Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    “The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in a statement that it has approved a $732 million funding to help Bangladesh overcome the impact of the measures implemented to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic on the country’s garment exports-oriented economy.

    “The COVID-19 pandemic is severely impacting the Bangladeshi economy. Two major sources of external financing, namely exports of Ready-Made Garments (RMG) and remittance inflows, are projected to decline rapidly”, the statement said on Friday.
    The IMF explained that it had approved two separate disbursements of $244 million and $488 million to assist Bangladesh in the economic recovery.

    The International Monetary Fund is working through requests for novel coronavirus pandemic relief from more than 100 nations and says it has up to $1 trillion available for this purpose.

    Bangladesh, a country of 164 million people, has reported nearly 43,000 novel coronavirus cases and 582 deaths since February, the World Health Organization dashboard shows.”

    “A gang of up to 15 men who robbed and pushed two teenage boys into a canal just days after kicking a pregnant woman into the same body of water are at the centre of a police hunt today.

    The two 14-year-old boys, Ryan and Jake (not their real names), were set upon by the gang as they walked along Netherton Canal in Liverpool at 6.50pm on Tuesday.

    Ryan was hit on the back of the head with a wooden bat and spent six hours at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital having his head wound glued, reported the Liverpool Echo.

    Meanwhile Jake was punched and struck to the arms with a wooden pole that looked like a chair leg. The gang took both boys’ trainers and Jake had his iPhone and Apple AirPods stolen.

    It comes just two days after a pregnant woman was allegedly kicked into the canal by a gang of scooter-riding thugs, aged between 15 and 18, at 7.45pm on Tuesday.

    She had been walking near Strand Road Bridge with a man when the gang descended on the pair and asked for the time before kicking them both into the water.

    It was the second robbery Ryan had gone through in a matter of weeks, after his bicycle was taken at knife point.

    His mother told the newspaper any thought of the attack made her ‘sick to her stomach’, and Jake’s mother feared ‘it could have been much worse, I could have been going to see my son’s corpse in the morgue’.

    She added: ‘They had axes and we heard the police recovered a knife nearby. He’s very shaken up, but I think he’s putting on a front at the moment, he’s a tough lad.’

    Ryan’s mother revealed the police had been made aware of names after a group were heard ‘bragging’ about the attack.

    The gang, who were all wearing face coverings and gloves, are at the centre of a police hunt after the two ‘completely unprovoked attacks’ in the space of a week.

    Merseyside Police Detective Sergeant Alan Williams said: ‘This is the second incident we have seen this week where people have been assaulted in this area and have either been pushed into the canal or otherwise assaulted during completely unprovoked attacks which could have resulted in far more serious injuries or worse.

    ‘We are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries and would ask anyone with information on either incident to come forward.

    ‘If you were in the area at the time of this incident and witnessed what happened or if you were the member of the public who kindly helped the two young boys, please let us know.'”

    “Authorities in Blackburn said they will “take action” over a gathering of Muslim men praying in the streets which constituted a “serious breach” of coronavirus lockdown measures.

    Police in Lancashire had granted “special permission … to perform the [Muslim] call to prayer” in Blackburn to mark Eid, according to a letter signed by Assistant Chief Constable Peter Lawson and local government leader Mohammed Khan.

    But the document, which was seen by BBC Asian Network, reportedly emphasised that individuals must “pray privately in their home” as “restrictions on congregational prayers had not been lifted”.

    “Not on the street, not in congregation with an Imam leading the prayer, not with amplified microphones and not with road closures,” the authorities specified.

    Blackburn with Darwen Council said they would “take action” against organisers of the gathering, which saw Muslim men praying in the street to celebrate the end of Ramadan with no regard to social distancing or other coronavirus regulations, after footage of the event was uploaded to social media.

    Sayyed Osman, the council’s director of adult services, suggested that “the whole community feels let down” by the event, which appeared to breach Wuhan virus guidelines on social distancing and public meetings.

    “No permission was given for any such gathering and we see this as a serious breach of the national lockdown,” he said, claiming that it was “only a very small minority” who had prayed on the street.

    “We are working with the police to take action against the individual who organised the gatherings.”

    Multicultural Blackburn is said to be one of Britain’s least socially cohesive places, with the “Muslim Asian and white communities were living worlds apart” in a kind of informal segregation, according to a BBC investigation in 2007.

    A follow-up investigation by the BBC in 2018 found that the situation had, if anything, significantly worsened, with the broadcaster — not normally keen to highlight the downside impact of diversity on the country — quoting one South Asian heritage migrant saying: “There were probably about half a dozen Asian families here [when I arrived], nowadays there’s probably half a dozen white families left” — with “very little prospect for integration”.

    Breaches of lockdown rules became a major political issue in Britain, with Boris Johnson’s political advisor Dominic Cummings — who is loathed by the liberal media and establishment over his role in Brexit — has been subjected to a weeks-long witch hunt following claims he flouted restrictions.

    Breitbart London previously compared the media uproar over Cummings, which attracted international attention, to the lack of establishment interest when globalist Irish leader Leo Varadkar was pictured at a topless barbecue in the park with multiple friends.

    The picnic was dismissed as a “storm in a bag of cans” with the assertion that Varadkar “did no harm” being made in the Irish Times — a newspaper which previously printed multiple pieces condemning British prime minister Boris Johnson for his refusal to sack Cummings.

    In one article, which decried Britain and America as “racist” nations “full of white people”, it was claimed that Cummings having held on to his job had revealed “a British political establishment that is obnoxious, its corruption and lies hiding in plain sight”.”

    “India’s Ladakh region has recently witnessed tension, along the 4,000 km long Line of Actual Control India shares with China. Earlier this month, China deployed several troops and heavy vehicles to “reclaim authority” over eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley – which escalated border related disputes between the two nations.

    Pakistan has reportedly attempted to illegally gather data from the Indian Defence Forces in Ladakh using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony system, at a time when New Delhi is embroiled in a border infrastructure dispute with China.

    The clandestine activity was uncovered by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch and Indian Army’s intelligence team, Republic Media Network reported on Saturday, citing unnamed officials.

    “This is the biggest spy network using illegal Voice Over Internet Protocol. A total of three functional sim boxes and one standby sim box along with 191 sim cards, laptop modem; antennas; batteries and connectors. Defence persons received calls from suspicious numbers, seeking information related to Ladakh Region and important defence installations,” a source was cited as saying.
    The Indian investigative agencies have reportedly traced some incoming VoIP calls from Pakistan, suspecting the involvement of the Pakistani intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

    The Chinese SIM boxes that come with the most common type of Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) SIM cards converted calls from Pakistan to appear “local”, the media reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

    The devices are banned by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which is responsible for regulating telecommunications in the country.

    “These exchanges were being used by hostile intelligence agencies to seek military information through calls and posed a security threat to the nation. One arrest has been made in Mumbai and a probe is underway to ascertain the identity of more individuals who are involved and the locations of other similar exchanges,” an official close to the development was quoted by Republic Media Network as saying.

    As of now, no detailed information about the results of the related investigation have been officially disclosed to the public.

    Islamabad hasn’t commented on these reports so far.

    The Line of Actual Control is a loosely-demarcated border between Indian and China where cross-border transgressions are a common phenomenon, not classified as aggression by either side.

    However, border tensions between the two countries escalated in the Ladakh sector this month, with armed troops from both the nations present at the stand-off site for over a week.

    The tensions rose to a point where US President Donald Trump offered to intervene; India and China, however, decided to deal with the matter on their own.”

    Chinese officials recently slammed the U.S. for urging the United Nations to involve themselves in Hong Kong affairs. On Friday, Chinese officials denounced the United States’ request for a UN Security Council meeting, which would focus on the new security law in Hong Kong, and threatened retaliation if they continue.

    According to China, the U.S. is undermining Hong Kong’s autonomy and shouldn’t be involving itself in their domestic affairs.

    The communist country recently passed a new security law in Hong Kong, which has threatened the freedoms of the democratic city.

  22. Organized assault on civil order spreads across U.S. cities purporting to be about ‘justice’ for George Floyd

    The only real point that needs to be made about the riots in some of America’s biggest cities on Friday night is that they obviously weren’t protests about police treatment of George Floyd in Minneapolis. They were riots, opportunely coordinated in multiple cities to ride the coattails of legitimate protest over Floyd’s tragic and suspicious death in police custody.

    At the moment, it isn’t clear how much momentum the organized attacks have. A few hours ago, a rioting mob was attacking the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, breaking windows and wreaking havoc on the lobby as rioters scuffled with CNN security and police. Additional video on social media showed other attacks in Atlanta. Sadly, the College Football Hall of Fame has been basically destroyed, windows and glass partitions shattered, gift shop pillaged, artifacts and displays from the rich history of college football ransacked, damaged, and gone.

    • As I have said before the left is trying to recreate the summer of 1968 and the major riots that happened then. The major reason for this is to create so much chaos that the US will be ungovernable casting doubts on Trumps win in November. (The riots will help him win) and give the left an excuse for more riots) This is all part of the coup attempt against President and the US form of Government.

      We are already seeing professional agitators in all major cities stir up trouble and the Propaganda Media is helping them. The left thinks they can win an asymmetric civil war and if they don’t win they will manage to take a lot of the Worlds attention off of China and their moves to seize power in Hong Kong and possibly other neighboring nations. Always remember that nothing that is happening is happening in a vacuum, the left exists around the world and while they fight each other they (like the Moslems) cooperate with each other to fight their enemies. The riots besides making people doubt the US and out system of Justice also cause massive economic damage at the time we are recovering from the lockdowns. They (like the virus) weaken and lessen our potential reactions to Chinese aggression and increase the probability of Iranian and or North Korean action against the US and our allies.

      One thing the left accomplishes with the riots is make more people dependent on the Government, the riots destroy businesses and jobs.

      The criminal activity that has rocked the streets of Minneapolis for four nights running could be partially the work of white supremacists, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has suggested, citing his own “suspicions.”

      Walz shared his thoughts on the matter after a reporter asked him if he thought “white supremacists” were flooding into Minneapolis to “cause destruction in the city.”

      “I certainly can’t confirm personally on this. My suspicions from what I’ve seen on this – yes,” he responded, noting that there were “unconfirmed reports” which corroborated his hunch.

      The governor also said he was receiving intelligence from federal agencies about various elements, including drug cartels, trying to “take advantage of the chaos.” The claim caused considerable eye-rolling on social media, with people noting that vandalized buildings and businesses were tagged with anarchist symbols, “black lives matter” and anti-police slogans – not exactly the usual fare from white supremacists.

      Some commentators have been arguing that the protests and rioting in Minneapolis and across the United States have been at least partly coordinated by Antifa and other far-left groups.

      It appears that Walz believes the worst is yet to come. In anticipation of larger protests on Saturday, the National Guard is expected to deploy an estimated 1,700 troops – 700 more than originally planned.

    Dan Bongino had a good segment in his Thursday podcast on the Obama update to Executive Order 12333, the Reagan-era order that regulates the use and handling of intelligence on foreign targets by the U.S. federal intel agencies. E.O. 12333 covers multiple types of intelligence, but in the last few years, its fame has been all about communications intelligence, and in particular, the treatment of incidental collection of U.S. person identities (USPI).

    As public understanding of the 12333 revision has matured, it has become easier to vector in on what really mattered about it. The first time I made the point on this was in early 2017, shortly after Michael Flynn resigned as national security adviser. It was evident from the leak about his phone calls with Sergey Kislyak (published on 12 January 2017) and the subsequent kerfuffle that led to his resignation in February that the revision to 12333 was central to what was going on.

  24. Greece: Refugees protest outside UN offices in Athens amid eviction concerns

    Dozens of Asylum seekers, who face the risk of becoming homeless by the end of May due to the end of accommodation support, gathered in protest outside United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Athens on Friday.

    “They want to throw us on the street. Where will the children live?” explained a Syrian migrant at the protest where dozens carried placards and migrant status documents from the Greek government.

    Tens of thousands of refugees, who were previously given asylum in the country, are facing eviction from accommodation facilities where they are currently staying. The Greek authorities plan to reinstate the refugees living in apartments and refugees centres funded by the UN with asylum seekers on Aegean islands aiming to decongest the flow of refugees in mainland Greece.

    Protesters demanded a solution or travel documents so they could travel to other EU countries in seek of refuge.

  25. The Flynn-Kislyak Transcripts have been released. They exonerate Michael Flynn and indict everyone else in the Obama Administration. perhaps even Obama himself, who conspired against Flynn.

    On January 4, 2017, the FBI agent overseeing the Crossfire Razor investigation of Michael Flynn drafted, but did not file, a memorandum. In it, the agent wrote that “The goal of the investigation was to determine whether [Flynn], associated with the Trump campaign, was directed and controlled by and/or coordinated activities with the Russian Federation in a manner which is a threat to the national security and/or possibly a violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.” Having exhausted all leads in the check for derogatory information and having used a confidential human informant that turned up nothing, the agent wrote that he was closing the investigation. Peter Strzok stopped from doing so, ordering him to keep the file open at the request of the “7th floor” — i.e., Jim Comey and Andrew McCabe.

    It is not clear whether the FBI agent overseeing the Flynn investigation saw the Flynn-Kislyak transcripts before January 4 and whether the agent included an analysis of their contents in making the decision to close the investigation. Regardless, the transcripts are now public and we are free to analyze them ourselves. There were six conversations and two messages intercepted — presumably by the FBI — between Russian Ambassador Kislyak and LTG Michael Flynn in 2016 and 2017. In connection with the SARS outbreak – caused by a coronavirus dubbed SARS- CoV – the NIH researched chloroquine and concluded that it was effective at stopping the SARS coronavirus in its tracks. The COVID-19 bug is likewise a coronavirus, labeled SARS-CoV-2. While not exactly the same virus as SARS-CoV-1, it is genetically related to it, and shares 79% of its genome, as the name SARS-CoV-2 implies. They both use the same host cell receptor, which is what viruses use to gain entry to the cell and infect the victim.

  33. In Paris, clashes during a demonstration in support of migrants held in detention centres

    In the Opéra district of Paris, police use tear gas on several occasions to disperse hundreds of demonstrators gathered in support of the “Solidarity March”, to defend the rights of undocumented migrants exposed to coronavirus in detention centres.

    The demonstration was banned by the police prefecture, which invoked the decree prohibiting gatherings of more than 10 people because of Covid-19.

        Anti-government protesters wearing orange vests protested on Piazza del Duomo in Milan on Saturday, demanding the removal of the coronavirus restrictions and the resignation of the government followed by elections.

        One of the founders of the Orange Vests movement, former Carabinieri General Antonio Pappalardo, addressed the crowd, criticising the government.

        “The Italian people are not afraid. The Italian people have the desire to redeem themselves,” he said. “[This is] the end of this government of arrogant people. The end of this government.”

        Protesters also demanded the approval of a new electoral law, exit from the eurozone and tighter migration controls.

      Orange vest protestors have taken to the streets of Italian cities to demonstrate against the Government’s strict Covid pandemic lockdown, claiming the virus ‘does not exist’.

      The anti-lockdown group are demanding for Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s Government to be replaced by a national Government and the ‘return to the Italian lira’.

      Italian businesses have only recently been allowed to reopen after more than two months of a nationwide lockdown meant to curb the spread of the virus, but hundreds took to the streets in Rome and Milan to demand an immediate end to the restrictions.

      The country has confirmed 232,664 coronavirus cases and a death toll of 33,340, having at one point suffered the highest death rate in the world.

      The group, led by ex-general of the carabinieri Antonio Pappalardo, converged on the Piazza Duomo in Milan this morning, disregarding social distancing measures and with almost no one wearing face masks.

      They were joined for the protests by the far right groups ‘March on Rome’ in the country’s capital, as well as neo-fascists Casapound. It is reported that all the groups are demanding an end to the lockdown measures with immediate effect.

      In a moment of tension, protesters in Rome with raised arms approached a riot police cordon that blocked the group’s way, before trying to push over an armoured police car.

      ‘Get us through,’ they were reported as shouting by La Repubblica. Police then used pepper spray to disperse the crowd of around 70 protestors according to police reports.

      Milan’s mayor Beppe Sala shared his anger at the protestors on twitter, saying: ‘I asked the prefect to denounce the organizers of the so-called “orange vests” demonstration: it is an act of irresponsibility in a city like Milan that is trying so hard to get out of the difficult situation where it is.’

      Some among the crowds were also protesting the economic hardship the lockdown has brought, with thousands of businesses forced to shut leaving families without income.

      ‘Here are people who don’t eat,’ said one protestor from Bergamo. ‘There are people who have not taken a salary for 4 months. We are hungry. They made us die.’

      Prime Minister has said that the country is taking a ‘calculated risk’ as it moves to further ease its coronavirus lockdown measures in an attempt to return to a new normal and revive a flailing economy.

      The premier added that while the ‘contagion curve’ could rise again, the country could not afford to wait for a vaccine to be developed.

      Mr Conte announced that travel to and from Italy, and between the country’s regions would be allowed from 3 June, and gyms, swimming pools and sports centres will reopen on 25 May, and cinemas and theatres on 15 June.

      Travellers from EU countries will be able to enter Italy without going into a two-week quarantine.

    When one reads gun blogs voraciously, one runs across two main types of arguments for our right to keep and bear arms (RKBA). The constitutional argument (the English comprehension model) and the self-defense argument. I have a broader theory, though. The idea hit me when I was watching a TEDx talk by General Peter van Uhm, former Chief of Defense for the Netherlands’ armed forces.

    I began to think of a more salient correlation between weapons, personal freedom and democracy. The working theory: firearms are related to the rise of democracy, representing a basic subversion of the dominant political theory of government.

    To examine the relationship between firearms and the subversion of tyranny, one must go back to the beginning. For democracy that means Athens.

    At the time when the political system arose, Athens was a gun-free zone. Socrates wasn’t leaning on his long rifle on the Promenade as he taught. But when nascent democracy granted its citizens (a rather select group) voting rights, it required military service. Conscripts had to provide their own arms.

    The average Athenian citizen owned his own sword, spear and armor. He was trained in their use during weekly drills in phalanx fighting (as well as participation in the “manly” sports of wrestling and boxing). Given the geopolitical conditions on the Greek peninsula of the day, it’s highly likely citizens had plenty of actual combat experience as well.

    Athens had a democratic political system. They also had democracy of violence, in that all citizens (once more, not the same thing as a modern citizen) had ready access to weapons and training. It becomes a chicken and egg question – which came first? I’d hazard the guess that the blades came before the ballot.

The European nations became democracies when the ordinary citizen could afford to by weapons that put them on equal footing with the Nobles.     A woman was found dead inside a car following the second night of violent riots in Minneapolis.

    According to police, the woman appeared to be in her 30s with “trauma visible” on her body, which was in the back seat. The car was in the area of the riots, in the middle of the street on 17th and Bryant Avenue.

    There were multiple reported kidnappings in the area during the same time period.

    Libor Jany, a reporter from the Star Tribune wrote on Twitter that “amidst all this, police are being called to investigate a possible kidnapping from the parking lot across the street from their burning station; a screaming woman was said to have been forcibly put into a vehicle that then sped away, according to scanner traffic.”

Labs across Canada have tested over 1,593,000 people for COVID-19 to date, with about 5 percent of these testing positive overall. Over the past week, we have been testing an average of 22,300 people daily. These numbers change quickly. I encourage Canadians to consult Canada.ca/coronavirus for the latest information.

    While everyone in Canada is working hard in the fight against COVID-19, there is an increasing concern about a range of unintended negative consequences of the pandemic response. Among these is the impact on the ongoing public health crisis of opioid-related overdose deaths and problematic substance use in Canada more broadly.

    This week, the British Columbia Coroners Service reported that unintentional illicit drug toxicity deaths have increased in recent months, with over 100 reported deaths in the province in both March and April 2020. These data indicate a very worrying trend. It has been over a year since British Columbia observed numbers this high sustained over a two-month period.

    Tragically, other jurisdictions across the country are reporting similar trends. In April 2020, Toronto Paramedic Services reported the highest number of illicit opioid-related fatalities in a month since September 2017, noting responses to 343 suspected drug overdose calls including 25 deaths. Overdose interventions have also spiked at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where staff reversed over 40 overdoses in both March and April 2020 compared to 11 in February. There have also been clusters of overdoses due to unknown or unusual mixes of toxic illicit substances in jurisdictions, including Nova Scotia, Toronto, and Guelph, Ontario.

    While it remains vital to keep up public health measures to protect Canadians from COVID-19, we must find ways to maintain lifesaving supports, including treatment and harm reduction services, for loved ones and members of our communities who use drugs. Changes in the illegal drug supply in the wake of COVID-19 may result in increased risk of overdose for anyone who uses illicit drugs.

    We know that using drugs alone is a major risk factor for experiencing a fatal overdose. This is why it is so important to never use drugs alone. Always have someone nearby to call for help if things go wrong and carry naloxone, a life-saving drug that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid-related overdose. If you are isolated because of COVID-19, connect virtually to someone close by who can monitor you and be ready to call 9-1-1 (or your local emergency help line) if needed.

    It is encouraging to see community organizations and orders of government across the country coming together to address the dual public health crises of COVID-19 and drug overdose deaths in Canada. Harm reduction and treatment facilities are implementing infection controls. Virtual and mobile services are being ramped up to serve people at a distance.
