Reader’s Links for Aug. 8, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  5. The “curve” was used as an excuse to exert control by the majority of our political masters. Scientifically-proven mask ineffectiveness provides a visible, tangible display of compliance to these same masters, and to those subjects who support a new, false scientism. The social distancing and mask wearing apply majorily to white conservatives who question the narrative. Fear is hyped by msm as a baton to promote obedience, and to cloud the average man’s noticing of what is real. Hegellian dialectics are used to assassinate (cancel) all characters and empirical evidence that do not support all desired Neo-Marxist narratives. False morbidity and contagion statistics are used by woke governments to promote a siege mentality in order to support economic devastation. Lingering doubts over proven contradictions, created by Marxist deconstruction tactics, instill paralysis in the general population.

Turkey is ready to help rebuild the port of Beirut, which has been destroyed by a massive blast, Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay said.

Turkey’s port of Mersin, on the Mediterranean, is ready to assist the port of Beirut, he added.

Beirut was severely hit by the massive explosion late on 4 August, with over 150 people killed and some 5,000 others injured, according to the latest data provided by the country’s Health Ministry.

According to the Lebanese authorities, the blast was linked to improper storage of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

  8. Britain could copy Australia and start ‘pushing back’ migrant boats after record numbers (express, aug 8, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1320231/Immigration-news-migrant-boats-border-force-refugees-Nigel-Farage

“THE GOVERNMENT is considering copying tactics used by Australia and physically blocking migrant boats from entering British waters according to an incendiary report.

Recent weeks have seen an increased number of migrants, many of whom claim to be refugees, arriving in the UK by small boat. Currently the British Border Force intercept the dinghies and take migrants onboard in a bid to ensure their safety.

However this has led critics to claim they are effectively providing a “taxi service” across the English Channel.

On Friday an estimated 150 migrants attempting to cross to Britain were picked up by the Border Force.

This followed a record 235 who made the trip on Thursday.

So far this year more than 3,800 migrants have made the crossing, versus 1,850 for the entirety of last year.

As the English Channel is the world’s busiest shipping lane, and many of the boats are flimsy inflatables, there are fears a fatal accident could take place.

According to a Whitehall source, speaking to The Times, Ministers are considering a strategy previously used by Australia called “push back” that would block migrant boats from entering UK waters.

The source said: “Australia does an operation they call ‘push back’ and it has been successful.

“It is one option we are looking at.”

However the paper reports the Government has concerns about the legality of such a move and of the political implications should an operation end in drownings.

Currently French vessels are forced to stop any interception attempt if migrants threaten to jump in the water.

This is because under the law of the sea the preservation of life is of primary importance.

Instead therefore the French ships are forced to maintain their distance whilst escorting the vessels towards UK waters in case they sink.

There are concerns migrants will threaten to jump overboard if the British Border Force blocks their boats, requiring authorities to withdraw.

The Government is also said to be considering bringing in Royal Navy vessels to support the Border Force.

However Tony Smith, formerly head of Border Force, was sharply critical of the plans.

Speaking to The Times he said: “Bringing in the navy and other assets will provide us with more coverage at sea, but the problem remains the same: how to turn back the boats?

“I don’t think forcible interdiction or blockade will work.

“Our primary responsibility is to save lives and rescue people. Likewise the French.

“The problem is that they are resisting rescue by the French.”

In 2013 Australia introduced a new “push back” policy after the number of migrant arrivals by boat reached 20,000 a year.

Under this scheme the Royal Australian Navy intercepted the boats and took them back to the country they departed from, usually Indonesia.

The policy reduced the number of migrant arrivals by boat to 160 in 2014 and then zero in 2015.

However it was sharply criticised by the United Nations which said potential asylum seekers in boats should not be blocked.”

  10. Migrants Who Travelled to Italian Beach on Govt ‘Holiday Bonus’ Rob Tourists (breitbart, Aug 8, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/08/migrants-who-travelled-italian-beach-govt-holiday-bonus-rob-tourists/

“A group of migrants who used a government “holiday bonus” to travel to the beach in the town of Alassio were arrested after robbing tourists.

The seven migrants, all aged from 18 to 22 and originally from North Africa and the Ivory Coast, are said to have targetted children. They stole mobile phones, money, and credit cards. The gang is said to live in Turin and came to the seaside town using money provided to them by the government.

According to police, many of the migrants already had criminal histories involving assaults and robberies. Investigators say the gang assaulted their victims by kneeing them in the stomach before beating and robbing them. Police had found stolen goods in the migrants’ hotel rooms, Il Giornale reports.

According to the newspaper, at least four of the victims had to seek hospital treatment for their injuries. Local police described the incidents as being reminiscent of the film A Clockwork Orange.

Police confirmed the gang was behind three robberies. They are currently investigating the migrants’ possible connection to another two thefts in the area. Investigations have also been launched to determine if the gang struck other municipalities in the nearby area, as well.

Migrant crime continues to be a major issue across many parts of Italy. A 2018 report claimed as many as one in three crimes involve suspects from foreign backgrounds despite the migrant population of Italy making up just eight per cent of the overall population.

Nigerian mafia gangs have been at the forefront of foreign criminal gang activity in Italy in recent years, particularly relating to forced prostitution and illegal drug trafficking.

In 2018, it was reported that Nigerian migrant gangs have almost totally taken over the former tourist seaside town of Castel Volturno.”

  11. French Hotel Commandeered to House Asylum Seekers Now Unusable Due to Damage (breitbart, Aug 8, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/08/french-hotel-used-house-asylum-seekers-now-unusable-due-damage/

“A hotel in the French commune of Forbach that was used to house asylum seekers has become so damaged that it is no longer usable as a hotel.

The former Ibis Hotel was initially requisitioned by the French government to house asylum seekers and their families in 2017. Only in the last week has the government ended the requisition and made the asylum seekers leave.

The damage to the hotel has been extensive, according to André Heintz, head of the Heintz Real Estate and Hotels Group that owns the property. Mr Heintz said it could cost as much as €1.7 million (£1.54m/$2.01m) to renovate the building, Le Républicain Lorrain reports.

“It is a project that would last 18 to 24 months. In all this, we have been through nothing but suffering. The state commandeered our property when the hotel industry was doing well and returned it to us in the midst of the Covid crisis in a dismal state,” Heintz said.

The residents of the neighbourhood are also reportedly relieved that the asylum seekers are leaving the area. Many reported excessive noise coming from the building and sanitary issues. The building was also infested with cockroaches which affected neighbouring buildings.

“For the past two weeks, we’ve been living in our neighbourhood again,” one local said.

Hotels have often been commissioned by various countries to house asylum seekers in the wake of the 2016 migrant crisis. They are being used today in the UK as the number of migrants arriving across the English Channel has surged in recent weeks.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage investigated once such hotel in Bromsgrove in the West Midlands last month. Farage found that not only was the hotel housing 147 migrants but it was refusing to take bookings from UK residents looking to take a holiday in the area.”

  12. BBC – Beirut explosion: Captain Boris Prokoshev on why Rhosus was in Beirut

Lebanon’s government has blamed the huge blast that devastated parts of Beirut on the detonation of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored at the city’s port.

The government has not named the source of the ammonium nitrate, but the same amount of the chemical arrived in Beirut in November 2013 on a Moldovan-flagged cargo ship, the MV Rhosus.

Moscow correspondent, Sarah Rainsford, spoke to the ship’s captain Boris Prokoshev.

    • Not so subtle.
India pays close attention: the Shah, Mubarak, Kurds, Saudis. Isolationist rhetoric gets votes here, but reminds others that we have a short attention span, 4-8 years. Russia and China reinforce that impression, lavish coverage of visits and deals like this.

In the video above they spoke of So. Korea in the most disparaging way. SoKo “outsourced its foreign policy” to us – we look so heavy-handed. Almost as if written by Russian propagandists.

  18. As Durham prepares to interview Brennan, a particular payoff looms
    By J.E. Dyer August 8, 2020

Reporting this week indicates that John Durham “will soon interview” former CIA director John Brennan, thought to be a sign that the Durham investigation of Spygate activities against the Trump campaign is winding up.

Brennan has reportedly agreed to do the interview. The situation is interesting, as Durham should be well prepared. Washington Examiner notes this: “Last year, the New York Times reported that Durham asked for Brennan’s electronic communications, phone records, and other documents from the CIA, something NBC News confirmed on Wednesday.”

Brennan, for his part, has not had access to the classified material that would constitute his old notes and memory aids since August of 2018.

That’s the payoff referred to in the headline above. It was on 15 August 2018 that the Trump administration terminated Brennan’s post-CIA access to classified information, based on behavior by Brennan that the administration termed “erratic.”

  20. UK – Seven men in court accused of rape

SEVEN men made their first appearances in court yesterday on a raft of historic rape charges against children said to have been committed in Keighley a decade ago.

The men, aged between 26 and 40, collectively appeared on nearly 20 counts of rape allegedly committed between March 2009 and March 2010.

They all appeared separately in the dock at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon, apart from Omar Safdar who appeared before the court via a video link.

The defendants and charges are as follows:

Waqaas Ali, 26, of Hardwick Street, Keighley, is charged with two counts of rape against a child. He appeared in the dock wearing a black gilet, black t-shirt and grey shorts.

The bespectacled Hassan Syed Basharat, 31, of Highfield Road, Keighley, was wearing a grey tracksuit and is charged with one count of rape and conspiring to rape with Imran Sabir.

Imran Sabir, 40, of Bradford Road, Riddlesden, near Keighley, who is also charged with one count of rape, and conspiring to rape with Basharat, appeared dressed in a grey tracksuit.

Omar Safdar, 28, of the Pendlebury area of south Manchester, appeared charged with five counts of raping a child, and appeared in court via a video link dressed in a grey t-shirt.

Sayeed Hafeez, 34, of Thomas Duggan House, Shipley, is charged with two counts of rape. He was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.

Amjad Hussain, 34, of Scott Lane West, Riddlesden, is charged with three counts of rape, and appeared in the dock in a black hooded top and jeans.

Baber Hussain, 34, of Thorn Lane, Heaton, is charged with five counts of rape, and one count of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl. He was wearing a grey cagoule and a blue t-shirt in the courtroom.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place in Keighley, expect one of Amjad Hussain’s rape charges which is alleged to have taken place in Colne, Lancashire, and all allegedly took place ten years ago.

None of the defendants were required to enter a plea at this point, and all were told to attend their next hearing at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday, September 1.

Each of the defendants was granted unconditional bail, except Safdar who was granted technical unconditional bail.

They were all told while it was not in the conditions of their bail, it would be “very foolish and very unwise” to contact each other or attempt to contact the complainant.

  21. Just One in 40 Illegal Channel Migrants Returned to EU: Report (breitbart, Aug 8, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/08/just-one-40-illegal-channel-migrants-returned-eu-report/

“The British government has only successfully deported one in 40 illegal boat migrants back to the European Union since the start of last year, an analysis from a British newspaper has revealed.

Just 2.6 per cent of the 5,795 boat migrants have been deported since January of 2019. Zero of the 2,860 migrants who have reached Britain since May have been sent back so far.

“We’ve had repeated promises that this situation is being tackled,” a local source in Dover told The Sun.

“They’re being taken to hotels and are being housed here,” the source said, adding: “Those stats fly in the face of what the Government has said it will do.”

“We’ve got plenty of warm weather so the crossings will rise. It’s a key time for the traffickers,” the local explained.

There are an estimated 48,000 asylum seekers in the UK as of March of this year, according to a report from the National Audit Office (NAO) — more than double the number recorded in 2012. The report projected that the cost of housing the migrants will reach some £4 billion between 2019 and 2029.

In July, Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage released a video which showed a hotel in the West Midlands refusing to take bookings from British people, because it was fully booked with 147 asylum seekers, presumably at the expense of the British taxpayer.

Mr Farage warned that if the asylum claims of the migrants in the hotel are rejected, they will not be deported, but rather “they will still stay in the country… picking fruit, working in the rag trade in Leicester or whatever it is. They will move into the illegal slave economy in this country.”

In order to simplify the return of failed asylum seekers and illegal migrants, the British government will demand that France begin fingerprinting migrants, which will also serve to prevent them from attempting to cross the English Channel multiple times.

“The French must ensure that migrants who are caught attempting to reach the UK by boat cannot do so again,” said immigration minister Chris Philp…”

  22. Sicily to Build Migrant Tent City as Island Overwhelmed with Arrivals (breitbart, Aug 8, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/08/migrant-tent-city-sicily-overwhelmed-new-migrant-arrivals/

“The Italian government has begun constructing a tent city to house newly arrived migrants in Sicily as the island’s reception centres are full due to the recent surge in landings.

The tent city is set to be located in a former military area in the town of Vizzini, a part of the Metropolitan City of Catania. A number of populist anti-mass migration parties have slammed the proposals, accusing the government of not consulting with local authorities.

Fireband Giorgia Meloni, leader of the national-conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI), said the tent city is likely to hold hundreds of migrants. She criticised the leftist coalition of the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement (M5S), accusing them of having pro-mass migration policies, Il Giornale reports.

FdI and populist Senator Matteo Salvini’s League have both sworn to organise sit-ins and flash mobs to protest the tent city over the next few days.

Stefano Candiani, regional secretary for the League in Sicily, stated: “In a land where services and infrastructure for Sicilians are slowing down, it is truly paradoxical that a mega tent city for migrants should be set up in a matter of days.”

Candiani compared the new camp to the former Cara di Mineo camp, formerly the largest migrant camp in Europe that held up to 4,000 people. Matteo Salvini closed the camp in 2019 while he served as Italian Interior Minister.

Salvini also commented on the new tent city, saying: “In Cara di Mineo there were 4,000 people: I closed it after four years. Reopening it won’t happen, so they’re trying to set up one next door. After we return to the government, everything they open in this period, we will close it.”

As migrants continue to storm Sicily and the island of Lampedusa, many remain concerned that illegal migrants could spread coronavirus and cause a new wave of infections across Italy.

Several incoming migrants have tested positive for the Chinese virus, including over 130 migrants who were transferred to a migrant reception centre in the north of Italy.”

  23. Iran: China’s Newest Colony?

    by Majid Rafizadeh
    August 8, 2020 at 5:00 am

A slogan in which Iran’s ruling mullahs have taken pride since they came to power in 1979 is: “Neither East nor West.” The Iranian regime has long boasted about its independence from both Western and Eastern powers. A new secret deal with China, however, appears to be giving Beijing significant control over Iran.

The 25-year secret deal, which looks like a colonial agreement, grants China significant rights over the nation’s resources. Leaked information reveals that one of its terms is that China will be investing nearly $400 billion in Iran’s oil, gas and petrochemicals industries. In return, China will get priority to bid on any new project in Iran that is linked to these sectors. China will also receive a 12% discount and it can delay payments by up to two years. China will also be able to pay in any currency it chooses. It is also estimated that, in total, China will receive discounts of nearly 32%.

Another secret element of the agreement has a military dimension: China will deploy 5,000 members of its security forces on the ground in Iran. These concessions are unprecedented in the history of the Islamic Republic. The deal is a clear win for China; the $400 billion will be invested over 25 years, which is a small amount for the second-largest economy in the world. China will also have full authority over Iran’s islands, gain access to Iran’s oil at a highly discounted rate and increase its influence and presence in almost every sector of Iranian industry, including telecommunications, energy, ports, railways, and banking. China, incidentally, is the world’s largest importer of oil.

  25. China Seals Off Village After Bubonic Plague Outbreak Causes Death
    By Ryan Saavedra

    Aug 7, 2020 DailyWire.com

Communist China locked down a village in the northern part of the country after an outbreak of the Bubonic plague led to the death of a resident. The news comes after China repeatedly lied to the world about the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in Wuhan and has killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world and devastated the global economy.

“Authorities in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia have sealed off a village after a resident there died from bubonic plague, a centuries-old disease responsible for the most deadly pandemic in human history,” CNN reported Friday. “The death was reported to health authorities in Baotou city on Sunday and the victim was confirmed to be a bubonic plague patient on Thursday, the Baotou Municipal Health Commission said in a statement on its website.”
