Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.
This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.
So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.
This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

So I walk into my local liquor store last week for my weekly dose of distilled happy. I know what I’m looking for so head straight for the elixer-of-potato section, which happens to be near the cash. I grab the bottle then turn and take one step to the check-out. There is a middle-aged white woman ahead of me. She knows the male cashier. I heard her call him “sweetheart” when she approached him to pay. He is a colourized middle-aged man. Have you heard that? Colourized? I actually have. Or more often, racialized? I think this sounds weird. We’re all racialized. People use language so artfully to step around things they really don’t want to step in. Language is amazing. It sits so close to the brain that it’s like a car without a transmission. The power gets transferred from the engine to the wheels with no apparent gears or reductions. Of course, we know there is a transmission between the engine and the wheels, it’s just different. Those gears are what the expensive shrinks get paid to look at. I bet some shrinks make more than auto repair shops. A tranny differential that looks like a 1:1 ratio has in reality a myriad of gears between the mind and the mouth, so to speak.
My mention of these peoples’ colours is for illustration, only. No racial superiorities are intended or implied. They chat it up. I stand eight feet back.
“No, no,” she says, “I’m spending it alone this year. Just me and the cat. What about you? Any plans?”
“Well, we bought a small bird for the two of us.” She is fumbling through her oversized bag on the counter. The bag is big enough to hold all of the cat food and booze she needs, along with the heart by door she lugs wherever she goes. He scans her purchases. It’s a fair amount of alcohol for a party of one. He is standing behind plexiglass, but in order for her to fuss with her bag she must place it on the counter where the debit machine is, which is to the side of the plexiglass. “I think it will be a nice weekend. They’re saying Sunday will be sunny.” He has finished scanning and has settled back on one leg and folded his arms. He is in no hurry to hurry her. He is thinking how much he likes his job and customers like her. He never has to tell her where to stand, or to pull up her mask. She’s a lovely lady. He wishes all of his customers were like her.
Suddenly another employee of the liquor store comes out of nowhere to politely tell me that the line-up to the cashier is actually over there, sir, where the dot on the floor is, see? I really had not noticed the dot. So keenly transfixed was I, seemingly, on dispatching another item from my shopping list that I had lost all sense of my priorities. And, obviously, this other employee had not come out of nowhere, because he clearly had been monitoring my behavior while I blithely floated my spirit eight feet ahead rather than knowing my dot. Was I going mad? I shall make a bumper sticker or a t-shirt slogan: “KNOW YOUR DOT!” It will sell, bigtime. There’s gotta be a million bucks in this mess for me, somewhere. Otherwise what’s the point? (Hmm. Another slogan.)
I go to my dot. The woman is still playing with her bag and chatting with the cashier. I’m becoming a little annoyed by how they’re taking their sweet time, but I am also mastering the art of patient resignation, so I’m ok. Finally, he waves me over. I advance. The woman has kindly slid down to the end of the counter to finish her organizing. I step squarely to the opposite side of his plexiglass.
“Please step back,” says the cashier to me in a serious tone of voice. He waves his arm. “We don’t need any problems, now. We must aaaaall stay safe.”
Apparently I had advanced so far as to infringe upon the woman’s six-foot safety perimeter. Apparently I had also regressed, instantly, into an infant. I am grateful that thoughts do not take on a gaseous state holding odour or colour. Even so, I sometimes wonder if people in my midst can detect the thoughts in my head that are so vivid as to be like a riot of reaction to the utterly inane, passively-aggressive petty tyranny being imposed. The woman goes away. This time I do not move. I will wait for him to instruct me. A ghost of sarcasm has jumped into my tin soldier body. It was he who waved me forward the first time prematurely, and I sense a little snippiness coming now from behind this plastic control barrier. Was it because I had missed my dot? What if people start carrying their own folded up “FUCK YOU” dot that they can plunk down anywhere they damn well please as a form of rebellion to power-tripping tyrants both big and small? Another million-dollar idea. Pet rocks are tumbling out my coconut this morning. Must be all that turkey I devoured. Gobbled everything but the gobble, itself.
He tells me where to place the bottle even though there is only one place for the approaching customer to put things. I move to insert my card into the debit machine. There is no plexiglass control barrier between us here. “And be safe!” he says as I walk away.
I exit the mall to the outdoors. I take off my mask. (In an act of flagrant rebellion I sometimes, now, begin to remove my mask even as I’m only approaching the exit. This is me stickin’ it to The Man. Pretty crazy, huh? My next act of civil disobedience may be to flick lint at meter maids, and laugh.)
Nearing my car in the parking lot I happen to look down to see that someone has let their dog do its business. Luckily, I see it just in time. It’s not something really I want to step in, so I step around it.
I’ve only seen “racialist/ism” used on jooo-hating, farrr-rrright websites. They tend to hyphenate it with “nationalist”.
“Racialist-nationalist” gets a ride piggyback on the decent, respectable “populist” wing. Extremely hard to throw off, they make national-populists a cheap and easy target.
……
We’re sealed off from pheramone communication. Your thoughts, reactions in the liquor store would’ve been sensed without the plexiglass/mask/distancing-circles.
Natural signalling mechanisms – like eye contact and body-odor – are vital for our survival. We’ve evolved that way.
Robo-mating just won't work.Finding a mate is hard enough let alone being young now and wading in this environment. Love needs a chance. Eyes are not enough–need a whole face to start with.

[I SUGGEST THE 21 MINUTES BE USED FOR PRAYER]
TRANSLATION:
This is happening today! At 3 pm in the UK.
From the German resistance group we received this statement:
LET US SHOW OUR STRENGTH!
On October 12, 2020, we want to create a global blackout for 21 minutes to jointly demonstrate our strength.
At the same time we turn off electricity, phones, mobiles, social networks (Facebook, WhatsApp, etc. ).
This is our protest against the rules, the limits of the basic laws, which are related to the Covid virus.
People all over the world who want to end the mask requirement, social distance, forced child abuse or mandatory vaccination, can use it to show their resistance.
We need to turn off all consumers from the power grid, mobile phones, internet and other electronic equipment.
We will be doing it on October 12, 2020, then we will turn off all units for 21 minutes between 4:00 and 4:21 in the afternoon and break all power.
It is not necessary to go out on the street and demonstrate, it is enough that we turn off what they control us with.
This is an expression of our strength, our solidarity and our moral courage towards the measures related to the Covid 19 virus.
Let’s all show our strength.
Stop time and use 21 minutes for yourself, your family, to relax or just for your own thoughts.
Light up the dark.
Species ? human
Place of birth ? country
Political orientation ? freedom
Religion ? love
Around the world for blackout
?? Brighten up the darkness ??

Greece Slams Turkey’s Move to Send Research Ship to East Med as ‘Direct Threat to Regional Peace’ (sputniknews, Oct 12, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202010121080743684-greece-slams-turkeys-move-to-send-research-ship-to-east-med-as-direct-threat-to-regional-peace/
“The gas reserves of the eastern Mediterranean have been in the centre of tensions between Turkey, Greece and Cyprus, which all have competing claims to the territory.
Greece’s foreign ministry condemned Turkey’s decision to send a research ship to the eastern Mediterranean sea as a “direct threat to regional peace and security”, according to an official statement cited by AFP.
The statement comes as Turkey has announced that it will send its research ship Oruc Reis back to a disputed Mediterranean gas field after it initially returned to the country’s shores following a political escalation between Ankara and Athens.
On Sunday, the Turkish navy confirmed that the country would continue its research activities in the area until 22 October, according to information shared through the NAVTEX alert system.
“The new Turkish NAVTEX on surveys south of Kastellorizo within the Greek continental shelf, at a distance of just 6.5 nautical miles from Greek shores, is a major escalation,” Greece’s foreign ministry said.
Last week, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu in Bratislava as a part of GLOBSEC forum, the first high-profiles talks between the two powers since the east Med tensions resumed between the two this summer. During the meeting, Turkey committed to setting a date for talks on exploratory rights in the area.
The Greek ministry noted that Turkey’s decision to send the ship back to the disputed waters showed that the country was “unreliable”.
“We call on Turkey to recall its decision”, Greece insisited…”

Two terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rambagh area on Monday. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway at the operation site.

According to Le Provence newspaper, the attack occurred on Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. (00:30 GMT) in the Belle-de-Mai district of Marseille. The two teenage girls suffered gunshot wounds while inside a car believed to be a drug-related target of another car with the attackers.
The 19-year-old was hit in the head and legs, and is currently in severe condition. The second victim was injured in her knee and arm, but her vitals have been stable, the media said. The driver of the vehicle was not affected, and the fourth person who had been in the car reportedly fled the crime scene.

Swedish Pupil Banned From Wearing Cross in School Photo While Muslims Allowed to Keep Their Veils (sputniknews, Oct 12, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202010121080743801-swedish-pupil-banned-from-wearing-cross-in-school-photo-while-muslims-allowed-to-keep-their-veils/
“The incident has been reported to the Discrimination Ombudsman and condemned as an example of “tone deafness” against religion and double standards.
A 15-year-old student was not allowed to wear a cross when posing for a group photo in a Swedish school earlier this autumn. Other students, however, were allowed to wear their religious symbols, the Christian newspaper Dagen reported.
“I wore a purple sweater with a collar, my cross hung on the outside. I had a rather long chain and a cross in metal with Jesus on it”, the boy told Dagen.
According to the 15-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, a female photographer asked him to take the cross off, venturing that it would be offensive to include it in the school photo. The boy was admittedly shocked and mortified, but obeyed and put the cross in his pocket.
“I’m not the type who likes to quarrel. I gave her a meaningful look, so that she understood that I thought it was strange. I know that those who wear a veil did not have to take it off. Of course, I wish nothing that that would happen. But if I was forced to take off my cross, the same should apply to other religious symbols,” the boy explained.
The 15-year-old says that he and his family are active in the Church of Sweden and that everyone in the class has known for a long time that he is a Christian, which is completely accepted and unproblematic.
The incident has now been reported to the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) and the Children and Pupils’ Ombudsman (BEO).
“This may seem like a trifle. But ultimately it is about what kind of society we want and how much our religious freedom is worth. Then an event like this becomes serious and a matter of principle,” the boy’s father said. “It is not about us harbouring any resentment towards the school, but that it is important to react to the tone deafness that exists regarding religion, not least for Christian children and young people.”
He also suggested that the situation would have been completely different if a school photographer asked a student to take off their Muslim veil or a Jewish star of David.
“This would be a terrible abuse. But when it is a Christian symbol, then it doesn’t seem so dangerous,” he mused.
The principal of the school distanced himself from the incident and said that the photographer made a mistake. The photo company replied that the photographer had limited experience with school photography.
Until 1919, the Swedish school system was Christian, and had close connections to the church. Today, Sweden forbids religious elements from being included in the school curriculum. In independent schools, extracurricular activities can contain religious elements on a voluntary basis.”
Judges Block Deportation of Migrant Drug Dealer, Cite ‘Human Rights’ (breitbart, Oct 12, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/12/judges-block-deportation-migrant-drug-dealer-citing-human-rights/
“Judges have once again thwarted deportation efforts by Priti Patel’s Home Office, blocking the removal of a convicted drug dealer from Nigeria.
An immigration tribunal judge had ruled that deporting the drug dealer would infringe on the European right to a family life, codified by the Labour-era Human Rights Act which the Conservatives have declined to repeal, as he has a “partner” and children in Britain.
The Home Office, the government department with broad responsibility for law enforcement, border control, and immigration, managed to get this decision overturned by a second, more senior immigration judge on appeal — but the convicted criminal is now back on top after yet another hearing before the Court of Appeal.
The migrant’s “steps after release to rehabilitate himself, his changed family circumstances, and his own evidence of his current attitude towards his offending, entitled the judge to conclude that he was most unlikely to reoffend and to treat that as having some weight in the assessment of whether there were very compelling circumstances outweighing the public interest in his deportation,” claimed Lord Justice Popplewell in his ruling, siding with the first immigration judge.
Judges have repeatedly thwarted government efforts, such as they are, to deport even small numbers of foreign national offenders and illegal aliens in recent years, for example by blocking the deportation of a majority of Jamaican criminals including a killer and a rapist on a February removal flight, because they had briefly had no access to working mobile phones while in detention…”
Anti-India clashes after troops kill 2 rebels in Kashmir (abcnews, Oct 12, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/anti-india-clashes-troops-kill-rebels-kashmir-73559732
“Anti-India clashes erupted in the main city in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Monday following the killing of two suspected rebels in a gunfight with government forces.
Police and paramilitary soldiers on a tip launched a counterinsurgency operation in a neighborhood in Srinagar overnight, leading to an exchange of gunfire between trapped militants and troops early Monday, police said in a statement.
Two suspected militants were killed in the fighting, police said. Residents said troops set a civilian house on fire during the fighting.
Police said one of the dead was a Pakistani militant who had been operating in the region since earlier this year and was responsible for at least two deadly attacks on paramilitary soldiers in Srinagar.
There was no independent confirmation of the police claim…”
Iran has highest daily virus death toll, new patient count (abcnews, Oct 12, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iran-announces-highest-daily-death-toll-patient-count-73559747
“For the second day in a row, Iran shattered its single-day record for new deaths and infections from the coronavirus, with 272 people confirmed dead among more than 4,200 new cases on Monday.
Like in many other countries, the spiraling outbreak in Iran reflects the government’s contradictory virus response. This month, as the daily recorded death toll reached the triple digits, authorities announced tighter restrictions for the hard-hit capital of Tehran. Recently reopened universities and schools, as well as libraries, mosques, cinemas, museums and beauty salons shuttered. On Saturday, the government mandated that all Tehran residents wear face masks outdoors and in public places, warning violators would be fined. Cabinet spokesman Ali Rabiei promised those who tested positive would be closely tracked.
And yet enforcement in the country of 80 million remains a challenge. Those who disobey face fines of just 500,000 riyals, or $1.60, roughly the price of a burger downtown. Many residents, tired of staying home, now ignore the rules about masks and social distancing to pack the city’s indoor cafes and restaurants. As residents defy coronavirus precautions and the government resists a lockdown amid a worsening economic crisis, Iran’s caseload is skyrocketing.
Early in the pandemic, Iran emerged as a global epicenter of the virus and saw the worst outbreak in the Middle East, with more than 500,000 confirmed cases…”

HOW TO CREATE A SOCIALIST STATE – – Rules For Radicals by Saul Alinsky
1. HEALTHCARE – If you can control healthcare, you can control the people.
2. POVERTY – Increase the poverty level as high as possible. Poor people are easier to control and less likely to attack the source of their survival.
3. DEBT – Increase debt to unsustainable levels. This will allow government to increase taxes, produce more poverty and further control the people.
4. GUN CONTROL – Remove the ability for citizens to defend themselves from their government, thus allowing for the creation of a police state.
5. WELFARE – Take control of every aspect of their lives and survival; food, housing, healthcare and income.
6. EDUCATION – Control what people listen to; control what children are taught in school. Emphasize progressive ideas only.
7. RELIGION. – Remove the people’s belief in God from government schools, NO ideology can supersede the power of the state.
8. – CLASS WARFARE – Divide the people into warring factions: wealthy vs. poor, this will foster further discontent, animosity and justify raising taxes necessary for the redistribution of income through social programs.

Channel Migrant Tsar Claims ‘Vast Majority’ of Asylum Seekers Are ‘Genuine’ (breitbart, Oct 12, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/12/channel-migrant-tsar-claims-vast-majority-of-asylum-seekers-are-genuine/
“The “vast majority” of illegal migrants claiming asylum in the United Kingdom are “genuine”, alleged the recently installed Channel Migrant Tsar, despite figures pointing to the contrary.
On Saturday, Clandestine Channel Threat Commander Dan O’Mahoney laid out the government’s strategy for dealing with the growing boat migrant crisis in the English Channel. The plan included a suggestion that the Border Force may deploy nets in order to disable the rubber boats before they reach British territorial waters.
He went on to say, however, that he feels “sympathy” for asylum seekers, and that he believes the overwhelming majority are actual refugees.
“The vast majority of people seeking refuge in the UK are genuine asylum seekers. And they come from incredibly difficult conditions in the country, some of which I’ve been to and witnessed first-hand, and I have a huge amount of sympathy for that,” O’Mahoney told The Telegraph.
The claim was shot down by Migration Watch UK Chairman Alp Mehmet, who told Breitbart London: “This assertion simply doesn’t stack up. Ninety-eight per cent of those crossing the Channel illegally do claim asylum, but this is hardly an indication of genuineness.”
“In fact, figures for overall asylum claims show that the majority are not. But few of those who fail with their claims are ever removed, which is why the numbers crossing the Channel keep going up. Casting nets over dinghies will do little to stem the flow,” he warned.
Mehmet told Breitbart London that many migrants whose asylum claims are not genuine are still able to find ways to stay — and that the authorities can be “all too ready” to grant asylum or humanitarian protection to people who are really economic migrants, in any case…”
false premise, but logical. More cases means more closures, but why should possible cases from bars affect schools? There is an indiscriminate metric that assumes infection in one environment affects all 120,000 students. 10pm is “late night.”

Council member [] said he voted against the measure because he believes it will lead to more cases of the coronavirus and make it more difficult to reopen schools.

Bin Laden’s Former London Spokesman to Be Let Back Into Britain (breitbart, Oct 12, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/12/bin-ladens-former-london-spokesman-let-back-into-britain/
“The London spokesman of Osama bin Laden is to be allowed back into Britain, having completed his terrorism sentences in the United States.
60-year-old Adel Abdel Bary, or Bari, an Egyptian national who was given asylum in Britain in the 1990s with the help of Amnesty International, will be released from federal prison in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
He was granted early release on compassionate grounds due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Times — as an older and excessively fat man he is considered at-risk.
Bary had been serving time for his role in the infamous U.S. embassy bombing in Kenya and Tanzania, which left hundreds dead and thousands wounded.
The Times reports that government ministers are “urgently reviewing the situation” and “All options remain on the table” — for example, simply requesting that the Americans keep Bary.
This is a proposal which the newspaper confirms, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Americans are “unlikely” to accept.
“This is not someone who will simply just be walking the streets of Britain again,” a Whitehall source tried to assure the newspaper.
“We are very alive to the risk involved in his potential return,” they added.
They also conceded, however, that the jihadist could not be subjected to a Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures (TPIM) notice, which would restrict his movements, or a temporary exclusion order to keep him out of the country — because his sentence has already been served.
Moreover, even with the most stringent observation, the government cannot really guarantee the public’s safety, given convicted terrorists under active surveillance have successfully carried out attacks in Britain before.
Bary is a wanted man in Egypt, where he has been sentenced to death in absentia for his part in a plot to blow up a public market, but it is all but guaranteed that the British government will not extradite him to his native country, due to domestic and European laws which insist the British must take it upon themselves to shelter foreign terrorists who face the death penalty in the homelands.
His son, Abdel-Majed Abdel, is also a terrorist, having given up a rapping “career” in London to enlist with jihadists in Syria, where he was seen posing with a severed head in a social media post.
Abdel was arrested in Spain earlier this year.”

He speaks on “Bloomberg Surveillance.” The Bloomberg School of Public Health is supported by Michael R. Bloomberg, founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.
“…the President was pretty sick…”
Then his recovery in such a short time and one or some of the drugs he was given were dramatically and spectacularly effective. But no, the doctor doesn’t say this, he says that not all drugs work as effectively on all people. Fair enough. But you can’t have a “pretty sick” President recover in three or four days, raise your eyebrows and say that something here was done quite correctly, and what exactly was it.
If he tested with high viral load and low natural antibodies, _Regeneron_ would fit like the key to its lock. It wouldn’t work for everyone the same.
He also got a couple other things, but they’re not specific to early stage infection. Remdesivir is over-hyped (BigPharma). Steroids, maybe.

Protesters gather in Madrid against the state of emergency after far-right party Vox called for a demonstration. Spain’s central government on Friday 9 October 2020 declared a state of emergency in the Madrid region to enforce a partial lockdown in and around the Spanish capital.
Hundreds of vehicles paraded on the Paseo de la Castellana in central Madrid, on Monday, in a protest called by far-right party Vox against newly imposed coronavirus restrictions.
The protest coincided with the National day of Spain, a national holiday celebrated on October 12.
Protesters were seen waving Spanish flags from their cars or gathered in crowds, shouting anti-government slogans, such as “Government must resign.”
A group of protesters supported a small military parade with applause, which took place in front of the Royal Palace.
In addition to this car parade in Madrid, Vox called for caravans of vehicles in Barcelona and other Spanish cities to protest against the government under the slogan “Freedom Phase.”

crime rates in NYC reach tipping point?
Interesting to compare yearly crime rates and types. At some point, each person has to make a stay/leave decision, especially if depending on the subway to get to work in Manhattan.

Time to get out anyway.
If they need a push, this might do. Or wait till the black Israelites have at it again. Or the next Sharpton-DeBlasio-[abetted by kneeling Schumer] pogrom.
There’s no excuse for Jews to be cringing, whining, helpless these days. Ask Refuseniks. Or Yemini olim.
If they can’t make themselves heard in the political sphere – which will increasingly be the case: it’s the benjamins, baby; some people somewhere did something – then time’s up.

Uranium jerky: The tale told by timing and accusations in M/V Arctic Sea saga – Part III
By J.E. Dyer October 12, 2020
What are the stakes for America and the world as we approach the U.S. election of 2020? It is the proposition of this series that the stakes are extremely high, and that they include the ability to investigate what may be an attempt by non-state actors to acquire nuclear weapons with which to hold a veto over the actions of sovereign nations. At the very least, the attempt may involve opening stovepipes into the infrastructure of weapons-related materials and processes, in a way that confers on the non-state actors some levers against the infrastructure.

US Strikes Target Taliban as Fighting Rages in Afghanistan
https://www.thedefensepost.com/2020/10/12/us-strikes-target-taliban/
“US air strikes targeted Taliban fighters outside a key city in southern Afghanistan over the weekend, officials said Monday, with violence in the country surging despite ongoing peace talks.
Heavy fighting erupted on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, after the Taliban attacked several outposts in the area.
The US “conducted several targeted strikes in Helmand” to defend Afghan troops as they came under attack, said military spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett.
Under a deal the Taliban signed with Washington in February, the insurgents are not supposed to hit urban areas and are meant to keep violence down.
The US committed to pulling all foreign troops from the country by next May in return for Taliban security pledges and an agreement to begin talks with the Afghan government in Qatar.
General Scott Miller, the head of the American military deployment, warned the Taliban to “immediately stop their offensive actions in Helmand Province and reduce their violence around the country.”
“It is not consistent with the US-Taliban agreement and undermines the ongoing Afghan Peace Talks,” Miller said in a statement.
While the Taliban have largely held back from launching major attacks on Afghan cities, they have stepped up attacks against Afghan troops.
Helmand, which along with neighboring Kandahar province is considered a Taliban stronghold, is where international forces fought some of the bloodiest campaigns of Afghanistan’s 19-year war.
US troops are still stationed in the province but in much smaller numbers than in previous years.
President Donald Trump last week said that all American soldiers “should” be home by Christmas, in a surprise announcement that if acted upon would dramatically speed up the timeline for ending America’s longest conflict.”
Gunmen Kill Five Villagers in Central Mali
https://www.thedefensepost.com/2020/10/12/gunmen-kill-five-mali/
“At least five Malian villagers have been killed by suspected jihadists in the center of the country where attacks and ethnic clashes have been on the rise, witnesses and local officials said on Sunday.
The attack followed the kidnapping by gunmen on Tuesday of around 20 people at a weekly market in the same village, Farabougou, near the central Malian town of Niono.
“The village is cut off from the country by terrorists who have blocked all access routes,” said village chief Boukary Coulibaly.
Villagers trying to enter the area were ambushed, leaving five dead and fifteen wounded, he said.
Another local official said six people had been killed. A resident contacted by AFP by phone also said that six civilians were killed by the jihadists, and others were missing.
While the ambush was going on, another group of gunmen in pick-up trucks and motorcycles rounded up cattle from Farabougou, another villager said.
An official at the security ministry said security forces were taking measures to free the village.
Mali has been struggling to end a jihadist insurgency that emerged in 2012 and has since spread into neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger.
Central Mali has become an epicenter of the conflict, with routine jihadist attacks, ethnic strife, and tit-for-tat killings among communities.”
US Sanctions on Iran Overused, Ineffective: Spokesman
https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/10/12/2367959/us-sanctions-on-iran-overused-ineffective-spokesman
“Washington’s maniacal use of sanctions against Iran has made the instrument worn-out and futile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran’s victory is too close as the US sanctions are at the brink of death.
Overusing any tool would erode it, he added, pointing to the US’ “maniacal” use of sanctions against Iran.
The spokesman said the sanctions have resulted in Iran’s trade with other countries in own currencies, adding that this is still the beginning of the road.
He also decried Europe’s failure to honor its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, saying Europe’s commitments have been held hostage to the US’ permission.
“Europe and some other parties have failed to honor their commitments. Whoever obeys the (US) sanctions would be an accomplice in the crimes against (Iranian) people,” he added.
The spokesman further reiterated that it makes no difference to Iran what the result of the US presidential election would be. “Anybody intruding our territory with any reason and any intention would receive a slap in the face. Our language is the language of might. Our language in dealing with Washington is not anything like Europe’s language of fear.”
He also warned the US that the strategic mistake in assessing Iran’s reaction to aggression would lead to a nightmare.
In September, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the promotion of economic ties with European countries, stressing that bilateral trade should not be affected by the illegal and unilateral US sanctions.
The president says the US sanctions have failed to prevent the Islamic Republic from making progress.”
Report: Houthi-controlled courts issued 200 death sentences since 2017
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201012-report-houthi-controlled-courts-issued-200-death-sentences-since-2017/
“Sam Organisation for Rights and Freedoms said courts controlled by the Houthis in Yemen have issued more than 200 death sentences against political and civil opponents including four journalists in politically motivated cases since 2017.
“When observing and following up on these the proceedings of these trials, that reached into these rulings, SAM found that they entirely violated the guarantees and standards of fair trials,” the Geneva- based watchdog said in a statement issued on the International Day Against the Death Penalty.
According to the statement: “There are more than 50 civilians are standing trials before flawed judiciary, where the judges playing roles in predetermined trials, including the rulings which are in clear contradiction with the laws.”
The organisation called for the judiciary to be liberated from the domination of the Houthis and apply fair trial guarantees and standards without discrimination, so that no one is unjustly and arbitrarily deprived of his life.
“Although the Houthis militia has not executed any of the aforementioned death sentences, it is necessary that the militia declares its commitment to stop manipulating the judiciary to terrorise and abuse its opponents,” it added.”
UNFPA: 20% of Yemen suffers from mental health disorders
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201012-unfpa-20-of-yemen-suffers-from-mental-health-disorders/
“Twenty per cent of people in Yemen suffer from mental health disorders, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Yemen said on Saturday.
In a statement issued on World Mental Health Day, the fund said the figures are based on a study conducted by the Family Counselling and Development Foundation in 2017, noting that the number is likely to have increased due to the coronavirus pandemic and nearly six years of war in the country.
The statement added that the proportion of psychiatrists per population is insufficient, while some of the few existing mental health services have closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It called for “greater investment” in mental health this year since it is “most timely and opportune for Yemen as humanitarian actors tackle the reduction of funding and challenges imposed by COVID-19 that are hampering the scaling up of quality and specialized services for mental health.”
Earlier on Saturday, the Media Officer at the UNFPA in Yemen, Fahimia Al-Fateh, said the fund needs $9 million for the women’s protection programme and psychological support programmes until the end of 2020, warning that if the funding is not received by the end of the month, 21 centres which specialise in psychological support or providing services will close in several governorates, including Ibb, Taiz and Hadhramout.”
Somalia: Turkish company to manage Port of Mogadishu
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201012-somalia-turkish-company-to-manage-port-of-mogadishu/
“A Turkish company on Monday signed a 14-year contract in Somalia to operate and rehabilitate the port of its capital city, Mogadishu, local media reported on Monday, reports Anadolu Agency.
“Turkish ports operator Albayrak and the federal government of Somalia have signed an agreement that grants the company a new 14-year concession to manage the Port of Mogadishu,” said Somalia National Television.
The inking of the deal came after days of discussions between the Albayrak Group and the Somali government on revenue sharing, among other key issues surrounding the deal.
Ports and Marine Transport Minister Mariam Aweys Jama told reporters that the company would help in rehabilitation and investment to upgrade the port’s facilities amid increasing trade through the key entryway into the Horn of Africa.
Somalia has benefited from aid in various sectors — mostly development and social projects – via the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Turkey has also constructed the Somalia Mogadishu Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan Training and Research Hospital and rebuilt the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.”

“Greece will build a new permanent camp on the island of Lesbos next year to replace the facility that burned down last month, the migration minister said Monday.
Contractors have also been selected for new camps on the islands of Samos, Kos and Leros, Migration Minister Notis Mitarachi told reporters.
“Our goal is to have the permanent facility operating in the summer of 2021” on Lesbos, he said.
“We are moving forward with an ambitious, EU-funded programme for closed camps… facilities where entry will be controlled… (camps) with NATO-style double enclosure.”
The minister added that the camps would have fire protection systems and “dignified” living conditions…”
Afghan police ordered to shoot criminals
https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/10/12/afghan-police-ordered-to-shoot-criminals
“Afghan authorities have for the first time instructed Kabul’s police force to fatally shoot armed criminals on sight, a sharp escalation in tactics aimed at stemming a surge in kidnappings, murders and other violent crimes.
Already stretched to breaking point after years of Taliban and jihadist attacks, the capital’s police are now grappling with a crime wave that is only expected to worsen as US and foreign forces pull out of Afghanistan.
Officers had until now only been allowed to fire their weapons when in a direct clash with criminals, but interior minister Massoud Andarabi late Sunday shifted to a shoot-to-kill order in a bid to control the escalation, his spokesman said.
“(Andarabi) said criminals should not roam freely in Kabul city, hit them and kill them,” Tariq Arian said.
Even low-level criminals and thieves in Kabul are often armed with guns or knives.
“Crime has really risen in Kabul these days. Our neighbourhood was safe but now almost every day and night, people get robbed, killed and kidnapped,” said Shafi, a shopkeeper in Kabul.
The Taliban, who are believed to have cells in sympathetic neighbourhoods, also vowed to “step up patrols”.
Aside from crime and a booming drugs trade, Afghan police respond to frequent attacks against government officials, peace activists and academics…”
