STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • An appeals court previously said it would not rule until after the order was given
  • Hasan had said, “I believe that my religion requires me to wear a beard”

(CNN) — A judge has ordered that the beard of Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of fatally shooting 13 people at Fort Hood, be forcibly shaved ahead of his upcoming military trial, base spokesman Tyler Broadway said Thursday.

Col. Gregory Gross issued the order, which will likely trigger an appeal that would further delay a case that has dragged on since the 2009 mass shooting.

Hasan’s attorney had filed an appeal when Gross threatened to order the shaving, but the appeals court said it wouldn’t issue a decision until the shaving was actually ordered. Thursday’s order by Gross opens the door for that appeal.

The last time he was in court, Hasan told the judge, “Your honor, in the name of almighty Allah, I am a Muslim. I believe that my religion requires me to wear a beard.”

His defense team argued Hasan should be able to keep his beard under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, contending that shaving it would leave him in a “perilous religious state,” according to a news release from Fort Hood.

  1. i’d say let him keep his mangy beard, it’s just wasting time and milking his “muslim victim” status. charge him with contempt of court and stick an extra year on the sentence.

  2. As the Leftists continue to make their excuses, reason starts to close in on them.

Firstly, this guy did not kill because of Islam. He was a loner / depressed or whatever.
Secondly, he now claims to be a devout Muslim, that’s why he grew his beard. But he always was a Muslim. He has not converted to Islam since the shootings.
Thirdly, he never had a beard when he was a dutiful serving officer before he committed his murders, so his religion did not conflict with his choice to serve in the army. So why was he clean shaven as an officer but chooses to grow a beard now?
Whichever way you look at this, the whole scenario is full of contradictions.
Leftist lies are beginning to fall apart. There is no logical way out. Islam contradicts itself and Leftist reasoning contradicts itself!

Major Hasan is a jihadist and he murdered innocent people because he is a Muslim!

  3. It will be overturned at one of the appeals levels, hopefully the Supreme Court will order it shaved.

  4. I imagine they have been ordered to spin this until after the election. America will need a quieter time to tip toe around Islam and not be seen putting it on trial. Hasan will make it just that, Americas war on Islam. Americans don’t have the courage to face that.

  5. Considering how fast this murderer’s mangey whiskers re-emerge, best to shave/humiliate him while he’s on the stand, repeatedly – as necessary to maintain proper American courtroom decorum.

  6. Shaving a terrorist can be a tricky business.

I recommend they start at the neck.

    And move inwards.

  7. I’d LOVE to be the barber! Once in the chair and a straight razor in my hand, the thought of all those young solders killed by a murderous traitor would compell me to do a shockingly acurate impersonation of Sweeney Todd. My only regret would be the unfortunately swift and unduly merciful result.
