Geopolitics of Islam. A sectarian war is a civil war, and some Christian push-back Links # 3 for June 20 2014

1. BBC interviews Iraqi leader. Notice his library.

2. Wooden cross hung at mosque in Bulgaria

(I hope the Czech republic and Bulgaria have lots of room. It looks like the last place where freedom minded people can live)

The incident took place at Karaca Pasha mosque in the southern town of Gotze Delchev, 200km from Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.

In a statement strongly condemning the attack, the Regional Office of Mufti in Blagoevgrad said: “The incidents which trigger dispute among religions and directly threaten national security should be investigated and offenders should be brought to justice.”

3. Radical Sunni Islamists face jail for attack on group of Shi’ites ‘in first case of Muslim sectarian violence in Britain’

Violence broke out on London’s Edgware Road, a well-known Shia area, on May 10 last year during a protest organised by radical preacher Anjem Choudary calling for jihad in Syria.

Two men were beaten to the ground with placards and wooden sticks. One was so badly injured he had blood streaming down his face after being kicked in the head as he lay helpless on the floor.

Ginger-haired Jordan Horner, 20, part of the Sunni sect, attacked a man after calling him a ‘kaffir’, or non-believer.

(Funny that they don’t give his pirate name, just his English one. That has to be policy. But if he was a Neo Nazi and had changed his name to Wolfgang Von Himler… Video of conflict here)

4. 30 Shia militiamen killed in Iraq clashes: police

WARNING: Execution video of Shiia prisoners by Sunni muslims.

(Related, US to send a few hundred advisors in, top Shiia cleric upset about it and wants to form new government)

5. More on the Texas man who was allegedly told that he had to remove his US flag from his balcony because he was told, it was threatening to Muslim tenants

Thank you M, Buck,

Richard and all. There is more. It shall be posted.

  1. IRAQ – Maliki Frees Shi’ite Prisoners to Fight ISIS

Underscoring his growing desperation, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has ordered the release of 2,000 Shi’ite prisoners held in a maximum security prison in the north, many of them sentenced to death or life imprisonment.

The plan is to have the Shi’ites go off and fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which has taken over large portions of the nation’s north and west.

The move is likely to increase tensions with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), where many of the prisoners were being held, as well as Iraq’s Sunni Arab minority, since the prisoners are being unleashed on their towns

Large numbers of Iraqi Shi’ites are already been organized into volunteer militias to fight against ISIS, and it remains unclear if the prisoners will be a separate faction or will just be folded into these militias.

  2. U.S and Iraq talking over legal immunity for troops [on the ground ]

[…]As the Pentagon prepares to send up to 575 new troops into Iraq, officials say, talks are underway with the Iraqis to clarify the legal protections for service members working outside the U.S embassy.

The deal would not be an official status of forces agreement, but would ensure that troops deploying there now will be able to use lethal force in self-defense and not risk ending up in an Iraqi courtroom or jailhouse. The Defense Department wants written assurance that “if an incident happens, that that individual has due process through the military justice system,” Kirby said.

  3. 1. This video states factually incorrect information. Neither the Sunni’s nor the Shia believe either are Heretics.
This was brought up hundreds of years ago which apologies have been made at that time.

    The only heretics are Ahmadi.

Why is the media giving miss information on this??

I can’t believe Obama is twiddling his thumbs like this while the worst caliphate-dreaming Jihadis we’ve seen to date are right there murdering people while they make themselves such a tempting target for American air power. What bullshit to say that they wouldn’t be able to fight without killing too many civilians. Get them all in their Toyota pickups as they go from place to place. Get them as they cross over into Syria with stolen weapons. Here’s your big chance!

Obama is evil. It just could not be clearer what side he’s on…

  5. OX AO

Are you sure about that? They sure do hate each other, and it would definitely not be permitted to treat Muslims the way ISIS is treating their Shia captives. You can’t just kill a Muslim without declaring him a non-Muslim first…

  6. OX AO: In many clips I see sunni referring to Shiia as Kafir and vice versa.

They most certainly do see each other as non-Muslims right up to and after the point where they blow up each others mosques and behead each other.

Which is why I think what the Americans should do, is send a crack team of sword sharpeners and a few hundred tons of C4

    • I think the Berets being sent may be able to do something if they are allowed to take advantage of the disagreements.

      • Iraq: Shia Cleric Issues Threat To US Forces

A Shia cleric loyal to anti-US cleric Moqtada al Sadr has warned that the 300 US military advisers en route to Iraq will be attacked.

In a sermon from Baghdad’s Sadr City district, Nassir al Saedi threatened what he called “the occupier”, saying: “We will be ready for you if you are back.”

The warning comes after President Barack Obama announced the deployment of US military advisers, made up mostly of special forces.

      • I don’t want marines as cannon-fodder either.
And didn’t we get into Viet Nam as “advisors”?
Helicopters evacuating the embassy personnel, ditching the place. Hostages taken in Iran. An act of war never acknowledged as such.

Too may scenes that seem awfully familiar to historians and movie-goers.

  7. yeah I’m having a hard time finding it again but it is based on this:

The concept is that they are rebels against Allah. But they are all people of the faith.
    They’re NOT heretics

  8. The Vocabulary of Sectarianism

Sunni Islamists, particularly Salafis, have used six main terms to describe those that support, are on the side of, or are fighting with the Assad regime: Nusayri, rafidha, majus, Safawi, Hizb al-Lat, and Hizb al-Shaytan. Their Shiite Islamist foes have also adopted their own titles for their Sunni opponents, some of the main terms include: Nasabi, Takfiri, Ummayad, and Wahhabi. For both sides, these terms serve to paint their enemies as nothing more than infidels bent on destroying Islam. Consequently, there can only be one punishment: Death.

Another term becoming more popularized in the regional lexicon is “rafidha” (pl. rawafidh) in reference to Twelver Shiites, the largest of the Shiite sects.

If rafidha is a go-to term for Sunni Salafi Islamists, then “Nasabi” (pl. Nawasib) is the favored term in the Shiite political lexicon to describe Sunni foes. The word itself is a descriptor for those who hate the family of Mohammad.

[…]Charging their enemies with being takfiris has also allowed for Iranian-backed Shiite Islamist organizations to further their own conspiratorial narrative. The most commonly repeated claim states that Israel, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the takfiris are in league to destroy Hezbollah, Syria, and Islam.

  9. IRAQ June 21 2014 – Sunni militant infighting kills 17 in Iraq’s Kirkuk

Sunni militants who fought together to capture swathes of Iraqi territory have turned their weapons on each other during clashes in Kirkuk province that cost 17 lives, sources said Saturday.

The fighting erupted on Friday evening between the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Army of the Men of the Naqshbandiyah Order (JRTN) in Hawija, in Kirkuk province, said the sources.

There were differing accounts as to what sparked the firefight, which is a potential sign of the fraying of the Sunni insurgent alliance that has overrun vast stretches of territory north of Baghdad in less than two weeks.

One security official said JRTN fighters had refused an ISIL demand to give up their weapons and pledge allegiance to the jihadist force.

Witnesses, however, told AFP the two sides clashed over who would take over multiple fuel tankers in the area.

  10. #5 Note how Tron (a Viet name) wants to be a good patriotic American and is resisting the idea that he has to remove the flag because some other immigrant may be afraid of it, also if the other immigrant is afraid of the US flag why are they here?
