The Public Prosecutor (OM) is investigating fraud and corruption in at least five major anti-radicalization projects. This has been revealed by investigations by the Dutch Volkskrant newspaper into the  misuse of subsidies to combat jihadism in the Netherlands.

According to a spokesperson for the OM there are two suspects in a criminal investigation into fraud involving subsidies provided by the Institute for Multicultural Affairs (FORUM). Those involved say that it concerns two anti-radicalization experts who were arrested on July 31 in The Hague

One is FORUM program manager and Labour politician Halim el Madkouri, the other the Hague Berber activist, Farid L. Shortly before his arrest, the latter had been seen by a number of undercover agents giving an envelope containing four thousand euros in cash to El Madkouri  in a coffee bar.

El Madkouri and L. were both involved in the organization of five ‘resilience’ meetings for parents of prospective Syria fighters in The Hague, Delft and Gouda. In addition to these projects, the OM is now investigating similar initiatives in Rotterdam and Amsterdam.

For politicians in The Hague, the revelations come at an inopportune moment. The government has included a comprehensive package of measures to counter radicalization in the Netherlands, which it presented in the Budget speech last Tuesday.

Farid L. stated that the cash was from a deposit of 40 thousand euros that he received this spring from FORUM for organizing anti-radicalization meetings. According to L. he was allowed to organise the meetings on the condition that he gave part of the grant in cash to El Madkouri. He denies that he himself benefited from the subsidy, even though he is accused of this by a former colleague.

El Madkouri has a completely different interpretation. He feels that he was set up by F. The envelope with money was, he says, “a private matter” that was related to a loan that he had given to the Berber activist during the summer of 2013. This would have been ??a deposit for an apartment in Morocco, near the summer home of El Madkouri.

The El Madkouri’s lawyer has called L. ‘an unemployed crook’. “What he states is totally unfounded. There is no shred of evidence that El Madkouri has ever asked for or received money for himself. We have conclusive proof of that.”

No statement’

The Inspectorate of Social Affairs is not the only one investigating the cash flows at FORUM. The Dutch Investigative Committee of Public Integrity (Onderzoeksraad Integriteit Overheid ), which investigates whistleblower reports, has in recent weeks taken statements at FORUM concerning the transfer of 150,000 euros to two other thinktanks intended to prevent Muslims developing radical ideas.

The director of FORUM, Rob Dortland, said in a reaction that he will not make any statement about the El Madkouri case and that he looks forward with confidence to the results of the investigation by the Investigative Committee.

On Tuesday it will becomes clear what the position is regarding the dispute between Halim el Madkouri and FORUM. El Madkouri is demanding a summary judgment that his resignation be undone, but FORUM will be in the courtroom dismissal ‘defend and explain, “says Dort Land.

The chairman of the supervisory board of FORUM, Tjibbe Joustra, has attracted the blame early September. “We are already four years get into administrative troubles. I’ve never experienced this. It is a defeat, “said Joustra in a confidential report.

  1. Another way Marxism and Islam are alike, where you find one or the other you find massive corruption.

    • Communist bureaucracies are huge, as are those of the Socialists. Think of India, for one. Only way to cut through is knowing the right people, knowing who and how much to pay. Egypt, another.

Probably true of most wretched 3rd-world hell-holes.
