Reader’s Links for October 11, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Guilty and bad and wrong as this guy is I have a hard time really blaming him for his actions. This guy doesn’t have the IQ to hear and understand and process the news so he is a totally open vessel to whomever can get to him first and fool him into carrying water for them. He is, in short, a useful idiot. It’s not his fault that he’s dumb but it is someone’s fault that he’s being fooled into committing crimes by people with plenty-high IQs who know exactly what they are saying and doing. He may be the muscle, but it is Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters and Kamela Harris who are pulling the strings and are the ones who bear the actual guilt. I don’t like him very much, but I can’t really put the blame on him. “I’m a patsy!”, he should say. Just like Lee Harvey Oswald…

    • Pelosi, yes. She’s a crafty old witch.
Waters and Harris, no. They’re smart enough to play their parts, keep in character while they’re onstage, but they’re not writing the scripts.

  3. Turkey’s Military Presence in Qatar ‘Emergency’ for Gulf States, UAE Diplomat Says (sputniknews, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202010111080736043-turkeys-military-presence-in-qatar-emergency-for-gulf-states-uae-diplomat-says/

“Turkey’s military presence in Qatar contributes to negative polarization in the region and poses an emergency to the Gulf nations, Anwar Gargash, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs, said.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Doha earlier in the week to inaugurate a newly completed Turkish military base, where he said Turkish soldiers in the region contribute to regional stability.

“The Turkish military presence in the Arab Gulf is an emergency … It reinforces polarization, and it does not take into account the sovereignty of states and the interests of the Gulf countries and its peoples,” Gargash said in a tweet.
The top diplomat went on to dismiss Erdogan’s claims of contributing to regional stability as inconsistent with Turkey’s role in the region.

The military base hosting some 5,000 Turkish soldiers represents the increasing affinity between Ankara and Doha in recent years. The two countries back the same sides in the region’s conflicts in Syria and Libya.

Qatar has been subjected to a blockade from its Gulf neighbors since 2017 due to regional tensions and its geopolitical agenda.”

  4. UK urged to impose sanctions on ‘vicious’ China for human rights abuses (express, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1346233/china-uk-sanctions-human-rights-Xinjiang-Muslim-Uyghurs-Beijing-Winter-Olympics

“PARLIAMENT will debate hitting China with sanctions as concern soars for the fate of the Muslim Uyghur population.

The debate on Monday was triggered because more than 146,000 signed a petition calling for Britain to impose sanctions in response to human rights violations. China is accused of incarcerating up to one million people in so-called re-education camps in Xinjiang and there are reports of women being forcibly sterilised and widespread religious persecution. The economic superpower denies mistreatment of Muslims but the United States has levelled sanctions against senior Communist Party officials and condemned “forced labour, arbitrary mass detention, and forced population control, and attempts to erase their culture and Muslim faith”.

Pressure is now building on the UK to take action. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has not ruled out boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics in protest at the treatment of the Uyghurs.

Tomorrow’s debate will be led by Islwyn Labour MP Chris Evans…”

  5. Woke Survey Claims Fairy Tales Outdated, BBC Pushes New Fables About Gender Pay Gap (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/woke-survey-claims-fairy-tales-outdated-bbc-pushes-new-fables-about-gender-pay-gap/

“Pollsters are saying British parents think traditional fairy tales — particularly those that feature a “damsel in distress” — don’t align with modern sensibilities, as the BBC promotes a woke reimagining of the fables by former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq.

A YouGov survey of 500 parents with children aged between five and twelve-years-old apparently found that 58 per cent of parents felt fairy tales featuring a male character saving a female character were outdated. The same amount of parents thought the stories “under-represented” minorities.

Breaking down the poll by gender, 66 per cent of mothers found the damsel in distress story outdated, compared to 49 per cent of fathers.

The survey did find, however, that 81 per cent of parents still believe that the stories have worthwhile lessons for children to learn.

The BBC has used the survey to push a collection of updated fairy tales that will feature woke renditions of classic stories tackling left-wing fantasies such as the gender pay gap, penned by former BBC presenter Konnie Huq.

Huq, who was a presenter on the kids’ television show Blue Peter from 1997 until 2008, told the BBC that while parents think fairy tales are seen as valuable teaching tools, she co-authored Fearless Fairy Tales because “you don’t want your kids to be instilled with bad messages and values.”

She said the book will “work in conjunction with the traditional stories” but will inject “little tweaks and nods” to modern sensibilities.

Huq said that in her interpretation Sleeping Beauty is recast as ‘Sleeping Brainy’, and that Hansel and Gretel will see Gretel resent her brother for earning more in the sweet-shop, in deference to the widely debunked concept of the gender pay gap.

Huq claimed that she was inspired to pen the story by her experiences of being paid less than male counterparts on Blue Peter.

As a part of the Fearless Fairy Tales series, Huq, alongside James Kay, also wrote a reinterpretation of the Rumpelstiltskin story slamming President Donald Trump, entitled Trumplestiltskin: A cautionary tale of greed, gold and ridiculous hair.

According to the description on Amazon it tells the story of “a vain and gold-obsessed little man with tiny hands who will stop at nothing to become richer and more powerful. Laugh along as the famous fairy tale is turned inside-out in this hilarious cautionary tale about greed, gold and ridiculous hair.”

Huq said that she hopes her work will be entertaining and educational, saying that she sees her role as an author to use “stealth learning” tactics, likening it to “hidden vegetables in a pasta sauce”.”

  6. Almost Half of Swedes Concerned by Growing Crime and Insecurity (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/almost-half-of-swedes-concerned-by-growing-crime-and-insecurity/

“Around half of all Swedes are concerned with growing levels of crime and insecurity according to a new survey with young men aged 16 to 19 seeing the largest increase in concern.

The survey, which was conducted by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), revealed that 47 per cent of those who responded expressed concerns over growing levels of crime, up from 43 per cent the year prior.

Feelings of anxiety have increased in cities and remain high in smaller towns and rural areas, according to a report from broadcaster Sveriges Radio.

The largest segment of the population to see an increase in concern over crime is young men aged between 16 and 19-years-old. In 2017, around 22 per cent of young men said they were concerned about crime but in 2019 that number has increased to 32 per cent or nearly one in three.

Sofie Lifvin, an investigator at Brå, explained why there was more anxiety about crime while the proportion of victims has not seen a radical increase, saying: “This can be explained, among other things, by how the media reports on crime and how you think you would suffer if you were the victim of a crime.”

“A clear example of this difference between insecurity and vulnerability is that older people are more worried about being subjected to crime, but at the same time we can see that it is older people who are exposed to the least,” Lifvin suggested.

While overall crime rates have remained somewhat level in recent years, according to a Crime Harm Index (CHI) published by the Cambridge Journal of Evidence-Based Policing earlier this year the number of serious crimes has drastically increased since around 2006.

Earlier this year, for example, Swedish television broadcaster SVT noted that despite police anti-gang operations and the Wuhan virus outbreak, shootings across Sweden continue to rise. Many of the shootings are linked to gang violence.”

  7. Finnish Police Bust Huge Sex Trafficking Ring Led by Migrants (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/finnish-police-bust-huge-sex-trafficking-ring-led-by-migrants/

“Police in Finland have busted a sex trafficking ring led by migrants that operated in at least twelve major cities and trafficked women from Romania, forcing them to work as prostitutes.

Investigators arrested five men and one woman in Finland this week in connection to the sex trafficking network and another man has been held in custody in Romania. Several hundred thousand euros have also been seized as part of the operation and police are investigating possible money laundering operations as well.

According to a report from Finnish broadcaster Yle, the network operated in Helsinki, Turku, Espoo, Tampere, Oulu, and many other major cities across the country.

The victims are all said to ber Romanian citizens lured to Finland by fake job offers, although the broadcaster claims some of the victims knew what sort of work they would be engaging in when they reached Finland.

Detective Inspector Jukka Larkio, who led the investigation, said many of the women were forced to work without being paid at all, while others received only 50 to 80 per cent of what they were promised by the sex traffickers.

“Trafficking in human beings and pimping has been going on in different cities for a short period of time. The same people have been placed in the same apartments usually for less than a month. The suspects have had a network covering almost the entire country. Women have been moved to apartments in different cities,” Larkio said.

Migrant sex trafficking and migrants being forced into prostitution has become common in many countries in Europe in recent years, from Nigerian mafia gangs in Italy to Eastern European gangs in the United Kingdom.

In April of this year, a Britain-based gang said to be comprised of Chinese and Romanian nationals was subject to a police raid that saw a million pounds, luxury cars and watches and other items confiscated by investigators.

The victims of the sex trafficking network were also said to be mostly Chinese and Romanian nationals.”

  8. Muslim Woman Trashes Liquor Section of French Supermarket for a Second Time (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/muslim-woman-trashes-liquor-section-of-french-supermarket-for-a-second-time/

“A Muslim woman in the French city of Reims ransacked the liquor area of a supermarket for the second time in under a month, causing even more property damage than the first incident.

The first attack took place on September 16th at a Spar supermarket in the Croix Rouge area of the city at around 6 p.m. and saw the woman smash bottles of liquor before she was eventually arrested by police and taken for psychiatric evaluation.

On Thursday, the woman returned to the same supermarket and began again smashing hundreds of liquor bottles and allegedly explaining to witnesses that her religion, Islam, forbids alcohol. She also said she suffered from mental problems, L’Union reports.

“I was outside the door when I heard the sound of broken glass,” local resident Salah Byar said.

“I turned around and saw this woman throwing bottles everywhere. I wanted to come in to calm her down but an employee asked me out because I was in danger of getting hit.”

Another witness added: “She also told us that she broke the bottles because her religion forbids drinking alcohol. It’s nonsense to say that. We are not in a Muslim country but I did not dare to make the remark to her because I was afraid that it would make her angry when we had managed to calm her down.”

The two attacks come two years after a man and his son were beaten by a group of men in the Belgian city of Antwerp after sitting down on the terrace of a Halal restaurant while drinking beer. Both of the men required hospitalisation after the attack.

In 2016, a similar attack took place in France when a group of Muslim men attacked a waitress in a restaurant for serving alcohol during Ramadan, despite the fact the waitress herself was not a Muslim.”

  9. Marine Le Pen Rejects New EU Migrant Pact As ‘Suicide of Europe’ (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/marine-le-pen-rejects-new-eu-migrant-pact-as-suicide-of-europe/

“French populist National Rally (RN) leader Marine Le Pen has launched a campaign against the new European Union migration and asylum pact, stating it will lead to the “suicide” of Europe.

The new proposal by the European Commission to radically reform the bloc’s asylum policies away from the previous Dublin agreement was put forward at the end of last month and, according to Le Pen, could see as many as 60 to 70 million migrants settling in the EU in the coming years.

“It is an organized plan for the submersion of Europe and the nations that make it up,” Le Pen said Friday at the RN headquarters in the city of Nanterre, broadcaster TV5Monde reports.

Le Pen went on to state that the new pact “will cause the ruin of our social systems, an increase in unemployment, a housing crisis, an increase in delinquency and communitarian conflicts, the advance of Islamism and terrorist risks and the questioning of the values of our civilization.”

She slammed the European Union, stating that it had “entrusted the keys to the Middle East gate to Turkey, which is now blackmailing us in submersion. Today, it is about to open the doors of the House Europe on the Third World. Let’s take back the keys to Europe and France!”

Le Pen said that she, along with other members do the populist Identity and Democracy (ID) group in the European Parliament, would be campaigning against the new migrant pact, and will launch a petition with the goal of getting around a million signatures.

The comments come after the Visegrád group of Central European nations — Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland — also spoke out against the new pact in late September.

“‘Allocation’ or ‘quota’, to change the name, is not enough. Hungary is against it. The basic approach is still unchanged. They [the Commission] would like to manage migration, and not to stop the migrants. The Hungarian position is stop the migrants,” Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán said.

“We have to stop migration and the quotas and relocation. These rules are not acceptable for us,” Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš added.”

  10. BREAKING: Following the attempted bomb attack on a German regional train, Merkel’s mainstream media rewrite the terrorist, a Syrian asylum seeker, as a resident of the German Sauerland region

Attempted bombing attack committed by a Syrian “refugee” (Tweet above). All the more surprising what regional media from North Rhine-Westphalia made of the police report: They informed that the perpetrator was a “young man from Lüdenscheid”; used not only by public broadcaster WDR and various Cologne daily newspapers. The headline already mentioned the “inhabitant of the German region of Sauerland”, who has now confessed to having placed the explosive device in the toilet of a regional railway.

According to the media, his motive is “disturbing” and “bitter”: he had acted “out of dissatisfaction with his precarious social situation”, according to the police; with his act he had “wanted to attract public attention”. All of this would have been quite harmless – had it not been for former President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution Hans-Georg Maaßen, who spoiled the beautiful idyll of the German bomber with some background information:

  11. UK -WHO Covid expert: Lockdowns can only delay virus infections

Professor David Nabarro, World Health Organization special envoy on Covid-19, tells Andrew Neil that lockdowns should not be the primary means of controlling coronavirus.

He argues that closing down economies and introducing social restrictions are only useful to buy governments time to improve testing, treatment methods and organisation.

    • IDF opens two coronavirus wards in Haifa’s Rambam hospital

The military opened two coronavirus wards in Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center on Sunday, marking the first time the Israel Defense Forces will provide medical care to Israeli civilians in the country’s 72-year history.

“The IDF has never treated civilians, even in the hard days of the 1950s,” said the military’s chief medical officer, Brig. Gen. Alon Glasberg.

According to the military, roughly 100 military medical personnel will take part in this effort — dubbed Operation Tribe of Brothers — including doctors, nurses, medics and others from the IDF Medical Corps.

The move came as the country’s hospitals were struggling to provide care for the growing number of moderate and severe coronavirus cases — due largely to manpower shortages — following a large outbreak of the disease throughout the country in recent weeks. As of Sunday morning, 1,571 coronavirus patients were receiving treatment in hospitals. Of them, 820 were in serious condition and 304 had moderate symptoms, according to the Health Ministry.

The military announced its plan to open the two wards, which will treat dozens of coronavirus patients, nearly two weeks ago. Since then the soldiers taking part have been training for the operation, learning how to treat the coronavirus and work in the full-body protective gear needed to avoid infection.

“The training included theoretical and practical content that prepared the teams for treating the coronavirus patients who come to wards in the most professional and humane ways possible,” the military said.

  14. USA _ Congress Moves to Subsidize Liberal News Media

If one good thing has come of the year 2020, it is that now no sentient person takes the liberal news media at face value. Who could forget “journalists” like Omar Jimenez and Ali Velshi standing in front of burning buildings as they brazenly lied about “mostly peaceful” Marxist riots? Big Media being definitively exposed as a propaganda operation will accelerate the welcome collapse of its business model.

However, leftists reject free will. They don’t need your voluntary patronage to keep afloat — not if they can beseech their god Big Government to take your money by force:

H.R. 7640: The Local Journalism Sustainability Act was introduced in Congress, backed by a coalition that includes Report for America and the National Newspaper Association, and would offer tax credits for newspaper subscriptions and tax credits for paying the salaries of the radical activists working there. There’s also a $5,000 tax credit for advertising in newspapers.

If this flies, but fails to keep the dying industry breathing, direct cash subsidies will soon follow.

The word “local” is used in the Orwellian sense. This is a bailout for Big Media.

While Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, who introduced the bill, claims that it will fund “local newspapers”, those local newspapers are largely owned by national operations and hedge funds. While actual local businesses go out of business, Democrats are proposing a bailout for media investors.

The worst of the worst are pushing this, including representatives of McClatchy, USA Today, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Pernicious social engineering firms such as the MacArthur Foundation and the Ford Foundation also lend their support. The bill’s many sponsors include left-wing Congressmen Ted Lieu, Raul Grijalva, Eric Swalwell, and Andre Carson.

The Local Journalism Sustainability Act is testing the business model for converting the media into a bunch of political non-profits backed by taxpayers and lefty donors. …

As the Left sets up new complex interplays between corporate media and its non-profits, the line between journalism and political advocacy blurs into a strange twilight zone in which non-profits subsidize media operations and taxpayers subsidize corporate chains as if they were non-profits, while creating something that looks very much like a state media operation.

It’s not Soviet communism. But the integrity of journalism will be the same.

A majority of Americans don’t like and don’t trust the media. They’ve divested from it.

That’s why coercive funding is required. People don’t know what’s good for them. Only the experts do. By “the experts,” I mean the people with a seat at the Democrat table.

Imagine a world where the only media outlets that can compete are subsidized by the bottomless pockets of the deficit-spending federal government. Every channel would feature the pretentious moonbat pabulum that characterizes public broadcasting. Liberals would love it.

    • Is Azerbaijan-Armenia war another blow to Iran?

In the past, foreign conflicts have helped the regime in Tehran distract the public. But could this conflict provoke in Iranian Azeris a feeling of solidarity with their Azeri co-ethnics across the border in Independent Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijanis (“Azeris”) are Turks who speak a language that is almost completely intelligible to Turks in Turkey. But, unlike the rest of the Turkish/Turkic world, which is Sunni, Iranian Azeris are Shi’ite. 3/4 of the total Azeri population in the world live in northwest Iran, just across the border from the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan. 80% of Tehran’s population either speaks Azeri or is of Azeri origin.

Most Soviet Azeri intellectuals believed that when they created their own country, Azeris living in Iran would clamor to join them. But Iranian Azaris wanted to remain part of Iran and suggested that the former Soviet Azeris should also join Iran, possibly giving the Azaris greater political leverage in that country.

Many international actors have a stake in the outcome of the Armenian-Azeri conflict. Russia supports Armenia. India also supports Armenia, in part because Turkey is training radical Indian Muslim clerics and sending them to fan the flames of Hindi-Muslim tensions. Sunni Pakistan supports Shi’ite Azerbaijan, in part because of its historically close ties with Turkey – since Pakistan’s upper class is largely of Central Asian Turkic origin.

  20. Mob Swarms Police Station with Iron Bars, Fireworks (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/mob-swarms-police-station-iron-bars-fireworks/

“Dozens of people attacked a police station outside Paris early Sunday with blasts of fireworks and damaged several police cars, officials said. No-one was injured.

It was the latest action among numerous attacks against police officers, and sometimes firefighters, that Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin says are a sign that France is growing “savage.”

Last week, two police officers in civilian clothes were pulled from their vehicle in a Paris suburb and shot multiple times with their own guns. One officer remains in serious condition.

In the early hours of Sunday, a large gang showered the police station in a housing project in Champigny-sur-Marne, east of Paris, with fireworks and other projectiles, Paris police headquarters, in charge of the region, said in a tweet. Attackers also used metal bars to smash five police cars, the newspaper Le Parisien reported, quoting police officials who estimated that there were 40 attackers. Three windows of the station were broken.

The attack with fireworks lit up the area. Fireworks have been increasingly used by gangs to head off police in neighbourhoods known for drug trafficking. Firefighters on rescue missions also come under attack.

“The little bosses impress no one and don’t discourage us in our fight against drugs,” the interior minister tweeted, saying an investigation was underway. It wasn’t immediately clear if there had been arrests.

Investigators were still trying to find the three men who shot two police officers last week after pulling them from their car and disarming them in an industrial section of the town of Herblay, in the Val d’Oise north-west of Paris.”

  21. Swedish Police Official: Drug Crime Linked to 98 Per Cent of Bombings (breitbart, Oct 11, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/11/swedish-police-official-drug-crime-linked-to-98-per-cent-of-bombings/

“Swedish police chief Sven Holgersson, who serves as area manager of the city of Helsingborg, has claimed that as many as 98 per cent of the bombings in the city are linked to drug trafficking.

Helsingborg has seen an average of one explosion per week from September of last year until February of 2020, and while the number of bombings has decreased since February, police are still finding problems with investigating and prosecuting those behind the bombings.

“I say that 98 per cent of the explosions are due to drugs and money. You start trading drugs and you owe money. If you don’t pay, it blows up,” Holgersson told Swedish broadcaster SVT earlier this week.

Helsingborg also saw one of the largest explosions in recent years in Sweden when a police station in the city was targetted with a bomb that caused destruction to the facade of the building in 2017.

The attack was labelled an attack on democracy by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven at the time. “The bombing of a police station in Helsingborg is extremely serious. An attack on the police is, in the long run, an attack on our democracy,” he said.

Helsinborg is not the only city to see bombings and explosions recently. This week in the county of Jönköping, three men were arrested with one of the men not only having links to criminal gangs but was also found in possession of explosive material.

Last year, Ylva Ehrlin, an analyst at Sweden’s National Bomb Guard, spoke out about the wave of explosions saying, “We have ten million people in Sweden, but I have not found any equivalent of this level of explosions in any industrialised country.”

“What is dangerous is that the user of the explosives probably does not possess the knowledge of how dangerous they are and how sensitive the substances are,” she said.

In 2019, Sweden saw a total of at least 236 explosions and bombings, up from 163 incidents in 2018.”

    • China setting up missile launch sites in POK

KT NEWS SERVICE. Dated: 10/9/2020 9:51:37 AM

NEW DELHI, Oct 8: The Indian intelligence agencies are worried about the Chinese troops not vacating their posts from Ladakh but also conducting joint patrols with Pakistan’s Army in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and helping in setting up multiple surface-to-air missile launch sites and the missile defence system in the region.
Increased Chinese air activities have also been observed in PoK coinciding with the military standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh, the intelligence sources said.
Among the military infrastructure projects going on at several PoK locations with China’s help, “construction for the installation of a surface-to-air missile defence system is being carried out at Pauli Pir near Lasadanna Dhok of PoK”, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) official said.
He said the intelligence report had also spoken of joint reconnaissance exercises between Chinese and Pakistani troops in forward PoK locations such as Deolian and Jura. “We have noticed increased Chinese air activities in PoK, with Chinese refuelling aircraft having landed at Skardu in PoK. The Skardu airbase is about 100km from the Leh airbase on the Indian side,” he said.
“In the past, Pakistan had conducted joint air exercises with China at the Skardu airbase.” A defence ministry official said that Chinese presence in PoK was not new.

  28. Hungarian think tank: EU should drop anti-European and anti-Hungarian agenda of George Soros
    https://rmx.news/article/article/hungarian-think-tank-eu-should-drop-anti-european-and-anti-hungarian-agenda-of-george-soros

“The oldest conservative think tank in Hungary, the Századvég Foundation, is calling up upon the European Commission and the European Parliament to preserve the sovereignty of member states and take measures against interference from third-party actors like billionaire financier George Soros.

“George Soros, Global Board Chair of the Open Society Foundation, called on the decision-makers in Brussels to punish Hungary in financial terms, to set an example with one of the independent sovereign EU member states,” wrote the Századvég Foundation in a letter to the European Commission. The foundation is pointing to Soros’s recent remarks in which he said, “I call on the EU to make Hungary a test case,” along with a call to cut funding to Hungary.”

The letter points to Soros’s international activities, including his active financial support from the Black Lives Matter movement and Antifa groups in the United States, as evidence of him supporting terrorist groups. Antifa has recently been designated a terrorist group by Homeland Security.

“In our view, the moves of the speculator, who has close connections with the left-wing in the United States and can be linked to domestic terrorist organizations in his country, can be considered as an interference in the internal affairs of the Community and the sovereign states constituting it,” the foundation writes.

The Századvég Foundation’s letter points to the close connections Soros enjoys with EU officials, which have included dozens of face-to-face meetings with top EU leaders over the years.

The foundation is concerned about the alarming erosion of sovereignty in the EU and further attempts to create a centralized superstate that ignores the EU’s founding treaties and erases democratic decision-making at the level of the nation state:

“As a starting point, it is important to note that Articles 4 and 5 of the Treaty on the European Union set out the principles of the division of competences between the Community and the Member States, thereby designating the political and legal room for maneuvering of nation-states. The law provides that all competences not conferred on the EU in the Treaties, are vested in the Member States, emphasizing in particular that the protection of national security is the sole responsibility of each Member State.”

According to the foundation, the power afforded nation states as enshrined in the TEU allows national governments can make a legitimate claim against foreign interference, which does not just apply to rival nation states such as China and Russia, but also powerful political actors such as Soros:

“Nor should we forget that, on several occasions in recent years, the EU has spoken out against Russia’s intervention attempts. According to a European Parliament resolution adopted in 2019, the ‘danger of Russian propaganda’ is alarming, whereas a report delivered by the European Commission pointed out that ‘the European elections were not entirely free of misleading information’, with external and internal actors related to Russian resources in the background. In light of this, the question can rightly be asked why the EU bodies are more lenient with George Soros and the associated lobbying organizations’ invasive activities aiming at manipulating domestic political relations.

The EU is increasingly ignoring the national competencies of nation states and ignoring the provisions of the founding treaties to protect the sovereignty of nation states. A number of EU officials have directed their attacks at Hungary and Hungarian citizens, such as those carried out by Dutch ME Judith Sargentini, Dutch MEP and German MEP Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

The letter then calls on the EU to “dissent from the anti-European and anti-Hungarian manifestations of the Global Board Chair of the Open Society Foundation as soon as possible.””
