A great move indeed, now just stop paying all the other chaplins and there will be more money for education of the prisons children.
I see no reason why any government, anywhere, should pay for propagander – let the churches/mosques/synagoges pay for it.
While we are at it – imams should not be paid the dole either – any more than priests or vicars.
They are criminals & prisoners, they should no rights except the very basic ones. They gave up their rights when they chose to commit a crime.
If prisoners want to reform they will but it must come from within. How they do that is essentially a matter for themselves, for no one can give them the strength except themselves. Alone they will have to find their own way and at times of change or reform- it is the Self who is often the most difficult of all to deal with. They only help prisoners need is not religious but professional to open their minds -or the windows to their souls. No more or no less! Religion of any stripe, particularly Islam cannot give them on the inside what it failed to give them on the outside.
I doubt it will last. The ‘Yuman Rites’ shysters will be all over this.
It would be better to deport criminal Mustards & Sikhs altogether.
I like the decision. In fact, I would have got rid of all the chaplains in one fell swoop. If inmates have suddenly found the need for God, give them access to a library room and let them get at the Bible and other books.
Oft times, the silly do-gooder chaplains stand as character witnesses for the criminals at their parole hearings never realizing that the inmates have pulled wool over their eyes.
