This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    The majority of likely 2024 voters prefer deporting illegal aliens over granting them amnesty, according to a new poll released this week.

    A survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports found that a 54 percent majority of likely voters support a policy to mass deport all illegal aliens, including 36 percent of voters who “strongly” support it.

    There are an estimated 11 to 22 million illegal aliens in the United States.

    “The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that, if given a choice between two candidates, one of whom favored granting amnesty to illegal aliens and one of whom favored deporting all illegal aliens, 52% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the candidate who favored deportation,” the pollsters found. “Thirty-six percent (36%) would vote for the candidate who favored amnesty, while 12% are undecided.”

    EXCLUSIVE: The Obama-Biden State Department “actively interfered” to prevent the FBI from executing arrest warrants on individuals illegally in the United States who were allegedly supporting Iranian financial efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction, whistleblowers told Sens.     Benedictine College is a small classical Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas, about an hour east of Kansas City, MO. It’s a “real” Catholic school and on the trad-friendly Cardinal Newman list of approved colleges. Catholics I know send their kids there and love it. It’s the type of school that produces young people who want to get married and start families after graduation; not ten years after graduating, but right after graduating.

    In an outrageous travesty of justice, a New York City liquor store owner is facing multiple years behind bars for shooting a thief after being robbed and viciously attacked.

    As the New York Post reported, 53-year-old Francisco Valerio and his brother Luis caught two suspects trying to slip bottles of alcohol into their jackets inside Franja Wines and Liquors in Ridgewood. The incident occurred at roughly 7:45 p.m. Monday.

    The United Bodegas of America (UBA), a trade group, released footage showing the Valerios grabbing the thieves, who were identified as Kevin Pullutasi and Edwin Paiquiza, after catching them in the act. They then shoved them towards the door.

    The incident then took a dramatic turn once it was outside on the sidewalk on Wyckoff Avenue. The brothers can be seen in the video trading insults with the suspects.

    Taipei, Taiwan — Taiwan scrambled jets and put missile, naval and land units on alert Thursday over Chinese military exercises being conducted around the self-governing island democracy where a new president took office this week. China’s military said its two-day exercises around Taiwan were punishment for separatist forces seeking independence.

    Beijing claims Taiwan is part of China’s national territory and the People’s Liberation Army sends navy ships and warplanes into the Taiwan Strait and other areas around the island almost daily to wear down Taiwan’s defenses and seek to intimidate its people, who firmly back their de facto independence.

    China’s “irrational provocation has jeopardized regional peace and stability,” the island’s Defense Ministry said. It said Taiwan will seek no conflicts but “will not shy away from one.”

    “This pretext for conducting military exercises not only does not contribute to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, but also shows its hegemonic nature at heart,” the ministry’s statement said.

    After a recent summit between new partners China and Russia, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin issued an odd one-sentence communique: “There can be no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be fought.”

    No one would disagree, even though several officials of both hypocritical governments have previously threatened their neighbors with nuclear attacks.

    But still, why did the two feel the need to issue such a terse statement—and why now?

    Rarely has the global rhetoric of mass annihilation reached such a crescendo as the present, as existential wars rage in Ukraine and Gaza.

    In particular, Putin at least believes that he is finally winning the Ukraine conflict. Xi seems to assume that conventional ascendant Chinese military power in the South China Sea has finally made the absorption of Taiwan practicable.

    They both believe that the only impediment to their victories would be an intervention from the U.S. and the NATO alliance, a conflict that could descend into mutual threats to resort to nuclear weapons.

    Thus the recent warnings of Xi and Putin.

    Almost monthly, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un continues his weary threats to use his nuclear arsenal to destroy South Korea or Japan.

    A similarly monotonous, pro-Hamas Turkish president, Recep Erdogan, regularly threatens Armenians with crazy talk of repeating the “mission of our grandfathers.” And he occasionally warns Israelis and Greeks that they may one day wake up to Turkish missiles raining down upon their cities.

    More concretely, for the first time in history, Iran attacked the homeland of Israel. It launched the largest wartime array of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones in modern history—over 320 projectiles.

    Iran’s theocrats simultaneously claim they are about ready to produce nuclear weapons. And, of course, since 1979, Iran has periodically promised to wipe Israel off the map and half the world’s Jews with it.

    Most ignore these crazy threats and write them off as the braggadocio of dictators. But as we saw on October 7, the barbarity of human nature has not changed much from the premodern world, whether defined by savage beheading, mutilations, murdering, mass rape, torture, and hostage taking of Israeli elderly, women, and children.

    But what has radically transformed are the delivery systems of mass death—nuclear weapons, chemical gases, biological agents, and artificial-intelligence-driven delivery systems.

    Oddly, the global reaction to the promise of Armageddon remains one of nonchalance. Most feel that such strongmen rant wildly but would never unleash weapons of civilizational destruction.

    Consider that there are as many autocratic nuclear nations (e.g., Russia, China, Pakistan, North Korea, and perhaps Iran) as democratic ones (U.S., Britain, France, Israel, and India). Only Israel has an effective anti-ballistic missile dome. And the more the conventional power of the West declines, the more in extremis it will have to rely on a nuclear deterrent—at a time when it has no effective missile defense of its homelands.

    In a just-released book, The End of Everything, I wrote about four examples of annihilation—the classical city-state of Thebes, ancient Carthage, Byzantine Constantinople and Aztec Tenochtitlán—in which the unimaginable became all too real.

    In all these erasures, the targeted, naïve states believed that their illustrious pasts, rather than a realistic appraisal of their present inadequate defenses, would ensure their survival.

    All hoped that their allies—the Spartans, the anti-Roman Macedonians, the Christian nations of Western Europe, and the subject cities of the Aztecs—would appear at the eleventh hour to stave off their defeat.

    Additionally, these targeted states had little understanding of the agendas and capabilities of the brilliantly methodic killers outside their walls—the ruthless wannabe philosopher Alexander the Great, the literary patron Scipio Aemilianus, the self-described intellectual Mehmet II, and the widely read Hernán Cortés—who all sought to destroy utterly rather than merely defeat their enemies.

    These doomed cities and nations were reduced to rubble or absorbed by the conquerors. Their populations were wiped out or enslaved, and their once-hallowed cultures, customs, and traditions lost to history. The last words of the conquered were usually variations of, “It can’t happen here.”

    If the past is any guide to the present, we should take heed that what almost never happens in war can certainly still occur.

    When killers issue wild, even lunatic, threats, we should nonetheless take them seriously.

    We should not count on friends or neutrals to save our civilization. Instead, Americans should build defense systems over the skies of our homeland, secure our borders, ensure our military operates on meritocracy, cease wild deficit spending and borrowing, and rebuild both our conventional and nuclear forces.

    Otherwise, we will naively—and fatally—believe that we are magically exempt when the inconceivable becomes all too real.

      An astute friend recently observed that today’s crisis in the Middle East boils down to one question about two dates: Which historic moment is likelier to be reversed: 1948 or 1979?

The implication of the question is that it’s one or the other: The Jewish state and the Islamic republic cannot permanently coexist, at least so long as the latter seeks to destroy the former.     How the IDF’s 98th Division faces the challenges of clearing terrorists from this key north Gaza neighborhood, and what it has learned from seven months of war.

    Jabalya is a densely populated urban area northeast of Gaza City. Terrorists came from Jabalya to attack Israel on Oct. 7. Jabalya had been cleared of terrorists last December, but there were areas the IDF didn’t reach, and Hamas returned. The IDF has now been operating in Jabalya for 10 days. Raids are carried out with an understanding of the need to clear Hamas from areas both underground and aboveground.

    The IDF’s tactic in Gaza of clearing areas but not remaining in them has been critiqued because it lets Hamas return. But leaving soldiers to control civilian areas, where they are likely to be targeted by enemy snipers, is not currently seen as an ideal use of them.

    The fighting continues every day, and about 10 to 20 terrorists are eliminated each day. In the first 10 days of the current operation, about 200 terrorists were killed. The IDF tactic of going into an area and clearing it, leaving it, and clearing it again is having an effect.

    Even though the enemy returns, they return in fewer numbers. After seven months of war, troops are learning how to recognize areas where there might be improvised explosive devices (IEDs). They also learn to sense where tunnel shafts may be located.

    The IDF continues to find weapons in many civilian homes. Almost every house has been used by terrorists in some form or another, including providing entrances to tunnels or observation posts, or hiding ammunition. The soldiers fighting in Gaza believe they will defeat Hamas over the long run.

    Israel Doesn’t Need Better ‘Hasbara’ [public diplomacy]
    It needs better friends

    A narrative has developed that Israel needed to do a better job of making its case in the international media. Sniping about shortcomings in messaging can be constructive, but more often it distracts from the underlying forces that have created so much pressure on Israel to not fight the war in Gaza in the way that would be necessary to win.

    To see global hostility toward Israel as primarily a problem of optics rather than something deeper is to miss the entire essence of the conflict, and why the world cares so much about it in the first place…

    Media coverage shows the same disproportionate focus as the activities of international institutions.…

    Information is filtered through various ideologies and in many cases a worldview that centers Jews, or white people with Jews as proxies, as a fundamental cause of many of the problems humanity is facing. Most of the international community is committed to anti-Western, Third Worldist, or antisemitic narratives for one reason or another. These are forces beyond the ability of any spokesman of the IDF to control or significantly influence.

    The bad news is that most of the world is going to hate Israel no matter what. At the same time, the U.S. is really the only country outside the region that matters.

    The best thing individuals can do to shape public opinion in Israel’s favor is to be more confident and assertive allies. This involves not granting the premise of moral equivalency between Israelis and the Palestinians. A nation defending itself and inflicting collateral damage is not the same as a movement with exterminationist goals, which seeks to slaughter innocent people as an end in itself.

    Friends of Israel must push back on any ideology that emphasizes Western wickedness and identity politics, of which hostility to the world’s only Jewish state must be a byproduct. These larger battles will ultimately determine whether Israel can in the coming years continue to count on the U.S. as an ally. The war in Gaza has captured the attention of the world because Israel has emerged as the main avatar of Western civilization.

    Although the PA has publicly indicated its desire to return to Gaza, Palestinian officials in Ramallah say this could not happen as long as Hamas’ military capabilities have not been completely destroyed.

    PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ top concern right now is ensuring that Hamas does not win on the battlefield or in the arena of public opinion. The growing popularity of Iran-backed Hamas among Palestinians following the Oct. 7 massacre of Israelis appears to be Abbas’ primary concern.

    To prevent the return of Abbas loyalists, Hamas security personnel in civilian clothes are patrolling the streets of several Gaza communities. Last month, Hamas announced that its men detained several PA intelligence officers who had “infiltrated” Gaza while posing as humanitarian assistance workers. Despite the significant losses Hamas has sustained during the war, it still maintains many eyes and ears throughout Gaza.

    The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) said: “We view with great danger the American floating pier dock and warn against it….The pier is a service to the Zionist enemy and an act of propaganda and deception….Any American, Zionist, or other force present on any inch of our land will be a legitimate target for our resistance.”

    Even the Palestinian Authority’s ruling Fatah faction has come out against the U.S. pier. Fatah spokesman Abdel Fattah Dawla called the pier “a consecration of the [Israeli] occupation.”
