Reader’s Links for October 15, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Kyrgyz President Resigns After Unrest: ‘I Don’t Want to Go Down in History as Leader Who Shed Blood’ (sputniknews, Oct 15, 2020)

“The Central Asian country was hit by mass protests earlier this month after parliamentary elections, which have since been annulled. The crowds clashed with law enforcement and stormed the parliament building, which also serves as the presidential office.

Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has signed his resignation, the press service of the presidential office announced.

“I am not clinging to power. I do not want to remain in the history of Kyrgyzstan as a president who shed blood and shot at his own citizens. Therefore, I’ve decided to step down”, an official statement from Jeenbekov said.

Jeenbekov also urged Sadyr Japarov, the newly-appointed prime minister, and other politicians to withdraw their supporters from the protests, “returning peaceful life to the residents of Bishkek”.

Following Jeenbekov’s resignation, the supporters of PM Japarov also called for the dissolution of the parliament.

Opposition protests earlier hit Kyrgyzstan after parliamentary elections held on 4 October. The protesters seized the capital’s White House and City Hall, also entering the building of the State Committee for National Security, prompting the release of former Kyrgyz president, Almazbek Atambaev, and other former officials, arrested amid the state of emergency.

Following the clashes, the Kyrgyz Central Commission annulled the election results, while several top Kyrgyz officials, including the country’s prime minister, Kubatbek Baronov, resigned from their positions.”

  2. Two Suspected Terrorists Killed in Kashmir Ahead of Crucial Political Meeting (sputniknews, Oct 15, 2020)

“In less than 24 hours, Indian security personnel have eliminated four suspected terrorists in Kashmir’s Shopian district. On Wednesday, the Indian Army allegedly foiled a suspected Border Action Team (BAT) action by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district.

At least two purported terrorists were killed in an intense gunfight in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, the northern command of the Indian Army claimed.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that these two alleged terrorists had an affiliation with the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed. The Indian Army said that it had also recovered AK-47 assault rifles and other incriminating materials from these reported terrorists.

As per police records, at least 199 terrorists have been killed in 118 counter-terror operations in the valley in 2020 in comparison to 163 terrorists gunned down in 2019.

Meanwhile, the signatories to the so-called Gupkar Declaration, which vows to “fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status”, will be meeting in Srinagar on Thursday afternoon. These leaders, who spent over a year in detention, will be meeting for the first time since they issued the declaration on 4 August 2019, a day before the Indian government scrapped Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status.”

  3. Cyprus Parliament Speaker Reportedly Resigns Amid ‘Golden Passport’ Scheme Scandal (sputniknews, Oct 15, 2020)

“On Tuesday, the ?ypriot government scrapped a “golden passport” citizenship-through-investment scheme, in operation since 2013, following an Al Jazeera probe into the issue.

Cyprus parliamentary speaker Demetris Syllouris reportedly resigned on Thursday amid the ongoing scandal in the country involving so-called “golden passports”.

The lawmaker’s move comes as government spokesman Kyriakos Kousios said on Tuesday that Cyprus had cancelled a programme that stipulated the granting citizenship in exchange for investment.

“At today’s extraordinary session of the council of ministers, the ministers of finance and interior affairs proposed to cancel this investment programme. The proposal was based on long-term drawbacks and abuse of the Cyprus investment programme. The decision will enter force on 1 November 2020”, Kousios pointed out.

This was preceded by Syllouris apologising in a written statement earlier on Tuesday and stating that he would withdraw from his duties.

The project envisages granting full citizenship to wealthy individuals who invest at least 2.2 million euros ($2.6 million) in the country.

The decision to scrap the scheme came on the heels of allegations that Syllouris and a veteran lawmaker had been caught red-handed trading European citizenship for money.

The claims were contained in an hour-long report called The Cyprus Papers Undercover, by Al Jazeera’s investigative unit.

The journalists were believed to have used hidden cameras to show Syllouris, and lawmaker Christakis Giovanis promising “full support” for granting a passport to a fictitious Chinese investor, despite the latter having purportedly been convicted of being a money launderer.

European Commission spokesman Christian Wigand, for his part, pledged that the EU’s executive body would decide whether infringement proceedings against Cyprus might be launched.

“We watched in disbelief how high-level officials were trading European citizenship for financial gains”, Wigand said, adding that “European values are not for sale”.”

  4. Pakistan summons Indian diplomat over Kashmir border firing (abcnews, Oct 15, 2020)

“Pakistan summoned a senior Indian diplomat to its Foreign Ministry on Thursday to complain about what Islamabad says was “indiscriminate and unprovoked firing” by India in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.

A Pakistani Foreign Ministry statement said the cross-border fire on Wednesday seriously injured two Pakistani civilians, ages 25 and 28, from Barmoch village.

Meanwhile, India said it was Pakistan that fired the first shot. Lt. Col. Devender Anand, an Indian army spokesman, said an unprovoked attack by Pakistani troops targeted Indian positions in southern Poonch district in India-administered Kashmir. He said there were no casualties on the Indian side and India retaliated “befittingly.”

Pakistan and India routinely accuse each other of unprovoked attacks along the tense Kashmir frontier in violation of a 2003 cease-fire agreement…”

  5. Iran acknowledges cyberattacks on government departments (abcnews, Oct 15, 2020)

“Iran’s cybersecurity authority acknowledged cyberattacks on two governmental departments this week, state media reported Thursday.

The cyberattacks occurred Tuesday and Wednesday and were under investigation, the state-owned IRAN daily newspaper said.

While the report did not say which government departments were targeted, it called the attacks “important” and said some other departments temporarily took down their online services as a precaution against further attacks.

The brief report did not blame any group or country for the attacks…”

    • Israel and Azerbaijan: An unbreakable strategic partnership

[…] Azerbaijan is not only Israel’s ally and strategic partner in the Islamic world, but also sets an example for interreligious and interethnic tolerance.

Azerbaijan, a predominantly Shi’ite country, is also home to several other ethnic and religious groups, including ancient Zoroastrian, Christian and Jewish communities. Tolerance and coexistence among all the nation’s minorities has played a vital role in Azerbaijan’s progress from the days of the ancient Silk Road to 21st century modernity.

Unlike in many countries and ethnic groups, Azerbaijanis have never viewed Jews as alien or foreign. Relatively few people outside Azerbaijan know about the remarkable role the local Jewish community has played in Azerbaijan.

I can proudly point out that Azerbaijan’s leadership shows a great affinity and respect for the country’s Jewish community. Under the patronage of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, two synagogues and the largest Jewish educational center in the South Caucasus have been built.

In the next three months, the Mountain Jewish Museum in Red Village, Azerbaijan’s unique all-Jewish town, as well as in all of the South Caucasus, is due to open its doors. For centuries, there, hidden in the mountains, a Jewish community safely thrived amid the surrounding Muslim population.

The Qirmizi Qesebe ancient village, located in northern Azerbaijan, is the genuine pride of the country, said to be the only all-Jewish town outside of Israel and the US.

Tolerance and interculturalism are Azerbaijani society’s key foundations. The State of Israel also highly appreciates the role of the Azerbaijani leadership in relation to the Jewish community. Without this tradition of respect and partnership, close bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Israel were hardly exist.

Relations between the two, as well as between Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Jews, cannot be explained by simple mutual interest. Common values and common history permeate modern interstate relations. Both countries are enriched with human ties and determination to live in diverse and religiously tolerant societies.

Time and again Azerbaijan has demonstrated that harmony is possible, and any rising issue can be resolved without resorting to violence or strife.

    • YouTube shuts down conspiratorial channel Radio-Quebec

The conspiratorial channel Radio-Quebec was closed Thursday morning on YouTube because it “repeatedly violated the guidelines regarding disinformation on COVID-19”.

“We remain committed to providing timely and useful information on COVID-19, including removing videos that promote medically unfounded advice, increasing authoritative content, and posting Health Canada information boards for help fight against disinformation, ”it was pointed out.

The closure of this account given by Alexis Cossette-Trudel comes a week after that of the same name on Facebook Canada, which also wants to eradicate conspiratorial accounts advocating QAnon and which has promised to remove potentially content, pages and groups from its platforms. dangerous. “We have withdrawn Radio-Quebec for its declared affiliation with QAnon”, it was indicated last week.

Note that Radio-Quebec’s YouTube page had barely closed when another was already appearing on the Viméo platform.

YOUTUBE – Managing harmful conspiracy theories on YouTube

Today, we are taking another step in our efforts to curb hate and harassment by removing more conspiracy theory content used to justify real-world violence.

Managing misinformation and harmful conspiracy theories is challenging because the content is always shifting and evolving. To address this kind of content effectively, it’s critical that our teams continually review and update our policies and systems to reflect the frequent changes. Today, we are taking another step in our efforts to curb hate and harassment by removing more conspiracy theory content used to justify real-world violence. This builds on our work over the last several years to strengthen and evolve our policies and enforcement — work that has been organized around FOUR PILLARS : removing violative content, reducing the spread of harmful misinformation, raising authoritative voices, and rewarding trusted creators.

Nearly two years ago, we took a major step to limit the reach of harmful misinformation by updating our recommendations system. This resulted in a 70% drop in views coming from our search and discovery systems. In fact, when we looked at QAnon content, we saw the number of views that come from non-subscribed recommendations to prominent Q-related channels dropped by over 80% since January 2019.

Additionally, we’ve removed tens of thousands of QAnon-videos and terminated hundreds of channels under our existing policies, particularly those that explicitly threaten violence or deny the existence of major violent events. All of this work has been pivotal in curbing the reach of harmful conspiracies, but there’s even more we can do to address certain conspiracy theories that are used to justify real-world violence, like QAnon.

Today we’re further expanding both our hate and harassment policies to prohibit content that targets an individual or group with conspiracy theories that have been used to justify real-world violence. One example would be content that threatens or harrasses someone by suggesting they are complicit in one of these harmful conspiracies, such as QAnon or Pizzagate. As always, context matters, so news coverage on these issues or content discussing them without targeting individuals or protected groups may stay up. We will begin enforcing this updated policy today, and will ramp up in the weeks to come.

Due to the evolving nature and shifting tactics of groups promoting these conspiracy theories, we’ll continue to adapt our policies to stay current and remain committed to taking the steps needed to live up to this responsibility.

      • CBC – Quebec conspiracy theorist kicked off YouTube for spreading COVID-19 misinformation

Radio-Québec loses another platform after being booted from Facebook last week

Quebec’s best-known conspiracy theorist, Alexis Cossette-Trudel, lost another media platform on Thursday when YouTube shut down his account, which had more than 120,000 subscribers.

YouTube said it was removing Cossette-Trudel’s channel, Radio-Québec, for “repeatedly violating our community guidelines regarding COVID-19 misinformation.” The news was first reported by Radio-Canada.

Last week, Facebook shut down both Cossette-Trudel’s personal account and his Radio-Québec account, where he had also gained a large following.

Facebook said it took action against Radio-Québec because of its affiliation with the QAnon conspiracy movement, which believes, among other things, that world events are controlled by a cabal of Satanic pedophiles.

YouTube said Thursday it too is taking measures to keep QAnon content off its platform. It announced that it will remove videos that target “an individual or group with conspiracy theories that have been used to justify real-world violence.”

A spokesperson for YouTube told CBC News that 60 channels and 1,800 videos were removed Thursday under the new policy, and more terminations were expected in the coming weeks.

The spokesperson, Zaitoon Murji, said Radio-Québec was removed not for its ties to QAnon but for spreading incorrect information about COVID-19.

        Influence grew as pandemic worsened

The number of subscribers to Radio-Québec’s YouTube channel have more than tripled since the start of the pandemic.

In his videos, some of which have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, Cossette-Trudel repeats groundless claims that the dangers of COVID-19 are being exaggerated as part of a plot to undermine U.S. President Donald Trump.

He also routinely maintains — without evidence — that Quebec government officials are manipulating statistics about deaths and hospitalizations. He argues that public health restrictions, such as wearing masks indoors, are unjustified.

Thanks to his social media following, Cossette-Trudel has become a leading figure within the movement opposing Quebec’s public-health rules. He spoke at several anti-mask demonstrations in the summer and fall.

        Growing concern

The Quebec government has expressed growing concern about the influence of conspiracy theories in the province.

Premier François Legault said last week they posed a “real problem” to the government’s efforts at curbing the second wave of coronavirus infections. (The province reported 969 new cases on Thursday).

“It doesn’t help to convince the population to follow our guidelines,” Legault said.

Cossette-Trudel continues to broadcast on smaller, lesser-known social media channels, but his following there is a fraction of what it was on YouTube and Facebook.

Takeaways from Biden laptop: Hunter an accomplished grifter; the ‘Delaware Way’ *UPDATE*
    By J.E. Dyer October 15, 2020

By now most readers have probably seen the basics of the tale told by the laptop taken to a repair shop in Delaware in April 2019.

Emails recovered from the laptop appear to confirm that Hunter Biden arranged for Ukrainian energy executives to meet with then- Vice President Joe Biden in 2015, several months prior to the 2016 meeting at which, Joe Biden later bragged, he got Ukraine’s Petro Poroshenko (the president at the time) to dismiss a prosecutor who was investigating the gas company Burisma.

Other correspondence sheds light on Hunter Biden’s professional cred as a grifter leveraging the connection with his father. Readers will attest, if there’s any truth in them, that I never use the word “grifter.” I actually despise it and consider it wildly overused. (Never-Trumpers, for example, are forever using it to disparage prominent Trump supporters, almost always unfairly.)

  12. Harris suspends travel after staffers test positive for COVID-19
By LU Staff October 15, 2020

How’s that? Members of the all-masks, all-the-time Biden-Harris camp, come down with cases of the coronavirus?

The Associated Press, which broke the story, reports in its headline that it was a single staffer, although the body text contradicts that claim, indicating that two members of the team tested positive. The infected individuals are Liz Allen, Harris’s communications director, and a flight crew member.

The setback will result in the decision to suspend vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s in-person events until Monday. This could prove costly, seeing as how it interrupts “the Biden campaign’s aggressive push across a wide battleground map, including North Carolina and Ohio, the next two states Harris was scheduled to visit.”

The article quotes from a follow-up statement by Harris in which she assures her supporters that ‘both the crew member and the staff member were wearing N95 masks at all points they were near me, and our doctors believe that we were not exposed under CDC guidelines.’ She also pledged to be ‘transparent with you about any test results that I do receive. In the meantime, remember: wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands regularly. It is possible to stop the spread.’

  14. The Coronavirus Experts Were Wrong, Now They Need Scapegoats

It’s not about fighting the virus, but punishing political and cultural enemies.
Thu Oct 15, 2020 Daniel Greenfield

The problem isn’t just the China Virus. It’s that we adopted the China Model to fight it.

Public health experts adopted China’s draconian lockdowns without knowing how well they really worked and in a country that, fortunately, lacks the power to truly enforce them.

China’s deceptiveness and lack of transparency meant that we did not know how well anything that the Communist dictatorship did to battle the virus that it spawned actually worked. Despite that, our public health experts, and those of most free countries, adopted the China Model.

We don’t know how well the China Model worked for the People’s Republic of China, but it failed in every free country that tried it. Lockdowns eventually gave way to reopenings and new waves of infection. This was always going to happen because not even the more socialist European countries have the police state or the compliant populations of a Communist dictatorship.

Desperate, the public health experts adopted China’s compulsive mask wearing, a cultural practice that predates the virus, as if wearing a few flimsy scraps of fiber would fix everything.

    It hadn’t and it didn’t.

The first Islamic prayer at the Monastery of Chora in Constantinople will be performed by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 30, giving the “anointing” of Islamism to another monument of Christianity.

The doors of the Monastery of Chora, which have been closed for two months due to its conversion into a mosque, will reopen on October 30, in order for the first Islamic prayer in 75 years to take place.

The famous mosaics and hagiographies will be covered, just like has happened in Hagia Sophia, with curtains. The Monastery of Chora will be opened as a mosque during Islamic prayer hours and also serve as a tourist site outside of prayer times.

The Monastery of Chora was built in the 6th century AD but was converted by the Ottomans into a mosque in the 16th century.

It has been operating as a museum since 1945, however, after the decision of the Council of State in 2019, it was turned into a mosque.

  18. The FBI, Militias, Truth and Comey’s Legacy

In the past few days, news reports have alerted us to an FBI claim that a militia group was planning to kidnap the governor of Michigan. The Detroit Free Press wrote:

“Thirteen members of an anti-government group bent on igniting a civil war are charged in a plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who the group targeted in a possible commando raid on the state capitol, according to newly unsealed court records.

“Authorities said Thursday that the Wolverine Watchmen group planned on storming either the capitol or Whitmer’s vacation home as part of a broader mission to instigate a civil war.”

Half of the country does not believe the FBI. Is it possible that the militia story is another contrived, anti-Trump, smear job by elements within the FBI? If the FBI headquarters can run a coup against the president, can Michigan FBI agents phony-up some charges against fringe characters with sketchy criminal information?

It would not be the first time. Back on March 29, 2010, the Department of Justice announced the following:

  19. (Richard: This one is important, Iran is shipping weapons to South America, that means that some of them are going to come north to the Islamic Groups in the US and Canada. Add these to the ones that China is shipping over here for Antifa and the possible Chinese Militias that may or may not be forming. The entire world is poised to explode and lot of little wars that will have the affect of one large war.)</em)

Iran's Next Move: Arms Transfers to South America?

By the end of October, the security landscape in South America could change, with the Islamic Republic of Iran setting up arms sales in South America, from Venezuela to Bolivia. But first, any of these three things must happen:

The United Nations would have to ignore its security council resolutions and effectively let the decades-old Iran arms embargo expire on October 18.
Evo Morales' political party Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) in Bolivia would have to win the presidential elections, set for the same date (October 18).
Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro regime would need to initiate a potential weapons transfer from Tehran, as reported in late August by Colombian President Ivan Duque.

In August, President Duque, speaking at a virtual event, claimed that the Maduro regime in Venezuela was looking to acquire medium-to-long-range missiles from Iran. President Maduro initially responded by denying these claims, then said, "It's not a bad idea" and ordered his defense minister to look into the deal.

Trump Wants to Make America a ‘Manufacturing Superpower’ Without Reliance on China
    By Jack Phillips
    October 14, 2020 Updated: October 14, 2020

President Donald Trump said that if he is reelected, his administration will attempt to reduce U.S. dependence on Chinese manufacturing and bring those jobs back to the United States.

“We will make America into the manufacturing superpower of the world, ending reliance on China once and for all,” Trump said Wednesday during an event with the Economic Club of New York and other chapters.

In his remarks, the president said he would reward companies that move their jobs to the United States and punish firms that oppose the measure.

“We will keep taxes low for companies that move jobs to America, and we’ll impose steep tariffs on any company that leaves,” he said. “They want to leave? They want to make our product and then sell it back after firing everybody? Not going to happen. They will be tariffed,” Trump added.

The U.S. manufacturing sector, according to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), added about 450,000 workers during the first three years of Trump’s presidency before the pandemic. When businesses were forced to temporarily shut down, about 700,000 jobs during the March-through-September period were lost, the group said.

  21. Why Is No One (Except the President) Calling Out Kamala Harris’s Communist Ties?

On Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” on Oct. 8, President Donald Trump described Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as a “communist; she’s left of Bernie!” The president went on to cite Sen. Harris’s views, which are indeed even more extreme than Senators Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) or Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.).

But there’s much more compelling evidence to indicate that, yes, Kamala Harris may indeed be communist.
    Leftist Parents

Harris’s parents, her mother Shyamala Gopalan, an Indian cancer researcher, and Donald Harris, a Jamaican economist, were both hard-core leftists.

In the early 1960s, the couple were active in the Berkeley-based Afro-American Association.

According to one former member, Aubrey LaBrie, “Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were the heroes of some of us. … We would talk about Black Muslims, the liberation movements going on in Africa, everything.”

  22. The Truth About Biden’s Candidacy Is Hiding in Plain Sight

This column has a strophe and an antistrophe. The strophe is the old story of the purloined letter.

In Edgar Allan Poe’s tale, the wily detective C. Auguste Dupin is charged with finding a compromising letter that was written by the Queen’s lover and stolen from her boudoir by the dastardly minister D—. Where can it be hidden?

It’s not. Or, rather, it is hidden in a letter rack on the minister’s desk, “full in the view of every visitor.” Indeed, it was so obvious—“hyperobtrusive” is Poe’s word—that it was all but invisible.

It took the cleverness of Dupin to see through the obvious to the reality its very publicity concealed.

How easy it is to overlook the obvious. We look but we do not see. Or, rather, we see but we do not register, and therefore, we fail to comprehend.

  23. Biden’s Son-In-Law Advises on Campaign While Investing in COVID

Joe Biden is facing a major conflict-of-interest issue. While his son-in-law, Howard Krein has been informally advising on his presidential campaign in regards to Coronavirus he has also been investing in multiple healthcare startups focusing on Coronavirus vaccines and solutions. Krein’s investment firm, StartUp Health, began a new Coronavirus initiative in March that focuses on producing products to combat the virus. The following month Krein was listed as a member participating in daily phone calls with Biden briefing him on health policy during the pandemic. At that same time StartUp Health pledged to commit $1 million across 10 health startup focusing on COVID-19 in 30 days.

Joe Biden has claimed that he keeps all family business dealings completely separate from his work, in a statement from 2019 Biden said, “I have never discussed, with my son or my brother or with anyone else, anything having to do with their businesses. Period. And what I will do is the same thing we did in our administration. There will be an absolute wall between personal and private [business interests] and the government.”

However, the investment firm has worked closely with the Obama-Biden administration in the past, even holding a meeting with Obama and Biden in the Oval Office ahead of their launch.

  24. Turkish Radio & Television – Are India’s mosques under threat?

32 people accused of criminal conspiracy and inciting a mob to tear down the 16th century Babri Mosque in Ayodhya have been acquitted in India.

Since the verdict, Hindu Nationalists have been talking and singing about ‘Kashi and Mathura’.

What are Kashi and Mathura and are they under threat?

  25. Deutsche Pravda – India: Tanishq jewellery ad pulled after ‘love jihad’ uproar

Indian jewelry brand Tanishq has pulled an advertisement featuring an interfaith family after a massive backlash on social media.

The advertisement shows a Muslim mother-in-law organizing a baby shower for her Hindu daughter-in-law.

Opponents to the advertisement accused the brand of promoting so called “Love Jihad.”

It is a term used by right-wing Hindu groups in India who believe there’s a CONSPIRACY to convert Hindu women to Islam through marriage.

A Twitter user tweeted this video of the advertisement before it was pulled.
