(CNN) — The Pentagon’s intelligence arm has assessed with “moderate confidence” that North Korea has the ability to deliver a nuclear weapon with a ballistic missile, though the reliability is believed to be “low.”
Disclosed first by a congressman at a hearing on Thursday and then confirmed to CNN by the Defense Department, the assessment by the Defense Intelligence Agency is the clearest acknowledgment yet by the United States about potential advances in North Korea’s nuclear program.
The surprise development comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Do we dare take the chance the intel is wrong?
I would normally trust the ‘intelligence arm’ of the Pentagon but with Obama pulling the reins I fear that I have become a bit skeptical.
If we were talking about an Islamic threat I wouldn’t trust them because too many Muslims have infiltrated U.S. intelligence, but in the case of North Korea I don’;t trust them because Obama has damaged their competence.
Call me an old cynic if you like, but I think the U.S. armed forces and their associated intelligence capabilities have seen better years, not through lack of enthusiasm and not through lack of resources but through sheer demoralization and the lack of a honest and reliable pair of hands at the helm.
You got that right, in a different article the Chief of Staff refused to talk about much on this subject because most of the info is still classified. However I still ask, do we dare not believe the report.
