The head of the Shiite militant group, whose forces are fighting in Syria alongside the troops of President Bashar al-Assad, usually addresses supporters via video link for fear of assassination by arch-foe Israel, and had not appeared in public since July.

  3. Japan’s RICH Muslim past and present

In 1970, only two mosques existed in the country, but now more than 200 offer sanctuary to Japan’s Muslims.

    […]Islam’s footprint

Omer says he prefers to look at the environment in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks as one that “opened doors to speak to people” in Japan about his faith with heightened “interest” in Islam.

While Islam may not have the same footprint in Japan as other religions such as Buddhism and Christianity, knowledge of it and the Prophet Muhammad here can be traced back to the 8th century.

Serious and sustained engagement with the Muslim world began for Japan as a part of its global outreach in the early Meiji period (1868-1890), with trade and information gathering missions sailing towards the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East.

Verifiable accounts of Muslims entering Japan can be placed in the same period with records of Indian merchants and Malay-Indian sailors working in ports in the Japanese cities of Yokohama and Kobe.

The Tokyo Mosque, Omer, the Islamic Centre of Japan, and the children of the Islamic school are the contemporary chapter of this old and under-researched history of Islam and Japan.
