CBC: Ottawa jihadi had religious motives by vlad43
A better and more detailed explanation can be found on CTV where they didn’t stop at ‘religious’ but actually said ‘allah’ and jihad’

Sisi gives Egypt military new powers after Sinai attack (BBC, Oct 27, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29791310
“Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has authorised the military to protect state facilities after jihadists killed more than 30 soldiers last week.
A spokesman said the new law gives the army the right to secure sites like power plants, main roads and bridges.
But critics say it allows the army to return to the streets and bring back military trials for civilians.
President Sisi declared a three-month state of emergency after the bomb attack in Sinai on Friday.
The new decree allows state infrastructure to be defined as “military facilities” for two years, permitting the army to work with police to secure such sites.
It also gives the military the right to try people it suspects of launching attacks on those sites.
Activists say the law is too broadly defined and could also cover universities, where police have been unable to stop student protests….”
Then it’s about time they got started.
That is usually where the political agitation starts.
Iraq bomb attacks leave at least 34 dead (BBC, Oct 27, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29790313
“At least 34 people have been killed and dozens injured following two bomb blasts in and around Iraq’s capital Baghdad.
The first attack came when a suicide bomber drove a Humvee at a checkpoint south of Baghdad killing at least 24, Iraqi officials said.
The second attack, a car bombing inside the capital, killed at least 10 people, officials say.
Hundreds have been killed in bomb attacks across Iraq in recent months.
The checkpoint where the first explosion occurred was near the town of Jurf al-Sakhar, around 50 km (30 miles) south of Baghdad.
The blast targeted Iraqi security forces and Shia militiamen who were manning the checkpoint. The Humvee used in the attack is likely to have been captured from government forces, reports say.
The attackers are believed to be militants from Islamic State (IS), who lost control of the town to government-led forces over the weekend.
It is not yet clear who is responsible for the second bombing, which took place near shops and restaurants in the Karrada district of downtown Baghdad. Dozens were also injured in the blast….”
Qatar officials dismiss IS funding claims (BBC, Oct 27, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29782291
“Senior officials from Qatar have strongly denied claims the country is supporting extremist groups in Syria such as Islamic State. They told the BBC Qatar had provided support to moderate groups only, in co-ordination with the CIA and other Western and Arab intelligence agencies. Strict financial controls had been put in place, they added.
In the past, Qatar and donors there are believed to have financed and armed hardline Islamist groups in Syria. Doha is also believed to have links to the al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda affiliate….”

US sceptical about Afghan war – poll (BBC, Oct 28, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29795747
“Americans are sharply divided as to the value of the nation’s intervention in Afghanistan, a new BBC poll suggests.
Fewer than half of respondents said the the conflict was worthwhile for the US.
Two-thirds of participants were sceptical that US involvement left the Afghan government able to defend its own people without assistance.
But Americans seem to be more optimistic than British people about the country’s prospects. The UK forces finally withdrew on Sunday.
In a similar poll conducted in the UK, only 24% said sending UK troops to Afghanistan has left that nation better off.
The US entered in its longest military conflict 13 years ago in Afghanistan, but today only 28% of respondents say America is safer as a result.
The BBC poll found Republicans were more likely than Democrats to consider US involvement in the Middle Eastern country worthwhile, at 54% to 43%….”
Considering the biased reporting and outright lies told by the LSM it is surprising we aren’t more divided.
And given the way they framed the questions-
How you frame the question allows you to slant the polls, back in the late 70s some gun control group reported that their new poll showed that 80% of the pubic supported gun control. The then head of the NRA got hold of a copy of the poll questions and published them saying that he would have a hard time answering them in a way that didn’t support gun control.

Saudi Arabia: Lawyers jailed for judiciary criticism (BBC, Oct 28, 2014)

“A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced three lawyers to between five and eight years in prison for criticising the justice system on Twitter. The Saudi Press Agency said the lawyers were convicted of disobeying the ruler and slandering the judicial system.
The lawyers reportedly accused courts of wrongfully convicting defendants and releasing corrupt people. Officials warned social media users that they are being monitored and could get similar punishments as the lawyers….”
Syria conflict: Nusra Front rebels attack Idlib (BBC, Oct 28, 2014)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29796134
“Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants and other Syrian rebel groups have attacked the government-held city of Idlib, briefly seizing several official buildings.
The Nusra Front said its fighters killed dozens of government soldiers before being pushed back.
The Syrian government has maintained control of Idlib city in the country’s north-west since it was briefly taken over by rebel groups in 2012.
Syria’s civil war, in its fourth year, has claimed more than 200,000 lives…..”
