7. Boko Haram declares caliphate in Nigerian town under rebel control
Boko Haram has announced that an Islamic caliphate has been established in a Nigerian town seized by the militant group earlier this month. It follows an attack on a police academy outside the town of Gwoza.
“Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brothers in Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate,” Abubakar Shekau, the group’s head, said in the 52-minute video, obtained by the news agency AFP.
He declared that Gwoza, a town in Borno state, now has “nothing to do with Nigeria.”
“By the grace of Allah, we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,” said Shekau, who has been condemned a terrorist by the US and sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council.
The Need4Khilafah group, which was first exposed by Breitbart London last month, consists of activists who had previously belonged to banned groups such as Al-Muhajiroun and Islam4UK. The group appears to be led by preacher Anjem Choudary, and terror-convict Abu Izzadeen.
“We are here to oppose the British government and the war against Islam and Muslims,” claimed Choudary, while another speaker shouted into a PA system, “Call me a terrorist, call me an extremist”.

UK – Medway towns “Day of Action” against mega mosque plans
The Britain First South East brigade carried out a “day of action” in the Medway towns of Gillingham, Rochester and Chatham against mega mosque plans for the area. Our activists visited all three towns giving out thousands of Britain First leaflets and carried a banner stating “No more mosques!”

ISIS fighters have besieged the ethnic Turkmen Shiite town of Amerli in the north for two months, and its fewer than 20,000 residents are without power and running out of food, water and medical supplies.
“The situation of the people in Amerli is desperate and demands immediate action to prevent the possible massacre of its citizens,” said Nickolay Mladenov, the U.N. secretary-general’s special representative for Iraq.
He said the suffering was “unspeakable” and demanded that the Shiite majority Iraqi government “relieve the siege” on Amerli.
About 5,000 families live in Amerli, which has been under siege for 70 days, according to Dr. Ali Albayati, head of the Turkmen Saving Foundation. He told CNN the town is running without electricity, is out of medicine and can only turn to wells for water.
Nearly three dozen villages surrounding Amerli are already under ISIS control, Albayati said. The people of Amerli are relying on the Iraqi government to take them out by helicopter or support them with food drops, Albayati said. In the past 10 days, he added, only one flight has delivered food.
Surrounded on four sides, the 17,400 residents have had to defend themselves with only the help of local police, said Masrwr Aswad of Iraq’s Human Rights Commission….”
35 Nigerian police officers missing after insurgent attack (CNN, Aug 24, 2014)

“Thirty-five Nigerian policemen are missing following an insurgent attack Saturday on a police training school in one of the most volatile parts of the African nation, police said.
A search-and-rescue effort has been launched after the third attack this month the Gwoza Training camp in Borno State, according to a statement posted online by the Nigeria Police Force.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone had claimed responsibility.
Afterward, the force’s Inspector-General Suleiman Abba ordered that security be tightened around all police facilities in the country.
It’s not known what happened to the missing officers, though the police force statement did say there is a “very promising prospect of locating them.”….”

“For the first time, a worker with the World Health Organization has fallen ill from Ebola, the WHO told CNN on Sunday.
The health worker, a man from Senegal, is in Sierra Leone and receiving care, the WHO said. No further details were given immediately.
When asked how the worker contracted the virus, a WHO spokesperson said officials don’t yet know all the details.
Separately, a British citizen infected with the virus in Sierra Leone is being flown home, the British Department of Health announced Sunday.
The man, simply identified as William, lives in the West African nation in a home established by an American university for researchers.
He is a volunteer nurse in Kenema Government Hospital, where he was working with Ebola patients, according to Dr. Robert Garry of Tulane University….”

“It was a foiled prison break from the Taliban side. They were trying to get hold of prisoners from inside,” he said.
The militants have staged some elaborate prison breaks to free their comrades, including a 2011 incident in Kandahar that freed more than 400 inmates. During that incident militants dug a 1,050-foot tunnel from a nearby house to the prison.”

Boko Haram Leader Claims Gwoza
Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has announced that he has created an Islamic caliphate in a city seized by the insurgents earlier this month in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.
According to a 52-minute video AFP obtained on Sunday, 24 August, 2014, the Islamist group leader said: “Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in (the town of) Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate.”
After Shekau’s 25-minute speech, the video shows militant fighters on pick-up trucks firing rocket-propelled grenades and other heavily armed insurgents firing weapons as they walk calmly along the road.
The footage appears to show them taking over a military base, stealing weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition as well as fuel cans.
In one frame, a fighter stands on top of a tank, waving the Islamists’ black flag.
<b<The end of the video apparently depicts scenes of grisly executions, similar to those released by Islamic State (IS) in Iraq in recent weeks. Boko Haram have used similar tactics before, however.
In one scene, about 20 men in civilian clothing are shown with their hands tied behind their backs and lying by the roadside before they are shot at close range.
A second shows two men, whom Shekau said disguised themselves as women to escape the town, beaten to death with shovels. Two others similarly dressed are shot beside what appears to be a trench full of bodies.
Shekau is pictured standing in front of three SUVs and flanked by four fighters, who are masked and armed. It is not clear when or where the video was filmed.
There was no indication that Shekau was actually in Gwoza for the filming and his whereabouts remain unknown but another unidentified fighter who speaks later in the video vowed that Boko Haram would keep control of the area.
Shekau, who was blacklisted by the the United Nations in July, declared that Gwoza, in Borno state, now has “nothing to do with Nigeria”.

The United Nations humanitarian office confirmed in a report some weeks ago that Gwoza was under rebel control.

You should care because the answer is probably they want to spent the money on nuclear weapons development rather then bombing their enemies with conventional weapons. Most people ignore the economics of war but the classic example is does a nation buy guns or butter, although in Iran’s case it is do you buy conventional weapons or more machines to make nuclear weapons. All nations no matter how rich have to decide who to spend what always turns out to be limited resources. How they spend tells us what their priorities are and what their goals are.
Then that’s something we should keep an eye on. See if they’re kinda chintzy pitching in, giving their all for their fellow Shittes.
