A Trinity Western University graduate has filed a human rights complaint in British Columbia saying she was “attacked” because she’s Christian after she was rejected in a job application from a Norwegian outdoor tourism company.
Bethany Paquette says she was rejected to work as a guide for Amaruk Wilderness Corp. in Canada’s north because she went to Trinity Western University, a Christian university in B.C. that bans sex outside of heterosexual marriage.
“It did really hurt me and I did feel really attacked on the basis that I’m a Christian,” Paquette told the CBC.

“Mali has asked the UN to send a rapid intervention force to fight Islamist militants in the north of the country. Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop told the UN Security Council that urgent measures were needed following recent killings of UN peacekeepers.
A Senegalese soldier died on Tuesday, days after nine peacekeepers from Niger were killed by militants. The UN’s peacekeeping chief said Malian forces had been unable to fill the gap left by departing French troops.
French and African troops intervened in Mali in January 2013 to stop the southern advance of al-Qaeda-linked fighters on the capital, Bamako. The insurgents were expelled from the northern towns but have continued attacks against the UN force deployed to help bring stability. The 9,000-strong UN force, known as Minusma, took over peacekeeping operations in July 2013.
Speaking to the UN Security Council via a video link, Mr Diop warned that the region once again ran “the risk of becoming the destination of hordes of terrorists”.”

“The UN Security Council has been told that Syria has revealed for the first time the existence of four more chemical weapons facilities.
Three of the sites are for research and another is for production.
Correspondents say the announcement heightens concerns that the Syrian government has not been fully open about its chemical weapons programme.
A mission to eliminate Syria’s chemical arsenal was set up after a deadly attack outside Damascus in August 2013.
The joint operation by the UN and Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) declared last week that it had completed its mandate, after removing or destroying all 1,180 tonnes of declared toxic agents and precursor chemicals.
However, it said it would continue to deal with the destruction of chemical weapon production facilities inside Syria and “the clarification of certain aspects of the Syrian initial declaration” made when it signed the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) last October….”

“The head of Canada’s national police force says there are about 63 active security investigations on 90 suspected extremists who intend to join fights abroad or who have returned to Canada.
Bob Paulson, commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told a Parliament public safety committee on Wednesday the pace and tempo of police operations is brisk but says it’s nothing that “Canadians need to be alarmed about.”
Michel Coulombe, the director of Canada’s intelligence agency, says they know of about 80 people who have returned to Canada who are suspected of supporting terror-related activities in countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Lebanon and regions such as North Africa.
Coulombe says they know where they are and while “all of them potentially could be a threat,” some were involved in non-combat-related activities such as fundraising and propaganda.”

The exact age of the victim is not known, but Minshull Street Crown Court heard how she was sexually abused by Ilyas Ashar from pre-puberty.
He would routinely rape the girl in the cellar and other houses the family owned – though she would try to fight him off.
When police and local trading standards raided the Ashar family home on the morning of June 8, 2009 on a separate matter, officers were ‘shocked’ to discover the girl asleep in the cold and dark cellar. They noted something was ‘amiss’ when she got up, went upstairs and, instead of sitting on a chair in the kitchen, sat on a plastic stool. One officer likened her behaviour to that of an ‘animal’ – not allowed to sit on the furniture – and an indication of her status in the house.

TURKEY – Deadly clashes as Turkey’s Kurds protest Kobane ‘inaction’
Kurdish protesters clashed with police in several Turkish towns and cities late Tuesday, leaving at least a dozen dead as anger over Ankara’s perceived inaction in the fight against jihadists at the Syrian border mounted.
Some of the deadliest demonstrations erupted in Diyarbakir, the largest town in Turkey’s majority-Kurdish southeast region, with Turkey’s private Dogan news agency reporting eight killed and many wounded as police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse protesters who burned cars and damaged businesses.
At least 14 people were killed in violent demonstrations in several Turkish towns and cities, primarily in the southeastern region, including three killed in Mardin, two in Siirt, one in Batman and another in Mus. Violent demonstrations also broke out in Istanbul, the country’s commercial hub, where one protester was hospitalised after being hit in the head by a gas canister, Dogan reported.
Thousands of people had joined the demonstrations called by the main pro-Kurdish party, the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), against Ankara’s failure so far to intervene militarily against Islamic State group jihadists fighting for the Syrian border town of Kobane.
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has vowed that Turkey will do whatever is necessary to prevent the fall of Kobane, also known as Ain al-Arab.
But Kurds furiously accuse Ankara of merely looking on as the town faces being overrun by jihadists despite dozens of Turkish tanks being deployed on the border.
Curfew imposed in several Kurdish-majority provinces
Turkish Interior Minister Efkan Ala hit back at pro-Kurdish protesters, accusing them of “betraying their own country” and warning of “unpredictable” consequences if they continue.
