1. Nigeria: Boko Haram Torch 185 Churches in Captured Towns of Borno and Adamawa

A prominent Nigerian reverend has revealed Islamist terror group Boko Haram destroyed over 180 churches in the West African country following its capture of towns and villages in the north-eastern states of Borno and Adamawa.

Reverend Gideon Obasogie, the director of Catholic Social Communication of Maiduguri Diocese in Borno State, said the group’s seizure of territory in both states has seen 185 churches torched and over 190,000 people displaced by their insurgency.

In his statement, Obasogie said Boko Haram’s “ransacking and torching” of churches had forced priests to leave their homes for two months while displaced civilians were still unable to return to their towns and villages.

3. Report: Two dead after explosion in Iranian nuclear facility

(I still think its as likely that it was an error as it was an attack by a foreign entity. It is an explosives plant for high explosives that have to be carved by a sharp knife into intricate shaped charges if its for a plutonium device)

Two workers were killed in an explosion that took place at a military explosives factory southeast of Tehran, near the suspected nuclear reactor in Parchin, IRNA, the official Iranian news agency, reported Monday.

The agency quoted Iran’s Defense Industries Organization, which said a fire occurred Sunday night, killing two people. The agency did not provide additional information.

4. FBI arrests suburban Chicago man accused of trying to go overseas to join Islamic State group

CHICAGO – A 19-year-old American left a letter expressing disgust with Western society before trying to board an international flight in Chicago, the first step in his plan to sneak into Syria to join the Islamic State group, according to a federal criminal complaint released Monday.

Mohammed Hamzah Khan, who lived with his parents in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, was arrested Saturday at O’Hare International Airport trying to board a plane on the first leg of connecting flights to Turkey, which borders Syria. He is charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group, which carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence.

6. It is amazing how often the anti-Israel establishment types actually turn out to be hard core antisemites even shilling for people like David Duke of the KKK. This might be why people say, “Oh if you criticize Israel then they call you an antisemite!” Its usually cause they are.

 

Thank you  Richard, Bear, M., and all who sent in material. No one commented on the air force commercial I posted yesterday. I thought it was interesting that it featured audio clips of several presidents but not the sitting CIC, President Obama. Very interesting indeed.

  1. #3 You are probably right but I want to engage in a fantasy where someone is actually doing something to stop Iran from getting nukes.

    #2 They are probably coming to all Western nations, I know there are very believable reports from reliable sources saying there is a large ISIS presence just across the border from Texas.

    • Way too many people do need to be told when a danger is near, and then they tend to disbelieve the reports.

      • There could be a 15-foot polar bear standing behind you and Barack Obama wouldn’t bother mentioning it to you unless it helped advance his cause in some way. The guy is not the leader of all Americans, he is the leader of all Democrat Americans. As far as he’s concerned, the non-Democrats can go f&ck themselves…

    With Vlad’s indulgence, here is some digging around in another of the foundational texts of the Frankfurt School, with a view to unearthing the roots of the progressive ideas that are choking the spirit out of the West and making it vulnerable to Islam.

    Theodor Adorno was responsible for the F-Scale, the Fascist-Scale in ‘The Authoritarian Personality,’ which was designed to detect opposition to communist revolution and then convince the academy to label it incipient fascism, under cover of defending democracy.

    With Max Horkheimer, Adorno also co-authored ‘Dialect of Enlightenment’ (1944; rev. ed. 1947).

    ‘One of the core texts of Critical Theory, Dialectic of Enlightenment explores the socio-psychological status quo that had been responsible for what the Frankfurt School considered the failure of the Age of Enlightenment.’ (Wikipedia)

    There is an impenetrability in the presentation of ideas in this book familiar to anyone who has tried to read subsequent works of Critical Theory. Horkheimer and Adorno manage this without writing overly complex sentences. The paragraphs are long but the sentences are not. They simply resist comprehension for long stretches. Of course, if the argument cannot be readily understood, it cannot be easily answered.

    The prevailing political order might seem good to people enjoying it, but that conceals its true nature. Aspects of the West the authors don’t like include the material success that followed on the Enlightenment, with the consequent well-being of the masses, making them slow to rebel; consumerism; the ‘culture industry,’ or ‘mass culture;’ ‘totalitarian advertising bosses;’ even, apparently, personal hygiene and good dental care, which they associate with a loss of individuality to the point that ‘personality means hardly more than dazzling white teeth and freedom from body odor and emotions.’

    They don’t like much about the West at all, America included (both men were living in L.A. at the time of their collaboration) – not even songs on the radio, which are especially devious if people enjoy them free of charge:

    ‘The Toscanini performance on the radio is, in a sense, unsaleable. One listens to it for nothing, and each note of the symphony is accompanied, as it were, by the sublime advertisement that the symphony is not being interrupted by advertisements – “This concert is brought to you as a public service.” The deception takes place indirectly via the profit of all the united automobile and soap manufacturers, on whose payments the stations survive, and, of course, via the increased sales of the electrical industry as the producer of the receiver sets…. Chesterfield is merely the nation’s cigarette, but the radio is its mouthpiece. In the total assimilation of culture products into the commodity sphere radio makes no attempt to purvey its products as commodities. In America it levies no duty from the public. It thereby takes on the deceptive form of a disinterested, impartial authority, which fits fascism like a glove.’

    There are some favourite Critical Theory words in use here already – reify, praxis, sublimate, mimesis.

    Perhaps it’s easier to read in the original German.

    • Don, this is exactly the kind of “digging” – the thumbnails – I find useful. I’m beginning to “know it when I see it,” but it’s useful to have conceptual pegs for hanging the examples.

        • These guys make their writing unintelligible to fool the starry-eyed pseudo-intellectual sophomores into thinking that they’re reading something of great intelligence that only extremely intelligent people can understand. Same with Karl Marx and Herbert Marcuse and all the rest. For some reason, the stark fact that they are wrong about everything does nothing to tarnish their, “genius” labels as far as the left is concerned. Post more just like it… 🙂

      • The LSM is still working hard to make us think Russia and China aren’t a threat to freedom, while the number of people who get their news from the LSM is dropping there are still too many people doing so.

        • We haven’t heard anything about evacuations from parts of Ukraine, or how bad things are getting in the Baltics.

With regards to the Obamaless air force ad, I would be very interested to see an accurate poll of what the American military actually thinks of their commander-in-chief, considering how little he obviously thinks of them. For instance, is every black soldier other than Allen West a locked-down unflinching supporter of Obama, simply on the basis of shared skin color, or do some black soldiers actually think outside of tribal lines? Do Hispanics support him because he’s left wing and not white? I’d like to know.

    Obama will move heaven and earth to rescue an Islamic convert traitor who put his own guys’ lives at risk by defecting, but he won’t even pick up the phone to get a regular marine out of a Mexican prison. I know if I were a US soldier I would hate Barack Hussein Obama with every ounce of my being…

    • All I can tell you is that most of the blacks at the VA don’t like him or his policies, and most of the Hispanics (non vets) that I know hate his guts.

  6. More cases of Ebola in Europe “unavoidable”, WHO says

    Speaking to Reuters just hours after Europe’s first local case of Ebola infection was confirmed in a nurse in Spain, the WHO’s European director, Zsuzsanna Jakab, said further such events were “unavoidable”.

    “It is quite unavoidable … that such incidents will happen in the future because of the extensive travel both from Europe to the affected countries and the other way around.”

  8. 6/ Another article written in my head, except for the timely bits.
    Facing this situation, Israel must be guided by two goals as it confronts Europe. It needs to stop caring about what Europeans think of it, and it needs to reduce as much as possible its exposure to the European market.

    The latter is already being implemented in Israel. The economy has become more sophisticated. The dollar value of high tech is higher than export income from agricultural products. Intellectual property can’t be labelled “made in Israel” like an orange in the supermarket.

    And the “pivot” (I’m hating that word) to Asia is well underway. Israel would still take a hit in the event of a boycott, but exposure is gradually declining.

    Israelis and Jews still care very much about European opinion. That’s for damn sure. The displays of Jew-hate over the summer were deeply hurtful.

    Cities you know better than your own are so changed you can never return. A lifetime spent learning languages, history, and culture. All for naught.

    Friends, even best friends? They’ve bought into the prevalent opinion. One can never be candid or comfortable with them again.

    I feel the pain of an exile. Can you imagine how bad it is for Jews living there?

    Yes, it’s painful to acknowledge the depth and pervasiveness of Jew-hate. How could I have been so wrong?
