Russian forces conducted military exercises in the south-western Rostov region near the border with Ukraine on Wednesday.

    The Russians have been sending over planes for a decade, nothing to do with the Ukraine, in the same way, that NATO spy planes overfly the east too.

  9. If the Russian government had more sense they would not need to be seen to get involved in the new world order Kiev authorities since they are bumbling their way through, creating more pockets of discontent, as seen in this example:

    According to local media reports miners have seen around a 10 percent cut in their paychecks to restore the Ukrainian capital.

    “I don’t understand why are we involved!” one of the protesting miners, Stanislav Denisenko told ITAR-TASS. “It was not us who dismantled the stones and burned the houses down. I get about 3,000 hryvnas a month. I don’t understand why they are taking away my salary.”

    It is a matter of time before the Ukrainians will repeat another version of maidan.

  12. Regardless of the outcome or how one fells as to the situation in Ukraine, the fact remains that they owe the Russians approx. 2 billion dollars for natural gas and the bill is overdue. How will they survive next winter ( which comes early and is long)? If the Russians cut off the gas. There is no other practical supply of energy to heat homes cook our fuel industry. Add to that most of Europe’s gas is routed through pipelines in Ukraine, possibly softening their feelings toward Russia.

In the future this temporary government could provide work on a new constitution and then, according to this new constitution, the parliamentary and presidential elections could happen.”

    DONETSK, Ukraine — Ukrainian security forces killed “up to five” pro-Russian activists Thursday in the restive eastern part of the country, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said, as Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned any use of the Ukrainian military against its own citizens.

    The pro-Russian activists were killed in clashes at three checkpoints in the city of Slovyansk, and one Ukrainian soldier was wounded, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. The violence broke out as clashes involving Ukrainian security forces, local protesters and pro-Russian militants spread across eastern Ukraine, with other fighting reported at an arms depot and a city hall.

    At least 1m firearms ranging from first world war machine guns to Soviet-era Kalashnikovs stored at Volodarsky salt mine

    When pro-Russia protesters stormed a police station in Slavyansk, in eastern Ukraine, they seized several hundred firearms. They also took control of the biggest weapons cache in eastern Europe, which lies beneath their feet.

    Since March a group of protesters have been guarding the entrance to the Volodarsky salt mine, which holds an underground collection of at least a million firearms ranging from first world war heavy machine guns to Soviet-era Kalashnikovs.

    The protesters say they are there to prevent the new government from using the weapons against them, but officials and analysts worry that pro-Russia militias could seize the guns.

    “If such a large amount of weapons fell into hands of separatists, it would be a catastrophe,” said Alexei Melnik, a defence analyst at the Razumkov centre in Kiev. When Melnik visited the cache in 2002 it held about 3.5m firearms, he said.

    The mine is near the village of Paraskoviyevka, 25 miles from Slavyansk, the centre of the uprising by armed pro-Russia militias demanding regional referendums on greater independence from Kiev.

  20. Big Frank that is a very good analysis, Putin is going to play that card when he needs to, and a lot of the European crude oil comes from Russia that gives them a real big say in what Europe does.

    Britain and the were the boogy man for the Soviet Union and it looks like Putin wants to continue that as he rebuilds the Russian Empire/Soviet Union.

    I still think that Ivan the Terrible or Peter the Great are closer to what Putin is, but Newt is the history professor.

    Radio-Canada journalist says Vice reporter is in CBC car on his way to Donetsk

    Simon Ostrovsky, the U.S. journalist who was being held by pro-Russian gunmen in eastern Ukraine, is free and safe, a Radio-Canada journalist says.

    Ostrovsky, a journalist for Vice News, had been covering the crisis in Ukraine for weeks and was reporting about groups of masked gunmen seizing government buildings when he was detained by pro-Russian gunmen for what they called “bad activities.”

    Vice News tweeted that it was “delighted to confirm that our colleague and friend @SimonOstrovsky has been released and is in good health.”

    After his release, Ostrovsky tweeted that he had been “beaten, blindfolded and hands tied at first, then treated well.”

    The U.S. journalist had been covering the crisis in Ukraine for weeks and was reporting about groups of masked gunmen seizing government buildings in one eastern Ukrainian city after another, The Associated Press reported.

    Stella Khorosheva, a spokeswoman for the pro-Russian insurgents in the eastern city of Sloviansk, confirmed Wednesday that Ostrovsky was being held at the local branch of the Ukrainian security service that they seized more than a week ago.

    “He’s with us. He’s fine,” Khorosheva told The Associated Press. When asked why Ostrovsky was held captive, Khorosheva said he is “suspected of bad activities.” She says the insurgents are holding Ostrovsky pending their own investigation.

    A pleasure watching faces without masks. These soldiers are people, as opposed to jihadis, who are just filthy, cowardly rag-bags screaming “allah, etc.” And all women are beautiful when their smile is genuine. So, I’m a kuffar, who cares?

    Am I also a racist for worrying about the future of eye-color diversity for humanity? Soon we won’t be able to find all those shades of blue, gray, green, amber.
