Reader’s Links for September 14, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. “San Diego Could Lose Half Their Police Force From Vaccine Mandate, 45 Percent Are a Hard NO and Willing to Be Fired”

A rather remarkable situation in San Diego that we could see play out in the rest of the nation. The police union, The San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA), asked their members about the vaccination mandate.

65 percent of the respondents said they would consider quitting the force if the city were to impose a requirement. However, an alarming 45 percent said they would rather be fired than comply with the mandate.

The SDPOA has 1,971 members. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, half of those officers are not vaccinated. If that half of the entire police department were to be fired for non-compliance with the vaccine mandate, the city of San Diego would be in a really sketchy place. The city has a deadline for compliance on November 2nd.

  3. zero hedge- “Like It’s Loose Change”: Taliban Says Former Afghan VP Left Behind $6 Million Cash & Gold Bars At Residence

The Taliban says it found over $6 million in cash and at least 15 gold bars after it raided the home of a longtime Afghan national politician, Amrullah Saleh.

Saleh had been vice president since February 2020 until the collapse of the Afghan government

[…]There’s long been reports and confirmation out of the Pentagon and US officials who’ve admitted to flying entire crates and bricks of cash into the country over the past couple decades of war.

Often this was with the aim of “paying off” tribal warlords and even local politicians in order to ensure some degree of stability and peace for the US occupation. Often large quantities of cash would simply disappear.

    • Afghan acting foreign minister asks for more foreign aid

Acting Foreign Minister of the interim Afghan government Amir Khan Muttaqi on Tuesday said that Afghanistan wants to have good relations with countries around the world, and called for continuing aid from international organizations to the country.

“We want to have good relations with the world’s countries, but want them to not pressure Afghanistan, because pressure does not work and does not benefit Afghanistan or world countries,” he said at a press conference.

On the issue of international recognition of the Taliban government, Muttaqi said they were in contact with UN representatives and individual countries.

“It is known that the people of Afghanistan have been reeling under the brunt of war for 40 years and that’s why we hope the international community will lend a helping hand to Afghanistan in various domains,” he added.

Foreign aid accounted for 43 percent of the Afghan economy in 2020, according to the World Bank. The country remains among the world’s poorest, with a GDP per capita of just $509 the same year.

Taliban demand US remove its leaders from terrorist blacklist, unfreeze Afghan assets

The Taliban’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi demanded on Tuesday that the US remove the group’s leaders from its terrorism blacklist and unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets.

The US has blacklisted many of the Taliban leaders long ago, including the newly appointed Interior Minister of the group’s government, Sirrajudin Haqqani.

According to the State Department, Haqqani admitted planning the January 2008 attack on Kabul’s Serena Hotel that killed a US citizen and five other people. He was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224 in March 2008.

The US State Department has allocated a reward of $10 million for information on Haqqani.

Muttaqi also demanded the US unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets for to help the Taliban govern the economically-stricken country, urging Washington not “mix humanitarian issues with politics.”

“We provided safe passage for US soldiers to leave Afghanistan, but instead of thanking us, the US froze Afghanistan’s assets,”

The US froze almost $10 billion in Afghan gold, investments and foreign currency reserves after the Taliban seized control of the country on August 15.

The US Treasury said earlier this month it had granted a license authorizing the US government and its partners to continue to facilitate humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. It also gave Western Union, the world’s largest money transfer firm, and other financial institutions a green light to resume processing personal remittances to Afghanistan from migrants overseas.

The Taliban’s FM also urged the international community to provide aid to Afghanistan.

reuters – Afghan acting foreign minister urges international donors to restart aid

Sept 14 (Reuters) – Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister called on Tuesday for international donors to restart aid, as the Taliban government seeks to shore up the finances of a country heavily reliant on external assistance after 40 years of near-continuous war.

Following the insurgent Taliban’s return to power after sweeping away government forces last month, a majority of international donors have frozen aid.

“Afghanistan is a war-hit country and it needs the international community’s assistance in different sectors, especially education, health and development,” Amir Khan Muttaqi told a news conference in the capital Kabul.

“Projects that are incomplete need to be completed in order to avoid waste of resources,” he added, also calling for more assistance from multilateral donors including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank.

After the takeover, the United States froze Afghanistan’s dollar-denominated bank deposits that make up the majority of the central bank’s reserves.

The international community should not politicize their assistance to Afghanistan, Muttaqi said.

“(We) helped the US until evacuation of their last person, but unfortunately the US, instead of thanking us, froze our assets,” Muttaqi said.

“The USA is a great country so it should have great patience, we should help each other.”

  4. Deutsche Pravda – Why South Africans are so reluctant to get vaccinated

The government says it has secured sufficient vaccines to vaccinate the entire adult population.

So supply is no longer a constraint.

Yet, vaccine hesitancy is hindering inoculation in the country worst hit by the pandemic in Africa.
Some are afraid of side effects.

Others are scared of the needle.

Another recurring concern is whether the jab could impact anti-retroviral drugs used to treat HIV, of which South Africa has the world’s highest prevalence.

Others are afraid it could affect the fertility of men and women.

Doctors say vaccine hesitancy in South Africa is threatening the entire vaccination drive.

    • UK – Booster Covid vaccines to be offered to over 50s to smooth ‘bumpy’ winter

Booster vaccines will be offered to people aged 50 and over, those in care homes, and frontline health and social care workers, the Government has announced.

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, revealed the recommendation in a conference on Tuesday.

Experts said the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine should be used as the booster dose for more than 30 million people in the UK, and that it was safe to be given alongside the usual winter flu jab.

All those who are clinically extremely vulnerable and anyone aged 16 to 65 in an at-risk group group for Covid – who were in priority groups one to nine during the initial vaccine rollout – will also be eligible for a jab.

Three vaccines have been approved as safe and effective as boosters – AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna – but experts have decided to opt for Pfizer as a preference after studies showed it is well tolerated and works well as a booster.

    • CNBC – Pfizer CEO says Covid vaccine data for kids UNDER AGE 5 may come in late october

Pfizer expects to release clinical trial data on how well its Covid-19 vaccine works in 6-month to 5-year old children as early as the end of October, CEO Albert Bourla said Tuesday.

Covid vaccine data for kids between ages 5 to 11 will come much sooner, he said, potentially ready to be submitted to the FDA by the end of this month.

“Then, it is up to the FDA to take their time, and then make a decision,” Bourla said.

Pfizer expects to release clinical trial data on how well its Covid-19 vaccine works in 6-month to 5-year old children as early as the end of October, CEO Albert Bourla said Tuesday.

Covid vaccine data for kids between ages 5 to 11 will come much sooner, he said, potentially ready to be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration by the end of this month.

“Then, it is up to the FDA to take their time, and then make a decision,” Bourla said during an interview at Research!America’s 2021 National Health Research Forum.

The CEO’s comments come as many parents say they are anxious to get their children vaccinated, especially as schools reopen and the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread. The strain has led to a surge in hospitalizations across the U.S., including among young kids who are currently ineligible to get the shots.

So far, the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has been cleared by the FDA for people as young as 12, while Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines have been authorized for adults.

On Friday, FDA officials said they were “working around the clock” to support the approvals of Covid vaccines for kids under age 12.

Dr. Peter Marks, the agency’s top vaccine regulator, said last month the agency would move as “swiftly” as possible on approving the shot for kids under 12 once the companies submit data.

“Currently, there are still trials ongoing and so the agency has to wait for the company to submit the data for those trials,” he said on Aug. 23. “We certainly want to make sure that we get it right.”

Pfizer vaccine could be approved for ages 5-11 by Halloween

Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine could be authorized for use in children aged 5 to 11 by Halloween, according to top U.S. health officials. That timeline is based on the belief that Pfizer will have enough data from clinical trials to seek emergency use authorization for that age group from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration toward the end of September.

The FDA could make a decision about whether the shot is safe and effective in young children within three weeks of the EUA submission, according to Reuters.

Moderna will take about three weeks longer than Pfizer to collect and analyze data, with a decision for the Moderna vaccine in children aged 5 to 11 coming in November. Moderna told investors to anticipate data from its children’s study by the end of 2021.
Pfizer has previously announced it would have data on children aged 5-11 ready in September and that the vaccine maker planned to submit for an EUA after that data was ready. On Friday, the FDA said it would work to approve the COVID-19 vaccines for children quickly once the companies submitted their data.

Emergency use authorizations require companies to submit two months of safety data on trial participants, versus six months required for full licensure.

Dr. Peter Marks, the FDA’s vaccine chief, told The Associated Press he is hopeful that vaccinations for 5- to 11-year-olds will be underway by year’s end. Marks said the FDA could analyze Pfizer’s data in a “matter of weeks.”

Results for children as young as 6 months will come at a later date.

“In a best-case scenario, given that timeline they’ve just laid out, you could potentially have a vaccine available to children aged 5 to 11 by Halloween,” former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who serves on Pfizer’s board of directors, said in an interview with “Face the Nation.” “If everything goes well, the Pfizer data package is in order, and FDA ultimately makes a positive determination, I have confidence in Pfizer in terms of the data that they’ve collected. But this is really up to the Food and Drug Administration to make an objective determination.”

Pfizer has been conducting clinical trials of its two-dose vaccine in children 2 years and older, and its approval could be crucial to helping combat the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant in schools. Children represent 25% of new COVID-19 infections, according to CBS News.

In Illinois, there were 3,804 COVID-19 cases in children aged 5-11 for the week ending Sept. 4, up from 3,462 the week prior. The number of COVID-19 cases in the age group has been rising week over week since late June. There have been 128 outbreaks in schools over the last 30 days, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

      • Albert Bourla, doctor of veterinary medicine: how’s his hardwiring?

I was curious about his background. To put it together what I know from my mother’s extended family from Cuba.

Thessaloniki, the cultural capital of Spanish Jewry from the time of the Inquisition.

By the time the Crimean War broke out, the Golden Age of Sephardim was over. Orthodox Christian autonomy would be worse than living in an outpost of the feeble Ottoman Empire. They had skills and capital they could take to Spanish-speaking places like Cuba, Venezuela, even the Philippines.
Those who stayed … well, the Greeks enthusiastically collaborated with the Nazis to eradicate our bloodline.

        96% perished.

Very, VERY few would return to rebuild a life in that exact place.

        Their children are all crazy.
There’s something missing, weird. They mouth the same lines almost verbatim: no hard feelings, choose life, blah-blah, woof-woof…

But what value human life? Bourla-the-veterinarian might have an especially abstract perspective. I’ve seen something like that in certain Israelis.

I’m no shrink, not bound by the Goldwater Rule. Just abstract maundering, that’s all.

    • paul j watson -Elizabeth Warren Demands Amazon Censor Best-Selling Books

      COVID heretics must be disappeared.

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding Amazon censor best-selling books because they contain information that challenges the official narrative on coronavirus.

Warren wrote a letter asserting that Amazon was complicit in spreading “COVID-19 misinformation” because it allows people to buy books authored by people like Dr. Joseph Mercola, who has been targeted by the mainstream media as a purveyor of “dangerous” fake news about COVID and vaccines.

“During the week of August 22, 2021, my staff conducted sample searches on of pandemic-related terms such as ‘COVID-19,’ ‘COVID,’ ‘vaccine,’ ‘COVID 19 vaccine,’ and ‘pandemic,’” Sen. Warren wrote in a letter addressed to Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy. “The top results consistently included highly-ranked and favorably-tagged books based on falsehoods about COVID-19 vaccines and cures.”

Of course, the claim that these are “falsehoods” is a completely arbitrary assertion made by Warren and her staff, with no objective standard of proof required.

Mercola was again singled out for condemnation.

“[Dr. Mercola] has posted over 600 articles on Facebook casting doubt on COVID-19 vaccines and been subject to multiple federal investigations (with one false- advertising investigation leading to a $2.95 million consumer settlement). But Amazon’s algorithms promoted ‘The Truth About COVID-19’ as a best seller and top result in response to common pandemic-related search terms,” Warren wrote.

As Cindy Harper highlights, Warren’s efforts to have Amazon ban books follows a similar effort by Rep. Adam Schiff, who claimed that 10 per cent of Amazon search results related to vaccines returned “misinformation” (a description again solely determined by Schiff and his staff).

At what point did we enter an era where the very thing that drove scientific progress for hundreds of years – challenging the official orthodoxy – is now treated as heresy?

Putting people on lists with terrorists and sex traffickers before deplatforming them from social media sites is not enough.

Erasing information published by actual doctors and scientific experts that dares to question the ever-shifting goalposts of what “the science” says is also insufficient.

Now the digital book burnings must begin.

  5. MOROCCO WORLD NEWS – Eric Zemmour: Mohammed Is Not a French Name, Should Be Banned

The 63-year-old political commentator was recently banned from CNews for his inflammatory rhetoric.

Denver – French far-right essayist and political journalist Eric Zemmour has promised to ban non-French first names like Mohammed, saying that Arab first names and other aspects of Arab culture are making French society less French.

Zemmour has been rumored to be preparing to announce his candidacy for France’s upcoming presidential elections in 2022. His latest book, “La France n’a pas encore dit son dernier mot” (France has not yet said its last word), is said to be a campaign book in which the far-right commentator lays out his vision for reclaiming France’s lost imperial prestige.

Zemmour made his latest anti-Muslim remarks while appearing on Saturday on the television segment “We are Live” to discuss the end of his time as a pundit for CNEWS, a popular French television channel. During the segment, Zemmour continued to discuss a possible presidential run for the 2022 election.

He claimed that many people “are pushing me to be a candidate, as they think that it is I who has the good ideas for France.” Zemmour did not confirm his candidacy, however, saying: “When I want to be a candidate, I will say that I am a candidate. When I decide, I will say it.”

But when asked what policies he would implement if elected, the far-right commentator laid out his unmistakably anti-Islam platform. He said one of the first policies he would implement upon being elected president is to ban the first name “Mohammed,” because “it is not a French name.”

He added his “good ideas” for France include banning Muslim names, and asking Muslims to “limit their religion to faith and practice” at the individual level.

    A lover of controversy

Zemmour, who started his career as a political reporter, became increasingly known for his xenophobic opinions during television appearances. His comments on Islam and ethnic minorities have constantly landed him in legal trouble.

In February 2019, a French court found Zemmour guilty of “inciting racial hatred,” and ordered him to pay thousands of euros in fines.

Since being appointed in 2019 as a political pundit for French television channel CNews, Zemmour has continued to take delight in sparking controversy with his far-right commentary on “Facing the Info,” the segment he co-hosted with journalist Christine Kelly.

With increased rumors around Zemmour’s presidential ambitions, France’s audiovisual regulating body has decided to “limit” the pundit’s air time, arguing that he should not be using his unlimited television appearances to campaign.

The decision led CNEWS to end its contract with Zemmour, and the far-right commentator has since said he “understood that it was the only reasonable solution. When we can not resist, we must break and resist elsewhere.”

  6. Rasuili Zubaidullah: Afghan Refugee Rapes and Kills 13-Yr-Old in Austria; Lives at Taxpayers’ Expense in UK

Zubaidullah managed to get asylum in the UK as an Afghan refugee under a false name after crossing the Channel and was safely staying in a hotel at British taxpayers’ expense.

An Afghan suspected of rape and murder managed to enter the UK under a false name after crossing the Channel, raising concerns over border security. Rasuili Zubaidullah, 22, sparked fears after it was revealed that he cross the channel in a boat carrying a refugees and sought asylum just weeks after raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl in Austria.

Zubaidullah was one of the most wanted in Austria. However, after having managed to get asylum in the UK as an Afghan refugee under a false name, he was safely staying in a hotel at British taxpayers’ expense, till he was identified a few days back.

Zubaidullah was arrested by the National Extradition Unit on July 29 after officers received a tip-off from Austrian police where he is wanted for brutally attacking and raping a 13-year-old girl in Vienna. However, it wasn’t until three weeks that he managed to stay safely in a London hotel as an Afghan refugee under a fake name.

Although the incident happened on July 29, it was reported only on Sunday. Zubaidullah was arrested from an Ibis hotel in Whitechapel, east London and is now facing extradition process. It is understood Zubaidullah provided Border Force officers in Kent with a false name and other fake details when he entered the country on July 18.

However, what is more surprising is no one suspected him, which raises serious questions on the quality of checks being made on refugees coming to the UK after the Taliban took control over Afghanistan. Moreover, the news comes at a time when record numbers of migrants are crossing the Channel – with over 14,000 making the journey since the start of the year.

Zubaidullah was being looked for by Austrian police after the body of a 13-year-old girl, known only by her first name Leonie, was found propped up by a tree in central Vienna on June 26. However, he had fled the country by that time. The girl was reportedly, gagged, drugged and then gang raped before being murdered.

The schoolgirl from the city of Wiener Neustadt, was reported missing by her mother Melanie, 40, and father Hannes, 39, three days before she was found raped and murdered. Austrian police started looking for Zubaidullah after he was traced as part of a group that boasted on social media about having “wild sex” with Leonie.

Investigation revealed that Leonie had agreed to meet Zubaidullah and his 16-year-old friend in a nightlife district along the Danube Canal on June 25, after they got introduced on Instagram. Upon meeting Zubaidullah and his friend, she was taken to an apartment where there were two other men, aged 18 and 23, including a drug dealer.

She was then given ecstasy by the drug dealer. According to police, the girl was then gang raped and suffocated to death before the killers rolled her body in a carpet and dumped it around 100 yards from the apartment. A manhunt for Zubaidullah, after he identified, was launched. Police initially believed that he had slipped to Italy.

However, he didn’t go there and instead safely made it to the UK after faking his name. It is believed, Zubaidullah hopped on a train at Innsbruck before making his way across Europe to northern France, where he paid people smugglers for his passage across the Channel. At least two of the men suspected of being involved were facing deportation prior to the murder.

After Austrian police learnt that, they informed UK police, following which the fugitive was arrested in London. On September 3, Zubaidullah appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via video link from Wandsworth prison in south-west London to face extradition proceedings. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 1 and faces a full extradition hearing in January.

  7. DAILY MAIL – Charging points for electric cars will be preset to turn off for NINE HOURS a day amid fears they will cause blackouts if government hits target for phasing out petrol and diesel

Government says electric car chargers should turn off by default at peak times
Fears over impact of huge numbers of drivers plugging in their cars at same time
Ministers are pushing to phase out the sales of diesel and petrol cars by 2030

Charging points for electric cars will be preset to turn off for nine hours a day amid fears they could cause blackouts with the government pushing the switch from diesel and petrol.

From May, every new charger will automatically not function at ‘peak times’ to ease the pressure on the national grid.

There is also set to be a ‘randomised delay’ of up to 30 minutes if there is high demand from motorists.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps is said to be anxious that huge numbers of drivers will plug in their car when they return home between 5pm and 7pm.

Motoring experts said the measure would be a ‘nudge’ for drivers to consider charging vehicles during off-peak hours.

The government is banning sales of petrol and diesel cars from 2030, to help eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and achieve its net zero emissions target by 2050.

Under regulations lodged with the World Trade Organisation, new chargers in the home and workplace will by default not operate from 8am to 11am and 4pm to 10pm.

Owners will be able to override the preset times, to take account of night workers and people who have different schedules.

Public chargers and rapid chargers, on motorways and A-roads, will be exempt.

The Commons Transport Select Committee called this summer for owners to be incentivised to recharge batteries ‘little but often’ to avoid power shortages.

Electric cars have been forecast to create extra 18GW demand for power in UK at peak times by 2050, according to the National Grid. That is the equivalent of six Hinkley Point nuclear power stations.

However, the actual increase in supply required is likely to be less due to improvements in charging technology, and the 18GW figure is cited as the most ‘extreme’ scenario.

AA president Edmund King, who drives an electric vehicle, told the Sunday Times: ‘Sometimes people need to be nudged to be smart and this nudge will save them money, as power is cheaper off-peak.

‘The reality is that for most EV drivers, with off-street parking, it is more efficient anyway to charge when they sleep. This will help bring cheaper power to electric drivers.’

Last week the government announced laws to ensure electric car chargers are built into all new homes and offices, in a bid to increase the numbers.

Ministers have admitted that only around 500 plug-in points are being installed every month – way below the 700 a day industry bodies say are needed.

Government said last year that it will pump £1.3 billion into scaling-up the rollout of charge points for electric vehicles in homes, streets and motorways across the UK.

Sen. Risch: So are you unaware that this is actually happening?… So this didn’t happen yesterday or on other occasions when the media showed the American people that his sentence was cut off in midsentence?

Tony Blinken went on to say there is no such person. Then he denied that it has ever happened as the senator suggested. Tony Blinken is a liar – just like the rest of them.

  9. Saudi Arabia Considering Israeli-Made Missile Defense Systems

Saudi Arabia has reached out to Jerusalem about the possibility of procuring Israeli-made missile defense systems, at a time when the American systems the Kingdom has for so long relied upon have been removed….

Sources here have confirmed an AP report from the weekend that American THAAD and Patriot batteries have been quietly removed from Prince Sultan Air Base, located outside of Riyadh. Those assets had been moved into the Kingdom following a 2019 strike on Saudi oil production facilities….

Those same sources say that the Saudis have had low-level talks with Israel for several years about such systems, but that the talks began to take on more energy once it became clear America would remove its air defense assets from the Kingdom….

Although a withdrawal of air defense assets from the region had been expected for several months, it was unclear exactly when US assets would head elsewhere.
    It's an announcement of divorce.
Now, Israeli sources say, Saudi Arabia is seriously considering its alternatives. Among them: China, Russia and, in a move that might have seemed impossible a few years ago, Israel.

    Increased Threats

The American withdrawal from Afghanistan already has regional partners on edge, and the movement of further forces from the region will likely do little to calm nerves.

“The withdrawal of the Patriot air defense systems from Saudi Arabia is something that cannot be explained. It’s not only another desertion of a friendly country, but a spit in the face,” an Israeli senior defense source told Breaking Defense….

Underlining the issue: Houthi forces have increased their strikes against Saudi targets in recent weeks, both in Yemen and inside the Kingdom’s borders, with the mix of UAVs and missiles that would potentially be covered by the Iron Dome/Barak duo.

On Aug. 29, the Houthis attacked the Al-Anad air base north of Aden, where Saudi-led coalition forces are stationed. The attack killed more than 30 people and injured more than 60. That was followed by a UAV and missile attack on several Saudi targets, including the eastern city of Dammam not far from Bahrain. The target was a facility of the Aramco Residential Camp.

Then on Sept. 11, an attack was launched on the newly renovated and inaugurated port of Al-Makha, located on the Red Sea coast, with five drones and a ballistic missile. The attack damaged the port’s strategic infrastructure as well as warehouses of international aid agencies….
It’s not only another desertion of a friendly country, but a spit in the face

Removal of the THAAD and the Patriots is DELIBERATE SABOTAGE of U.S. interests.

GRATUITOUS, sending a message more alarming to security-minded observers than our chaotic exit from Afg-ugh.
