Reader’s Links for October 4th, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. The Gateway Pundit previously reported that COVID cases are plummeting in India thanks to new rules that promote Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to its massive population. The 33 districts in Uttar Pradesh, India have now become free from COVID-19 government informed on September 10. The recovery rate has increased up to 98.7% proving the effectiveness of IVERMECTIN as part of the “Uttar Pradesh Covid Control Model.”

Of course, there’s a media blackout, the media won’t mention that Ivermectin is being used for the treatment of COVID-19 with great success.

Now, The Desert Review website released the fifth part of its highly detailed report on the use of Ivermectin in India. This fifth part tackles the reason for India’s Ivermectin Blackout.

The website highlighted famous science blogger Dr. John Campbell detailing the Uttar Pradesh success story. Dr. John Campbell has a verified account on Youtube with 1.15 million subscribers.

He discussed the ingredients and dosages of the magical medicine home treatment kit responsible for eradicating COVID in Uttar Pradesh. He also broke India’s Ivermectin blackout wide open on Youtube that will upset the Big Pharma, the WHO, and the CDC.

A group representing local public school boards is asking the Biden administration to invoke the Patriot Act and federal hate crimes legislation, among other measures, to go after parents who have aggressively opposed board policies and members who have adopted measures such as mask mandates and the teaching of critical race theory curricula.

The request ”to deal with the growing number of threats of violence and acts of intimidation occurring across the nation” comes as reports of angry parents expressing opposition to COVID-19 policies and curriculum changes — particularly those tied to critical race theory — have become more frequent.

Though he was hired to report anything that seemed amiss, it quickly became clear to him that Republican leaders weren’t interested in detecting fraud.

Since Republican officials weren’t interested in Wilhelm’s claims of fraud, he sat down with our very own Stew Peters yesterday to discuss what exactly he saw during the Georgia runoffs, and he didn’t hesitate to say that he witnessed “a lot of irregularities.”

BOOM! Sen. Ron Johnson Drops Truth-Bomb on Senate Floor – 63% of UK Delta Deaths in Last 7.5 Months Were Fully Vaccinated (VIDEO)

Senator Ron Johnson took to the Senate floor on Thursday to unveil some Covid facts that the mainstream media have been censoring to keep Americans from finding out the truth.

Johnson referred directly to public health figures from England, because health authorities in the United States are obfuscating the facts or misleading Americans with their Covid reports.

“Let’s look at some data,” Sen. Johnson said. “The type of data we are not getting from our healthcare agencies, so we have to look, unfortunately, to England and Israel, that are more transparent.”

“I will give you the highlights,” Johnson went on. “But I am showing that this is from Public Health England. This is one of their federal healthcare agencies. This is from their Technical Briefing number 23, dated September 17th, 2021.”

…“Well, we have data from England,” he went on. “And here’s the data. So, of the 600,000 cases in England, 43% were the unvaxxed, 27% were with the fully vaxxed, another 30% were with partially vaxxed, or just undetermined.

…. of the 600,000 new cases of Delta, of the over 2,500 deaths, 63% of those deaths, 1,613 people, were the fully vaccinated. Twenty-eight percent were with the unvaxxed.”

In light of Liberty Unyielding saddling up to ride off into the sunset today, I’ve been working on a final “timeline” article that assembles some general-theory thoughts about where John Durham’s indictment of Michael Sussmann, and Sussmann’s key connection with the Alfa Bank subplot in Spygate/Russiagate, fit into the whole picture.

As often happens, time and subsequent thought have clarified for me that (a) this isn’t going to be completed in the next three hours (i.e., before the end of 3 October 2021 on the East coast), and (b) posting it as a farewell article is probably not the best approach anyway.

Instead, the lengthy article itself will appear as the first feature since December 2015 at my old blog, the Optimistic Conservative. (I will, however, add a Web Crawler headline for it at LU once it’s gone to post. As noted in our farewell to readers this past week, the LU archive will remain live for the foreseeable future, although comments will close out in a few days.)

The purpose of this present article is to offer a much-abbreviated preview of the longer one to come.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Monday the government was abandoning its strategy of eliminating COVID-19 in the country amid a persistent Delta variant outbreak, instead looking to live with the virus and control its spread as vaccinations rise.

Health authorities reported 29 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number in the current outbreak to 1,357 with the majority in Auckland, which has been in lockdown for nearly 50 days.

Ardern said her strategy has never been to have zero cases, but to aggressively stamp out the coronavirus. • reuters – Thailand joins Asian nations in rush to buy Merck’s COVID-19 pill

Thailand’s government is in talks with Merck & Co (MRK.N) to buy 200,000 courses of its experimental antiviral pill for COVID-19 treatment, the latest Asian nation to scramble for supplies of the drug after lagging behind Western countries for vaccines.

Somsak Akksilp, director-general of the Department of Medical Services, told Reuters that Thailand is currently working on a purchasing agreement for the antiviral drug, known as molnupiravir.

South Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia said they are alsoin talks to buy the potential treatment, while the Philippines, which is running a trial on the pill, said it hopes its domestic study would allow access to the treatment.

They all declined to provide details on purchase negotiations.

The rush to order the drug comes after data from interim clinical trials released on Fridayindicated it could reduce by around 50% the chance of hospitalisation or death for patients at risk of severe disease from COVID-19. read more

The molnupiravir pills, designed to introduce errors into the genetic code of the virus, would be the first oral antiviral medication for COVID-19.

Many Asian countries want to lock in supplies early after they were hit by tight supplies in their vaccine rollouts this year, putting them behind wealthier countries which bought hundreds of millions of doses.

“We are now working on a purchasing agreement with Merck that is expected to be completed by this week … we have pre-booked 200,000 courses,” Somsak said

He said the pills could arrive as soon as December, though the deal would be subject to the pills’ approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the Thai regulator.

Representatives at Merck’s Thailand office were not immediately reachable.

Daily confirmed COVID-19 cases in Thailand fell below 10,000 on Monday for the first time since mid-July. The country has administered 55.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines so far, fully inoculating about 31% of the population.

Merck has said it expects to produce 10 million courses of the treatment by the end of 2021. It has a U.S. government contract to supply 1.7 million courses of molnupiravir at a price of $700 per course.

The company has said it plans a tiered pricing approach based on country income criteria.

In the Philippines, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told a regular news conference on Monday that, “We see we can have more access to this medicine because we have this clinical trial counterpart.”

A spokesman for the European Commission said Brussels may launch a joint procurement of the therapy for the bloc, a similar strategy used to buy COVID-19 vaccines, but there was no particular information on Merck’s drug.

A German health ministry spokesperson said the government monitors the development of new therapies, but declined to comment on whether Germany plans to order Merck’s pill.

    • China PCR test orders soared before first reported COVID case

Government contracts show surges in Wuhan-area purchases starting May 2019

TOKYO — Purchases of PCR tests in China’s Hubei Province surged months before the first official reports of a novel coronavirus case there, according to a report from researchers in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia.

About 67.4 million yuan ($10.5 million at current rates) was spent on PCR tests in Hubei during 2019, nearly double the 2018 total, with the upswing starting in May. The report, released by a research team that includes former intelligence officers, is based on records from a website aggregating information on bids for public sector procurement contracts.

The report casts further doubt on China’s official line about the origins of the virus, a topic that has fueled tensions between Beijing and Washington.

PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, tests are used to detect the presence of a particular genetic sequence in a sample, and they have applications beyond COVID-19 testing. But the report alleges the unusual uptick likely signals awareness of a new disease spreading in and around Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province.

Orders doubled from universities, jumped fivefold from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and surged tenfold from animal testing bureaus. Purchases from hospitals declined by more than 10%.

Monthly procurement data shows a spike in orders in May, especially from CDC buyers and the People’s Liberation Army.

“We believe the increased spending in May suggests this as the earliest start date for possible infection,” the report said.

Purchases rose sharply from July through October as well, in particular from the Wuhan University of Science and Technology. The institution spent 8.92 million yuan on PCR tests in 2019, about eight times its total for the previous year.

The university, along with local hospitals and public health authorities, plays a direct role in responding to outbreaks of new diseases, according to the report.

The involvement of these groups provides evidence that “the increase of purchasing was most likely linked to the emergence of COVID-19 in Hubei Province in 2019,” the report said. “We assess with high confidence that the pandemic began much earlier than China informed the [World Health Organization] about COVID-19.”

The U.S. and China have butted heads over the issue since the early days of the pandemic. Beijing told the WHO that the first symptomatic case was recorded Dec. 8, 2019. But some in the U.S. allege that the virus was circulating in humans before then, with claims that it leaked from a research laboratory.

“We can’t say for sure with just” the public procurement information, said Akira Igata, a visiting professor at Tama Graduate School of Business in Tokyo who examined that data independently, “but it’s strong information for making the case that there was awareness of a virus outbreak around Wuhan several months to half a year before that December.”

“This report could provide an opportunity for countries to press China for information again,” Igata said.

Satellite images from Wuhan hospital parking lots show a sharp increase in activity starting in August 2019, according to a study last year by researchers from Harvard and other institutions. But a report in August by U.S. intelligence agencies found no confirmation as to whether the disease spilled over from an animal host or leaked from a lab.

“There has been no sharing of usable data from China regarding how and when COVID-19 started,” said David Robinson, one of the authors of the latest report. “Zero transparency has fueled a lot of hypothesis, theory, misinformation as well as heartache for the victims.”

“Internet 2.0 has used our skills to try and provide some reliable data for the world coming to terms with the impacts of this pandemic,” he added, referring to the cybersecurity company that published the report.

  14. Why Israel Is Stepping Up Its Planning to Deal with Iran’s Nuclear Threat

There is a fundamental disconnect at the heart of the Biden administration’s strategy for preventing Iran from attaining nuclear weapons. The U.S. is trying to persuade Iran to resume compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal. But it also says it seeks a longer and stronger deal that would address the gaping flaws in the original deal.

In other words, it is having a very hard time persuading Tehran to return to a lousy accord, yet hopes it will be able to convince the ayatollahs to agree to a more effective one….

The US approach, and that of the other P5+1 nations party to the 2015 accord, reflects their particular priorities and assessments. Certainly, where the US, UK, France and Germany are concerned, the combination of the ayatollahs and a devastating nuclear weapons capability is seen as a strategic danger.

For Israel, however, a nuclear Iran is an existential threat.

For perhaps three years after the JCPOA was inked, Israel essentially discarded its operational planning and capability to decimate Iran’s nuclear facilities. Not many years earlier, extremely robust military attack plans were in place and arguably close to being implemented. But with the international community, led by the US, locked into a diplomatic arrangement, Israel recognized that such an operation was unthinkable….

Of late, however, in the aftermath of the Trump administration’s withdrawal, and the open Iranian breaching of the accord, such extremely serious planning is again the order of the day….

“We’re putting diplomacy first and seeing where that takes us. But if diplomacy fails, we’re ready to turn to other options,” said Biden.

But that vague formulation — delivered as the US essentially pleads with Iran to return to a leaky deal, deeply breached, that allows it to close in on the bomb – is not regarded in Israel as constituting a credible military threat.

The more so because the US president is grappling with a host of other priorities, is on the defensive after the fiasco of his withdrawal from Afghanistan, and, again, does not regard a nuclear Iran with the same degree of concern as Israel does.

And therefore Israel is ramping up both its rhetoric and its concrete practical preparations.

  15. Iran not getting the bomb any time soon – Military intelligence head

Despite enriching uranium at a level not seen before, Iran still has a long way to go before acquiring a nuclear bomb, according to Israel’s Military Intelligence head Maj.-Gen. Tamir Hayman….

“There is an enriched amount [of uranium] in volumes that we have not seen before and it is disturbing. At the same time, in all other aspects of the Iranian nuclear project, we see no progress…

“Not in the weapons project, in the financial area, not in any other sector. Therefore the period of time that still remains of two years has not changed….”

The killing of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was “one of the most significant and important events in my time,” he said, adding that his assassination made a significant contribution to Israel’s national security….

“He was also the designer of Syria – that’s the bigger story. There are not many people like him… He was a dangerous man… [now that he’s dead, his vision] is hopeless at the moment. Nobody is interested in it. Not the Russians, and not the Syrian regime.”

But as Iran removes its people from Syria, Hezbollah remains entrenched there ready to act against Israel.

The Lebanese Shi’ite terror army, he said, “is a tool that can be used once. Like a match… a bit like the nuclear dilemma: When do you use doomsday weapons?”

The operator of one of the busiest ports in the world has suggested that global supply chain bottlenecks will last for around two years.

Speaking to Bloomberg News, Dubai’s DP World Chairman and Chief Executive Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said he expects bottlenecks to continue until 2023, and warned that the issues will result in higher costs for shipping goods.

“The global supply chain was in crisis in the beginning of the pandemic,” Sulayem told the media outlet. “Freight rates will continue to increase.

“Maybe in 2023, we’ll see an easing.”

Some analysts and other port operators have said that supply chains are struggling to keep pace with demand and deal with labor disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns, and quarantines.

  17. Dr. Fauci declares Americans should ‘give up’ individual freedom ‘for the greater good of society’

Dr. Anthony Fauci declared last week that people hesitant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine should “give up” their individual freedoms “for the greater good of society.”
    What did Fauci say?

After delivering a lecture via livestream at McGill University, which is located in Montreal, Fauci fielded several questions. One question asked Fauci how to approach “the value of individual freedom within the context of this global pandemic.”

First, Fauci took the opportunity to bash Fox News and other right-leaning media outlets. Then, he bashed individual freedom, framing vaccination as one’s responsibility toward others.

“I think what people have to appreciate, that indeed you do have personal liberties for yourself and you should be in control of that,” Fauci began. “But you are a member of society, and as a member of society, reaping all of the benefits of being a member of society, you have a responsibility to society.”

The pretrial confinement initial review hearing for Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller—the U.S. Marine Corps officer jailed for criticizing senior military officials over the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan—could be held in secret, The Epoch Times has learned.

Members of Congress and Scheller’s family are seeking to attend the hearing, but the military’s position is that such matters should be held behind closed doors, according to a source familiar with the situation. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid backlash from the military, provided The Epoch Times with documentation supporting these claims.

The public affairs office for Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina—where Scheller is confined at the regional brig—didn’t respond to media inquiries by press time. USMC spokesperson Samuel Stephenson also didn’t respond to requests for comment by press time, nor did government counsel Troy Campbell.

Scheller’s attorney, Brian Ferguson, declined to speak publicly about the case.
