Conservative MP: EU is an “occupying force”

Mark Pritchard, the secretary of the 1922 Committee has demanded a vote on Britain’s membership of the EU. The committee is composed of Eurosceptic and traditionalist Conservative MPs, and had an early run in with Prime Minister David Cameron, just after the election of 2010, when he insisted that Ministers be allowed to help choose its chairman — almost needless to say, to ensure that it would be in lockstep with Government decisions. Cameron backed down after the row went public, and threatened to cause serious revolt within Conservative Party ranks less than a few weeks after becoming PM.

Yesterday, Liberal Democrat Treasury Minister Danny Alexander described Eurosceptics as “enemies of growth” — a phrase reminiscent of the “enemies of the people” and “enemies of the party” accusations routinely employed by communist regimes. But… continue reading!
