Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

UK Considering Floating Asylum Centres in Old Ferries, Sending Migrants to Remote Islands: Reports (breitbart, Oct 2, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/02/uk-considering-floating-asylum-centres-in-old-ferries-sending-migrants-to-remote-islands-reports/
“The British government is said to be considering off-shore asylum centres on old ferries, or even sending claimants to remote islands in the South Atlantic.
The government is reportedly considering turning retired ferries into floating asylum centres off of the British coast to hold would-be refugees until their claims are assessed, according to documents seen by The Times.
The newspaper of record has also been told the government was considering putting asylum seekers out in the North Sea on disused oil platforms, but ministers reportedly considered that option a “no go”. Putting migrants on ships, however, was considered the more realistic option.
Downing Street is also said to be brainstorming sending migrants to Moldova, Morocco, and Papua New Guinea, according to documents seen by The Guardian; however, those proposals had all been dismissed due to logistical issues or regional political instability.
The South Atlantic islands Ascension and St Helena, which are British overseas territories, are also options, according to leaked documents seen by the Financial Times. Housing migrants far from the United Kingdom, again, is reportedly considered less favourable options due to the cost and legal ramifications.
The latter options are similar to those in force in Australia, where migrants are housed in Pacific Ocean islands until an asylum decision is made. Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, whose government implemented a strict policy of turning migrant boats back and processing claims off-shore, reportedly recently met with Home Secretary Priti Patel. The measures would go further than Australia — which intercepts migrants before they reach the antipodean nation — by relocating migrants to the reception centres after they have already landed on British soil.
The Home Office’s top civil servant, Matthew Rycroft, would not comment on the individual leaks, but told the Commons Public Accounts Committee on Thursday that while “no decision has been taken” on whether disused ferries would become floating asylum centres, “everything is on the table” when improving the UK’s asylum system.
Mr Rycroft said: “We’ve been looking at what a whole host of other countries do in order to bring innovation into our own system.
“No final proposals have been put to ministers or to anyone else.”
A Friday report noted the repeated leaks on the various designs and plans for illegal migrants were the visible ripples in the water being caused by a “war” between Patel and the Foreign Office, with accusations made that civil servants were deliberately leaking “bizarre and unworkable” schemes in order to undermine the Tory politician. The Times reported the remarks of an unnamed Conservative MP who said of the ongoing spat being played out in the pages of the nation’s newspapers:
“It’s pretty obvious what’s happened here. By coming up with bizarre and unworkable policy options, then leaking them, the Foreign Office is attempting to discredit any and every solution to a problem which my constituents write to me about daily.
“The Foreign Office’s idea of a crisis is receiving a strongly worded letter from a wacky UN special rapporteur.”
At least 7,000 illegals have crossed the English Channel in boats from France to the UK since the beginning of this year, with September alone eclipsing arrivals for the whole of 2019. Home Secretary Priti Patel is coming under increased pressure over her failure to stop the boats, with illegal aliens arriving at such a level that two former military bases and reportedly some 90 hotels are being used to house them.
Conservative MP for Gravesham Adam Holloway said the Home Office was “completely right” to be considering such options which would work as “some sort of deterrent” to illegals wishing to come to the UK to seek asylum.
“We need to break the link in people’s minds that if you get to Britain, you’re going to stay in Britain, you’re going to stay in a hotel, and you’re going to be accommodated,” Mr Holloway told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
Home Secretary Priti Patel is also considering post-Brexit legal changes where migrants who enter the UK via Europe will have their claims rejected.
“If you come through the EU, an asylum claim would be inadmissible because you should have claimed it in the first country you entered,” a source told The Telegraph on Wednesday.”

Lawyer Linked to Swedish Migrant Clan Gangs Threatened with Expulsion from Bar Association (breitbart, Oct 2, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/02/lawyer-linked-swedish-migrant-clan-gangs-threatened-expulsion-bar-association/
“Gothenburg lawyer Edip Samuelsson, who has represented local migrant clan gangs, has been threatened with expulsion from the Bar Association after allegedly leaking restricted information from detainees.
Samuelsson, who has represented members of Gothenburg’s notorious Ali Khan clan in several cases, was fined 50,000 Swedish kronor (£4,324/$5,580) and given a warning after being found to have violated legal practice rules for leaking information.
According to a report from Göteborgs Posten, the Chancellor of Justice is appealing the ruling and taking it to the Supreme Court to have Samuelsson expelled from the Bar Association altogether.
The Chancellor of Justice has claimed that the actions of Samuelsson abused his position of privilege and “seriously breached his duties as a lawyer by passing on information contrary to restrictions communicated to his clients”.
Klaudia Mathé, a prosecutor at the Swedish Economic Crime Agency, has also reported Samuelsson for potentially interfering with prosecutions.
“It is, of course, serious to convey information from detainees which have not been agreed with the prosecutor whether it can interfere with or destroy the preliminary investigation. There is a reason why they are in restricted terms,” Mathé said.
Samuelsson’s clients, the Ali Khan clan, are notorious in the city of Gothenburg, with nearly all of the male members having criminal records, according to a report published last year by Expressen.
The newspaper claims the clan is linked to murders, extortion, and other acts of violence including intimidating witnesses into silence at gunpoint.
Erik Nord, police chief in Greater Gothenburg, expressed disgust last year after it was revealed that members of the Ali Khan clan had received more than a million kronor in government grants and nearly a million from the city of Gothenburg.
“I think most people find this downright disgusting that we are tax-financing criminal networks. It’s got to stop. This indignation must stop,” Nord said last year.
Earlier this week, Gothenburg police expressed concern over growing violence between other migrant groups in the centre of the city.
Gangs of Syrian, Afghani, and Somali migrants are said to have engaged in several fights over the drug trade on the streets of the city and police fear if they acquire firearms, the situation could escalate.”
Wife of German rapper convicted of terrorism charges (abcnews, Oct 2, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/wife-german-rapper-convicted-terrorism-charges-73382949
“The widow of a German-born rapper who joined the Islamic State extremist group in Syria and was killed in an airstrike was herself convicted Friday of membership in a terrorist organization.
The Hamburg state court sentenced Omaima A., 36, to three years in prison, the dpa news agency reported.
The Hamburg-born woman of Tunisian heritage, whose last name wasn’t provided in line with German privacy laws, was also convicted of failing to properly care for her children, weapons violations and aiding in the enslavement of a Yazidi girl.
The woman followed her first husband to Syria in 2015 and lived in the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa with their three children, according to the court.
After her husband was killed in 2015, she married his friend, German rapper Denis Cuspert, who went by the stage name Deso Dogg before giving up the profession and joining IS.
Cuspert, who toured in the U.S. in 2006, lent his voice to record anthems for the militants to use in recruiting videos they circulated online.
The U.S. government designated him a “global terrorist.” The Pentagon initially said in 2015 that Cuspert was killed in an airstrike, but withdrew the claim the following year. In 2018, Islamic State announced the Cuspert had been killed in an airstrike in Syria.
By that time, Omaima A. had already returned to Germany.
Germany has been aggressively prosecuting both men and women who have returned after fighting with the Islamic State group or other extremist groups in the Middle East.
On Friday, federal prosecutors said a German woman had been arrested at Frankfurt airport on her return from Syria on allegations she was a member of IS.
The suspect, identified only as Kim A., faces charges of membership in a terrorist organization and other crimes.
She’s alleged to have traveled to Syria with her husband, Onur E., in 2014 where both joined the Islamic State.
Onur E. is said to have undergone military training and then fought against Syrian government troops with the group. He is also alleged to have taught Kim A. how to use an assault rifle.
The two were given homes to live in that the Islamic State had seized from their rightful owners.
A. fled Syria in 2016, and returned to Germany on Thursday on a flight from Turkey, authorities said.
It was not clear what happened to her husband.”
Turkey: UN registers maritime deal reached with Tripoli (abcnews, Oct 2, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-registers-maritime-deal-reached-tripoli-73382812
“The United Nations has registered a maritime delineation deal reached between Turkey and Libya’s U.N.-backed government, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced Friday.
Last year, Turkey and the Government of National Accord, or GNA, which is based in Tripoli, reached a memorandum of understanding demarcating their maritime boundaries. The agreement, which would allow them to lay claim to large areas of the Mediterranean Sea and potential energy deposits, was denounced by Greece, Cyprus and other nations.
“The U.N. has registered the maritime jurisdiction deal as agreed between Turkey and Libya,” the ministry announced on its Twitter account. ” Our deep ties with Libya based on over 500 years of history will continue to strengthen.”
Greece and Cyprus have protested the deal, which added tension to an ongoing dispute over oil-and-gas drilling rights in the eastern Mediterranean.
Turkey and the GNA also signed a security and military cooperation agreement last year. Turkey earlier this year sent troops, Syrian mercenaries and other military support that helped the GNA repel an assault by the rival, eastern-based Libyan National Army and shifted the tide of the conflict.
“We will continue to provide training and advisory services to the U.N.-recognized, legitimate government of Libya,” the ministry said.”

Ethiopian migrants held in Saudi Arabia call it ‘hellish’ (abcnews, Oct 2, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/ethiopian-migrants-held-saudi-arabia-call-hellish-73381374
“From a filthy cell in Saudi Arabia, the Ethiopian migrant spoke on a smuggled phone, fearing to give his name. Some 300 countrymen are detained with him, he said. And no one knows when Ethiopia’s government might bring them home.
“We are detained in a very inhumane condition, sleeping on waste overflowing from a nearby toilet. We really want to go back home but no one is assisting us, including Ethiopian officials,” he told The Associated Press from a detention center outside the Saudi capital, Riyadh. “We are beaten every day, and our only crime was seeking a better life in a foreign land.”
New details are emerging of the squalid detention conditions facing thousands of migrants from Ethiopia — men, women and children — some who were chased across the border from Yemen into Saudi Arabia this year amid gunfire because of coronavirus fears.
A new report released Friday by Amnesty International describes widespread abuses in Saudi detention facilities, including beatings and electrocutions. Detainees described being chained together in pairs and being forced to use cell floors as toilets.
“Surrounded by death and disease, the situation is so dire that at least two people have attempted to take their own lives,” Amnesty researcher Marie Forestier says in the report. “Pregnant women, babies and small children are held in these same appalling conditions, and three detainees said they knew of children who had died.”
The abuses highlight one of the most popular, and most dangerous, migrant routes in the world. The Saudi government did not immediately comment.
Thousands of Ethiopians cross into Saudi Arabia every year after a journey across the Red Sea or Gulf of Aden from Somalia or Djibouti and through conflict-torn Yemen, looking for better lives.
Amnesty International said thousands of Ethiopian migrants had been working in northern Yemen, earning money to pay for their passage to Saudi Arabia. “When the COVID-19 pandemic escalated, Houthi authorities began ordering migrant workers to go to the border, where they reportedly became caught in crossfire between Saudi and Houthi forces,” the new report says.
The International Organization for Migration says some 2,000 Ethiopians are stranded on the Yemeni side of the border without food, water or health care.
Now migrants say they are held in life-threatening conditions.
“I wouldn’t have left my country had I known this hellish condition would await me,” another detained migrant told the AP. “I had some suicidal thoughts in the past. It is just unbearable, especially during those very hot days, since we don’t have an air conditioner. And they beat us with electric cords whenever we complain. And they took all our money and cell phones.”
He said he was detained nine months ago because his Saudi residence card had expired. “The only thing I want now is to return to Ethiopia, but that’s just a dream for now,” he said. The detainees spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear for their safety.
The COVID-19 pandemic has complicated their repatriation, with Ethiopian authorities saying they don’t have the quarantine capacity to handle the return of so many people at once, which could overwhelm the health system.
Ethiopia’s state minister at the foreign ministry, Tsion Teklu, told the AP that up to 16,000 Ethiopians are estimated to be held in Saudi prisons. She said some 4,000 have been repatriated since April.
“We are now working to repatriate 2,000 more migrants by bringing around 300 of them every week,” she said, adding that Ethiopia has repatriated some 400,000 in recent years. “The problem is compounded with the fact that some of our citizens that are repatriated are re-trafficked.”
In a separate statement Friday, the foreign ministry noted reported abuses in Saudi detention and said authorities are working together to confirm them and improve conditions.
The ministry also said migrants suffer sexual abuse, torture, dehydration and hunger on their monthslong journey to Saudi Arabia, and “this makes the repatriation process even more complicated as the psychosocial support is intense. The reintegration process also needs enormous resources as returnees come back home empty-handed.”
Amnesty International urged more and speedier efforts, with outside help.
“If quarantine spaces remain a significant obstacle, other governments and donors must support Ethiopia to increase the number of spaces to ensure migrants can leave these hellish conditions as soon as possible,” Forestier said. “Nothing, not even a pandemic, can justify the continued arbitrary detention and abuse of thousands of people.””
Swiss arrest 4 suspected of ties to Islamic State, al-Qaida
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/swiss-arrest-suspected-ties-islamic-state-al-qaida-73382449
“Authorities in Switzerland say they have arrested four people on suspicion of having ties to the Islamic State group and al-Qaida.
The federal prosecutor’s office said police searched three houses in the western canton (state) of Fribourg early Friday as part of two criminal investigations into alleged extremist activity.
The suspects are alleged to have violated Swiss law banning involvement with al-Qaida, IS and related organizations.
Prosecutors said the four people detained are also suspected of having “supported or participated in a criminal organization.”
They identified the four suspects only as a 28-year-old Kosovar woman, a 29-year-old Macedonian, a 26-year-old Kosovar man and a 34-year-old Swiss-Kosovar dual national.
“As they had been in contact with each other, the house searches and arrests were all carried out at the same time,” prosecutors said.
Further information, including which of the suspects had ties to which group, wasn’t immediately available.”

Armenia has put national army units on full combat readiness and Turkey says it’s standing by to offer assistance to Azerbaijan.
Six days after the outbreak of fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the breakaway region of NagornoKarabakh, there is little sign of hostilities ceasing.
Women line up to join Armenian army
Dozens of Armenian women reportedly turned up to an army recruitment center on Thursday, wanting to join the fight against Azerbaijan in NagornoKarabakh.
Television cameras at the center in the capital, Yerevan concentrated on several young women who were seemingly applying for military roles as the conflict in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region continues.
Harutyun Hakobyan, a police lieutenant colonel, said that 98 women had already been sent to the frontline and that nearly 400 women will eventually be deployed.
Violence broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday. The region is within Azerbaijan but is controlled by ethnic Armenian forces backed by the Armenia’s government.
Armenian and Azerbaijani forces blame each other for continuing attacks which have killed dozens so far.
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Armenia says it faces joint aggression by Azerbaijan and Turkey
An Armenian media outlet released on Friday footage showing the aftermath of shelling in what is said to be Stepankert, the capital of the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan said that the country faces joint aggression by both Azerbaijan and Turkey.
“The aggressive joint actions of Azerbaijan and Turkey and the use of foreign terrorist fighters have been undermining regional security and peace, significantly raising the risks of a fully-fledged war.” Naghdalyan said.
Fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenian forces continued for a sixth day in the heaviest clashes since the 1990s around the disputed region with both sides claiming to have inflicted significant damage on the other.

Nepal is walking a tightrope between India and China
India-China tensions are complicating a simmering political crisis in Kathmandu.
…On May 8, India inaugurated a link road built in a disputed territory which falls near a strategic three-way junction with Nepal and China. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was already facing multiple domestic political challenges, adopted a defiant stance against New Delhi and deemed the new road an attack on Nepal’s sovereignty.
He issued a new map which places the disputed region within Nepal’s borders and swiftly passed it through both houses of the parliament. His ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) also pushed an amendment to the country’s citizenship law that requires foreign women marrying Nepali men (most of whom are Indian) to wait for seven years for naturalisation.…
In 2016, China and Nepal concluded a transport agreement that gives Kathmandu access to four Chinese eastern seaports. While India’s Calcutta port is closest to Nepal by distance, Chinese rail service to Tibet, which borders Nepal, provides it with maritime access that may be shorter in time and more competitive in cost than Calcutta.
In 2017, Nepal officially joined the Belt and Road Initiative, making clear to India, a lead opponent of the BRI, that it is now a country with options.…
Allying with Beijing also requires ritualistic professions of agreement on its “core interests” and policing of Chinese national migrants and refugees, such as Uighurs and Tibetans. Notably, Nepal recently backed China’s new national security law for Hong Kong.
Neither China nor India are benign, altruistic powers. Nepali leaders appear to be aware of that. Even if Prachanda comes to power with some help and support from New Delhi, he is unlikely to push away Beijing’s hand.…

Erdogan Says He’s Hoping Azerbaijan Will Continue Karabakh Offensive, ‘Free’ Region (sputniknews, Oct 2, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/world/202010021080642716-erdogan-says-hes-hoping-azerbaijan-will-continue-karabakh-offensive-free-region-/
“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged Baku to continue to pursue its offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh to a triumphant conclusion.
“Azerbaijan has already liberated a vast territory. I hope it will keep fighting until all its lands in Karabakh are freed,” Erdogan said in an address broadcast on Twitter on Friday.
The Turkish president noted that Turkey supports “friendly and fraternal Azerbaijan in all possible ways,” and would continue to do so in the future.
No Peace Without Turkish Withdrawal
Earlier, in an interview with the Globe and Mail, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Turkey’s exit from the southern Caucasus would be a necessary condition for peace in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pashinyan added that it was now up to Turkey’s NATO allies to provide an explanation as to why Ankara is involved in the Karabakh conflict.
“Turkey’s military personnel and the Turkish armed forces are directly engaged in the hostilities. Turkey’s NATO allies must explain why these [Turkish] F-16 jets are shelling towns and villages in Nagorno-Karabakh and killing civilian populations,” he said, referring to reports from earlier this week that an Armenian air force jet had downed a Turkish fighter. Turkey denied those reports.
Pashinyan suggested that Western countries should rethink the sale of arms to Turkey amid reports that they were being used by the Azerbaijani side in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In a series of tweets, Pashinyan also accused Ankara of returning to the South Caucasus “to continue the Armenian Genocide,” and said that “Armenia and the Armenians of the South Caucasus are the last remaining obstacle on the way of continued Turkish expansion toward the North, the North East, and the East, and the realization of its imperialistic dream.”
In a recent interview with Le Figaro, Pashinyan said that Yerevan has evidence that the Turkish military was controlling Azerbaijan’s military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh, and suggested that Ankara be kicked out of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) due to its ‘aggressive and biased’ position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
On Thursday, Erdogan said that the OSCE Minsk Group tasked with negotiating a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has no right to call for a ceasefire, and said that the organisation should demand that Armenia put an end to its “occupation” of the breakaway Azerbaijani region instead.
Both Paris and Moscow have expressed concern over reports of illegal armed formations being transferred to Nagorno-Karabakh by Turkey from Middle Eastern conflict zones including Syria and Libya to take part in the fighting against Armenian forces.
In his remarks Friday, Pashinyan reiterated the claims about the transfer of jihadist militias, and stressed that the population of Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be “unprotected, facing terrorists and extremists.”…”

Macron wants to ‘teach more Arabic in schools’ to prevent French youth from slipping into radicalism
More Arabic will be taught in French schools and extra resources will be directed at studying the Muslim civilization, the country’s leader Emmanuel Macron said.
The measures are part of the strategy to fight Islamic radicalism.
In his speech on Friday, he president highlighted the importance of preventing radicalization in the country’s Muslim communities. He said that “more Arabic language will be taught in schools or as part of extended day programs.” Macron explained that authorities must put an end to young people learning the language “from groups that offer them the worst and manipulate them.”
“Arabic, just like many other languages, is a treasure of our children, of their families,” Macron said, stressing that the state must support “the emergence of a better understanding of Islam.”
The president announced that the government will create the “Scientific Institute of Islamology” along with new positions in higher education to conduct research on “the Muslim civilization, the Mediterranean Sea region and Africa.”
On top of that, more funding will go to the Foundation of Islam for France, which was established in 2016 to promote “progressive Islam,” according to its mission statement.
Aside from various outreach initiatives, Macron vowed to continue defending secularism as one of the key principles of modern France. He said that the government would prepare a bill that would strengthen a 1905 law that officially separated the church from the state.

reuters – Macron launches crackdown on ‘Islamist separatism’ in Muslim communities
PARIS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron pledged on Friday to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control in some Muslim communities around France.
France has struggled with homegrown Islamist militancy for years, but Macron’s government is increasingly worried by broader signs of radicalisation – often non-violent – within Muslim communities, French officials say.
They cite the refusal of some Muslim men to shake women’s hands, swimming pools that impose alternate time slots for men and women, girls of as young as four being told to wear full-face veils, and a proliferation of ‘madrassa’ religious schools.
Macron said a bill tackling Islamist separatism would be sent to parliament early next year. Under the new law, home-schooling would be severely restricted to avoid children being “indoctrinated” in unregistered schools that deviate from the national curriculum, he said.
“What we need to fight is Islamist separatism,” Macron said during a visit to the impoverished Paris suburb of Les Mureaux. “The problem is an ideology which claims its own laws should be superior to those of the Republic.”
Among other measures, the teaching of Arabic in France would be encouraged and an Institute of Islamology created, Macron said. But foreign imams would no longer be able to train clerics in France.
Prefects – local representatives of the central government – would be given powers to annul decisions by mayors to restrict school cafeterias or swimming pools to women or men only.
CHOICE OF WORDS
Muslims of France association president Amar Lasfar told Reuters that he was not sure that a new law was necessary, as applying existing laws could reach the same result. He also took issue with Macron’s choice of words.
“It is a speech that tries to point at a danger, and I do not quite agree. In ‘Islamism’ there is the word ‘Islam’ and I think he could have talked about extremism or radicalisation. One cannot stigmatise all Muslims,” he said.
More than 250 people have been killed on French soil over the past five years in attacks by Islamist militants or individuals inspired by jihadist groups.
Less than two years before the next presidential campaign, Macron is keen not to leave himself open to attacks from far right and traditional conservative parties, who take a hard line on crime and immigration and who want a stricter application of French laws on secularism.
France follows a strict form of secularism, known as “laicité”, which is designed to separate religion and public life. The principle was enshrined in law in 1905 after anti-clerical struggles with the Catholic Church.
In recent decades, the growing desire among French Muslims to express their religious identity has shifted the focus of balancing religious and secular needs onto Islam.
Many French Muslims, though, have long complained of discrimination and marginalisation that have contributed to poverty and social alienation within their communities.
At the heart of the matter is the question of what it means to be French in a country with Europe’s largest Muslim minority – numbering around 5 million or 7-8% of the population.
Macron said Islam and radical Islamism should not be conflated and that he wanted an “enlightened Islam” in France.

FRANCE PRAVDA – Analysis: Macron bill specifically targets Islamic separatism
French President Emmanuel Macron has revealed details of a long-awaited anti-separatism bill, which includes a ban on home-schooling in most cases, and requirements for any institution seeking public funds to sign a charter on secularism.
France’s Macron Unveils Bill to Combat ‘Islamist Separatism’ (sputniknews, Oct 2, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202010021080643983-frances-macron-unveils-bill-to-combat-islamist-separatism/
“French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday detailed the government’s proposed bill to fight manifestations of radical Islamism in the country, tightening control over the foreign influence on Islam and funding for mosques, and promoting the domestic training of imams.
“The ambition to train and promote in France a generation of imams and intellectuals who defend Islam [that is] fully compatible with the values of the republic is a necessity”, Macron told a press conference in the Mureaux commune in the Ile-de-France region.
The bill will include intensified control over schools. Starting in 2021, homeschooling will be strictly limited in line with health reasons. The measure comes amid numerous closures of unregistered educational structures promoting radicalism, the president said.
Macron also said the bill would imply the mandatory rule of neutrality for employees of public service companies that they must follow while performing their work to avoid manifestations of separatism.
In addition, the bill will provide more grounds for dissolving associations in which manifestations like the “attack on dignity of a person” or “psychological or physical pressure” are detected, Macron said.
“Any association applying for a grant from the state or local authority must sign a contract respecting the values of the republic. If the contract is broken, its officials will have to repay”, he indicated.
The cabinet will consider the bill on 9 December, Macron said, adding that it is to be presented by French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. It is expected to go to parliament in the first half of 2021.
The president stressed that secularism is one of the main principles of France that must not be violated. At the same time, he said, there was no place for stigmatisation of Muslims, given their religious demeanour does not undermine the republic’s secular values.
“We must face with great determination and strength the radical forms in the short term, we must win back everything that the republic allowed to do, which pushed the youth to be attracted by this radical Islam”, Macron said.
He noted that, once passed, the bill will strengthen the 1905 French law on the Separation of the Churches and State that set up state secularism in the country.
The president’s long-awaited speech follows the recent beginning of a trial on 14 suspects allegedly having assisted the terrorists in the January 2015 Paris attacks, including the massacre in the Charlie Hebdo’s editorial office, and the recent terrorist attack not far from there by a man who wounded several people to avenge the republication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed by the satirical magazine.”
PM Modi to inaugurate strategic Atal Tunnel tomorrow: All you need to know
Atal Tunnel, Rohtang[1] (previously known as Rohtang Tunnel), named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is a highway tunnel built[2] under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway. At 9.02 km (5.6 mi) length, the tunnel will be one of the longest road tunnels in India and is expected to reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 km (28.6 mi).[3][4] The tunnel is at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,171 ft) whereas the Rohtang Pass is at an elevation of 3,978 metres (13,051 ft).
The Leh–Manali Highway, one of the two routes to Ladakh, The Rohtang Pass receives heavy snowfall and blizzards during winter months and is open for road traffic for only four months in a year. The tunnel will keep the highway open during the winter. The other route to Leh is through the Zoji La on the Srinagar-Drass-Kargil-Leh highway, which also gets blocked by snow for nearly four months in a year. Construction of a 14 km long tunnel under Zoji La has been planned. These two routes are vital to feed military supplies into military sub-sector in the west facing Aksai Chin and the Siachen Glacier.
The Atal Tunnel is not exactly under Rohtang pass; it is slightly west of the pass. The south entrance is north of Dhundi on the other side of the Beas River. The northern end of the tunnel meets the existing Leh–Manali Highway near Teling village, west of Gramphu, which is the first village after Rohtang Pass on the existing highway.
This tunnel is one reason India has been bragging about their supply line, they have the ability to move supplies and personnel into the Ladakh region by land and a major portion of the route can’t be blocked by snow. Once in the Ladakh region the supplies may have to be moved by helicopter but the land route to the supply dump gives India a big advantage.

Swedish Expert Tells Govt to Crack Down Even Harder on Hate Speech and Misinformation (breitbart, Oct 2, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/10/02/swedish-expert-tells-govt-crack-down-even-harder-hate-speech-misinformation/
“Swedish government investigator Carl Heath has recommended the state crack down even harder on so-called hate speech online, as well as disinformation and propaganda.
According to Mr Heath, a researcher at Sweden’s RISE research institute, propaganda and hate speech are a threat to the country’s democracy.
“In times like these, where disinformation and propaganda influence how we make decisions, they pose challenges to our democracy, and they drive conflict. They create polarisation and make an open and democratic conversation more difficult,” Heath told broadcaster Sveriges Radio.
“In the light of what I see, the situation is serious, and we need to act,” he added. While claiming that Sweden has a robust democratic system, he went on to claim that in the last ten years, the democratic conversation has changed, mainly due to social media platforms.
“We have never had such a great opportunity to make our voice heard in digital media. That’s good, but at the same time, we see that digital platforms are also arenas in which we see disinformation, propaganda, and nastiness spread,” he said.
Sweden’s democratic system, particularly the voting system, has, in fact, been criticised by groups like the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the past. In 2018, an election observer expressed shock at Sweden’s national election, claiming it was “undemocratic”.
“In all the many election observations I’ve been on, I have not seen anything that comes close to how undemocratic the Swedish voting system is,” Danish OSCE election observer Michael Aastrup Jensen said in 2018.
Mr Heath also said that the government needs to do more to crack down on so-called hate speech online. He said: “We see that far too many people are threatened and that far too few crimes are reported. This is an area that we see must be taken seriously.”
Swedish saw a surge of new hate crime prosecutions in 2018 due to the activity of the social group Näthatsgranskaren which reports alleged hate crimes to authorities. The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that in 2018, the country saw 459 prosecutions — triple that of just two years earlier.”
