Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    But I do wonder when #DUMPTHEJUNK will take place and what the result will be.

    One of the many things which remain to me a complete mystery is why many supporters of all major Football Clubs buy, at some considerable cost, ‘Replica Shirts’ featuring their ‘heroes’ so that; presumably, they can imagine they are their real-life heroes. Or at least their kids, whose slim frames are those who will wear the ‘Replica’ image of their heroes. I say ‘the kids’, because the idea of the average Brit. football fan being the owner of the same athletic, agile, super-fit frame and muscled body of one of those ‘heroes’ is, to put not a too fine a point on it: pushing reality a bit. They also buy the programmes, the scarves, the mugs (porcelain, naturally) and the rest of the garbage put out by the Marketing Departments, of all those clubs; especially for all the mugs (thats right, the clubs all look upon those who buy the tickets and the assorted garbage as ‘MUGS’) and fans to buy. It is exactly the same as the vast majority of airline staff look upon the passengers who used to climb the stairs, or tramp the endless yards towards the aircraft loading gates, and describe them as ‘Self-loading Cargo’.

    As I have maybe stated before, I neither know, nor indeed care, about most sports, and in particular Football. But I hear, through the world-wide grapevine that some football fans have decided that they are not going to be taken for ‘MUGS’ any longer.

    Most football fans will have heard reported, or indeed seen, the video of a small aircraft towing a banner over Burnley football stadium; and the banner reading “White Lives Matter Burnley”’. The banner was flown at nearly the same time as the footballers were all ‘taking the knee’, in the stadium, in presumed support of the Marxist ‘blacklivesmatter’ bunch of anarchists. Faster than a speeding bullet, the Police investigated if there had been a breach of some Law or other, and, frustratingly to some; the answer came that ‘No apparent infringement of any Law had been detected. Detected! Lancashire police said that after assessing all the information available surrounding the incident, the force had concluded “that there are no criminal offences that have been disclosed at this time”.

    So, as no infringement had been detected, that would, or rather should; have been the end of the matter. But, far and near, ‘Offence’ had been taken. People had been ‘OFFENDED’, AND THIS WAS JUST INTOLERABLE!.

    So the Diversity bandwagon was halted; and off popped, firstly Paradigm Precision Burnley, which makes aerospace components and is listed on Burnley football club’s website as a “connected member”, which allows it to secure discounted match tickets for its workers. Paradigm stated “The matter is being taken very seriously and a full investigation is being carried out into the facts and potential breaches of a number of the company’s equality, diversity and social media policies. To be very clear, Paradigm does not condone racism in any form.”

    Racism? What Racism? What had a man’s action outside of the workplace got to do with the Company?

    Next Blackpool Airport. Blackpool airport said it would stop operating banner flights following an emergency review. Stephen Smith, the airport manager, said: “Blackpool airport and Blackpool council are outraged by this incident. We stand against racism of any kind and absolutely do not condone the activity. The message was offensive and the action reprehensible.”

    Stand against Racism? What racism? The message was offensive? How? Who was offended? White People who live in Burnley? How were they offended? Black and Asian People who live in Burnley? Possibly because they weren’t mentioned? There probably wasn’t enough room on the ‘effing banner!

    Next, up popped Iffy Onuora, the ‘equalities’ officer for the Professional Footballers’ Association, (Naturally, as a more unequal lot of ‘divas’ couldn’t be found anywhere than the Professional Footballer’s Association) said on Tuesday he hoped the widespread condemnation of the banner would act as a catalyst for further conversations about the Black Lives Matter movement. He also said “The words themselves aren’t offensive, it’s just the context. It’s the rejection of the conversation we’re having at the moment. That’s what it represents,” Onoura told the BBC.”

    And then he said the magic words; ““I guess people have the right to do it.” Yep, Iffy, You got it right there, just for a change!

    Jake Hepple has lost his job at a turbine factory over this, banned for life from Burnley and his girlfriend was fired from her job in a beauty salon because she allegedly refused to attend a ‘racial re-education’ class. If ever there was a great case for an Employment Tribunal, its this couple. They did nothing wrong!!! No Law was broken!!! But still Jake was fired, and his girl friend too, because she wouldn’t ‘Take The F***king Knee” and attend a bloody racial awareness class!

    Some time back, I wrote of my memorable visit, during my Merchant Navy days; to the blood-stained Communist Regime in Romania, in a piece named Like waves, the memories come floating by! But even that savage regime couldn’t stand in comparison with their blood-brothers, the East German People’s paradise, complete with the World’s most intrusive and repressive Security apparatus, known and feared as the ‘Stasi’. With their nationwide filing system placing ‘Sister against Father’, and ‘Brother against Mother”, and all the microphones, and tapped telephones: along with the Re-education Classes: all standing together so that the repressed wouldn’t dream of the shining Western ‘FREE’ West Berlin Civilisation just over the barbed wire, past the anti-personnel land mines and the spotlight-wielding sharpshooters. I am reminded of those days, and of that fearsome regime, because, unless we are very, very careful, and as ruthless as our opponents, the glad-handers for the rabble who march under the ‘blm’ flag: the ‘Show Trials’ and the ‘Konzentrationslagern’ are just over the hill.

    But, of course, I digress: back to the Footie! I mentioned earlier that the ‘MUGS’ were stirring from their torpor. It appears that some football clubs, despite being built and supported by working class mostly white Britons, in the case of Burnley since 1882, now being actively racist towards those same white working class football supporters.

    As Mr. Pat Condell (@patcondell on Parler) said: No law broken. Lifetime ban. #BurnleyFC is a racist club. The sooner it goes out of business the better. I’ve awarded myself a lifetime ban from woke corporate #PremierLeague football and cancelled a #SkySports subscription I’ve had for decades. #FootballHasBeenPoisoned.

    The two faced attitude of Burnley FC, the blatant and one sided virtue signalling by those who own and manage the team along with pandering to the racialist Black Lives Matter movement has without a doubt pissed off many British football fans. They feel abandoned by the clubs that they’ve supported through thick and thin, often over three or more generations of supporters from the same family. They’ve bought the tickets, bought the programmes, the merchandise, the scarves and the replica kits. These mostly white working class football fans have from their own pockets, given these clubs their existence. Yet when the chips are down these clubs turn their backs on the fans in order to virtue signal to a bunch of Black racists.

    There might be a ‘#DumpTheJunk’ event at Burnley FC’s ground on Saturday. All Burnley supporters are encouraged to go to the EMPTY ground on Saturday and bring the ‘Junk’ with them, and dump it outside the main gates. The Junk being the scarves, the shirts, the merchandise bought to support the club, the CL:UB which has now turned upon them, and bent the `knee’ and bowed their heads to the truly Marxist and Divisive ‘blacklivesmatter’.

    We see and read of the stars of the Premier League walking back from their ‘fervent displays’ of loyalty, once they ‘learned’ of the Marxist and anti-Semitic attitudes of the ‘blm’ bunch. Most of us, sensible, solid British people, who perhaps accept that there are injustices in America, but very, very few of the calibre of the death of George Floyd, would prefer to wait and see for themselves, rather than follow the cries and crowds of young Marxist agitators. We are therefore unimpressed when a singer comes along, but his song seems rather vague and less than pointed.

    The #DumpTheJunk campaign has, hopefully, the potential to take off and be successful and really make the point that football fans are fed up with racist and virtue-signalling football clubs. The best signal, to my own mind, would be a simple statement; not in any broadsheet, certainly not in any fan magazine, but in the minds of the British fan, which says, “If you don’t like me, and you don’t like the way I think, then you’ll have to do without my cash, whether for a single match, or for a season ticket! If a fan says exactly what he thinks; and you ban him: well count me amongst the banned as well!”

    “Law enforcement officials in Austria cannot yet confirm if a Russian citizen who was shot dead near Vienna was of Chechen origin, Lower Austria police spokesman Walter Schwarzenecker said on Sunday.

    “It is known that a 43-year-old Russian citizen was found dead with a gunshot wound. Police began a search and at roughly 21:30 [19:30 GMT], a 47-year-old man was detained near Linz. He is also a Russian citizen”, Schwarzenecker said.

    When asked if the murdered citizen was of Chechen origin, the police spokesman said that he was not in a position to comment.

    “I cannot confirm this yet. While we are talking about Russian citizens, their identities have yet to be confirmed”, Schwarzenecker said.

    The Russian Embassy in Vienna has said that it is working to clarify all the information of the incident.

    According to Austrian media reports, an asylum seeker of Chechen origin was shot dead in the town of Gerasdorf bei Wien at approximately 19:30 local time (17:30 GMT) on Saturday evening. Schwarzenecker said that the suspected gunman was arrested two hours later near the city of Linz.”

    Xinjiang, China, is where an estimated one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim ethnic minorities are facing an alleged expansive campaign of repression, including forced sterilization, destruction of religious sites and mass “re-education” camps.

    The shipments seized Wednesday contained about 13 tons of hair products suspected to be made with human hair that originated in Xinjiang, indicating potential human right abuses of forced child labor and imprisonment, according to a CBP statement.

    The proposal to introduce an upper limit target for asylum applications was put forward by the centre-right Moderate Party.

    At first, Löfven and his left-liberal Social Democrats seemed to be on board with limiting the number of migrants able to apply for asylum in Sweden — but this caused conflict with their Green Party partners in the country’s coalition government.

    Prime Minister Löfven said he did not support targets or limiting asylum applications and that Sweden would do its part — but that he expected other European Union member-states to do the same, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.

    “We will do our part as a part of the EU. Not more. Because it becomes unsustainable,” Löfven claimed.

    Isabella Lövin, an MP for the Greens, said that her party would not support any limits on asylum seeker applications, saying: “We are clear that we will not participate in and implement any policy that we do not support. It is not sustainable for our government partner to settle for anything else.”

    According to a former member of the Green Party, the issues has led to a deep division in the coalition government and many within the party say they are ready to leave.

    Sweden has granted around 1.2 million migrants residency permits in the last decade, with most of the permits coming from either family reunification or asylum applications.

    In October of 2019, Statistics Sweden revealed that mass migration has shifted the demographics of the country to such an extent that now around 20 per cent, or one-fifth, of all Swedes come from migration backgrounds — nearly two million people in total.”

  25. Sky News Australia – A 2013 bat virus may have been manipulated to create COVID-19

    Flinders’ University Professor Nikolai Petrovsky has told Sky News there are fears a bat virus discovered by the Wuhan Institute of Virology was tampered with to create the COVID-19 virus.

    It is believed the closest genetic relative of COVID-19 is the RaTG13 virus founded by researchers from the Wuhan Laboratory in 2013.

    Professor Petrovsky said the possibility of the RaTG13 being manipulated to make COVID-19 is clearly a concern.

    He told Sky News host Sharri Markson there are differences between the bat virus RaTG13 and COVID-19.

    “There are several other elements that don’t seem to fit with (COVID-19) being a direct descendant of the bat coronavirus”.

    “Either a whole lot of viruses have mixed in nature to get these new elements or the other potential explanation is someone has put those elements directly into the original bat virus”.

    Professor Petrovsky said scientists across the globe still can’t properly determine how COVID-19 emerged.

    “Moroccan-born Said Mechaout has been sentenced to a maximum 30 years behind bars over a year after he murdered Italian man Stefano Leo in Turin because he was “white” and “happy”.

    The murder took place on February 23rd on the banks of the river Po in Turin but it wasn’t until around a month later that 27-year-old Mechaout, a naturalised Italian citizen born in Morocco, confessed to the killing.

    Italian prosecutors Ciro Santoriello and Enzo Bucarelli both pushed for the maximum sentence of 30 years in the case after remarking that Mechaout showed little to no remorse following the murder.

    Mariagrazia Chiri, the mother of Stefano Leo, was also present at the sentencing and commented “We have always been confident. And the sentence gives us that reason. Justice has run its course,” Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera reports.

    Basilio Foti, the lawyer for Mechaout, said that he expected the sentenced to be reduced on appeal, however, noting that Mechaout came forward himself and confessed to the crime.

    The confession, which took place over a month after the murder, saw the Moroccan migrant explain to the police that he killed Leo simply because he was white looked “happy”.

    “I hit a white, based on the obvious fact that a young Italian would have caused a sensation,” he allegedly told police.

    “I looked at him and I was sure he was Italian. I wanted to kill a guy like me, take away all the promises he had, children, remove him from his friends and relatives.”

    The case is just one of several brutal murders in Italy in which migrants have been the preparators. One of the most brutal was the murder of Italian teen Pamela Mastropietro, who was killed and her body dismembered by a Nigerian drug dealer in 2018…”

    Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri has revealed in a recently published interview that Iran has built numerous offshore “missile cities”, groups of underground silos, along the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, hosting ground-to-sea missiles ready for launch.

    The admiral explained that the information about the missile silos’ existence is no secret to Tehran’s enemies, but he hinted that the adversaries are unaware of their real locations.

    “The IRGC Navy is present everywhere in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, in every place that the enemy would not even think about,” the admiral said.
    Tangsiri went on to note that apart from new long-range missiles, Iran’s enemies might face brand new military vessels “beyond their imagination”.

    “We are your nightmare”, the IRGC Navy’s admiral summed up.
    The admiral’s revelations come as Iran continues to demand that the US stop deploying its naval forces in the Persian Gulf region. Washington has so far ignored the calls, regularly sending in its destroyers and aircraft carriers, despite complaining about them being “harassed” by Iranian speedboats.

    The US justifies its naval military presence by insisting that its mission is to maintain peace, but Iran has repeatedly dismissed this explanation. The Islamic Republic’s officials have argued that the US doesn’t bring peace to the Middle East, and insists that the Persian Gulf states can take care of local security issues themselves.”

    “On 2 July, the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) said there was an incident during construction work at the Natanz uranium enrichment plant in the central province of Isfahan, which damaged one of the awnings under construction.

    Iran will construct a bigger building with more advanced equipment to replace the damaged building at the Natanz uranium enrichment site, Behrooz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said in a statement.

    According to the spokesman, cited by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the incident at Natanz could slow down Tehran’s development and the production of advanced centrifuges in the mid-term. He also added that the incident had caused significant damage to the facility.

    The statement comes after the Natanz uranium enrichment plant experienced an incident during construction work. However, the cause of the incident remains unknown. Prior to the incident, the AEOI confirmed media reports that it had stopped an IAEA inspector from examining the Natanz plant. According to the AEOI, the security monitoring equipment at the facility’s entrance had shown the presence of suspicious materials among the inspector’s belongings.

    Tehran announced the gradual reduction of its Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) obligations on 8 May 2019, which marked the first anniversary of the US’ unilateral pullout from the 2015 pact. The Iranian authorities then said that the country would start abandoning some parts of its nuclear commitments every 60 days unless the European signatories ensured Iran’s interests amid Washington’s reinstated sanctions.
    Under the JCPOA, Iran is obliged to repurpose its Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant as a centre for the production of stable isotopes, refraining from enriching uranium and leaving Natanz as the only uranium enrichment facility.”

  33. Iran: Tehranis react as masks become compulsory in public

    Tehranis shared their thoughts on Sunday as masks became mandatory in enclosed public spaces under new rules instituted due to the coronavirus outbreak.

    People who don’t obey the new rules will not be allowed to use public transport and employers have been instructed to send home workers for not wearing a mask in the workplace.

    Tehran Municipality’s Deputy Director for Transportation and City Traffic Department Seyed Manaf Hashemi explained the actions his department is taking to enforce the rules.

    “If citizens don’t use masks, we won’t let them in the subway. Furthermore, the metro police are also stationed there. At our BRT terminals, we have deployed our executive forces. Naturally, we won’t allow those who do not have a mask to get on the bus,” he said.

    One local commented that the mask requirement “should have been given sooner” due to the number of deaths from the coronavirus, while another dubbed failing to wear a mask a “betrayal.”

    Iran has suffered the Middle East’s worst COVID-19 outbreak with over 240,000 cases, and over 11,000 related deaths reported so far, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

    • Was this normal black gang violence or was this a planned incident where the level of violence is being slowly racthed? Either way things are bad but if the latter this makes the fake Qanon release at least semi correct. Which raises the question of was that a coincident was some one trying to warn people or were the Antifa types setting the stage for a further where they will issue fake and real warning so we never know which is real and which is fake. They would be raising the tension all the time with no one ever really feeling safe.

    “A WOMAN has died being stabbed at a Holiday Inn in Greenwich, south London this morning.

    Emergency services were called to the Holiday Inn Express on Bugsby’s Way in Greenwich at about 10am this morning, following reports a woman had been stabbed. Officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene, and found a woman suffering form serious injuries. She was later declared dead at the scene.

    The woman has not yet been formally identified and officers are working to inform her next of kin.

    While emergency services were at the hotel, a man – believed by officers to have known the woman, fell from a height.

    He was taken to hospital where his condition has been described as life-threatening.

    The man is currently under the guard of officers and no one else is believed to be involved in the incident.

    Detectives from Specialist Crime have launched an investigation into the incident.

    Witnesses said a hotel window appeared smashed this morning, with a police cordon in place outside the hotel.

    The hotel is understood to have stopped guests from checking in.

    One person wrote on Twitter: “Something untoward has occurred at the Holiday Inn in Greenwich.

    “A friend just tried to check in but it’s cordoned off by the Police and no one is allowed in or out.”

    A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “London Ambulance Service were called at 9:58am today to reports of an incident at an address in Greenwich.

    “We called MPS to request their attendance and we sent a number of resources to the scene, with the first arriving at 10:04am.

    “We entered the address when advised by police it was safe to do so. Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

    “A man with head injuries was treated at the scene before we took him to a major trauma centre by road.””

    In the city of Ahvaz, an explosion ignited a fire at the Zergan power plant, which Iranian media claimed was ignited when a transformer exploded.

    In Iran’s Khuzestan province on Saturday, a fire at the Zergan power plant was ignited in the city of Ahvaz, when a transformer exploded, state-run IRNA news agency reported.

    Iran has threatened to retaliate for cyber attacks launched against its facilities and named ‘hostile countries’ Israel and the United States as possible targets.

    “So far Iran has tried to prevent intensifying crises and the formation of unpredictable conditions and situations,” said IRNA.

    “But the crossing of red lines of the Islamic Republic of Iran by hostile countries, especially the Zionist regime and the United States, means that strategy should be revised.”

    Former chief of IDF military intelligence Amos Yadlin said “it appears that the prime minister [Netanyahu] focused this week on Iran rather than annexation.”

    “If Israel is accused by official sources then we need to be operationally prepared for the possibility of an Iranian reaction,” added Yadlin.

    On the same day, a chlorine gas leak at a petrochemical center in southeast Iran sickened 70 workers, IRNA reported

    Most of the workers at the Karun petrochemical center in the city of Mahshahr in southeast Khuzestan province were released after undergoing medical treatment.

    Meanwhile, videos of the Ahvaz fire appeared on social media showing massive plumes of black smoke.

    The fire was contained by firefighters after two hours of battling the blaze.

    Mohammad Hafezi, the power plant’s health and safety manager, told IRNA the cause of the fire was under investigation.

    The two incidents in Iran’s oil-rich Khuzestan come after a fire and explosion at a centrifuge production plant above Iran’s underground Natanz nuclear enrichment facility early Thursday.

    Officials said the cause of the fire at Natanz is known to officials, but won’t be immediately released for “security reasons.”

    On Tuesday, an explosion in a medical clinic in northern Tehran killed 19 people.

    “Tunisia’s parliament bureau has rejected a draft-law submitted by the opposition Free Destourian Party (PDL) to blacklist the Muslim Brotherhood.

    The bureau consists of the parliament speaker, his deputies, and 10 lawmakers representing all parties in the legislatures. Five votes were in favor of the motion and five against it.

    The bureau said the draft-law contradicts the parliament’s statute.

    PDL is a staunch critic of political Islam and Islamist organizations. Its head, Abir Moussi, accuses Ennahda movement of having solid ties with the Muslim Brotherhood despite its denial.

    Moussi said Saturday that turning down the motion proves that the Tunisian parliament is ruled by the Brotherhood.

    She described the bureau’s latest move as a “conspiracy against the state.”

    Also Saturday, workers at oilfields in the Tataouine region, in southeastern Tunisia, launched an open-ended general strike, demanding that the government implements the El-Kamour Agreement.

    The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) called for the strike that involves all public facilities, and the oil and gas sectors.

    The protesters are demanding to hire more than 1,500 people in the petroleum companies operating in the region, the employment of 500 others in the environmental and horticulture companies, and allocating an amount of TND80 million dinars annually to the development fund within the governorate.”

    “Yemeni army sources reported on Houthi militias using the mountainous terrain surrounding Sanaa to store ballistic missiles and drones the group acquired post-coup or that are smuggled into Yemen from Iran.

    Although Arab Coalition air raids have limited the Houthis’ ability to use their stock of weapons, the Iran-backed group continues to move parts of its long-range missiles to Hamdan, a neighborhood in Sanaa’s western suburbs, where launch pads are present.

    Houthis have also transferred some parts to Amran and Saadah governorates where there are launch pads directed at Yemeni cities and Saudi lands.

    Two former Yemeni officers, speaking under the conditions of anonymity, told Asharq Al-Awsat about the nature of the large mountain warehouses that were created during the rule of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh with the help of the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

    These warehouses were created in the Faj Atan highlands southwest of Sanaa.

    According to more information relayed by the two officers, other weapon depots were established at the bottom of al-Nahdayn heights which overlook the presidential compound south of Sanaa. There, Houthis keep their scud ballistic missiles they bought from North Korea alongside other short-range Russian missiles and launch pads.

    As for Naqm mountain, east of Sanaa, the officers said its caves have been used to store weapons and fuel since the 60s.

    The two military sources indicated that after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, Washington allowed a number of senior Iraqi army officers to move to reside in Yemen, as the late Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh appointed most of them advisers and trainers for the Republican Guard.

    Iraqi officers played a role in developing and expanding mountain warehouses because they can be hardly hit by airstrikes. More so, destroying these warehouses will result in a humanitarian disaster because they are located near densely populated areas.”

    Meanwhile, Turkish forces and artillery deployed in northwestern Syria reached 7,675 vehicles and 11,000 soldiers.

    “Deir Ezzor 24” local channel reported on two Russian military convoys entering the city on Friday dawn. The convoys were transferred from the rural areas of Raqqa province.

    According to the media report, around 60 military vehicles, among which were large trucks, had entered the Talay camp in Deir Ezzor.

    Another news network, Dorar al-Shamiyyah, reported on a third Russian military convoy composed of around 30 military vehicles also entering the scene in less than 24 hours.

    It is noteworthy that this is the first time a military convoy of that size enters Deir Ezzor city.

    Dorar al-Shamiyyah channel pointed out to escalating conflict between militias loyal to Russia and others loyal to Iran in the region. As a result of this conflict, a security officer was killed in clashes that took place last week.

    Clashes have so far killed four security officers and injured many others—they also resulted in the destruction of a military checkpoint and the burning down of militia camps.

    This came after news that Iranian militias took control of Boukamal town in Deir Ezzor. Quds Force commander and successor to Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad earlier this year, Esmail Qaani visited the premise set up by Iran-backed militias in the Boukamal town.

    According to Deir Ezzor 24, Iran-backed militias has forced Syrian regime troops to remove their roadblocks in Boukamal.

    More so, they denied the Russian-backed Liwaa al-Quds forces from setting up camp and checkpoints in the town.

    According to the local channel, this comes within the frame of the Russian-Iranian struggle for power in the region.”

    GNA deputy defense minister Salaheddine al-Namroush revealed that training centers will be inaugurated to ‘build a professional army’ and reinforce coordination between the two defense ministries.

    This center indicates that Turkey intends to oversee the training programs of the GNA, thus seeking to offer forces supporting it in Tripoli a kind of legitimacy, according to reliable Libyan sources.

    For his part, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar said that Libya is witnessing a military escalation with developed and dangerous weapons, in addition to a Turkish invasion exposing Libya and the region to a crisis and threatening the international peace.

    Haftar accused the GNA of destabilizing the south of the country — he reiterated his conditions to resume the political process as well as oil production and exports.

    According to Libya’s Alhadath TV, Haftar notified UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during their last phone call that the political process necessitated ensuring security and stability, dissolving and disarming militias, and clearing mercenaries.

    In this context, speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh stated to Sputnik International that Turkish armament of GNA forces is a ‘violation of the arms embargo’. Responding to a question, Saleh said that Turkey sent Libya 14,000 to 15,000 Syrian mercenaries to fight, two days ago.”

  50. Belgium: Thousands denounce university headscarf ban ruling in Brussels

    Several thousand young people and students gathered in central Brussels on Sunday to protest against a recent court ruling that held that bans on headscarves in higher education were lawful.

    Demonstrators held signs reading “Take your hands off my headscarf,” and “My right” while wearing graduation caps and protective face masks amid fears of coronavirus infection.

    “We oppose this decision. We’ve gathered to voice our disagreement while we demand inclusive neutrality. It is the state that has to be neutral, not us,” said Souailha Amri, spokesperson for the student organisation.

    Marie Lecocq, a member of the Brussels Regional Parliament for the Ecolo party, was also opposed, stating “The fact of forbidding a scarf is one of the oppressions that exist in our society to limit the rights of women and in this case to impede the access to higher education.”

    The protest was organised by a number of local NGOs that represent Muslim women and advocate for social inclusion.

    At the start of June, Belgium’s Constitutional Court ruled that banning headscarves in higher education wasn’t against the Belgian constitution or in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
