Reader’s Links for November 14, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Las Vegas Columnist Ran A Test… And County Officials Accepted Fake Signatures On 8 Different Ballots

For months, election officials have told Nevadans not to worry about ballots piling up in apartment trash cans or sent to wrong addresses.

“Discarded mail ballots cannot just be picked up and voted by anyone,” a fact sheet from the secretary of state’s office says.

“All mail ballots must be signed on the ballot return envelope. This signature is used to authenticate the voter and confirm that it was actually the voter and not another person who returned the mail ballot.”

I wanted to test that claim by simulating what might happen if someone returned ballots that didn’t belong to him or her. Plenty of people had this opportunity. Billy Geurin, a 10-year Las Vegas resident, found five loose ballots in his apartment mailroom. A reader emailed me a picture of a pile of mail on the side of the road, which included loose ballots. There are numerous pictures of similar examples on social media.

Nine people participated in this test. I wrote their names in cursive using my normal handwriting. They then copied my version of their name onto their ballot envelope. This two-step process was necessary to ensure no laws were broken.

Arizona voting machines were not officially certified
According to the 2019 Arizona Revised Statutes, when the voting machines are tested prior to the election, ‘the test shall be observed by at least two election inspectors, who shall not be of the same political party’.

The Certificate of Accuracy pertaining to the 2020 General Election Combined Voting Equipment Test shows that only the Democratic Party was represented at the test. Neither the Republican GOP Chair Rae Chornenky, nor a Libertarian Party representative was present at the test, as required by statute.

    By Bobby Kushner / November 11, 2020

Bobby Kushner stands trial on November 23 accused of using excessive force in March 2019 after four white-liberal agitators accosted and attacked him based on their prejudices against his independent views, ideology and place as a coloured. That place being to promote, without question, their promiscuous and irresponsible lifestyle and social programs, which do little for the colours and vulnerable populations except to employ white liberals

Israel Assassinated Top Al-Qaida Operative in Tehran in August, Report Says
Two Israeli agents riding a motorcycle shot senior Al-Qaida member Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah at the behest of the United States, intelligence officials tell the New York Times ? Iran denies the report
    https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/israel-assassinated-senior-al-qaida-figure-in-tehran-three-months-ago-report-1.9308284
Al-Qaida’s second-in-command, accused of helping to mastermind the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa, was killed in Iran in August by Israeli operatives acting at the behest of the United States, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing intelligence officials.
Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, who went by the nom de guerre Abu Muhammad al-Masri, was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle in the streets of Tehran on August 7, the Times reported.
The killing of Masri, who was seen as a likely successor to Al-Qaida’s current leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was kept secret until now, the newspaper said.
Iran on Saturday denied the report. Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement that the United States and Israel sometimes “try to tie Iran to such groups by lying and leaking false information to the media in order to avoid responsibility for the criminal activities of this group and other terrorist groups in the region”.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “scare-mongering tactic against Iran has become routine,” Khatibzadeh said.
It was unclear what, if any, role the United States had in the killing of the Egyptian-born militant, the Times said. U.S. authorities had been tracking Masri and other Al-Qaida operatives in Iran for years, it said.
Al Qaeda has not announced his death, Iranian officials have covered it up and no government has publicly claimed responsibility, the Times said.
A U.S. official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, declined to confirm any details of the Times’ story or say whether there was any U.S. involvement. The White House National Security Council did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Masri, one of Al-Qaida’s founding leaders, was killed along with his daughter, the widow of former Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden’s son, Hamza bin Laden, the Times reported.
Osama bin Laden orchestrated the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and was killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan in 2011.

Shi’ite Iran and Al-Qaida, a Sunni Muslim militant organization, have long been enemies.
Masri had been in Iran’s “custody” since 2003 but had been living freely in an upscale suburb of Tehran since 2015, the Times cited unnamed U.S. intelligence officials as saying.
U.S. counterterrorism officials believe Iran, also a U.S. enemy, may have let them live there to conduct operations against U.S. targets, the Times said.
It was not immediately known what, if any, impact Masri’s death has had on Al-Qaida’s activities. Even as it has lost senior leaders in the nearly two decades since the attacks on New York and Washington, it has maintained active affiliates from the Middle East to Afghanistan to West Africa.

Man sei „berührt„.

(DM)

BREAKING – Finland’s Prime Minister and member of the Social Democratic Party Sanna Marin calls for a vaccination card for freedom to travel in 2021 amid the #COVID19 pandemic.

    ==========================================

Finland’s PM suggests COVID-19 vaccination certificate for traveling

As the prospect of a covid-19 vaccine becomes clearer, Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland, and a prominent member of the Social Democratic Party has called for a COVID-19 vaccination certificate. This certification will allow people to travel in 2021 despite the ongoing pandemic. The COVID-19 vaccination certificate is part of Sanna Marin’s common European strategy regarding testing, tracing, and quarantine in addition to other areas of public health.

Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin urges on a COVID-19 vaccination certificate
“Europe, still feeling the impact of prior restrictions, cannot afford a long-term economic recession with the resulting bankruptcies and rise in unemployment,” said Sanna Marin. It is no secret that the pandemic has had disastrous effects on the economy. The Finland Prime Minister has urged EU Member states to strengthen measures of contact tracing.

“Going forward, the primary responsibility for public health will continue to lie with the member states, but in an integrated Europe, a member state that has succeeded in halting the spread of the disease will not be protected unless we are all successful. Promoting a common and effective strategy is therefore the most important task of the European Union.” Sanna Marin emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Member States regarding their stance on pandemic regulations. Cross-border travel and other restrictions can only be eased if testing regimes are adopted by all states.

Finland has adopted efficient measures for contact tracing. The most notable measure taken by Finland is the Koronavilkku app, this tracing app has been developed by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) to help citizens find out whether they may have been exposed to coronavirus. The app has been downloaded and used by about 50% of the population.

    Testing regimes must be established
The ‘test, trace, isolate, and treat’ strategy adopted based on the recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), provides a solid framework for the work regarding the testing regime. The starting point of the action plan entails extensive testing in all European states. The tests also need to be affordable and reliable so people can regularly get tested without incurring heavy costs. WHO has stressed that the Member States must strengthen these measures to prevent the second wave from shattering the already staggering economy.

Sanna Marin further stated that a COVID-19 vaccination certificate is necessary to allow for smooth cross-border travel. She also urged the EU Member States to adopt stringent cross-border travel restriction, she said these measures should only be eased when there are common testing and tracing regime established for passengers. Till the vaccine becomes available, the SOPs regarding travel restrictions must be strictly observed.

“In cases where traveling requires a negative test result, we must develop an international, secure and digital solution for collecting data on whether a passenger has already contracted the disease or, in the future, possibly a vaccination certificate,” she said.

Following recent terrorist attacks in Nice and Vienna, EU home affairs ministers agreed to further strengthen their joint efforts to fight terrorism.

EU interior ministers on Friday (13 November), promised a coordinated crackdown on Islamist extremism after last month’s attacks in Paris, Nice and Vienna, as the bloc walks a fine line between tackling the threat of terror attacks and stigmatizing its Muslim communities.

Some member states, notably France and Austria, have been calling for action to specifically target Islamist extremism – including ideology.

But, despite noting the Islamist motivation of the murder of schoolteacher Samuel Paty in France last month, the joint statement did not single out any particular religious faith and does not mention ‘Islam’ as such.

The reference to Islam was removed from the EU governments’ declaration after disagreements.

Instead, member states pledged to protect “religious expression which is both peaceful and respectful of the laws adopted by our member states. This applies equally to all religions.”

“Our fight against terrorism is not directed against any religious or political beliefs, but against fanatical and violent extremism,” the statement said.

“Acting US Defence Secretary Christopher Miller said he believes all war must end and that troops must return from overseas conflicts in his first statement since being appointed to the role.

Miller, head of the National Counterterrorism Centre, was appointed in an acting capacity in place of Mark Esper by President Donald Trump in a tweet on Wednesday.

“As we prepare for the future, we remain committed to finishing the war that Al Qaida* brought to our shores in 2001. This war isn’t over. We are on the verge of defeating Al Qaida and its associates, but we must avoid our past strategic error of failing to see the fight through to the finish,” Miller said in the letter directed to all Defence Department employees.

Miller went on to say that it was time for the return of troops but did not provide any details.

“We met the challenge; we gave it our all. Now, it’s time to come home,” the letter read.
Over the course of his presidency, Trump has pushed for the drastic drawdown of troops involved in foreign conflicts as part of a 2016 campaign promise only to be faced with staunch resistance from Pentagon leadership.

Miller, possibly Trump’s last appointment in office, is known as an advocate of ending US foreign involvements.

  15. Over Half Labour Party Muslims Don’t Trust Leadership to Tackle Islamophobia, Report Reveals (sputniknews, Nov 14, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/uk/202011141081167391-over-half-labour-party-muslims-dont-trust-leadership-to-tackle-islamophobia-report-reveals/

“While the UK Labour Party has become embroiled with allegations of widespread antisemitism in recent years, culminating an Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) investigation, it’s Muslim members and supporters have also made complaints about a lack of representation among the new leadership.

Over half of Labour’s Muslim members believe the party leadership doesn’t take Islamophobia seriously, new research has found.

The survey, organised and conducted by the Labour Muslim Network (LMN), discovered that 55% of respondents say they do not “trust the leadership of the Labour Party to tackle Islamophobia effectively”.

A further 59% of Muslim members and supporters say they do not feel “well represented by the leadership of the party” while more than 1 in 4 claims they have had direct experience with Islamophobia in the party.

One-third of Labour’s Muslims say they have witnessed Islamophobia in the party first hand and 48% report that they lack confidence in the organisation’s ability to deal with the complaints “effectively”.

Un a joint statement, Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer and Deputy Leader Angela Rayner thanked the Labour Muslim Network for the report and “their work to ensure our Muslim members are represented, included and heard”

“Islamophobia has no place in our party or society and we are committed to rooting it out”, the statement said.

“We look forward to working with LMN to implement their recommendations and will be meeting with them to discuss the next steps in tackling the scourge of Islamophobia.”

The survey, which used a sample of 422 Labour Muslim members and supporters, comes as Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership has become embroiled with questions of trust over racism.

Last month, the EHRC released it’s report on anti-Semitism in Labour, following a crisis that saw many Jewish voters abandon the party over accusations of institutional racism under former leader Jeremy Corbyn.

During his leadership campaign earlier this year, Keir Starmer accepted a list of 10 pledges set out by the LMN and “on behalf of 3million British Muslims and party members”.”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/report-gunmen-kill-iranian-guards-turkish-border-74196398

“Unknown gunmen on Friday killed three Iranian border guards near the country’s northwestern border with Turkey, Iran’s state media reported.

The official IRNA news agency said the three were killed in a clash when “terrorists” tried to sneak into Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, located about 650 kilometers (400 miles) northwest of the capital, Tehran.

The report said two other border guard were wounded and that the infiltrators suffered heavy casualties. The province of West Azerbaijan borders both Iraq and Turkey and the report did not say which country the infiltrators had come from.

The area has seen occasional fighting between Iranian forces and Kurdish separatists, as well as militants linked to the extremist Islamic State group. In July, Iran said “terrorists” killed two people and wounded a third person in an attack in Iran’s province of Kurdistan, to the south of West Azerbaijan. In June, Iran attacked bases of Iranian Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.”

“FRENCH police have smashed a gang which smuggled up to 1,000 migrants into Britain in just a year.

The Pierrefitte connection netted nearly £3million from loading them into trucks bound for Britain. For the last 12 months police have watched the group closely, including bugging a bar in the Paris suburbs where the smugglers met to plot their crimes.

Raids this month saw seven people arrested, said French police.

The crime group smuggled migrants living around Paris out to the highway where they were loaded on to trucks.

The method reflects a shift of smugglers starting journeys further from the border in the belief that vehicles are less likely to be searched.

  20. Scottish Hate Crime Bill Could Criminalise ‘Inflammatory’ Bible (breitbart, Nov 14, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/11/14/scottish-hate-crime-bill-could-criminalise-inflammatory-bible/

“A sloppily worded hate crime bill in Scotland could undermine free speech and unfairly stigmatize people of faith, the Christian Institute has warned.

The Christian Institute’s Deputy Director Ciarán Kelly said on Friday that the proposed legislation “risks creating a chilling effect on free speech” because of the ambiguity of its language and lack of protections for basic freedoms.

“The new offences cover ‘abusive’ behaviour intended to ‘stir up hatred’ but no explanation is given as to what these terms actually mean,” Mr Kelly said.

“Would it be ‘abusive’ and ‘hateful’ to quote the Bible’s teaching on marriage, gender or sexual ethics?” he added. “Some groups would say yes. There is a real risk of malicious reports from activists who wish to stop Christians expressing their beliefs.”

“Provisions on ‘inflammatory material’ could be used against Christian books, sermons by church ministers – even the Bible itself,” Kelly noted. “The potential reach of the offences is enormous, affecting religious practice in public and in private.”

These fears are not without basis and atheist groups have already threatened to use the new legislation to target Christians.

Atheists see some merit in the Hate Crime Bill, said the convener of Atheists Scotland, Ian Stewart, “as it will enable the prosecution of all Scotland’s religions and their Holy Books for spreading hatred.”

“It is utterly unacceptable that in progressive, social democratic Scotland that squalid, Bronze Age village disputes, as described in the Holy Books, about control of women, goats or water should give Scotland’s ‘Holy Willies‘ authority to spout out vitriol against atheists, agnostics, apostates, sceptics, non-believers, women, trans people and homosexuals,” Stewart declared in the Dundee newspaper The Courier.

Stewart said that his group intends to “monitor all Holy Books, sermons in places of worship and the social media accounts of the various religions” and will report any offenders to police to be criminally prosecuted.

This past summer, the director of the Catholic Parliamentary Office, Anthony Horan, warned that the bill could enshrine “cancel culture” in law.

“A new offence of possessing inflammatory material could even render material such as the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church inflammatory,” Mr Horan noted. “The Catholic Church’s understanding of the human person, including the belief that sex and gender are not fluid and changeable, could potentially fall foul of the new law.”

“Allowing for respectful debate should mean avoiding censorship and accepting the divergent views and multitude of arguments inhabiting society,” Horan said.

Scotland’s courts have ruled that the freedom to shock, offend, and disturb are protected by the right to freedom of expression, Horan said, while the nation’s bishops have argued that freedom of expression must protect everyone’s freedom to disagree.

The legislation could lead to Scotland becoming an “intolerant, illiberal society,” Horan added underscoring the dangers inherent in a law that leaves so much room for interpretation…”

  21. Exodus: Christian Armenians Burn Their Homes as Land Handed to Turkey-Backed Azeris (breitbart, Nov 14, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/11/14/exodus-christian-armenians-burn-their-homes-as-land-handed-to-turkey-backed-azeris/

“In a bitter farewell to his home of 21 years, Garo Dadevusyan wrenched off its metal roof and prepared to set the stone house on fire. Thick smoke poured from houses that his neighbours had already torched before fleeing this ethnic Armenian village about to come under Azerbaijani control.

The village is to be turned over to Azerbaijan on Sunday as part of territorial concessions in an agreement to end six weeks of intense fighting with Armenian forces. The move gripped its 600 people with fear and anger so deep that they destroyed the homes they once loved.

The settlement — called Karvachar in Armenian — is legally part of Azerbaijan, but it has been under the control of ethnic Armenians since the 1994 end of a war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. That war left not only Nagorno-Karabakh itself but substantial surrounding territory in Armenian hands.

After years in which sporadic clashes broke out between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces, full-scale fighting began in late September this year. Azerbaijan made relentless military advances, culminating in the seizure of the city of Shusha, a strategically key city and one of strong emotional significance as a longtime centre of Azeri culture.

Two days after Azerbaijan announced it had taken Shusha, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russia-brokered cease-fire under which territory that Armenia occupies outside the formal borders of Nagorno-Karabakh will be gradually ceded.

Muslim Azeris and Christian Armenians once lived together in these regions, however uneasily. Although the cease-fire ends the fighting, it aggravates ethnic animosity.

“In the end, we will blow it up or set it on fire, in order not to leave anything to Muslims,” Dadevusyan said of his house.

He spoke while taking a rest from salvaging what he could from the home, including metal roof panels, and piling it onto an aged flatbed truck.

The truck’s final destination is unclear.

“We are homeless now, do not know where to go and where to live. Do not know where to live. It is very hard,” said his wife Lusine, choked by tears, as they gave the interior of the house a last look.

Dadevusyan’s dismay extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Armenia and Russia keep close relations and Russia has a sizeable military base in Armenia, so many Armenians had hoped for support from Moscow. Instead, Russia facilitated the cease-fire and territorial concessions and is sending in nearly 2,000 peacekeepers to enforce it.

“Why has Putin abandoned us?” Dadevusyan said.

Hundreds of thousands of Azeris were displaced by the war that ended in 1994. It is unclear when any civilians might try to settle in Karvachar – which will now be known by its Azeri name Kalbajar – or elsewhere.

Any returns could be wrenching. Settlers will confront the burned, empty shells of houses – or worse. Agdam, which is to be turned over next week, once was a city of about 40,000, but now is an empty sprawl of buildings that were destroyed in the first war or later ruined by pillagers grabbing building materials.

For the Dadevusyans, their sudden relocation is overwhelming beyond words.

“When you spent 21 years here and now need to leave it…,” Garo Dadevusyan said, trailing off, as smoke from nearby burning houses choked the air. Soon, he knew, his house would be one of them.”

The resignation is the first of its kind for a Paris official, according to a report from French newspaper Le Monde. Aidenbaum, 78, will be replaced by environmentalist Corine Faugeron.

The sexual assault case began in September when the alleged victim came forward, and the case was presented to Mayor Hidalgo the following day. The case was then sent to a public prosecutor who opened an investigation…”

  23. Law Commission Pushes for Hate Speech Law to Ban ‘Islamophobic’ Mohammed Cartoons (breitbart, Nov 14, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/11/14/woke-law-commission-pushes-ban-on-islamophobic-muhammed-cartoons-in-the-uk/

“The Law Commission has proposed changes to hate crime laws in Britain that would see Charlie Hebdo style caricatures of the Islamic prophet banned, in what is being described as “the Scottish Hate Crime Bill on steroids”.

The suggested hate speech reforms from the Law Commission, an unelected official body of lawyers in England and Wales, would see the government ban the dissemination of “inflammatory cartoons” in the wake of Islamist terror attacks in France.

The 533-page report said that current restrictions on free speech in the United Kingdom do not adequately punish those who share “Islamophobic cartoons”, arguing that while they may already be prosecutable under section 127(1) of the Communications Act 2003, it “does not carry the same gravity or labelling as the stirring up offences. It does not reflect the fundamental harm involved, which is not that it is offensive, but that it incites hatred.”

The Law Commission said that “stirring up hatred” offences un the Public Order Act 1986 should go beyond just written material, meaning that newspaper and magazine editors could face up to seven years in prison for publishing “inflammatory images”.

The consultation also pushed the idea of creating legal protections for “philosophical beliefs”, with the Commission pointed to humanism as a potentially protected ideology– ironically, given the longstanding tradition of humanists opposing blasphemy laws.

The Law Commission went on to call for an expansion of so-called protected classes, saying that attacks on groups such as immigrants, asylum seekers, cross-dressers, sex workers, asexuals, and women should be added to the list of “hate crimes”.

The group claimed that “the whole point of hate-crime law… is to educate the public” and therefore by criminalising misogyny it would serve to remind the British public that “negative attitudes towards women are not acceptable”.

A columnist for the Spectator, Joanna Williams wrote: “The [consultation] drips with contempt for the British public: we are either hateful and in need of re-education, or pathetic and in need of protection.”

Andrew Tettenborn, a law professor at Swansea University, described the Commission’s proposals as “the Scottish Hate Crime Bill on steroids”.

“Well, we must collectively tell the Law Commission, calmly and clearly, that they can get stuffed. The enemies of freedom are circling like vultures above the carcass of an antelope – right now we are the antelope,” said Brexit campaigner Darren Grimes.

In contrast to the approach taken by the Law Commission, French president Emanuel Macron has come out in defence of free speech and Enlightenment values, after a Samuel Pay, a French teacher, was beheaded by a Chechen asylum seeker for showing his class caricatures of the Muslim prophet Mohammed from the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo during a class on freedom of expression.

President Macron has also taken a stronger stance on radical Islamic extremism and has called for Islamists who fail to uphold French values to leave the country.

“People who think like that, let them do it somewhere else, but not on French soil,” Macron said.

Unlike the United States, the United Kingdom already has strict limits on freedom of speech, criminalising so-called “hate speech” and recording tens of thousands of so-called ‘non-crime hate incidents’, including posts on social media.

Police in England and Wales have recorded some 87,000 ‘non-crime hate incidents’ in the same police database that tracks real crimes, meaning that such “offences” are listed on a background check despite the individual not having committed any actual crime.

Police have called upon the British public to inform to them if they believe their fellow citizens have made “offensive or insulting comments, online, in person or in writing”.

Writing in opposition to the further restrictions proposed by the Law Commission, the research director for The Free Speech Union. Dr Radomir Tylecote, said: “One of the hallmarks of a totalitarian society is that the state’s writ extends into every nook and cranny of people’s lives, eroding the distinction between private and public.”

“Is this what the Law Commission wants? To set children against parents, husbands and against wives, all in the name of boosting social cohesion?”

He went on to quote a testimonial from a woman who grew up under communism in the Soviet Union, who said: “We were brought up to keep our mouths shut. ‘You’ll get into trouble for your tongue’ – that’s what people said to us children all the time. We went through life afraid to talk. Mama used to say that every other person was an informer. We were afraid of our neighbours, and especially of the police.””

  24. France: Danish Anti-Islam Activist Deported After Trying to Burn Islamic Qur’an (breitbart, Nov 14, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/11/14/france-danish-anti-islam-activist-deported-trying-burn-quran/

“Danish anti-Islam activist Rasmus Paludan was arrested in Paris this week and deported after trying to burn the Qur’an in front of the Arc de Triomphe.

Paludan was arrested in his car at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the same day France commemorates the end of the First World War and pays homage to fallen soldiers.

According to a report by French magazine Marianne, Paludan had already been handed a ban on entering Franch territory and arrived in the country illegally on November 10th.

He was arrested before being able to burn copies of the Islamic holy book and placed in administrative detention in a facility operated by the Department of Migration Control (DCFM) before being deported that evening.

The attempted Qur’an burning is just the latest for Paludan, who recently, along with fellow members of his Stram Kurs (Hard Line) group, has undertaken similar stunts in other countries outside of his native Denmark.

In September, a member of Stram Kurs burned a copy of the Qur’an in the no-go Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby, posting a video of the incident to social media and saying: “I am from Stram Kurs, and we are here in Rinkeby.”

A month before, the group burned a Qur’an in the multicultural southern Swedish city of Malmö, which led to riots and unrest among locals when a mob of 300 people gathered to protest.

In response, the government banned Paludan from Sweden, but Paludan claimed in October he had Swedish citizenship and stated he wanted to engage in similar actions later this year.

“I hope that we will be able to do activities in Sweden as early as later this year,” he told Danish media, adding: “The Swedish Constitution states that no citizen may be refused entry. I’m going to have a Swedish passport before I try to get in.”

Muslim groups in Sweden, meanwhile, have called on the country to look at implementing new laws to ban the burning of religious texts such as the Qur’an.

The arrest and deportation of Paludan comes just under a month after the city of Montpellier projected cartoons of Mohammed onto a government building following the murder of teacher Samuel Paty.”

“A man armed with a knife was arrested at a hospital in the Paris region after allegedly looking for the Nice terror attacker to kill him.

Hospital security stopped the man on Wednesday, finding a knife in his pocket. The suspect admitted he was looking for the 21-year-old Tunisian migrant, Brahim Aouissaoui, who killed three people in a Nice church last month, saying he wanted to “deliver justice” and kill him.

The man, who has not been identified, was later taken into police custody, with investigators saying they are still investigating his motives, La Depeche reports…”

  26. EUROPRAVDA – Hold Up’: French coronavirus film gives floor to the ‘usual suspects of conspiracy’

A controversial new film in France has been widely criticised for featuring and promoting conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic.

French politicians and non-governmental organisations have condemned Hold Up, which claims to reveal “the errors made by the highest public authorities”.

The film falsely concludes that a global conspiracy plot had been formed by the world’s elites against citizens through the pandemic.

The majority of claims featured in the film have been widely debunked by fact-checkers.

In one example, the film suggests that France “is not applying the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations” and “the WHO does not say that everyone should put on a mask”.

    ‘Not a documentary, not journalism’

The latest health advice, updated on 20 October, urges citizens to “make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people”.

In June, the WHO also advised authorities “to encourage the wearing of masks by the general public in particular situations and places”, as part of a comprehensive approach to fight against the transmission of the virus.

Coralie Dubost, deputy president of Emmanuel Macron’s La République En Marche! party (LREM), has led condemnations of the film and is contributors.

“‘Hold Up’ is not a documentary, it is not journalism, it is blockbuster budget conspiratorial propaganda,”tweeted Dubost.

Fellow politician Laetitia Avia also described the project as “mind-blowing” and “fake news on fake news”.

“We could laugh about it if the situation was not so serious,” Avia tweeted on Thursday.

Other politicians and celebrities in France have promoted the film, criticising the government for its health policies during the pandemic.

Hold Up was launched in August through a crowdfunding campaign on Ulule, aiming to raise over €180,000 for the film’s production.

The project was finalised in November and brought together sceptics and theorists to attack the measures taken by France in response to the coronavirus health crisis.

The nearly three-hour documentary was directed by former journalist Pierre Barnérias, and produced by Christophe Cossé, who has described COVID-19 as “no worse than another seasonal flu”.

Film gives the floor to ‘usual suspects of conspiracy’

Hold Up also features testimonies from well-known personalities and former government ministers, including former Health Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy, who has since distanced himself from the project.

“I have not seen this film and if there is the slightest conspiracy, I want to say as clearly as possible that I disassociate myself from it,” Douste-Blazy said on Twitter.

“The health crisis we are going through is serious enough not to add confusion to the painful moments we are going through.”

The co-founder of the Ulule funding site has also said the film was has been pulled from any advertising on the platform.

“The initial pitch was mainly positioned on the mode ‘other voices are possible’, and the point became politicised as the project progressed,” said Alexandre Boucherot in a statement.

“Very quickly, we realised that it went beyond the supposed initial framework and became a banner of conspiracy theories very far from what we defend on Ulule.”

Ulule says that the entire commission received from Hold Up will be donated to an association for the “defence of information”.

Hold Up has been removed by other video-sharing platforms, such as Vimeo and Dailymotion, while links to the film have also since been blocked on Facebook.

A full version of the documentary that remains online has been watched more than 150,000 times, while a trailer for Hold Up also remains visible on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

“The documentary gives the floor to the usual suspects of conspiracy,” said Tristan Mendès France, associate lecturer at the University of Paris.

“The success of this conspiracy film can also be explained by the fact that it is particularly well-polished.”

COVID 19 Documentaire inédit Hold Up
