Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  2. This analysis comes at me from a fresh angle, which means I’m behind. It speaks of the German “superpower trajectory”. My reaction is you’ve got to be kidding given its current deindustrialization. My other thought is that here they talk about Macron setting up possible European troops on Uke ground to continue the war, while many in the west, shockingly, still don’t realize the extent to which this is a proxy war.

    After Thursday’s partisan and angry State of the Union Address, Joe Biden was caught on a hot mic boasting that he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “You and I are going to have a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting.”

    In full damage control, Biden sat down Saturday with MSNBC‘s Jonathan Capehart, where he said the quiet part out loud about who really benefits from a potential ceasefire in Gaza.

    Biden boasted that he has pushed for a ceasefire in Gaza until Israel has a plan to evacuate the citizens occupying the remaining areas.

    Capehart asks, “Who actually wants a deal? Do you think Hamas actually wants a ceasefire?”

    Biden’s response is telling.

    “Well, I think Hamas would like a total ceasefire across the board because they (unintelligible garble) can then have a better chance to survive and maybe rebuild. But that’s not what …. I think the vast majority of people think … you have to…look…”

    Biden pauses, perhaps realizing his blunder, perhaps drifting off as per usual, and as he continues, he insinuates that Israel is carpet bombing Gaza, “After what happened in World War II, and the carpet bombing that took place, what happened was, we ended up in a situation where we changed the rules of the game, what constitutes the legitimate rules of war.”

  8. ANOTHER AIRLINE DISASTER: Passengers Smash into the Ceiling After Boeing 787 Plane Nosedives Mid-Flight Due to “Technical Problem”- 50 Injured, 12 Hospitalized (VIDEO)

    Fifty people were injured onboard a Boeing plane Monday, with some smashing into the ceiling when it “suddenly nosedived” mid-flight.

    This marks the latest disaster for Boeing after a wheel fell off one of their planes mid-flight and another skidded off the runway just last week.

    As Newsweek noted, a spokesperson for the Chilean airline LATAM told news outlets that a “technical problem” on the flight had harmed passengers and crew members. The airline also claimed the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner experienced a “strong movement” but refused to elaborate.

    The airplane was traveling from Sydney, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand, when the turbulence hit.

    Reuters reported a continent of emergency vehicles from Hato Hone St John was called to Auckland Airport at 3:58 local time after the passengers and crew were injured. St. John sent 14 units to the scene, including seven ambulances, two operation managers, two Major Incident Support Team vehicles, one command unit, and two rapid response vehicles.

    Several key responsibilities of the Alaska Air National Guard will suffer at the behest of the National Guard Bureau, which is essentially taking away those qualified to conduct their mission to protect the United States.

    In January, the director of the Air National Guard sent an email to the 54 individuals that form the Adjutants General Association of the United States (AGAUS) who are tasked with bolstering state and national military security.

    The email announced “a cross-leveling” of all Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) positions in every state. The total number of AGRs across all states has been capped at 25,333 by congressional mandate for the past four to five years.

    The Gateway Pundit spoke to Alan Brown, who currently serves as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Alaska National Guard and Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Brown retired from the Army in 2020 after 23 years of active-duty service.

  11. A Dehumanizing Corruption Story From India Reminds Me Again Why the Second Amendment is Sacrosanct

    Previously, I have written about corruption in India in the context of gun permit bribery in California, Maryland, and New York. I reminisced on the corruption I personally witnessed, and how it was eerily similar to the corruption in the one area some American apparatchiks had unfettered discretion: gun permits. The following excerpt captures the gist of what I saw before I emigrated to the United States:

    Growing up in India, I was used to daily corruption because of the way the bureaucracy was imprudently set up. You had to bribe cops to get out of traffic infractions instead of paying a ticket. If your stolen vehicle got recovered by the police, you had to bribe them to get your vehicle back. (A family friend of mine whose car was worth less than the bribe the cops asked for walked away and let the cops keep his stolen car.) Anytime the government was involved, there was corruption: getting a landline, train tickets, getting a birth or a death certificate, a building permit, driver’s license, sewer/water hookup, you name it and there was corruption.

    Things are undoubtedly improving in India, but there still is deep-rooted corruption in far too many places for the people of the world’s largest democracy to call themselves free. I learned of one such heartbreaking story recently.

    A couple of months ago, there was an unexpected death in my extended family in India. A relative of mine lost her husband, who passed away while traveling out of town for a few days. She got a call out of the blue from the police in the other town informing her of his death, asking her to identify and collect his body.

    My relative started her trip, shocked, dazed and alone, to get to the mortuary several hours away. When she got there, imagine her shock when the mortuary staff and the police asked for a bribe to release her husband’s body. The mortuary staff and police basically told her that she had to pay the bribe, or they would keep the body and drag out their work into a “suspicious death” investigation. In Hindu tradition, cremations are supposed to happen within a day of someone’s passing, so this was egregious from a religious standpoint. My grieving relative paid the bribe to get her husband’s body.

    How cruel can someone be, especially to a widow in anguish and distress? What if this had happened to the cops’ or the mortuary staff’s relatives? How could they not put themselves in her shoes and experience her pain and grief? Clearly, even the most basic human decency succumbs to the drunken arrogance of unchecked power.

    In the modern era of smartphones with cameras, people are recording such corruption and publicizing it. If the recording hits the social media outrage jackpot, one can expect some action or resolution in that particular case. However, it’s not guaranteed, and even if there’s action, the other bureaucrats usually revert to their corruption once the public’s attention fades.

    The roots of this corruption are complicated, and I won’t get into that. But what I would like to point out is that the government apparatchiks wouldn’t behave this way if they knew that the people were armed and could collectively inflict serious violence on them.

    It is, of course, best to avoid violence and attempt reform through democratic, nonviolent means. However, the American Founding Fathers knew that violence as a last resort can sometimes be necessary. They wrote the Second Amendment not to let capricious people overthrow the Constitution willy-nilly, but to let a thoughtful People overthrow men who pervert the Constitution and tyrannize them.

    What’s smeared today as the “insurrectionary” interpretation of the Second Amendment was the norm and the Founding generation knew this by heart. If the Second Amendment’s “security of a free State” rationale isn’t clear enough, I would like to point the reader to Article 10 of the New Hampshire Bill of Rights, written in 1784, which explicitly talks about Revolution:

    [Art.] 10. [Right of Revolution.] Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

    June 2, 1784

    I would like to emphasize that I am not advocating violence or rebellion in any way. But it’s obvious from a plethora of documents and sources that individual self-defense is only one part of the Second Amendment; the collectivized aspect of self-defense against one’s own government is the core and should never be ceded, lest we end up in a place where a grieving widow is shaken down for a bribe to get her husband’s body.

  15. Writer Asks “Where Are The Black People?” in New ‘Shogun’ Samurai Series Set in Ancient Japan

    FX recently released a new version of the wildly popular 1980s TV miniseries Sh?gun.

    Sh?gun is based on a famous novel by James Clavell and is set in Japan in the 1600’s.

    The network shares, “FX’s Sh?gun, based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel, is set in Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. “Lord Yoshii Toranaga” (Hiroyuki Sanada) is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.”

    However, at least one writer is concerned that the story of Japanese warriors is not “Black” enough.

    William Spivey writes:

    The 2024 version focuses far more on the Japanese perspective. The white characters appearing in the first episodes representing Portugal, Spain, England, and Holland could hardly be deemed heroic. However, the character John Blackthorne, now played by Cosmo Jarvis, is already a pivotal figure and will be a hero, along with several Japanese characters. Others are already praising the new 10-part series as a cultural sea change from the 1980 version. I ask the question now that I naively didn’t ask in 1980. Where are the Black people?

    I don’t ask out of a desire to see representation when it wasn’t historically accurate. I inquire because there were Black people in Japan in 1600 and before, though Japan could teach Florida a thing or two about rewriting history. According to multiple sources, one of the early real-life Shoguns, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro (758–811), was Black, though denied by others. There is a consensus he was something other than pure Japanese, and he is often considered descended from the Ainu, the darker-skinned indigenous people of northern Japan who were subjected to forced assimilation and colonization.

    Spivey also claims that a Japanese proverb says, “For a Samurai to be brave, he must have a bit of Black blood.” But when pushed, he could not provide a source.

    One commenter on Spivey’s article shared, “As a black man my self, please stop embarrassing us writing stuff like this. We do not have to be included in everything, especially when it does not make sense historically. Articles like this make it hard for people to take us serious when we do ask for meaningful representation in media, and as you can see, everyone is laughing at us when articles like this get written.”

    • Every other source I’ve seen describes the Ainu as having lighter-tone skin color. https://www.tofugu.com/japan/ainu-japan/ Physically, the Ainu stand out distinctly from the Japanese as a separate ethnic group. Ainu people tend to have light skin, a stout frame, deep-set eyes with a European shape, and thick, wavy hair. Full-blooded Ainu may have even had blue eyes or brown hair.

  17. Democrats’ Meltdown Over Trump Immunity Case Proves SCOTUS Is Right To Hear It

    Special Counsel Jack Smith did everything he could to rush this case to verdict before the election while cowardly never admitting it.

    On Feb. 28, the Supreme Court agreed to review former President Donald Trump’s argument that he is immune from criminal prosecution for his official acts relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

    Members of Congress and federal judges are immune from civil and criminal prosecution for their official acts. Currently, presidents are only immune from civil prosecution for their official acts. That is because the Supreme Court has never had to decide whether that extends to criminal prosecutions, as no president has ever faced a criminal prosecution until the Democrats’ four criminal indictments against Trump.

    The justices will hear the argument the week of April 22, and a decision is expected by the end of June. Despite there having been no noted dissents from the Supreme Court’s order, anti-Trump legal analysts seethed over the decision. Special Counsel Jack Smith had urged the justices to review the case in December and to bypass any decision by the appellate court. MSNBC pundit Elie Mystal referred to six justices as “six Republicans in robes.” Vox’s Ian Millhiser fumed that the court had “just handed Trump an astonishing victory.” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow characterized the decision as “bullpucky.” Professor Laurence Tribe of Harvard expressed the fear that “justice delayed is justice denied.”

  19. Nightmare Scenario: How a Trump Trial Could Now Run Up to (or Through) the 2024 Election

    Below is my column in the Hill on the real possibility of a federal trial of former president Donald Trump just before or even through the 2024 election. The claim that this schedule is the result of treating Trump like other criminal defendants is increasingly dubious given statements of courts and the Special Counsel.

    Here is the column:

    “This trial will not yield to the election cycle.” Those words of U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan last year made clear that she will not consider that Donald Trump will likely be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee in setting the schedule for his federal trial in Washington, D.C.

    Most recently, in the federal prosecution in Florida, Special Counsel Jack Smith declared that he will not consider himself bound by the Justice Department’s longstanding policy of not bringing charges or holding trials of candidates close to an election.

    With the Supreme Court reviewing the immunity question (and a decision not expected until June), a nightmare scenario is unfolding in which Trump could be tried not just before the general election, but actually through November’s election.

    Protesters opposed to Israel’s war in Gaza demonstrated outside a ceremony to mark the opening of the Netherlands’ first Holocaust museum on Sunday, citing the presence of the Israeli president.
    More than 1,000 people joined in the protest over the ceremony, which took place in Amsterdam’s historic Portuguese Synagogue. The protesters came from the Dutch Palestinian community, Socialists International and Erev Rav, a local Jewish anti-Zionist group.
    All had been activated after news broke last week that Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, would attend the opening ceremony of the National Holocaust Museum, two decades in the making.
    An alliance of more than 200 Dutch mosques petitioned King Willem-Alexander not to attend as planned, and the Rights Forum, a Dutch Palestinian rights group, called Herzog’s attendance and meeting with the king a “slap in the face for Palestinians who are watching helplessly as Israel murders their loved ones and destroys their country.”

    Activists with the human rights group Amnesty International installed “detour” signs around the museum that directed Herzog to the International Court of Justice in the Hague, which is considering a genocide charge brought by South Africa against Israel.
    The charge names Herzog, citing his remarks soon after the Oct. 7 attack in which he said “an entire nation” was responsible for the Oct. 7 attacks and that Israel would fight “until we break their backbone.” Herzog has said that his words were misrepresented and taken out of context.
