A BRITISH photographer shot and wounded in Syria while held hostage by Islamic fanatics was astonished to find his captors were led by an NHS doctor.

The AK47-armed, heavily-bearded extremist told John Cantlie he had taken two years’ leave from a major London hospital to wage holy war.

And the medic, who described in detail his hospital experience and carried NHS medical kit, said he plans to return to the UK to become a trauma consultant in A&E.

John, 41, and Dutch colleague Jeroen Oerlemans were snatched while reporting Syria’s civil war between tyrant President Assad and rebels.

But they were horrified to find a British doctor among the leaders of a group that was threatening to behead its captives.

John said: “It was a bit of a surprise to find an NHS doctor as one of our captors — with an AK-47 and preaching Sharia law.

  1. Read the whole article linked to. It wasn’t just this one doctor. There was a large group of British muslim terrorists there.

    And it is NOT a rebel group. It’s seperate religous fundamentalist group who wants to take over the revolution. They had in fact attacked and taken over the real rebel camp. That’s how these journalists were caught.

    These british jihadis are NOT rebels. They are just as much enemies of the rebels as they are enemies of the government.

  3. The path to terrorism is paved with deprivation, unemployment, racial inequality and a sense of exclusion. Isn’t this what we are constantly told by politicians and the mainstream media?

    But this man is a doctor who can afford to take two years away from his profession! The two who attempted to explode in the Glasgow Airport were also doctors. One of the underground bombers left a total of £120.000 and was a teaching assistant.

    Am I wrong when I think there is something else that drives these people to terrorism?

  6. The Australian immigration dept wont let a proud British EX soldier in this country cause he served (Shame on the department) but whats the bet the British immigration dept will let this asshole back in so he can continue to ply his evil wares from behind closed doors

  7. Update to this story. I’ve recently read somewhere (maybe on this site) that MI-6 started tracking down this scumbag as soon as they found out.

  8. An NHS doctor with a wife and children who’s taken a leave of absence in the last few months and flew out of the country without yet returning? They probably already know exactly who he is.
