Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

“Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

  1. Like way too many people they ignore the facts, kids have been helping on farms for all of recorded history and very few of them get hurt. This is because their parents and grandparents watch out for them, teach them the safe ways of doing things. Once again the left thinks they know what is best for other peoples kids.

  2. Working in a vegetable garden as a youngster, helped me grow character and the ethos of hard working.
Not giving up and continue working when the sun burns down at you. When your thirsty and hungry, and pant for a break, but you didn’t dare, because your where worried that granddad would look down at you, for being weak, and not a man.

Of course the Obama administration looks at that with disgust.

  3. * My granddad was more kind for me, then I was for myself. lol

Well, you have to do something to help the generation of entitlement growing, and going strong.
