Reader’s Links for January 20th, 2026

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

For those interested, please check out https://vladtepesblog.substack.com/ as an another avenue of expression. The Substack is a different project in a sense. It is older videos that in the light of subsequent events, look different or of increased importance, Check it out now and again if you like.

  1. Holy Crow!

The Japanese bond market is a white swan (the black swan we saw coming?) Metals march on. I think they a smell sovereign debt crisis in the air. The world is turning its back on sovereign bonds as it seeks alternatives to counter-party risks. Luckily, the Europeans have put another dog sled team into Greenland, with Canada’s nod to help, in the form of troops meant to deter American takeover. Luckily, too, Mark Carney is executing the New World Order so long in the making, which is another stepping stone towards owning nothing and being very happy, and we all like happy.

As opposed to a black swan event, which is an expression describing an unforeseen catalyst to a systemic crisis, how about a black crow event? I imagine crows are smarter than swans, but I’m not sure about this. Crows use tools while swans use good looks and hissy fits. Clearly, there is a sexist remark buried in this observation that I shall allow to just walk on by. Anyhoo, I would bet on the crows if I were a betting man.

  2. What’s really beneath PT’s Greenland offensive?

The Lomonosov Ridge is an 1,800 km underwater mountain range in the Arctic Ocean that has become the centerpiece of a modern “gold rush” for natural resources. While gold itself is among the potential mineral riches, the term “gold rush” often refers broadly to the race for vast oil, gas, and mineral deposits located in the seabed.

    Resource Potential
The ridge is highly sought after because its relatively shallow depth makes future mining and drilling more technically feasible compared to the surrounding deep ocean basins. Potential resources include:
Hydrocarbons: Estimates suggest the Arctic could hold 15% of the world’s undiscovered oil and 30% of its natural gas.
Minerals: Substantial deposits of gold, tin, diamonds, platinum, manganese, and nickel are believed to exist in the region.
Recent Discoveries: In early 2026, surveys in related Arctic geological sites continue to identify rare earth elements and trace amounts of precious metals.
    Territorial Disputes
Control of the Lomonosov Ridge is contested by three primary nations, each claiming the ridge is a natural extension of their own continental shelf:
Russia: Claims the ridge is a continuation of the Siberian continental shelf. In 2007, Russia symbolically planted a titanium flag on the ridge beneath the North Pole.
Canada: Asserts the ridge is attached to the North American and Greenland tectonic plates.
Denmark (via Greenland): Argues the ridge is an extension of Greenland’s landmass.
    Legal and Practical Status
UNCLOS: Claims are governed by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which allows countries to claim resources beyond the standard 200-nautical-mile limit if they can prove the seabed is a natural extension of their territory.
Extraction Difficulty: Despite the high value of resources, extraction remains extremely difficult due to thick sea ice, sub-zero temperatures, and the extreme depths (averaging 1,700–3,700 meters).

Gaza’s “Phase Two” Peace Trusts Hamas

“We’ve talked to a number of Hamas people, and we’re hearing throughout the Arab world that people don’t want to be at war anymore,” a senior U.S. official told reporters on Wednesday.

This is a case of what Israelis call the “Oct. 6 mind-set” – the pattern of thought common before the Hamas massacre on Oct. 7 exposed it as dangerous naivete. If Hamas simply wanted “a better economic future for their families,” it wouldn’t have sent death squads to slaughter 1,200 Israeli men, women and children.

The U.S. officials spoke only of taking Hamas’s “heavy weaponry,” leaving out what would happen to the AK-47s on which Hamas’s power and ability to murder dissenting Gazans rests. The U.S. is engaging and coordinating with Hamas on all matters of Gaza’s current and future governance, which legitimizes the terrorists.

What happened to the point in Mr. Trump’s plan that said “Hamas and other factions agree to not have any role in the governance of Gaza, directly, indirectly, or in any form”?

Perhaps Hamas will hand over some weapons, but the Israelis expect to have to do the job themselves once U.S. officials realize no one else will. The smart move would be for the Board of Peace to impose a deadline on Hamas to disarm and let Jerusalem enforce it.

    • “The Glass Wall”: How Israel Turned Intelligence into an Insurance Policy—and Failed

Israel’s intelligence was the most advanced in the world. But in the week before Oct. 7, 2023, it forgot to look at the Gaza bakery, which suddenly was asked to prepare hundreds of pita breads, or the barber shop in Jabalia that, on Oct. 4, was suddenly flooded with dozens of Nukhba operatives getting haircuts to look sharp before joining their 72 virgins.

“We struck them hard and they are deterred,” former director of the Israel Security Agency, Nadav Argaman, declared in May 2021. “They want an economy, not a war,” the political leadership told us. Then came the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on Oct. 7.

The catastrophic error that led to this disaster was Israel’s excessively rational lens, rooted in Western logic – the belief that people act to maximize personal and family welfare. That is how Israel’s value system works.

The intelligence community and the political leadership refused to truly understand the jihadist fanaticism that had taken over Gaza.

      • From the article:
The Sin of Hubris: Intelligence as a Glass Wall

For years, Israel’s national resilience was built on the myth of knowledge and intent. […] Israel built a resilient “wall of glass:” extremely strong, dazzling, a marvel of technology—yet terrifyingly fragile. The moment the underlying conception cracked, everything shattered.…

This metaphor recalls Founding Father, Ze’ev Jabotinsky’s “Iron Wall” (1923):

“Jabotinsky says it is natural for the Arabs to resist Zionism. As a result Zionism shouldn’t expect to negotiate the establishment of a state.

“Instead he argues that Zionism be impregnable. So much so that the Arabs believe that they have no choice but to acquiesce. We must present an iron wall to convince them that hope of destroying us is a fool’s errand.

“This is the opposite of what Israel has been doing. Instead it is the Arabs who have built an iron wall in their rejection of Israel or compromise.

“Once we internalize this we will understand that there is no diplomatic solution and that Israel must act unilaterally.”

        …….
        See: Texts Concerning Zionism:
        “The Iron Wall”

It is incredible what political simpletons Jews are. They shut their eyes to one of the most elementary rules of life, that you must not “meet halfway” those who do not want to meet you.

        • More from, The Iron Wall, Jabotinsky, 1923:

Two brief remarks: In the first place, if anyone objects that this point of view is immoral, I answer: It is not true; either Zionism is moral and just or it is immoral and unjust.

But that is a question that we should have settled before we became Zionists. Actually we have settled that question, and in the affirmative.

We hold that Zionism is moral and just. And since it is moral and just, justice must be done, no matter whether Joseph or Simon or Ivan or Achmet agree with it or not.

          There is no other morality.

All this does not mean that any kind of agreement is impossible, only a voluntary agreement is impossible. As long as there is a spark of hope that they can get rid of us, they will not sell these hopes, not for any kind of sweet words or tasty morsels, because they are not a rabble but a nation, perhaps somewhat tattered, but still living.

A living people makes such enormous concessions on such fateful questions only when there is no hope left.

Only when not a single breach is visible in the iron wall, only then do extreme groups lose their sway, and influence transfers to moderate groups.

Only then would these moderate groups come to us with proposals for mutual concessions.

And only then will moderates offer suggestions for compromise on practical questions like a guarantee against expulsion, or equality and national autonomy.

Jabotinsky was born in Odessa, Russia in 1880. Liberal education, more European than Jewish. Spoke Russian, French, English, German and various Slavic languages, eventually learned Hebrew.

Having observed the Young Turk Revolution (think ethnic cleansing), he became a relentless advocate for Zionism and resettlement of the Jews in Mandatory Palestine.

Note: Bibi’s father, Benzion Netanyahu, [z”l] moved from pre-state Jerusalem to New York in the late 1930s to become Jabotinsky’s private secretary.

  5. The Inclusion of Turkey and Qatar in Gaza’s Governance Instills Hope in Hamas

Israel’s defense establishment believes that Hamas is increasingly motivated to rebuild and recover, encouraged in part by President Trump’s plan for Gaza, Hebrew media reported Sunday. The assessment, reportedly delivered in closed-door briefings to Israel’s political echelon, came after the U.S. announced the start of phase two of the Trump plan for ending the Gaza war.

Security sources said Hamas is hoping to model Gaza after Lebanon, where Hizbullah wields significant power. A November 2024 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon mandated that Hizbullah be disarmed, but the group insists it will not do so.

Hamas, like Hizbullah, is expected to stall for time and delay giving up its weapons. According to officials quoted by Israel’s Channel 12, Hamas “will do everything it can to drag out the process and exhaust all parties, while reconstruction on the ground begins in practice.”

Hamas’s thinking has been shaped in no small part by Washington’s decision to include both Turkey and Qatar in the post-war management of Gaza, the security sources said.

“The inclusion of Turkey and Qatar in the Executive Board instills in [Hamas] long-term hope and short-term courage.” Their inclusion on the Executive Board could eventually “undermine the IDF’s achievements in the war,” the security sources warned.

    Abdulrahman al-Rashed:
Is Iran Ready to End Its External Interventions?

The Iranian regime is facing an existential crisis for the first time since its founding. The regime stubbornly adopted the nuclear project despite the clear impossibility of being allowed to possess it. Today, it is paying the price and finds itself standing at the finish line, stripped naked, without nuclear deterrence.

The regime also persistently adopted projects of external change and the export of chaos, declaring them official state policy. We are now witnessing the collapse of most of the external revolutionary project.

Very little time remains for the regime to take courageous decisions. It can spare itself destruction by retreating from its hostile policies toward countries in the region, dismantling the military institutions that were built to create chaos and threaten neighbors, and refraining from imposing its will on the peoples of the region. Ending the nuclear program and external activity are capable of sparing Iran foreign intervention.

  7. Reading the latest headline from the Appeals Court reminds me of reading about Event 201 held in New York on October 18, 2019. My thoughts then were they, the mad monsters are going to come up with a pandemic.

Then the panic set in, the constant fear, the propaganda machine went into overdrive. I remember going to town for groceries and EVERYONE was wearing masks. I was actually amused at the number who fell for this BS. I saw a sweet friend and approached her, she yelled social distancing and backed away.

I went into the drug store and a woman yelled mask, where is your mask, and then demanded I leave because I did not have one and refused to wear a paper one she offered.

I went into another store and saw and heard a short little man who walked with a swagger, telling the owner that as long as he did what this short little man told him there would be no problem. I later learned this little man wearing green boots that appeared to have cow or horse pucky on them was one of Doug Ford’s Covid Compliance Officers / Inspector / Ambassador. He was there to monitor public space, business, any place to ensure social distancing, mask mandates, capacity limits. He was listening to snitches. I still thought it all so ridiculous and would be over as quick as it started. I remember saying to a cashier “I can’t wait for it all to be normal again.”, to which she replied “We are never going back to normal.”

I started reading the VARES Report as soon as it was available and was horrified at the numbers and from day one thought the vaccines would be cancelled very soon, just like they cancelled the Swine Flu Shots. It never happened.

Friends and a few family members stopped talking to me, people did not want to hear anything negative about the “safe and effective shots”. Fear was everywhere, the government of Canada sent out a large card saying Learn more or book your Covid-19 vaccine appointment: Canada.ca/covid vaccine. The VARES number were going up higher and higher and still nothing was halted. I started walking the goose step to make people realize the government, the politicians were coercing them. The fear just kept blaring away on tv, newspapers, radio.

I followed many doctors who were saying no, do not comply. I read anything I could find that Professor Dolores Cahill, Stephanie Seneff PhD, Dr. Mark Trozzi, Wakefield, the Old Man in the Rocking chair had to say. I was never going to get the shots, I never get sick, I never get the flu or the flu shot.

So yesterday day I thought about Professor Cahill and wondered where she was, what has happened to her. Much to my chagrin, I found a hit piece about her on the McGill University Office for “Science” and Society. It is called the Strange Case of Dr. Cahill and Ms. Hyde.
Here is some of the trash they spewed: “She has said, falsely, that Covid-19 can be prevented by taking Vitamin C, D and zinc, and that most effective treatment is in the form of hydroxychloroquine, a cheap medication against malaria and autoimmune diseases that turned into an object of worship for some individuals, even as the evidence clearly showed it did not work against Covid-19. She has boldly stated that children wearing a mask – the kind that doctors, nurses and dentists have been wearing for decades — would be starved of oxygen and see their IQs lowered. as for RNA-based vaccines she falsely claimed they did more harm than good. “If you paid me ten million dollars” she warned, lI wouldn’t take it. I would go to prison first. if someone vaccinated me (with a RNA vaccine), I would charge them with attempted murder.”

Initially when I read Professor Cahill, former Professor at the School of Medicine at
University College, Dublin, Honours degree in Molecular Genetics from Trinity College, Dublin, PhD in Immunology from Dublin City University, she described what the vaccine would do to your body — cyclonic storm — how eventually your organs would collapse and you would drop dead suddenly.

The last VARES Report I was allowed to see there were over 2 million
vaccine injuries and that was in 2022. Maybe next someone can figure how there could be an inquiry into vaccine injuries and deaths and finally they will be pulled.

And why not have an inquiry into why Carney, Freeland, Mendincino and the feckless drama Queen pushed for the Emergency Act when they knew about the number of dead and injured from the vaccines. We, the people, have witnessed a lot of carnage and destruction, now some people need to be held accountable.

What a tragic situation when a skin cancer patient who has been operated on and cared for for 20 plus years, can no longer have the doctor operate on them in a hospital situation because the doctor refused to be vaccinated. I now believe we will never go back to normal, the goose step is within reach.
