Reader’s Links for December 11, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I remember reading dubious claims that China was developing a “Chinese Master Race” by genetically engineering soldiers and making them immune to the AIDS virus.

I also remember being told by “experts” that the China Virus had no links to the Aids Virus.

Then today I hear that Australian vaccine research has been cancelled because the “vaccine” is giving participants false positive Aids tests. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/11/world/australia/australia-covid-vaccine-HIV.html

My ears really pricked up when I heard this today.

  3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxychloroquine

Look at this lying pile of dung. Wikipedia categorically denies that hydroxychloroquine ever helped anyone with COVID-19 and that it was simply Donald Trump’s stupid imagination that made anyone think otherwise. I had no idea that Wikipedia was such a mouthpiece for the radical left. The way it is now if a person wants to educate themselves and find out the facts about something and goes to Wikipedia for the lowdown they can expect to be lied to most maliciously with total disregard for the truth. It seems as if these people have infiltrated absolutely everything. They’ve even got the encyclopedia lying for them…
How can anyone say the elections are fair when the public is being hoodwinked to such a ridiculous degree. The encyclopedia is calling the President of the United States a brainless moron, just like that. How is that not election meddling?

    • It’s just amazing how the “brainless moron” was able to bring about historic peace agreements in the Middle East. Morocco/Israel being the latest!

      • It is just amazing that all the brainless morons wear a mask attack those who don’t and would probably get into a cattle car and go for a train ride.

      • I do believe that Trump accomplished something that has not been possible since 1948. He reversed the infamous, “No, no, and no” from the Arab leaders and began, finally, the process of normalization for the Jewish State. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that would qualify him for the Nobel Peace Prize ahead of anyone since the end of WWII. Of course, people who rely on the mainstream media for their news will simply not be apprised of that little fact…

We are rapidly heading toward becoming Nazi Germany, folks. And there’s no fighting back when the “Party” controls everything from the papers to the cops to the judges to everything else. That’s what’s happening here…

In Italy, the Council of State says YES to hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19

Through order 7097/2020 issued today, the Italian Council of State says yes to the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19, provided it is prescribed by a doctor. In the order, it also confirms the decision of the pharmaceutical agency to exclude the drug from reimbursement.

In addition, in the order, the Council of State accepted, as a precautionary measure, the appeal of a group of general practitioners and suspended the recommendation of the Aifa (Italian Medicine Agency) of 22 July 2020 which prohibited the prescription of hydroxychloroquine outside of the government health agencies authorization as a treatment against Covid-19. (i.e. for use not included in the drug’s instructions).

      The order states:

“The continuing uncertainty about the therapeutic efficacy of hydroxychloroquine, declared by Aifa to justify its continued evaluation, evaluation in randomized clinical trials – is not a sufficient legal reason to justify the unreasonable suspension of its use on the Italian territory by treating physicians.”

The Council of State has, of course, heard the message of treating doctors and specialists by declaring:

‘The choice of whether or not to use the drug, in a situation of doubt and opposition in the scientific community, on the basis of non-unequivocal clinical data, on its effectiveness at the initial stage of the disease only, must therefore be handed over to the decision-making autonomy and responsibility of the individual physician in science and conscience and with the obvious informed consent of each patient, without prejudice to the constant and attentive supervision of the doctor who prescribe it.’

“Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) on Friday ordered several global social media platforms to pay a fine of 30 million Turkish liras ($3.8 million) each for failing to appoint local representatives, as mandated by recent legislation, the national Anadolu Agency reported.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Periscope, Linkedin, Dailymotion, TikTok and other platforms with over one million daily users in Turkey had until November 2 to hire local representatives after the new media law came into force on October 1.

It is already the second series of penalties after the first 30-day period, when the Turkish authorities imposed a fine of 10 million Turkish liras (around $1.2 million) on the social media platforms over the same violation.

In case of non-compliance, subsequent sanctions will include an advertising ban from Turkish companies and a gradual reduction of the internet bandwidth of the platforms.

The fine has not been issued against the Russian social network Vkontakte, which has appointed a representative in line with the new law.”

Supreme Court Puts Agents on Financial Hook for Religious Freedom Violations

    Kevin Daley – DECEMBER 10, 2020 4:10 PM

The Supreme Court said Thursday that federal agents can be forced to pay out of their own pocket for religious liberty violations.

The decision allows three Muslim men to seek monetary damages from FBI agents who allegedly placed them on the no-fly list as retaliation for turning down requests to become informants. Justice Clarence Thomas delivered the opinion for a unanimous Court.

“This is a good decision that makes it easier to hold the government accountable when it violates Americans’ religious liberties,” said Lori Windham of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which filed a brief supporting the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs in Thursday’s case, Muhammad Tanvir, Jameel Algibhah, and Naveed Shinwari, are Muslim citizens or green card holders who say FBI special agents attempted to recruit them as informants in the New York City area and abroad. For example, Algibhah alleges that agents asked him to attend particular mosques, behave like an extremist, and engage on online Islamic forums.

All three men refused, citing their Muslim faith. They said informing amounts to bearing false witness, worshiping under false pretenses, and betraying the trust of fellow Muslims. A short time later, the agents added them to the no-fly list.

“The agents relied upon what they assumed would be the irresistible coercion of the no fly list—causing each [plaintiff] to be placed on the list and then either threatening to keep him on the list for refusing to accede to the FBI’s demands, or offering the incentive of being removed from the list in exchange for services as an FBI informant,” the plaintiffs’ lawyers wrote in a brief to the justices.

In turn, the plaintiffs filed a lawsuit under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Though their names have since been removed from the list, they are still seeking monetary compensation directly from the agents responsible. The men want to recoup the cost of wasted plane tickets or job opportunities lost due to their inability to travel. Tanvir couldn’t obtain a full refund from his airline after he had to cancel a trip to visit his ailing mother in Pakistan.

The Trump administration opposed the plaintiffs before the justices. In court papers, the Justice Department said the plaintiffs can only sue the agents in their official capacities, meaning the government would cover the cost of any financial judgment against them. RFRA says plaintiffs can seek damages “against a government,” not individuals, the DOJ argued. They also warned that putting agents on the hook for their mistakes or abuses would badly affect split-second national security decisions.

In his opinion for the Court, Thomas said RFRA’s text creates an expansive definition of “government” that covers individual officials.

“A ‘government,’ under RFRA, extends beyond the term’s plain meaning to include officials,” Thomas wrote. “And the term ‘official’ does not refer solely to an office, but rather to the actual person ‘who is invested with an office.'”

The decision also noted that qualified immunity is available as a defense against such lawsuits, which could blunt the practical impact of Thursday’s decision.

“Migrants who are rescued during an attempted crossing of the English Channel will be banned from making a UK asylum claim while at sea under new laws being brought forward by the Home Office.

A post-Brexit shake-up of asylum rules could ultimately result in intercepted migrant boats being immediately taken back to France.

The UK has long called on Paris to do more to stop the crossings with the two sides disagreeing on whether the boats can be intercepted.

Immigration Minister Chris Philp told The Telegraph: ‘We are determined to fix the broken asylum system to make it firm on those who come here through illegally facilitated routes and fair on those who play by the rules.

‘There is no reason to leave a safe country like France to make a dangerous crossing.

‘These measures send a clear message and are just one of the steps the Government is taking to tackle the unacceptable rise in small boat crossings.

‘This includes working with our French partners to stop migrants leaving a safe country and making these dangerous journeys.’

The new laws, expected to be brought forward in the New Year, will reportedly replace the EU’s current Dublin Regulations which state migrants should claim asylum in the first European country they entered…”

  13. Ethiopia returns refugees who fled Tigray fighting, to alarm (abcnews, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/aid-group-staffer-killed-ethiopias-tigray-conflict-74666983

“In a development the United Nations calls “disturbing,” Ethiopia on Friday said it is returning thousands of refugees who ran from camps in its Tigray region as war swept through, putting them on buses back to the border area with Eritrea, the country the refugees originally fled.

The news came as the United States said it believes Eritrean troops are active in Ethiopia, which it called a “grave development.”

“We are aware of credible reports of Eritrean military involvement in Tigray,” a State Department spokesperson said in an email. “We urge that any such troops be withdrawn immediately.”

Ethiopia’s government said its completed military offensive against the now-fugitive Tigray regional government “was not a direct threat” to the 96,000 “misinformed” Eritrean refugees — even as international aid groups said four of their staffers had been killed, at least one in a refugee camp there.

The United Nations refugee chief recently warned that the reported targeting of Eritrean refugees, if confirmed, “would be major violations of international norms.” Ethiopia has denied the involvement of Eritrean troops, but Tigray residents who fled into Sudan have asserted that gunfire came from the direction of Eritrea as the conflict began.

Eritrea, described by rights groups as one of the world’s most repressive countries, has remained almost silent on the Tigray conflict and is a bitter enemy of the fugitive Tigray government.

“We received alarming messages from Eritreans living abroad and when we looked into them, ascertained that several hundred refugees had been put on buses this morning to be returned to the Tigray region,” the U.N. refugee agency said Friday. “We had not been informed in advance by the government.”

Given the trauma the refugees say they witnessed in Tigray, they should be protected outside the region, the agency said. It also noted that the refugee camps have had no access to services and supplies for more than a month.

Aid groups say thousands of the Eritrean refugees have fled to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, and the Tigray capital, Mekele. Ethiopia’s government said their “unregulated movement” makes it difficult to ensure their security and provide them with aid.

Their camps are now stable and under Ethiopia’s “full control,” the statement said, adding that “transportation of food to the camps is under way.”

But communications and transport links to Tigray remain so challenging that the International Rescue Committee said it was still trying to confirm the details around the killing of an employee in the Hitsats refugee camp in Shire town, the base of humanitarian operations for the refugee camps.

Separately, the Danish Refugee Council said three staffers who worked as guards at a project site were killed last month. It was not clear where they were killed, but the group also supports the Eritrean refugees.

“Sadly, due to the lack of communications and ongoing insecurity in the region, it has not yet been possible to reach their families,” it said.

“Now, more than ever, it is a matter of urgency to cease all hostilities,” the European Union’s commissioner for crisis management, Janez Lenarcic, said while condemning the killings.

Frustration remains among humanitarian organizations as Tigray remains largely sealed off from the outside world five weeks after fighting erupted between Ethiopia’s government and the Tigray one following a months-long power struggle.

Ethiopia’s government has made clear it intends to manage the process of delivering aid, and it has rejected “interference” as fighting is reported to continue. On Friday, Ethiopia it said it had begun delivering aid to areas in Tigray under its control, including Shire and the Tigray capital, a city of a half-million people.

“Suggestions that humanitarian assistance is impeded due to active military combat in several cities and surrounding areas within the Tigray region is untrue and undermines the critical work undertaken by the National Defense Forces to stabilize the region,” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office said, adding that sporadic gunfire should “not be misconstrued as active conflict.”

The Ethiopian and Tigray governments each regard the other as illegitimate, the result of months of growing friction since Abiy took office in 2018 and sidelined the once-dominant Tigray People’s Liberation Front. Thousands of people are thought to have been killed in the fighting, which began Nov. 4 and has threatened to destabilize the Horn of Africa.

Some 6 million people live in Tigray, and about 1 million are now thought to be displaced. The impact on civilians has been “appalling,” the U.N. human rights chief said this week.

Supply-laden trucks have waited for weeks at Tigray’s border. Ethiopia’s government says it is responsible for ensuring the security of humanitarian efforts — though the conflict and related ethnic tensions have left many ethnic Tigrayans wary of government forces.

The U.N. has stressed the need for neutral, unfettered access. “Food rations for displaced people in Tigray have run out,” the U.N. humanitarian office tweeted.

This week, Ethiopia’s government said its forces shot at and briefly detained U.N. staffers conducting their first security assessment in Tigray, a crucial step in delivering aid. Ethiopia said they had broken through checkpoints in trying to go where they were not allowed.

Meanwhile, nearly 50,000 Ethiopians have fled to Sudan as refugees and now shelter in a remote region with few resources.

“The recent groups coming from areas deeper inside Tigray are arriving weak and exhausted, some reporting they spent two weeks on the run inside Ethiopia as they made their way to the border,” U.N. refugee spokesman Babar Baloch told reporters. “They have told us harrowing accounts of being stopped by armed groups and robbed of their possessions. Many have spent time hiding in fields and bushes to avoid being spotted.”

Without access in Ethiopia, he said, “we are unable to verify these disturbing reports.””

  14. EU plans to hit Turkey with more sanctions over Med drilling (abcnews, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/eu-leaders-weigh-sanctions-turkeys-med-drilling-work-74646419

“European Union leaders early Friday gave the green light for the expansion of sanctions against Turkey over its exploration of gas reserves in Mediterranean waters claimed by EU members Greece and Cyprus.

“Regrettably, Turkey has engaged in unilateral actions and provocations and escalated its rhetoric against the EU, EU member states and European leaders,” they said in a statement from their summit in Brussels.

At their last summit in October, the leaders offered “a positive political EU-Turkey agenda” to Ankara, including trade and customs benefits and the prospect of more funds to help Turkey manage Syrian refugees on its territory if it halts its “illegal activities” in the eastern Mediterranean.

The leaders said that offer remains on the table if Turkey is prepared to enter into a “genuine partnership” and begin a real dialogue with the EU, and if Ankara shows a willingness to resolve differences through dialogue and in accordance with international law.

But given the lack of a response so far, they invited the 27-nation bloc’s ministers “to adopt additional listings” for sanctions “concerning restrictive measures in view of Turkey’s unauthorized drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

The leaders told EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell to draw up a report on the state of EU-Turkey political, economic and trade relations and to suggest how to proceed, including on widening sanctions, and submit it to the leaders by the time they hold their summit in March next year.

Pressure had been mounting for the EU to act, given its previous threats and Turkey’s refusal to respond.

“The stakes are very precise, very clear: the credibility of the European Union,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said ahead of the meeting. He recalled that the leaders said in October that there would be consequences if Turkey “continued its delinquent behavior.”

“So now, it will be seen whether, as Europe, we are really credible in what we ourselves have agreed to,” Mitsotakis said.

The 27 EU countries are split over how best to handle Turkey. France and Cyprus have pushed for tougher measures like economic sanctions, but other countries are concerned about further undermining the country’s already ravaged economy and destabilizing the region…”

Turkey rejects EU decision to widen sanctions (abcnews, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-rejects-eu-decision-widen-sanctions-74668473

“Turkey on Friday called on the European Union to act as an ‘honest mediator’ in its dispute with EU members Greece and Cyprus over the exploration of gas reserves in the Mediterranean, after European leaders approved expanding sanctions against Ankara.

The leaders said early Friday that Turkey — which is a candidate to join although its membership talks are blocked — has “engaged in unilateral actions and provocations and escalated its rhetoric against the EU.” This was despite the fact that they had offered trade and other incentives to Turkey to halt its activities during their last summit in October, they said.

The leaders tasked EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell with drawing up a report on the state of EU-Turkey political, economic and trade relations and to suggest how to proceed, including on widening sanctions. Borrrell was asked to submit the report to the leaders by the time they hold a summit in March.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry slammed the EU decision, saying Ankara rejects the 27-member group’s “biased and unlawful attitude.”

A ministry statement said the decision to expand sanctions against Turkey was approved out of solidarity with Greece and Cyprus. The two countries’ alleged misuse of the solidarity and veto rights had thrust EU-Turkey ties into a “vicious circle,” it said.

“The situation is harming the joint interests of Turkey and the EU as well as our region’s peace, security and stability,” the ministry said. “The EU should take up the role of an honest mediator, it must act in a principled, strategic and sensible manner.”

Tensions between NATO allies Turkey and Greece escalated over the summer with a military build-up after Turkey sent its seismic survey vessel Oruc Reis, escorted by navy frigates, into disputed waters. The move prompted Greece to also send its warships, and both countries conducted military exercises to assert their claims…”

  16. Europe human rights envoy urges Bosnia to act on migrants (abcnews, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/europe-human-rights-envoy-urges-bosnia-act-migrants-74669080

“A top European human rights envoy on Friday joined the European Union in calling for urgent action to improve the conditions for thousands of migrants and refugees who are stuck in Bosnia at the start of a tough Balkan winter.

The Council of Europe’s human rights commissioner, Dunja Mijatovic, in a letter to Bosnian officials warned of a looming humanitarian crisis in the northwest of the country.

Bosnia has faced criticism for years for its handling of the influx of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty in their countries. The politically unstable and impoverished Balkan nation is still recovering from a devastating conflict in the 1990s, and has failed to find a coherent response to the crisis.

Last year, Mijatovic and other international officials pressured Bosnia into closing down a tent camp that was set up on a former landfill and lacked basic facilities, drawing international outrage.

A year later, however, about 3,000 people still are believed to be sleeping rough in makeshift tent camps or abandoned houses with no facilities. The European Union mission in Bosnia has warned this week that the country must act urgently to save lives.

Mijatovic said that the situation can be improved by better coordination and organization despite additional burdens inflicted on the country by the coronavirus pandemic. She cited reports of “seriously substandard” living conditions in the Lipa camp in the northwestern town of Bihac, including lack of electricity and running water and reports of overcrowding.

“The authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina must ensure as a matter of urgency that basic needs such as adequate accommodation and access to health care, food, water and clothing are met,” she said in a letter to Bosnia’s head of government, Zoran Tegeltija, and security minister, Selmo Cikotic.

Divided into two feuding entities, Bosnia has lacked a unified policy regarding the migrants. The Serb-run part of the country has refused to accept any migrants, and the overburdened northwestern region has complained it has been left on its own despite help from international organizations.

Migrants come to Bosnia with the aim of reaching neighboring EU nation Croatia before moving on toward Western Europe from there. To cross to Croatia from Bosnia, migrants often use hidden mountain routes in the northwest of the country with entire families walking for miles and sleeping rough along the way.

The season’s first snow earlier this month has triggered alarm about the upcoming winter as migrants in make-shift camps appealed for help in freezing temperatures. Many have also alleged pushbacks and violence at the hands of Croatia’s police.

Mijatovic also called for improving procedures for asylum-seekers, an end to anti-migrant rhetoric and smear campaigns against activists helping them and more comprehensive care to be provided for nearly 500 unaccompanied migrant children in Bosnia, including access to education.”

  18. France: Five Chechens Arrested in Connection with Schoolteacher Beheading (breitbart, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/12/11/france-five-chechens-arrested-in-connection-with-schoolteacher-beheading/

“French investigators have taken five Chechen-background men into custody as the five are believed to have been in contact with teacher Samuel Paty’s killer Abdoullakh Anzorov.

The five males, aged 18 to 21, come from the Seine-Maritime and Haute-Loire departments and all are said to have been in contact with the Chechen terrorist who beheaded Paty in October after he showed images of the Islamic prophet during a class on freedom of expression.

Investigators say they are looking into whether or not any of the youths had in-person contact with Anzorov and note that all of the men were part of the “jihadist sphere” along with the terrorist, who was shot dead by police a short time after murdering the 47-year-old teacher, Le Parisien reports.

Following the beheading of Paty, it was revealed that Anzorov had been in contact with at least one actual jihadist in Syria prior to the attack as well, communicating with him through the social media app Instagram.

Investigators say that the jihadist was likely located in the Idlib province of Syria, a known stronghold for jihadists with links to terrorist organisations such as al-Qaeda.

The two had conversations about jihad and Islamic theology for several days in September and Anzorov is said to have sent a direct message to the jihadist immediately after the killing of Paty, sending him a picture of the teacher’s decapitated head.

A father of one of the students at the school, Brahim Chnina, organised a social media campaign against Paty and was also said to have been in contact with Anzorov through the messaging app WhatsApp. Chnina was arrested following the attack.

Last weekend, Anzorov was buried in his native Chechnya in the village of Shalazhi, where he was celebrated by locals.”

Dutch Nab a Couple of Old-School Russian Spies, Providing Evidence that China’s Xi Has Surpassed Putin’s Spy Game
BY BRYAN PRESTON DEC 10, 2020 12:57 PM ET

Alexei Druzhinin, Sputnik, Kremlin Pool Photo via AP
This story reads like a time capsule from the Cold War.

The General Intelligence and Security Service said the agents worked at the Russian embassy and had diplomatic accreditation.

“Both intelligence officers have been declared persona non grata by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the Dutch agency said. “Consequently they are no longer allowed to work as diplomats in the Netherlands, and they will have to leave the country forthwith.”

The Dutch agency known as the AIVD said that the officers both worked for Russia’s civil intelligence agency known as SVR. One of them built a network of sources who work or used to work in the high-tech sector in the Netherlands, the AIVD said, the second agent “played a supporting role.”

Did they use hollowed-out rocks and holes in tree stumps to drop off their microfilm? This sounds like old-school espionage, and it is. It’s probably not the most sophisticated spycraft the Russians have at their disposal, but the fact that they even still engage in such actions suggests Putin, for all his KGB wiles, may have lost some edge on his fastball.

Meanwhile, the Chinese have gotten much smarter in their industrial and political espionage.

Earlier this week, Rep. Eric Swalwell was exposed for his relationship with an accused Chinese spy whose activities were so widespread and disturbing that the FBI got involved and she fled the country. As Stacey Lennox pointed out, we have no idea what compromising and even incriminating photos and documents she may have spirited away when she headed back to Beijing.

Has a single Democrat risen up to denounce Swalwell, or even question his role on the House Intelligence Committee? The man got thoroughly infiltrated. The spy, Christine Fang, reportedly helped him fundraise and even inserted an intern on his staff. No word yet on whether Swalwell inserted his staff into the spy, which did happen with at least a pair of mayors she was cultivating for higher office. Swalwell is mum on that point, which is highly suggestive.

Spoiler: No, no Democrat has said boo about Swalwell and the spy.

The media likewise don’t seem to care. The online conservative media, NewsmaxTV, and Fox News have covered it. Fox called out everyone else for their decisions thus far to keep silent about the spy who infiltrated Eric Swalwell.

This is not a game. Swalwell ran for president of the United States. He is not only implicated, he actually implicated the entire Democrat House leadership, under the apparent impression that “because Nancy knew” this somehow gives him cover. What that does is require answers from Swalwell and from the speaker of the House, who is only a few heartbeats away from the presidency, and her whole leadership team. What did they know about Swalwell’s relationship with the spy, and when did they know it? Did they know (or care) about the spy when they allowed Swalwell onto the House Intelligence Committee, which has access to some of our nation’s most sensitive programs and information?

What does Joe Biden think about all this? The media will get around to asking him about it precisely never.

It’s also important in assessing the last four years of Swalwell’s activities against the president of the United States. Swalwell spent four years saying idiotic things like this:

Swalwell declared on MSNBC in January 2019: “Stated plainly, the President’s son met with a Russian spy. We now have the best evidence of that in our minority report the Democrats put out that Ms. Veselnitskaya was going all over the world and bumping into Dana Rohrabacher, which is a sign of a spy, someone who tries to create a coincidence encounter, and now we know that she was working at the behest of the Russian government.”

But even supposing any of that is true (the Mueller report found no collusion whatsoever), Swalwell had already had a relationship with a Chinese spy when he smeared the Trumps. The FBI had already intervened with regard to Swalwell’s favorite spy.

It wasn’t a cursory relationship. Any politician who allows someone to fundraise for them, and also accepts a staff intern suggested by that same person, has taken the relationship to a fairly exclusive level. That’s not quite to the inner circle but it’s not too many layers removed from it. There would presumably be some texts, emails, phone calls, lunches, and after-hours interactions between the two — even if things never progressed to dancing in the dark.

But the Democrats and the media don’t care.

What’s all this got to do with the Russian spies booted from the Netherlands? It points out how China operates on a far more sophisticated level than the Russians now and are a much greater threat. From the offices and bedrooms of politicians to university research campuses, even to NASA, China’s “grains of sand” approach to espionage is a full-spectrum run at the sovereignty of the United States. While Russia bumbles around like the old Spy vs. Spy cartoon, China has thousands of spies on its payroll all over the United States and is penetrating congressional staff. China has also been paying many American media outlets millions of dollars to print its propaganda. Is that buying the media’s silence?

Meanwhile, the Democrats and the media collude to make Russia — but never China — out to be a grave threat. Russia would certainly like to be. But we have states with larger and more advanced economies than Russia’s whole national economy. Elon Musk could probably buy Russia and have enough left to buy up several of its neighbors like Monopoly squares. Moving to Texas and getting to Mars are simply better investments. China has ambitions to overtake and replace the United States and it has the economic might and military power to at least make a go of it. Rather than mess around with a couple of embassy spies, it appears the Chinese Communist Party just went ahead and bought the U.S. media and one of its two political parties.

But sure, Russia is the greater threat.

The media’s and the Democrats’ aggressive silence on Swalwell suggests not.

  20. Germany to Resume Expulsion of Syrians Posing Security Risks From 2021, Official Says (sputniknews, Dec 11, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202012111081430073-germany-to-resume-expulsion-of-syrians-posing-security-risks-from-2021-official-says/

“Germany will lift a ban on the expulsion of Syrian migrants who pose a threat to the national security or have committed crimes to their homeland starting 2021, Joachim Herrmann, the interior minister of the southern German federal state of Bavaria, said on Friday.

“It is obvious that the suspension of expulsion provided for by 31 December ends, this means that the usual regime comes into force again, that each individual case will be considered separately, namely, whether it is possible, whether it is justified, with the observance of human rights”, Herrmann said following a conference of German interior ministers.

Though the situation in the Middle Eastern country remained tense, Syrian refugees from neighbouring nations are already returning to their homeland, the minister added.

Since 2012, Berlin has not deported Syrian migrants, who committed serious crimes or are considered by the competent authorities to pose a threat to public order, to the war-torn country. About 90 Syrians living in Germany are currently classified by law enforcement agencies as posing a security threat…”

  21. Judge removes St. Louis prosecutor from McCloskey case

Big win for the gun-toting husband and wife

A judge on Thursday dismissed the St. Louis prosecutor from the case against Mark McCloskey. A judge determined that improper fundraising emails by Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s campaign infringed on the McCloskeys’ right to receive a fair trial.

POLL: Would you take the COVID-19 vaccine?

Circuit Judge Thomas Clark II said that fundraising emails from Gardner’s re-election campaign to constituents “raise the appearance of impropriety and jeopardize the defendant’s right to a fair trial.”

“Like a needle pulling thread, she links the defendant and his conduct to her critics,” Clark wrote in the 22-page ruling. “These emails are tailored to use the June 28 incident to solicit money by positioning her against defendant and her more vocal critics.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has files from the laptop computer belonging to Seth Rich, a Democratic National Committee (DNC) employee who was killed in 2016, according to a new email.

The bureau also has tens of thousands of documents mentioning Rich.

The FBI “has completed the initial search identifying approximately 50 cross-reference serials, with attachments totaling over 20,000 pages, in which Seth Rich is mentioned,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Parker wrote in the message to attorney Ty Clevenger, who is representing a plaintiff in Huddleston v. Federal Bureau of Investigation, a case dealing with a Freedom of Information Act request to the bureau.

“FBI has also located leads that indicate additional potential records that require further searching,” Parker added.

The Epoch Times confirmed the email is legitimate.

    • Island Video Clip Promotes U.S. Conspiracy Theory

A video clip of Chinese participants at a personal-growth retreat on Salt Spring more than two years ago has been used to support a claim by a U.S. radio show host that Canada is permitting Chinese troops to amass and plan an invasion of the U.S.

An Oct. 7 broadcast piece by Hal Turner of New Jersey then posted online states: “Our neighbor and ally, Canada, under the completely fraudulent guise of protecting Chinese investments, has betrayed the United States and is permitting China to mass invasion troops on Canada’s west coast, for use in attacking and conquering the United States.

“Americans are URGED to arm themselves and prepare. Invading foreign army persons are to be shown NO QUARTER and NO MERCY.”

The online piece includes a map of the Pacific Northwest and southern B.C. with an arrow pointing to Salt Spring Island and noting its proximity to the U.S.

The same Turner piece claims that People’s Liberation Army troops “have been flowing in British Columbia all year” and that “Canadians cannot go into Stanley Park because it is taken over by China’s People’s Liberation Army!”

The video footage was taken by longtime islander Banana Joe Clemente on March 21, 2018 and is posted to his personal YouTube channel.

Clemente last week recounted how his neighbour Kathy Weisner phoned him up on March 17, 2018 to tell him she saw what appeared to be members of the Chinese military marching past her house that day. He said he asked her if she was crazy, and promised to keep his eyes open to see if he saw the same thing.

A few days, later, he said, “Sure enough, I just get past Uncle Ken’s farm stand by Epron Road and they are on the right-hand-side of [North End Road]. There are 50 or 60 of them marching in camouflage clothes and there’s this guy in front who’s the leader. And I think ‘This is weird, [Kathy] is not nuts,’ so I got 35 seconds of footage and threw it on the YouTube channel. It’s just YouTube entertainment to me and I forgot about it.”

As reported in the March 21, 2018 Driftwood, Mineral Springs Resort general manager Woody Scott said the highly visible group of mostly women from Shanghai was staying at the resort and wearing team uniforms as part of corporate team-building and personal development exercises. An organization called Create Abundance, also known as Golden Touch, was later identified as the resort owner hosting that and other retreats.

Clemente’s video was used in a story aired by CTV this summer that explored the Golden Touch/Create Abundance organization after a Chinese citizen named Bo Fan, who worked for the company, was murdered in Surrey, B.C.

Following that broadcast, for which Clemente was interviewed, he said, “[TheYouTube video] went from 600-and-something views to 150,000 views. And it keeps getting hits.”

Clemente also pointed out that none of the people in the video are carrying guns.

“It’s no different than me dressing up in military costume and marching down the side of the road. It’s just dress-up.”

Attesting to the reach of Turner’s site is the fact that Salt Spring Islander Susan Gordon has received emails from four different U.S. friends asking her if the island was harbouring Chinese troops.

“I find the situation alarming due to the fact that in recent months I’ve noticed a distinct change of tone in the social media posts of some of my friends and even a Canadian relative,” said Gordon. “Some of them never posted anything about politics, but suddenly they are relaying information through online platforms that is seemingly designed to provoke strong emotions in the direction of hatred towards another, usually a public figure or someone whose views do not agree with their own.”

One of Gordon’s friends said he heard about the Chinese military story after talking with a stranger at a convenience store near his home in Arizona.

“Along with that story, he shared another one from the same podcast, The Hal Turner show, claiming that Canada has turned ‘tyrannical’ in its approach to the pandemic.”

Turner’s website states that he “is so far to the right he makes Rush Limbaugh look like a liberal and Sean Hannity seem like a girly-man! Michael Savage and Mark Levin don’t even come close.”

It also states that on his radio show, “You’ll hear Hal and his callers telling it like it is with a ‘brash, in-your-face style,’ making the sacred cows of political-correctness and government tyrants run for cover!”

Turner earned notoriety after being sentenced to 33 months in prison in 2010 for a conviction on charges of threatening three federal judges.

The Department of National Defence’s media relations department confirmed for the Driftwood on Friday that it was aware of the video and that “the claim of Chinese troops amassing in British Columbia is not true.”

  24. Texas Tells SCOTUS That Defendant States Didn’t Address ‘Grave’ Election Issues

The state of Texas argued in a filing to the Supreme Court on Friday that the four states it is suing didn’t address “grave issues,” instead “choosing to hide behind other court venues and decisions.”

Texas sued Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin in the nation’s top court this week, alleging that the states unconstitutionally changed election laws, treated voters unequally, and triggered significant voting irregularities by relaxing ballot-integrity measures.

The states “violated statutes enacted by their duly elected legislatures, thereby violating the Constitution,” the lawsuit alleges.

Officials from the defendant states filed briefs Thursday urging the Supreme Court to reject the suit.

The request “to exercise its original jurisdiction and then anoint Texas’s preferred candidate for President is legally indefensible and is an [affront] to principles of constitutional democracy,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro wrote.

Republican Arizona state representatives called on Monday for decertification of the state’s election results in order to maintain public confidence in the integrity of the election.

“I believe that America is on a precipice” and that the “2020 election has been stolen,” Arizona State Rep. Anthony Kern (R-LD20) said at an event on Monday.

“I definitely support the president; it’s not just about one man. This is about the integrity of our electoral process, not just in Arizona, but in the United States of America, and if we lose this today, we will lose it forever,” Pam Kirby, the 1st vice-chair of the Arizona GOP said.

About two dozen Arizona Republican legislators, legislators-elect, and members of the Republican party called on the state’s leaders to take action on claims of election fraud.

After a few days, 10 million had downloaded and installed the app, and after a month, around 40% of smartphone users had put a monitoring device on their phones that would trace their social interactions and could tell them to isolate at any moment.

In October, Governor Cuomo launched a New York contact tracing app based on technology from Google and Apple, and some assistance from Bloomberg’s organization.

“I guess you can use a snappy slogan, like ‘defund the police.’ But, you know, you lost a big audience the minute you say it,” Barack Obama complained.

Obama was pretending that there had never been a serious push to get rid of the police, and after spending eight years mainstreaming black nationalism and the pro-crime politics of police defunding was trying to pretend it was just an edgy slogan calling for “criminal justice reform”.

Gascon outlined how he would upend the rule of law and downplay the protection of law-abiding Los Angeles residents in order to fulfill his mission of “justice” for criminals. US officials believe China’s Ministry of State Security, its main civilian spy agency, sent her here to collect intelligence and gain influence with up-and-coming politicians.

Since Democrats dominate Bay Area politics, she focused on officials such as Swalwell, starting when he was a Dublin city councilman and continuing after he won election to Congress in 2012. She turned out to have a good eye for talent: The congressman became a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in 2015, getting the lead role in the subcommittee on CIA oversight.

  30. the hill – Biden will have White House disinfected after Trump leaves

With President-elect Joe Biden set to be sworn into office in 41 days, precautions are being taken to prevent any infections among new White House staff.

Dozens of cases have been tied to the White House or people who spent time near President Trump over the past several months.

The General Services Administration will deploy a team to “thoroughly clean and disinfect” every part of the White House before Biden settles into the Oval Office, Politico reports.

A private contractor will also provide “disinfectant misting services” to remove any lingering droplets.

The White House will be thoroughly disinfected following President Trump’s exit in January and before the incoming Biden administration moves in to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Trump administration has seen its fair share of COVID-19 infections as it has continued to hold events amid a global pandemic that often disregard its own public health guidance on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Dozens of cases have been tied to the White House or people who spent time near President Trump over the past several months, including members of Trump’s family, campaign, administration and staff. The president himself announced in October he and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19, and he was treated at Walter Reed Medical Center.

The virus that causes COVID-19 mostly spreads through respiratory droplets or small particles produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks or breathes. Droplets can also land on surfaces and objects and be transferred by touch, although it’s not the primary way the virus spreads, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The virus can survive on surfaces for hours and possibly days.

With President-elect Joe Biden set to be sworn into office in 41 days, precautions are being taken to prevent any infections among the new White House staff.

The General Services Administration will deploy a team that will “thoroughly clean and disinfect” every part of the White House touched by human hands, including furniture, doorknobs, handrails and light switches, before Biden settles into the Oval Office, Politico reports.

A private contractor will also provide “disinfectant misting services” to remove any lingering droplets.

The Biden team also plans to have a skeleton staff working onsite with the majority of staff working remotely from home.

Biden has made an effort to strictly adhere to public health guidelines outlined by the CDC over the course of the campaign and following his victory in the presidential election. He has consistently stressed the importance of social distancing and mask-wearing to the public as the outbreak in the U.S. continues to rage on.
