Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. CBC – Family of Muslim shot dead by Peel police demanding public inquiry

Warning: This video contains disturbing content.

The family of Ejaz Ahmed Choudry, a Muslim fatally shot by Peel police during a wellness check, are calling for a public inquiry, saying the tactics police used were uncalled for.

    • CBC – Ont. shooting death raises questions about sending armed officers to mental health calls

Serious questions are being raised about sending armed police officers to respond to mental health crises after a Mississauga Muslim was shot to death over the weekend.

The Muslim man’s family is now demanding a public inquiry, and the officer’s firing.

    • If the man was such a mess why were family not with him at all times? Police aren’t social workers.

Yesterday, while waiting in line at my bank, a tall black man had everyone, including staff, quite nervous. He was walking quickly around the bank into every loan officer’s office as if he owned the place. Then I turned to see a cop had entered the branch. By now the man was sitting in the manager’s office, with the manager hiding in another office. The cop tried his best to speak calmly to the man, but I could see there were many thoughts going through his mind at once. For police it’s no longer about the task at hand, but also about the political theater in which they’re expected to be perfect. Outside there were two more police cars. I’m not sure how it ended.

      • 1. He wanted free coffee and was directed to Starbucks
        2. He wanted a Sub-Prime loan and was told the Clintons were not in office
        3. He wanted reparation money and was referred to African Embassies who sold slaves to order.
        4. He was told Starsky and Hutch were outside and left quietly.
        5. (Or none of the above and worked for head office no one notified. They all got jumpy as they had weak politicians pandering to criminals that hid behind fake-racial/collective masks)

      • Jonny– unfortunately, it’s backwards. Where I live 20% of police receive social work training. By law police accompany social workers on crisis visits. If social workers are not available, the crisis office sends police. One way for a mentally ill person to automatically receive tteatment is for police to transport him/her to hospital; family transport doesn’t allow for triage when ill person lacks insight; social workers hand off person to police. Lots of paperwork for police to do and the gurneys of handcuffed people with a policeman in tow are lined up at the door to the ER. The ill person waits in a bed 1 day to a week before having theraputic care. I”ve seen an ER release someone when they can’t stand the screaming anymore. Sad. Insist your relatives have a doctor they can call before they need treatment and staff away from psychosis-inducing drugs (incl some anti-malarials) and situations (like being handcuffed)!

A kind friend offered me a loaner to tide me over till Apple puts out a worthy new model. If so, it might take a day or two to set up.

            • The new Apple Macbooks actually are worthy. My personal Wizard says they are everything they are said to be. The keyboard works for a change and high powered.

I may have to get one myself soonish as Apple has a way of making them run worse and worse once the 3 year extended guarantee is off of them. Mysteriously.

              • I go all the way back to Classic, OS-9. You get less and less with every model.
I’ve got the 12 yr old, plus the 6 yr old I use currently. Everybody tells me the new one is worth the wait.

    • You also don’t do like way too many people and say lets take the statues down and put them someplace where historians can study them. That is giving in to the mob, with every victory no matter how small they grow stronger. unless we fight back and do it with a higher intensity then the communist militias we will loose the country.

According to security forces, they have shot and killed about 35 militants in June alone in the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian in South Kashmir.

In continuing operations in Kashmir, security forces gunned down two unidentified militants in Bandzoo area of Pulwama on Tuesday. “A woman has allegedly been stabbed to death in front of her two children by a man believed to be their father.

Police discovered the body of the 42-year-old at 6.30pm on Tuesday at an address on Brae Street, the Range, at Rockhampton in Central Queensland.

The woman died at the scene after being found with horrific wounds to her neck and abdomen.

A neighbour told the Morning Bulletin two children ran across the road screaming.

  8. German Security Agency Warns Far-Left Political Assasinations by Antifa Groups ‘No Longer Unthinkable’ (breitbart, Jun 23, 2020)

“The German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has sounded the alarm over the increased level of violence from far-left Antifa militants, saying murders of political opponents are now possible.

According to the German security agency, far-left extremists have become more radical to the point that “the development of terrorist structures in left-wing extremism” is now a real possibility.

The 22-page report, which was obtained by German newspaper Die Welt, adds that “even the step of deliberately killing a political opponent no longer seems completely unthinkable”.

The agency specifically notes several groups within the far-left scene in various German regions which have become more radicalised and have closed off from many in the broader far-left. BfV said the left-extremists are “committed to their own facts, and split off from the rest of the scene due to their increasing willingness to use violence”.

Radicalisation has been seen in several hotbeds of far-left extremism, according to the agency, including Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig.

The Antifa militants in Leipzig especially have become more extreme and violent in recent months. They are believed to be responsible for the sabotage of construction sites linked to building projects they have deemed to be gentrification.

The sabotage has cost companies millions of euros and even led to an incident in which Antifa extremists viciously assaulted a female real estate company employee in her own home in November of last year.

The state of Saxony, where Leipzig is located, has set up a special police division named Soko LinX, specifically to deal with the rise of far-left extremist violence.

Berlin has also seen continued Antifa violence, primarily centred around the “Riga 94” apartment complex which has been occupied illegally by far-left extremists for decades.

Most recently, far-left extremists were thought to be responsible for assaulting a German television crew during May Day protests, sending most of them to the hospital.

The BfV’s warning comes just months after German Police Union (DPolG) federal chairman Rainer Wendt made a similar warning. He said: “Left-wing Internet blogs and alternative media sites, in particular, are making no secret of their desire to violently resist the political system.”

Wendt added that far-left extremists could start a group similar to the Red Army Faction (RAF), also known as the Baader-Meinhof gang, a far-left terrorist group which carried out bombings and murders between 1970 and 1998.”

  9. Brutally Beaten French Officers Refuse to Fight Back Due to Concerns of Police Brutality (breitbart, Jun 23, 2020)

“Two plainclothes members of the French riot police, the CRS, were brutally beaten at a bar in Le Mans but refused to defend themselves in case their actions provoked allegations of police brutality.

The incident took place in a pub earlier this month when the officers had decided to “lend a hand” to patrons in the pub during an escalating conflict between two parties.

One of the police officers went outside with an individual who had been involved in the conflict and told the person that he and his colleague were members of the police, Le Figaro reports.

Two women immediately became angry with the two officers. They then re-entered the bar and were attacked. “He was on the ground, in the fetal position and he received a rain of blows,” one of the officers said of his colleague. The attacked officer was unable to stand as his leg had been broken during the beating.

The second officer was also attacked by a woman who hit him in the face. But the officer said he did not defend himself out of fear of possible repercussions.

“I did not want to hit her because it was a woman, black moreover. With the particular context of the moment, I especially didn’t want us to talk about police violence,” he said.

Three individuals were arrested in connection to the attack, two of them placed in pre-trial detention.

“Some colleagues now prefer to refrain from responding to violence for fear of getting into trouble,” said Frédéric Lagache, general delegate of the police union Alliance.

Earlier this month, a similar incident took place in the city of La Rochelle in which police refused to arrest a youth yelling insults at them and trying to confront them in fear they may lose their jobs as a result.

The change of attitude of French police comes after several Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests that have taken place across France in the wake of the death of black American George Floyd in the United States.

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he will not tear down statues at the demands of BLM activists, but behind closed doors has expressed concerns the protests could spread and intensify across France.”

  11. Rights groups criticize Trump for inviting Polish president (abcnews, Jun 23, 2020)

“U.S. President Donald Trump is being accused of sending a message of support to those looking to discriminate against LGBT people and other minorities by hosting his Polish counterpart at the White House days before he faces a tough re-election battle.

Trump is scheduled to meet Andrzej Duda on Wednesday, only four days before Duda competes for a second five year term. The visit, announced last week after Trump said he plans to remove thousands of U.S. troops from Germany, is expected to include discussions on defense and economic issues.

It is believed that some of the American troops could be transferred to Poland, a NATO member on the alliance’s eastern flank. Poland is one of Europe’s most enthusiastically pro-American countries and the visit could give Duda a boost as he seeks re-election.

Duda has made LGBT rights an issue during the campaign, vowing to protect Polish families from what he calls “LGBT ideology.” He recently called the LGBT rights movement an ideology more dangerous than communism.

Public television in Poland, which is controlled by the populist Law and Justice ruling party that backs Duda, has been pushing a similar message about the LGBT rights movement, which many conservatives in mostly Catholic Poland see as a foreign import and a threat to their culture.

Law and Justice embraced the same messages ahead of parliamentary elections that it won last year, while several municipalities in Poland have declared themselves “LGBT free.”

Public television has also been using anti-Semitic tropes in a series of reports meant to undermine Duda’s main presidential rival, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski.

“We are concerned that the White House visit is sending a signal of political support for a candidate whose campaign has engaged in homophobic and antisemitic rhetoric,” said Zselyke Csaky, research director for Europe and Eurasia at Freedom House. a U.S.-based organization. “The scapegoating of minority groups is a dangerous strategy and should be condemned, not supported by the president of the United States.”

An LGBT Washington-based rights group, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, also said it condemns Duda’s visit so close to Sunday’s election.

It said Duda’s use of anti-LGBT rhetoric is “vile, manipulative and dangerous,” and that Trump was showing he is “no friend” to the gay rights community.

U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel, a Democrat who is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, called the U.S. president’s invitation to Duda an example of Trump’s “infatuation with leaders who have demonstrated autocratic tendencies.”

“President Duda and his party promote horrifying homophobic and anti-LGBTQ stereotypes and policies that run counter to the human rights and values that America should strive to uphold,” Eliot said in a statement last week.

Duda is the front-runner in a field of 11 candidates, but his support has been falling lately as the coronavirus pandemic has hit Poland’s economy.

Polls predict he will win about 40% of the votes, below a 50% threshold for outright victory. That would trigger a runoff on July 12, which is likely to pit him against Trzaskowski, who has been gaining in popularity. Polls show them tied for support in a second round.”

  12. Suicide bomber kills 2 at Turkish military base in Somalia (abcnews, Jun 23, 2020)

“A suicide bomber detonated inside a Turkish military training base in Somalia’s capital and killed two people, police said Tuesday.

It was the first time Turkey’s largest overseas military base has been attacked by the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group. The Somalia-based group quickly claimed responsibility, according to its Radio al-Furqan affiliate.

Police Capt. Mohamed Hussein said the attack occurred as new military cadets were doing their morning drills. Col. Ahmednor Abdulle, a Somali military officer, said authorities were investigating how the bomber managed to sneak into the base.

The Turkish Defense Ministry in a statement said a Somali citizen was killed and one other person was wounded. It said no Turkish personnel were hurt and there was no damage to the barracks.

The ministry condemned the “terrorist organization and its supporters who carried out this cowardly attack” and added: “We will not leave our Somali brothers alone in their fight against terrorist organizations.”…”

“Pakistani police said Tuesday their counter-terrorism forces, acting on intelligence, raided a suspected militant hideout in the country’s northwest, triggering an intense shootout in which four suspects were killed.

Police also seized assault rifles and other weapons in the overnight operation. The suspects had gathered at a home in the city of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, to plan attacks, said Sannaullah Abbasi, the province’s police chief.

The operation was successful and “saved many innocent people from possible attacks,” he said. Abbasi provided no further details, but other officials said the slain militants apparently belonged to a banned group.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province borders Afghanistan and has witnessed dozens of militant attacks in recent years, most of them claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.”

  16. the guardian – Calls for redesign of royal honour over ‘offensive’ image

Petition says image of St Michael standing on Satan is reminiscent of George Floyd killing

Campaigners are calling for the redesign of one of Britain’s highest honours personally bestowed by the Queen because they say its badge resembles a depiction of a white angel standing on the neck of a chained black man.

The Order of St Michael and St George is traditionally awarded to ambassadors and diplomats and senior Foreign Office officials who have served abroad. It has three ranks, the highest of which is Knight Grand Cross (GCMG), followed by Knight Commander (KCMG) and Companion (CMG).

The imagery on the award’s badge portrays St Michael trampling on Satan, but campaigners say the image is reminiscent of the killing of George Floyd by white police officers in the US that led to worldwide protests.

A petition calling for the medal to be redesigned has attracted more than 2,000 signatures on The petition, started by Tracy Reeve, says: “This is a highly offensive image, it is also reminiscent of the recent murder of George Floyd by the white policeman in the same manner presented here in this medal. We the undersigned are calling for this medal to completely redesigned in a more appropriate way and for an official apology to be given for the offence it has given.”

Bumi Thomas, a Nigerian British singer, activist and specialist in visual communications, said the imagery on the badge was clear. “It is not a demon; it is a black man in chains with a white, blue-eyed figure standing on his neck. It is literally what happened to George Floyd and what has been happening to black people for centuries under the guise of diplomatic missions: active, subliminal messaging that reinforces the conquest, subjugation and dehumanisation of people of colour.

“It is a depiction on a supposed honour of the subjugation of the black and brown people of the world and the superiority of the white, a construct born in the 16th century. It is the definition of institutional racism that this image is not only permitted but celebrated on one of the country’s highest honours. Whilst statues are being pulled down and relocated, emblems and symbols of this nature also need to be redesigned to reflect a more progressive, holistic relationship between Britain and the Commonwealth nations.”

Sir Simon Woolley, the director and one of the founders of Operation Black Vote, which campaigns for greater representation of ethnic minorities in politics and public life, said he was appalled by the badge.

“The original image may have been of St Michael slaying Satan, but the figure has no horns or tail and is clearly a black man. It is a shocking depiction, and it is even more shocking that that image could be presented to ambassadors representing this country abroad,” he said.

“This is the past that informs the present, and that’s why it symbolises everything that Black Lives Matter are campaigning for. It provides a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge is to acknowledge it and own it, but the opportunity is to put it right. It is easy to get rid of an image, but I would like root-and-branch restructuring, because most of the institutions created by the empire are still there.

“For most black and brown people, there is nothing good about the empire. Most people will see this as an image of George Floyd on a global scale and a symbol of white supremacy.”

The Order was founded in 1818 under King George III. It was originally created to honour service in the Mediterranean during the Napoleonic wars. The motto that surrounds the image is Auspicium melioris ævi, Latin for “Omen of a better age”.

Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.

  17. Report: Berman refused to sign letter critical of NYC Mayor de Blasio

As many speculate the reasoning behind former U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman’s ousting in New York, the White House has made it clear he was simply dismissed to make room for a replacement.

During a White House press briefing Monday, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany addressed Berman’s firing.

“The administration has very clearly outlined the reason that he is leaving and it is because Mr. Clayton will be moved into that role,” she explained. “We are hopeful that Clayton will be confirmed…no investigation will be affected by this as was made clear by Attorney General (William) Barr.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, Berman refused to sign a letter last week criticizing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for enforcing social distancing rules during religious gatherings yet not during protests. The letter suggested the mayor imposed a “double standard” when it came to the regulations.

his is not your father’s “Weimar Republic” fight, although there are hallmark elements of it playing out. The principal hallmark is the perception being assiduously fostered by the media that there are two sides to the violence and destruction in the streets. (I.e., in the Weimar Republic, Soviet-backed internationalist communists and national socialists, the latter forming the core of the Nazi movement.)

The current profile of chaotic civil disorder, perpetrated and fomented by the radical leftists of Antifa and the trained, organized Black Lives Matter operatives, fits the Weimar mold – as it does the mold of all communist uprisings. What’s lacking in America in 2020 is any semblance of an actual counterforce – e.g., “Nazis” – trying to fight it out with the communists in the streets.

No one doubts that there are neo-Nazis and KKK in the United States. But those execrable elements are not in the streets toppling statues, breaking into small businesses and looting them before burning them out, shooting retired cops, setting homeless people on fire with firecrackers, taking over police stations, attacking random motorists, or engaging in gunfights at street corners and convenience stores. They are simply not involved in the attacks that are making civil life impossible in many big cities.

  21. DAILY MAIL – Reading attack suspect’s ‘brother’ says he is ‘not a terrorist’ and was arrested because UK is ‘racist’

‘F*** England,’ says man claiming to be Reading terror attack suspect’s brother
Khairi Saadallah is accused of stabbing three people to death on Saturday night
Mo Saadallah says he ‘defended himself’ before adding ‘freedom for my brother’

A man claiming to be the brother of Reading terror attack suspect Khari Saadallah has claimed his brother ‘defended himself,’ adding that the UK was ‘racist’.

In a series of Facebook posts since Saturday night’s vicious attack, which left three people dead and three more injured, Mo Saadallah has responded to news and written ‘f*** England’.

His younger sister has also passionately defended Saadallah after his arrest.

History teacher James Furlong, David Wails, and American born Joe Ritchie-Bennett have been named as the three victims who were killed during the rampage in Forbury Gardens on Saturday night.

Responding to a Sky News post revealing the attack was being treated as terror related, Mo Saadallah wrote: ‘This is not true. Khairi defended himself … racist countries. Freedom for my brother Before !!’

On Sunday he posted: ‘We are not terrois (sic) and f*** England. #The_kingdom_of_racism’.

The suspect’s youngest sister has also defended him on social media.

She wrote: ‘First, my condolences to the families, I’m really sorry for them. This is the third day and we can’t keep silent to the people ‘who don’t know Khairi Saadallah.

‘He moved to the UK 10 years ago as a 16-year-old teenager and he started to study and release his wings with volunteer work because he has a history of volunteering in Libya during the revolution.

‘He really has a history of mental illness from the revolution, the death of relatives and the difficult situation in the country.

‘But the question is, does the terrorist enjoy tattoos? Does the terrorist wear casual clothes? Does the terrorist have girlfriends and live a normal western life?

‘And about the beard, we all know about coronavirus and he can’t shave by himself.

‘We’ve all seen the video of his arrest. He did not defend himself or fight back as the officers arrested him and he was guided to the van by the authorities.

‘The second question, do we see blood on his clothes? Did he had a weapon? Do they have a video of Khairi stabbing people?’

Saadallah, who is thought to have only been released from prison for various offences 16 days ago, came to the attention of MI5 last year, after they suspected he was planning to travel to Syria for ‘extremist reasons’.

The 25-year-old allegedly claimed to have fought both for and against ISIS, though officials assessing him found he didn’t subscribe to any ideology or belief system and instead had mental health issues.

An investigation revealed no immediate risk or threat and he was not under surveillance at the time of his alleged rampage.

Saadallah was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and delusional and paranoid schizophrenia, requiring medication before his release, a source told the Sun.

He is thought to have come to the UK from Libya as a tourist in 2012 before claiming asylum as he was at risk from Islamic extremists in his homeland because he ‘liked to drink’ and didn’t lead a ‘strict religious life’.

However, once in the UK, he is thought to have converted to Christianity and has a tattoo of a cross on his arm.

Saadallah boasted to friends in the UK that he had fought as a child soldier against the forces of former Libya leader Colonel Gaddafi – which he said had forced him to flee the country.

However, his cousin disputed these claims and said Saadallah had fled to avoid conflict.

She added that he heard voices and had psychotic episodes which left him thinking he was being followed.

The cousin, speaking to the Daily Telegraph, added that, three years ago, Saadallah started dating a British woman who was ‘very religious’ and he started going to church, eventually converting to Christianity.

Though the couple have since split, Saadallah maintained his faith, even have a tattoo of a cross etched onto his arm.

His cousin added: ‘ He’s not Muslim any more. It’s like he’s always been in the UK.’

His cousin in Libya said: ‘I can’t believe he’d do anything like this or be involved in anything to do with terrorism. He was at risk of extremists in Libya because he liked to drink and socialise and didn’t lead a strict religious life at all.

‘He started going to church and had tattoos all over his body including one of a cross on his arm. He did get in trouble in England and could be aggressive but I can’t ever imagine him getting drawn into something as serious as this.’

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,613, June 23, 2020

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Israel is proving to the Gulf States that it is a more reliable partner in some respects than big powers like the US, China, or Russia. But the limits of cooperation with Israel could come to the forefront at a time of economic crisis in which the Gulf States are likely to have to renegotiate longstanding social contracts.

The Firefly, an Israeli-built loitering kamikaze drone, part of the Spike family of missiles that the Jewish state has sold to various European nations, may be one reason why Gulf States, particularly Saudi Arabia, have cozied up to Israel in a seeming reversal of their past support for Palestinian rights.

If there is one lesson the Gulf States have learned from the reduced commitment of the US to the region and the strains in US-Saudi relations, it is that putting one’s eggs in one basket is risky business.

That has not prevented the US from continuing to secure its place as the region’s foremost arms supplier, as recent arms and related commercial deals prove.

The US Defense Department announced a $2.6 billion Saudi deal to acquire 1,000 air-to-surface and anti-ship missiles from Boeing. Within days, Saudi Arabia’s Al Tadrea Manufacturing Company tweeted that it had reached an agreement with Oshkosh Defense to establish a joint venture to manufacture armed vehicles in the kingdom.

  23. 106 shot, 14 dead, zero shot by police; finger pointing begins

New Chicago police Superintendent David Brown has been in his post for just two months, but his walk to a lectern at police headquarters had a familiar feel Monday.

Another weekend of stunning bloodshed in Chicago had given way to another round of police and city leaders grasping for explanations.

“On the heels of Father’s Day, I come to you again with obviously a high level of frustration and disappointment,” Brown said at a press briefing.

This time, on the first official summer weekend of the year, it was 106 people shot, 14 fatally — including a 3-year-old boy.

The tally marked the most people shot in one weekend here since at least 2012, and the violence took a particular toll on children. Twelve of those shot were younger than 18 years old. Five of them died, including two walking into their backyard after going to get candy at a corner shop.

  24. Why Trump Isn’t Taking Action in Seattle

The leftist tantrum is an information operation – and Trump is winning it.

    Kurt Schlichter

It’s certainly frustrating to watch a pack of reeking leftist scumbags declare a portion of an American city an “autonomous zone” – what is it with Democrats and their secession fetish? – but do not get frustrated because Donald Trump has not sent the 101st Airborne in to powerwash the human grunge from Seattle’s feces-bedecked streets. That’s what the Democrats want. And Trump – a better strategic thinker than all the media geniuses, hack politicians, and Afghan War-losing generals who cry about him – is not only not going to give them the victory they crave. He’s going to jam their cheesy plan down their throats.

The libs’ plan to win in November corresponds to Trump’s plan to crush them yet again. Skeptical? Consider this. In the five years since he rode down that escalator bringin’ hell with him, how many times have they come at Trump and won? Zero. He’s spent half a decade on the edge of doom and he’s still here. Why would you think that the walls are suddenly closing in now? You shouldn’t.

Let’s understand the strategic scenario. The long-term strategic objective of the leftists is to turn the United States into Venezuela, and they want to be Maduro. The major strategic objective that will put them in position to do so is victory in the November elections. Everything happening right now is part of their overall strategy to achieve that objective.

  25. Intifada Realism

What can happen in America when radical Islam allies with the radical Left.

Some years ago, Maryland insurance broker Tom Clancy spotted a news story about a Soviet submarine that cut loose and headed west. That prompted Clancy, a naval historian of sorts, to write The Hunt for Red October, about how the defection might have gone down.

Preston Fleming, a veteran of “11 years of government service in places like Beirut, Cairo, Tunis, Jeddah, and Amman,” noticed the original Intifada in the West Bank and Gaza. That prompted the vision of an Intifada in the United States. In Fleming’s Root and Branch, the stateside Intifada gears up after an electromagnetic pulse attack by Iran, Pakistan and North Korea, but the EMP assault gets no description until 70 pages into the narrative.

From the Canadian border to Connecticut, there was no electricity, natural gas, no drinking water, and no sewer treatment. EMP impaired telephone circuits, cellphone towers, computers and vehicle electronics, so there was no gas at the pumps, no food in stores, no cash at ATMs, and no meds at hospitals. This was an ideal atmosphere for “the looting, the rioting, the home invasions, the gun battles between criminals and neighborhood militias, and the total breakdown of social order.”

  26. Five Quick Things: The Facts of Life Are Conservative, Even After Tulsa
Five case studies of Democrats at their lowest — how low can they still go?

It was Margaret Thatcher who first popularized the saying that “the facts of life are conservative,” but that perspective has been around through the ages. It’s axiomatic, as conservatism’s very name implies the conservation of things that are known to be salutary and workable … as opposed to the other ideologies, which offer things that are supposedly new but are in fact mere reproductions of that which has already proven to fail.

And fail leftism does. Always and forever, and usually in spectacular form.

To illustrate, we’ll do something a little different with this installment of Five Quick Things — namely, five current examples of narrative implosions proving that the Left simply can’t seem to hold its act together.

    And away we go.

  27. Tensions Rising Between Gangs in Paris No-Go Suburbs (breitbart, Jun 23, 2020)

“Tensions, reprisal shooting attacks, and gang violence are boiling over in the Paris no-go suburbs as rival drug-dealing gangs are battling each other in a new wave of conflict.

The commune of Epinay-sur-Seine in the district of Seine-Saint-Denis has become a hotbed for gang violence and tensions in recent weeks with at least two shootings taking place in the area, one of them leading to the death of a 16-year-old boy.

Another shooting took place last Tuesday in the Orgemont district of the commune and saw a 21-year-old man show in the leg, with the 9mm bullet lodging in his right thigh. The man was targetted by unknown assailants driving a black Renault Twingo with tinted windows as he was leaving a local supermarket, French newspaper Le Parisien reports.

Investigators found three 9mm bullet casings at the scene and say that the victim of the shooting was known to the justice system.

The newspaper attempted to speak to several locals in the area about the shooting, but none would talk about it. Some claimed not to even be from the district and have little knowledge of the ongoing drug trafficking business. “No one will tell you anything,” one young man said.

A member of a local neighbourhood association, who wished to remain anonymous, said that there was a “very tense climate” between gangs from Orgemont and several other nearby neighbourhoods.

Gang violence has spread across France in recent months and has even led to local authorities in the city of Nimes to relocate an elementary school after “war weapons” were used in the area.

Riots and violence against police have also rocked many French neighbourhoods since the start of the Wuhan coronavirus lockdown. Many of the rioters cited police brutality or police violence as the reason for their actions.”

  28. A Brief History of Antifa: Part II
    Antifa in the United States

    by Soeren Kern
    June 23, 2020 at 5:00 am

U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced that the American government would designate Antifa — a militant “anti-fascist” movement — as a terrorist organization due to the violence that erupted at George Floyd protests across the United States.

The Code of Federal Regulations (28 C.F.R. Section 0.85) defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

American media outlets sympathetic to Antifa have jumped to its defense. They argue that the group cannot be classified as a terrorist organization because, they claim, it is a vaguely-defined protest movement that lacks a centralized structure.

As the following report shows, Antifa is, in fact, highly networked, well-funded and has a clear ideological agenda: to subvert, often with extreme violence, the American political system, with the ultimate aim of replacing capitalism with communism. In the United States, Antifa’s immediate aim is to remove President Trump from office.

Gatestone Institute has identified Antifa groups in all 50 U.S. states, with the possible exception of West Virginia. Some states, including California, Texas and Washington, appear to have dozens of sub-regional Antifa organizations.

    • A Brief History of Antifa: Part I

U.S. Attorney General William Barr has blamed Antifa — a militant “anti-fascist” movement — for the violence that has erupted at George Floyd protests across the United States. “The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly,” he said.

Barr also said that the federal government has evidence that Antifa “hijacked” legitimate protests around the country to “engage in lawlessness, violent rioting, arson, looting of businesses, and public property assaults on law enforcement officers and innocent people, and even the murder of a federal agent.” Earlier, U.S. President Donald J. Trump had instructed the U.S. Justice Department to designate Antifa as a terrorist organization.

Academics and media outlets sympathetic to Antifa have argued that the group cannot be classified as a terrorist organization because, they claim, it is a vaguely-defined protest movement that lacks a centralized structure. Mark Bray, a vocal apologist for Antifa in America and author of the book “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook,” asserts that Antifa “is not an overarching organization with a chain of command.”

Empirical and anecdotal evidence shows that Antifa is, in fact, highly networked, well-funded and has a global presence. It has a flat organizational structure with dozens and possibly hundreds of local groups. Not surprisingly, the U.S. Department of Justice is currently investigating individuals linked to Antifa as a step to unmasking the broader organization.

In the United States, Antifa’s ideology, tactics and goals, far from being novel, are borrowed almost entirely from Antifa groups in Europe, where so-called anti-fascist groups, in one form or another, have been active, almost without interruption, for a century.

  29. ‘Developments’ in Durham Investigation Likely by This Summer, Barr Says

Attorney General William Barr said he expects some “developments” later this summer in U.S Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the FBI’s counterintelligence Russia probe.

Barr said Durham has been pressing ahead with his investigation “as hard as he can,” despite facing barriers posed by the CCP virus pandemic, which had delayed some aspects of the probe.

“In terms of the future of Durham’s investigation, he’s pressing ahead as hard as he can. And I expect that we will have some developments, hopefully before the end of the summer,” Barr told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” on June 21.

He said the pandemic had slowed down the process to allow Durham’s team to interview people, adding that people had been reluctant to travel for interviews due to the virus. Despite the delays, Durham had been working on other matters that aren’t affected by the pandemic, Barr said.

Barr assigned Durham in early 2019 to investigate the origins of the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign and to assess whether the surveillance of Trump campaign associate Carter Page was free of improper motive. The probe was designated a formal criminal investigation later in 2019.

Durham could scrutinize the conduct of several current and former senior FBI officials during his investigation, including former Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and former Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok. Those officials were involved in obtaining a warrant for surveillance on Page and deployed at least two spies to target Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos.

    • It is hard to see how the CCP could survive a collapse of the 3 Gorges Dam, things aren’t looking good for China.

    • Not that Epoch Times is putting the Evil Eye on that Dam, or anything else…
No doubt Falun Gong members hold a meditation/prayer service every morning in different parts of the world devoted to cursing the CCP. Ennumerated specifics, in dead earnest.

      • I’m not a civil engineer but I saw two design flaws 1) the concrete is setting on bedrock not attached to it and 2) the Dam was a straight line, it should have been curved and positions so that if anything moved it would be jammed tighter into the rest of the Dam.

I don’t doubt they curse the CCP but I doubt they want the dam to fail, if that lets go (and the photos showing the dam taking on a zigzag pattern scared me) a good chunk of the 400 million people the video talked about will be dead within a week to a couple of months.

All of the problems that China now has (food shortages, Wuhan Flu, no one buying much so their economy is tanking and now floods) are enough to make even the most skeptical of people wonder if someone upstairs isn’t angry at either China and the CCP. Now add in the way entire schools of fish are leaping out of the water which is something that often happens shortly before earthquakes.

        • A shifting mandate of heaven causes a ruckus.
Xi might shrug off a 100 million, but 400M is pushing it.

Epoch Times is propaganda crafted for Western conservatives. I like the balance with the other sources you bring – from Singapore, Taiwan, and So. Korea. India is total propaganda, but it’s a lot of fun.
