THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — A toxic chemical, almost certainly chlorine, was used “systematically and repeatedly” as a weapon in attacks on villages in northern Syria earlier this year, the global chemical weapons watchdog said Wednesday.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said that a report by a fact-finding mission it sent to Syria based its conclusion on dozens of interviews with victims, physicians, eye-witnesses and others.

4. Caroline Glick: President Sisi’s Gift*

Sisi

Something extraordinary has happened.

On August 31, PLO chief and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told an audience of Fatah members that Egypt had offered to give the PA some 1,600 kilometers of land in Sinai adjacent to Gaza, thus quintupling the size of the Gaza Strip. Egypt even offered to allow all the so-called “Palestinian refugees” to settle in the expanded Gaza Strip.

Then Abbas told his Fatah followers that he rejected the Egyptian offer.

On Monday Army Radio substantiated Abbas’s claim.

According to Army Radio, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi proposed that the Palestinians establish their state in the expanded Gaza Strip and accept limited autonomy over parts of Judea and Samaria.

In exchange for this state, the Palestinians would give up their demand that Israel shrink into the indefensible 1949 armistice lines, surrendering Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. Sisi argued that the land Egypt is offering in Sinai would more than compensate for the territory that Abbas would concede.

  1. DAILY MAIL – Muslim students will be offered Sharia law-friendly student loans by government in bid to get more Islamic pupils to go to university

Muslim students are to be offered Sharia law-compliant interest free loans by the government in an attempt to get more Islamic pupils to go to university.

Since tuition fees were increased in September 2012, many Muslim students have been put off continuing their education as it was expected the loans, which are paid back above the rate of inflation, would be used to cover the rising costs – contrary to their beliefs.

Following a four-month consultation, a new Sharia-friendly model which involves Muslim students paying a donation into a pool system instead of paying interest has been produced by the Department for Business Innovation & Skills (BIS).

I’ve always thought that the solution to the Palestinian situation lay in the Sinai. It’s so obvious that no one even mentions it. If you look down on the area next to Gaza you will see that there is a wrecked Israeli settlement, a Bedouin camp, and a few goats…oh, and a stretch of Mediterranean beach to make a poor Canadian die with envy. The new “Palestine” will be much nicer than Israel.

The “Palestinian problem” is and always has been 100% the fault of the surrounding Arab nations. No number of Jimmy Carters of John Kerrys or Bill Clintons have ever had any hope of achieving anything there. Thank you Mr. Sisi for being the first Arab leader to start acting like a human being…

    • The Arab/Islamist leaders will never accept any Palestine that is next to Israel, it has to include all of Israel.

  3. Elliott Abrams:
    Palestine in Sinai?

Several days ago news reports “revealed” a proposal by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to extend the territory of Gaza south into Sinai. According to the story, as Israel Army Radio carried it, the area to be added to Gaza is five times the size of the current Gaza. The idea is that this area would accommodate all the Palestinian “refugees,” thus satisfying the demand for a “right of return.” Palestine would consist of this new area and the current Gaza Strip, giving the Palestinians more territory than if the 1967 “borders” were restored.

Oh, and if the current Palestinian leaderships want to turn down the Egyptians’ offer and continue in their abject misery, perhaps the good people of so-called, “Palestine” could “vote in” someone who isn’t completely crazy… Come on, guys, you can do it…

    • I really believe they could, Chris. The bigotry of low expectations is all over the map. That goes for Muslims living in the west, too.

Remember Christy, the pretty Christian girl forced out because she told the truth? And the young man who demanded the return of the 3 teenagers [may their souls rest in peace]?

      • Imagine how good it would feel to be a Gazan and see the border come down and suddenly be a citizen of this beautiful hundred-mile beach with a bunch of land behind it, and all kinds of new construction-related jobs? It must really feel like a prison there and the Egyptians are offering them a very real solution. That could really be an interesting little country… I can’t see them just letting all that sit on the table and just going back to firing rockets and being mad all the time because Hamas wants them to. Hamas are toast!

  5. 14 Million Refugees Make the Levant Unmanageable

There are always lunatics lurking in the crevices of Muslim politics prepared to proclaim a new caliphate; there isn’t always a recruiting pool in the form of nearly 14 million displaced people (11 million Syrians, or half the country’s population, and 2.8 million Iraqis, or a tenth of the country’s population).… A new UN study, though, claims that half of Syrians are displaced. Many of them will have nothing to go back to. When people have nothing to lose, they fight to the death and inflict horrors on others.

    http://www.meforum.org/4800/14-million-refugees-make-the-levant-unmanageable

    • I wonder how many people would be displaced in the Levant if the United States hadn’t done so many things to strengthen the bad guys? Gaddafi was an ally who kept a lid on the Jihadists and kept the gears turning in Libya. Now his country is in flames and his gigantic weapons supplies are in the hands of the Jihadists. And how much effect has American aid to the rebels had on the war in Syria, and who gave these rebels the God-given right to be the new bosses, considering their first act would probably be to behead every Alawite in the country? Would the war be over and the whole region in peace if Mr. B. hadn’t done so much “stupid stuff”?

      • I came across this analysis & thought it fit your comment – one fragment, anyway:

“[T]he country that generated the problem, will make an effort towards the solution, and will do so with air strikes, intelligence, the provision of military equipment and training, and working towards economically isolating the threatening terrorist entity.”
~~ but we know Islam generates all the problems ~~

        • He is being forced to go back into Iraq, but he will do his best to insure that he does no lasting damage to ISIS or the Iranian backed groups. We are fighting a war with the Commander in Chief working to ensure our defeat.

      • You are right in saying things wouldn’t be as bad if Obama(not the US but Obama) hadn’t given so much help to the bad guys of the Middle East, and he is continuing to do this.

This man is an ally of ISIS but Obama (not the US but Obama) is going to arm him. We all know that a large number of these weapons are going to end up with ISIS.

        • Now he’s doing more! Congress or no Congress!

9/11 celebrates with Mohammdans – can’t he just wait? With the MB – represented by Elibiary – throwing its weight behind a RINO candidate?!

          Whatever shall we do?

Written in the style of the heroine of a spaghetti western.

        • We prepare for things to reach a breaking point, we aren’t the only ones who see what is happening and while all are praying for a peaceful, legal solution many are preparing for a major disaster and a break down of law and order. The latter may be what Obama wants since it would allow him to declare Marital Law, it would be illegal if the Governor of the state/states haven’t declared an emergency but Obama doesn’t care about the law and has purged many of the officers who would oppose his illegal actions.

        • Thanks for the horror!
I don’t know – the only horror movies I’ve seen are Alfred Hitchcock & those I’ve watched again & again.

        • The mini series is based on a very famous book from back in the 50s and when it is in print it is usually found in the SF sections, it was made into a very good movie in the 50s.

        • I’ll enjoy good movie horror. For late lunch.

Acting and scripts top genre. Though I am partial to the cowboy elements: good guys fighting for something important, they’re tough when necessary though not hardened, they win and get the pretty girls. Walking into the sunset.

  6. White House push to train Syrian rebels ties up funding fight

The White House is pushing Congress for authority to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels as part of a stopgap spending bill lawmakers hope to pass this week.

President Obama and Vice President Biden are calling members of Congress Wednesday to push them to include the Title 10 authority as part of the continuing resolution, and counterterrorism czar Lisa Monaco is meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Title 10 authority is the part of the U.S. code that governs military powers.

The White House says the additional authorization could allow the U.S. to ramp up assistance to the Syrian opposition, which is battling both Islamic State terrorists and the Assad regime.

The push for the authority comes as President Obama readies to speak to the public on Wednesday night about the threat from ISIS.

[…]The president originally asked for the ramped up authority during his national security speech at West Point in May, but recent pressure to confront ISIS following the beheading of two U.S. journalists has given the issue new urgency.

“I will work with Congress to ramp up support for those in the Syrian opposition who offer the best alternative to terrorists and brutal dictators,” Obama said at the time.

A Republican leadership aide noted that since the president’s original request, the White House has not submitted an operational plan detailing how the aid would be provided to rebel fighters. The official also noted that three bipartisan bills that include programs to train and equip elements of the Syrian opposition have cleared committee and were awaiting Senate action.

The White House and Democratic leadership have so far declined to say if they support the CR unveiled by Republicans on Tuesday, although the GOP will likely need Democratic votes for it to pass.

Asked about the measure Wednesday, Pelosi said it was unclear what the final package will look like. But she made a point to condemn the Republicans’ short-term extension of the Export-Import Bank, arguing that the Democrats’ favored five-year approach would better help the limping economy.

  7. CHINA COUNTERTERRORISM 101: Why China has less trouble from Muslim terrorists than most of the world

There are more than 15 million Uighur Muslims in China, the majority residing in the province of Xinjiang. Uighurs have been unsuccessful in their attempts to carve out a separate Islamic state for themselves in Xiinjiang, causing them to step up their terrorist attacks against civilians. But unlike the West, China doesn’t treat Islamic terrorism with kid gloves.

    http://www.jewsnews.co.il/2014/09/10/china-counterterrorism-101-why-china-has-less-trouble-from-muslim-terrorists-than-most-of-the-world/

    • It may be viable, but only if some predictions are true and Obama does do Jimmy Carter damage to the Democrats, if this happens the next President can help get a Kurdish state established. The more divisions in Islam into individual nations the better for the west it creates a better chance that Islam will lose influence and power, slowly but hopefully it will occur.

      • And – incidentally – it’s probably better for tribal cultures to stay small. They’ve done tribes forever, keeps the chief closer to the indian and the indian’s daddy. It’s easier to go over someone’s head, talk to the boss, and perhaps get problems resolved.

Kurds are all about tribes. They’ll always be fighting, but that’s entirely their own affair. Overly friendly with Iran, but that makes for a better vantage points for Mossad.

  8. Off topic, but I am convinced the UK’s Scottish Independence is a psyop.

The vote for independence from Europe has been festering for decades after being tricked to join by Ted Heath’s Conservatives. To lance this, the riddiculous vote for The Scottish was given. Unlike a better life outside Europe, a worse life outside the UK was offered. The overwhelming relief of having dodged a bullet by staying in the union would then wash over the people to remain in Europe and negate the resistance to totalitarian diktats. The methods used for propping up dictatorships with such crowd-manipulation stunts that I suspect Tony Blair’s Agency sells.

Should it go wrong… But the data controllers seldom are… The socialists will have poisoned the well yet again in striving to their collectivist utopia, leaving a new leader to fix what they will spend and bust again – a one wheelled wagon can only scribe a circle.

    • The various independence groups seeking to split up Western nations were started by the KGB as a way to weaken the west, I don’t think the KGB really expected to cause any nation to breakup but they knew the groups would generate turmoil and weaken their nations. Now the left in the West are using them to help create the turmoil that the left hopes will allow them to create a one socialist government world.

How to Hurt Iran, Even Without Airstrikes

Iran is Israel’s main adversary in the Middle East – supporting Hamas and Islamic Jihad, backing Hizballah and trying to build nuclear weapons • But Iran is not as strong as it seems, and it has problems with many disaffected and large minorities • Iran has been meddling in our backyard for long enough, it’s time to hit back

  10. At least 11 Afghan civilians ‘killed by Nato airstrike’ (BBC, Sept 10, 2014)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-29145750

“At least 11 Afghan civilians including women and children have been killed and 16 injured in a Nato airstrike in the eastern province of Kunar, local security officials have told the BBC. The airstrike took place in Narang district after local police and soldiers came under attack, they said. Nato is investigating the air strike, which President Hamid Karzai condemned. Civilians deaths have caused tension between him and Nato.

The deaths come as his successor is being decided. Both candidates, Abdullah Abdullah and his rival Ashraf Ghani, believe they won June’s poll and both alleged widespread fraud. An audit of votes from the disputed presidential election has been completed, officials say, but results will not be made public for days.

Civilian casualties caused by Nato aircraft are highly sensitive in Afghanistan and have long been a source of tension between President Karzai’s government and Nato. Last year the president banned foreign airstrikes in residential areas after civilians were mistakenly killed in a night raid. A statement from his office on Wednesday said that US aircraft were responsible for Tuesday’s strike.

Kunar provincial governor Shuja ul-Mulk Jalala told the Reuters news agency that at least two airstrikes took place after a group of Afghan police and US forces were attacked in a remote, mountainous area. Because the area is barely under the government’s control, the governor said, it was difficult to ascertain the exact details….”

    • Left in the Dark, Failures of accountability for civilian casualties caused by international military operations in Afghanistan, p.8 (Amnesty International, Aug 2014):
      http://www.amnesty.org/sites/impact.amnesty.org/files/LeftInTheDarkAfghanistan.pdf

“… Amnesty International notes that, especially in recent years, the vast majority of civilian deaths in Afghanistan have been the result of attacks by the Taliban and other parties in conflict. Such groups have failed to take basic precautions to avoid harming civilians, have employed civilians as human shields, and in some instances have directly targeted civilians in violation of the laws of war. In 2013, according to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), insurgents were responsible for more than three quarters of civilian deaths, while international forces were respo nsible for just 5 percent of them. While this is not the focus of the current report, Amnesty International continues to condemn all attacks on civilians and deplores the increase by Taliban and other armed opposition groups…”?

    • Lastly, the name of Kunar reminds me strongly of this story from three years ago or so. Not a peaceful place back then… Doubt strongly it is a peaceful place in the present.

  11. Libya’s Embattled Premier Seeks Support From UAE (abcnews, Sept 10, 2014)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/libyas-embattled-premier-seeks-support-uae-25416026

“The Libyan prime minister was in the United Arab Emirates Wednesday meeting with its rulers to shore up critical support against Islamist-allied militias that forced him and his allies out of the capital over the summer.

Abdullah Al-Thinni and the embattled parliament that appointed him need the financial and political backing of wealthy Gulf Arab allies like the UAE if they hope to grab back their seat of power from rivals working to set up their own government.

The parliament that backs al-Thinni is virtually powerless and has no control over Libya’s three largest cities. Its lawmakers along with al-Thinni were forced to relocate to the remote eastern city of Tobruk far from the capital…”
