As France continues to grapple with growing violent anti-Semitism alarming reports suggest a potentially deadly terrorist attack on a Paris synagogue in broad daylight was thwarted at the very last minute on Saturday.

According to French-language JSS News, a pair of unidentified attackers approached the synagogue, located in the French capital’s 20th District, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and a handgun. According to reports they began aiming their guns at bystanders and the building itself and pretended to open fire, but fled the scene when they saw armed French police officers guarding the synagogue.

Reports say they escaped on a scooter.

  1. Senior DHS Adviser: ‘Inevitable that ‘Caliphate’ Returns’
Only choice is ‘whether we support’

A controversial senior adviser to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is receiving criticism for tweeting that the recent takeover of Iraqi cities by a violent terror group is proof that a Muslim “caliphate” is making an “inevitable” return.

Mohamed Elibiary, a controversial figure and member of DHS’s Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), discussed what he described as the “inevitable” return of a Muslim caliphate Friday on Twitter.

“As I’ve said b4 inevitable that ‘Caliphate’ returns,” Elibiary tweeted in response to a question about the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (also known as ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham), which is currently seeking to overthrow the Iraqi government and instate strict Sharia law in the country.

“Choice only whether we support [European Union] like Muslim Union vision or not,” wrote Elibiary, who has “advised numerous federal, state and local law enforcement organizations on homeland security-related matter,” according to his biography on DHS’s website.

The first possible signs of sectarian killings of Sunnis appeared in Iraq on Tuesday, as 44 Sunni prisoners were killed in a government-controlled police station in Baquba, north of Baghdad, and the bodies of four young men were found shot to death and dumped on a street in a Baghdad neighborhood controlled by Shiite militiamen.

  5. There’s a fine point I like a lot in your link, John:

“[The] seemingly arbitrary choice of spellings is a sensitive subject for many followers of Islam. Whereas for most English speakers, the two words are synonymous in meaning, the Arabic roots of the two words are very different. A Muslim in Arabic means “one who gives himself to God,” and is by definition, someone who adheres to Islam. By contrast, a Moslem in Arabic means “one who is evil and unjust” when the word is pronounced, as it is in English, Mozlem with a z.”

Learn something new everyday. It’s “Moslem” for me now.

  6. I’m going anti-PC here. So far:

-“Moslem”. Mohammedanism takes too long to type.
-“Militant”. It’s just a loathsome euphemism for terrorist.
“Youth”. Some thug from an ethnic minority, mostly savages.
“Alleged”. For lawfare-fearing professionals. So it’s fine for me to use. Scummy-vibes make him guilty until he convinces me he’s innocent.

Ok Richard, now what’s on your list?
