FIVE Muslim men planned an armed terrorist attack on a Sydney army base to further the cause of Islam by killing as many people as possible, a Supreme Court jury heard today.
Prosecutor Nick Robinson SC said the men took a number of steps in preparation for the attack, including sending one of their number to Somalia to obtain a fatwa or religious decree to permit the plan to go ahead.
Mr Robinson said members of the group used the code “the man who has gone to Perth” when talking about Yacqub Khayre’s trip in search of a fatwa.
The plan was that five or six men armed with high powered weapons would enter the Holsworthy Army Base and fire at and kill as many people as possible before they were either killed or overwhelmed.
They planned to use weapons that could fire at least 60 bullets.
On trial are Saney Edow Aweys, 26, Mr Khayre, 22, Abdirahman Mohamud Ahmed, 25, and Wissam Mahmoud Fattal, 33,and Nayef El Sayed, 25.
They have all pleaded not guilty to conspiring with each other and persons unknown between February 1 and August 4 last year to do acts in preparation for, or planning a terrorist act or acts.
Mr Robinson said the men believed Islam was under attack from the West and that Australians and the Australian Government were oppressing innocent Muslims in Afghanistan.
They were also upset that another man had been convicted of terrorist acts in this country.
“The Crown case was that this was to advance the cause of Islam,” he said.
Opening the Crown case, Mr Robinson said Mr Fattal left his home in Lakemba in NSW and visited the Holsworthy base to assess its suitability for carrying out the terrorist shootings.
Mr Khayre texted him the address of the base from a public phone in High St , Preston in Victoria.
Mr Robinson said the men needed to obtain the fatwa from Somalia because they could not find an Australian-based sheik to issue one.
As they were planning the attack members of the group exchanged texts and messages and had conversations, some of which were secretly recorded and would be played in court.
Before the trial commenced, Justice Betty King warned the jury that the trial was about the alleged commission of a criminal offence, not about Islam.
“The Islamic faith is not on trial,” Justice King said. “It isn’t about being a Muslim.”
The trial is continuing.
Look people these scum are what we have to get used to. This is it. They are here and they are going to stay doing this kind of thing forever. It is a new reality. At least three good things are on the horizon though. The rise of Geert Wilders and the collapse of Saudi Arabia. The latter will take a while. They have reached the peak of their oil production and are now going down. Russia is currently number one in Oil. The last thing is the rise of China and India and Brazil to the top ten of the worlds biggest economies. That is a massive counterweight to the rise of Islam. All in all we are in for more of the same but the larger pictures changes before our eyes and will manifest results. Can anyone answer this question: how long does it take once oil production has peaked for it to decimate a country like Saudi with debt?
In the past, Islam took large parts of Europe and the non-Muslim world with mere barbarity, terror and cruelty. Saudi money is indeed an accelerant to the spread of Islam, but I think it has enough inertia now that it may not need it anymore.
Not long ago, the government of Saudi Arabia actually had the temerity to demand at the UN that when the oil ran out, the rest of the world should continue to give them the same amount of money anyway. Just because they should have it. It was a stunning request but no less stunning than current requests by the Islamic world which are routinely accepted by bodies such as the UN and EU anyway.
I would not bet against them getting it.
What I really don’t get is that the west still thinks that these sorts of people are the “radical” elements of Islam.
They are not.
Islam is the world’s number one threat to human life, liberty and democracy wherever Muslims settle.
And it must be stopped.
Had these men been Nazis during WWII, they would have been treated as enemy agents and traitors. Had they been Communists during the Cold War they would have been treated as enemy agents.
Because of the need for OPEC oil, they are considered “rogue elements” within Islam.
The non-Muslim world has to treat Muslims as potential enemy agents and either de-program them, deport them or whatever else is necessary to keep them from planning jihad attacks.
They do it to all others within the boundaries of their countries.
I feel it is time that the west returns the favour in kind.
