Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. George Soros: Germany’s ECB Ruling May Spell ‘the End of the EU as We Know It’ (sputniknews, May 12, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202005121079277646-george-soros-germanys-ecb-ruling-may-spell-the-end-of-the-eu-as-we-know-it/

“Germany’s Constitutional Court ruled last week that the eurozone’s central bank had overstepped its mandate when purchasing government debt under its quantitative easing (QE) programme and threatened to block new purchases of German bonds by the bank.

Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros has predicted that the ripening institutional showdown in the EU may bring about an end to the union as we know it.

“I am particularly concerned about the survival of the EU because it is an incomplete union,” Soros said in an interview with the Independent.

He added that the EU’s creation process was never completed, and that makes Europe “exceptionally vulnerable – more vulnerable than the US not just because it is an incomplete union but also because it is based on the rule of law. And the wheels of justice move very slowly, while threats such as the Covid-19 virus move very fast.”

The 89-year-old investor expressed grave concern over Germany’s Constitutional Court, which last week challenged the European Central Bank’s mass government debt-buying programme and gave the bank a three-month ultimatum to justify the proportionality of its bond purchases or risk losing the Bundesbank as a participant.

The European Commission in response threatened to sue Germany, although EU officials said on Monday that immediate legal action against Berlin is unlikely.

“The ruling poses a threat that could destroy the European Union as an institution based on the rule of law, precisely because it was delivered by the German constitutional court, which is the most highly respected institution in Germany,” Soros warned.

He said that the episode could set a precedent for other EU member states, like Poland and Hungary (which have already clashed with Brussels over their rule of law) to question the legality of decisions by the European Court of Justice.

“If the German court’s verdict prevents the EU from resisting these developments, it will be the end of the EU as we know it,” he concluded.”

    • I’m adding this: TRULY VERY BAD

In what can only be described as an appalling move, the federal National Research Council of Canada is linking themselves to China to ‘test’ a vaccine in Canada.

As reported by the Globe & Mail, CanSino – a company linked to China’s Academy of Military medical Sciences – will be brought to Canadian soil to test out China’s Ad5-nCoV, the Chinese vaccine candidate.

Making the deal even more absurd, Canadian technology will be used on the vaccine, but even if it works, Canada won’t get any ‘revenue’, with all of it going to China.

According to the report, “Canada’s involvement with Chinese vaccine developers dates to the 2007 signing of an agreement on scientific and technological co-operation. In 2011, the two countries agreed to collaborate on vaccine development. CanSino’s chief executive, Xuefeng Yu, also spent many years studying in Canada and working as an executive at Sanofi Pasteur Inc. He was formerly based in Toronto.”

And while this latest collaboration under the Trudeau government is a terrible move, as long back as 2014 the Harper government had signed a deal with China, and as a result China gets access to our technology without Canada being able to profit.

Additionally, the China-controlled company is seeking Health Canada approval to conduct human trials in Canada.

  4. Stand-off Between Indian, Chinese Troops Escalates as Fighter Jet, Helicopters Scramble in Ladakh (sputniknews, May 12, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/military/202005121079279822-stand-off-between-indian-chinese-troops-escalates-as-fighter-jet-helicopters-scramble-in-ladakh/

“The current stand-off in eastern Ladakh is the second such instance since India and China disengaged in Doklam after a 73-day stand-off in 2017. The Indian Air Force (IAF) scrambled its Su-30MKI after it spotted the movement of military helicopters on the Chinese side of the border last week.

A Chinese helicopter was once again spotted in the eastern Ladakh sector on Tuesday for the third time since 5 May, defence sources in New Delhi said.

Border tensions between India and China have escalated in the Ladakh sector as fully armed troops from the two sides have been present at the stand-off site for more than a week.

Defence sources said: “Approximately 100 fully armed troops from the two sides are holding their ground at a position near the Pangong Tso (lake).”

Sources said over 1,200 Chinese troops kept ready as reinforcement near the contested region, where the two sides had hurled stones and engaged in fights on 5 May.

ANI news agency reported that during the stand-off on 5 May, the Indian Air Force scrambled a pair of Sukhoi30 MKI after two Chinese military helicopters were seen flying on their own side.

“No airspace violation by any side in Ladakh. Chinese and Indian choppers were flying in their respective airspace,” defence sources in New Delhi said.

However, the Indian Air Force did not comment on the issue officially, as the movement of fighter jets near the Line of Actual Control is not allowed under the bilateral agreement.

The Line of Actual Control is a loosely demarcated border that separates the two Asian giants, due to which, such transgressions are a common phenomenon, not classified as aggression by either side.

On Monday, while commenting on the face-off, the Chinese foreign ministry had said that People’s Liberation Army’s troops were there to keep peace and tranquility. “We hope India will work with China to uphold peace and tranquility in the border regions with concrete actions.”

The last time the two countries were engaged in a border stand-off was in 2017 when the Indian army objected to road construction by the Chinese in Doklam region, a tri-junction at the border that separates India, Bhutan, and China.

Border standoffs between Indian and Chinese troops occur at regular intervals in different parts of the 4000 kilometre Line of Actual Control between the two nations.”

Two babies and 11 mothers and nurses have been killed in an attack on a hospital in the Afghan capital.

Another 15 people, including a number of children, were injured when several gunmen attacked the Kabul hospital on Tuesday morning, officials said.

Part of the hospital is run by the international medical charity, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), and some of those working there are foreigners.

Meanwhile, in the east, an attack at a police funeral has killed at least 24.

Dozens more were injured in that bomb blast and casualty numbers in both attacks could rise. It is not clear who carried out either attack.

In Kabul, locals heard two blasts, then gunfire. One doctor who fled during the assault, which began at about 10:00 local time (05:30 GMT), told the BBC about 140 people were in the hospital when the gunmen began their attack.

Afghan special forces have rescued 100 women and children, including three foreigners, an official told the BBC.

The attackers, who gained access dressed as police officers, according to news agency Reuters, were all killed by security personnel after a battle lasting hours.

Images from the scene of the attack showed soldiers carrying one newborn baby to safety, swaddled in a blood-stained blanket. It is not clear if the infant had been injured.

The Dasht-e-Barchi Hospital has a maternity wing run by MSF. Many foreign staff live in a guesthouse behind the hospital building and a doctor who fled the building told the BBC he saw an explosion there too.[…]

  15. China Slashes Australian Beef, Barley Imports After Warning Against Coronavirus Probe (breitbart, May 12, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/05/12/china-slashes-australian-beef-barley-imports-after-warning-against-coronavirus-probe/

“China slapped an import ban on four Australian abattoirs Tuesday in an escalation of Beijing’s warning of a consumer boycott in retaliation for Canberra’s push for an independent coronavirus probe.

The beef ban comes just days after China flagged plans to slap an 80 percent tariff on Australian barley, bringing the trade to its knees.

Analysts said the move raised concerns of a possible standoff between Australia and its most important trading partner that could spill over into other crucial sectors as the world struggles to navigate the disease-induced economic crisis.

The Financial Times reports China is Australia’s largest trade partner, with two-way trade worth $153bn in the year to the end of June 2019.

However, bilateral relations have sunk following Canberra’s passage of tough foreign interference laws in 2018, which were aimed mainly at Beijing, and its more recent calls both for a coronavirus probe and an end to China’s live animal wet markets.
Australian Trade Minister Simon Birmingham tried to allay fears of a trade war overnight, saying shipments of meat from the abattoirs had been suspended over “minor technical” breaches.

“We are concerned that the suspensions appear to be based on highly technical issues, which in some cases date back more than a year,” he added.

“We will work with industry and authorities in both Australia and China to seek to find a solution that allows these businesses to resume their normal operations as soon as possible.”

The four meatworks account for around 35 percent of Australia’s beef exports to China in a trade worth about Aus$1.7 billion (US$1.1 billion), according to national broadcaster ABC.

Tensions between the two have increased since Australia started calling for an independent investigation into the origin of the coronavirus outbreak, which began in China before spreading around the world, killing more than 280,000, infecting millions and shattering the global economy.

But the calls have drawn retaliatory threats from Beijing, with ambassador Cheng Jingye calling them “dangerous.”

In an interview with the Australian Financial Review last month, he said: “The Chinese public is frustrated, dismayed and disappointed with what Australia is doing now.

“If the mood is going from bad to worse, people would think ‘why should we go to such a country that is not so friendly to China?’ The tourists may have second thoughts.”

He added: “It is up to the people to decide. Maybe the ordinary people will say ‘Why should we drink Australian wine? Eat Australian beef?’”

It now appears China is ready to make good on the threat because Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has shown no intention of backing down.

Australia however is not alone in its fight against China.

As Breitbart news reported, a bipartisan U.S. Congress group has slammed China for threatening punitive economic sanctions against any country that opposes it.

The 27 senators and House of Representatives members said China had made “deeply disturbing” threats against long-term ally Australia and the U.S. will stand with the Aussies against China’s bullying.”

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/12/poland-four-men-charged-with-recruiting-terrorists-for-isis/

“Polish authorities have arrested four men from Tajikistan for allegedly trying recruiting Muslim converts in order for them to commit terrorist attacks in the name of the Islamic State (ISIS).

The Tajik men were arrested by Border Guard officers as they attempted to re-enter the country, based on evidence from Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW). The security service alleged that they were attempting to carry out terrorist activities in the country, according to government spokesman Stanislaw Zaryn.

“They were trying to recruit people who could be used to commit some kind of terrorist crimes,” Zaryn told Reuters, adding: “They were inspired by ISIS (Islamic State) … but they were not a part of the organisation.”

“Polish Internal Security Agency does not mess around,” he prounounced on social media.

The four men will be deported from the country and will be placed on a list barring them from returning to Poland or, theoretically, any other nation in the European visa-free Schengen zone.

Last month, another four men from Tajikstan were arrested in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, after authorities claimed that the men were plotting terrorist attacks on American military bases in the area…”

“A fire on Tuesday raced through a crowded camp housing Rohingya refugees in southern Bangladesh, destroying nearly 400 shanties and shops, a Bangladeshi official and the U.N.’s refugee agency said.

No casualties were immediately reported, the refugee agency said in a Facebook post.

The agency, known as the UNHCR, said the fire broke out at the Lambashia camp in Kutupalong in Cox’s Bazar district on Tuesday morning.

More than 1 million refugees live in the district bordering Myanmar, from where the refugees crossed the border into Bangladesh.

Mohammad Nikaruzzman Chowdhury, the area’s chief government official, said firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze in an hour.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, but local media said it may have been caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder kept in a shop in the area.

The UNHCR said it mobilized emergency response teams to provide the refugees with food and other items…”

  18. German court rejects Iraqi’s appeal over killing of teen (abcnews, May 12, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/german-court-rejects-iraqis-appeal-killing-teen-70632426

“A German federal court said Tuesday it has thrown out a rejected Iraqi asylum-seeker’s appeal against his conviction for raping and murdering a 14-year-old local girl.

Ali Bashar was sentenced to life in prison by the Wiesbaden state court in July following a four-month trial in a case that fueled tensions over migration. The court ruled there was a “particular severity of guilt,” meaning that he likely won’t be released after 15 years as is common in Germany.

Bashar, who was 21 at the time of the killing, was convicted of assaulting and murdering Susanna Feldman in Wiesbaden in May 2018.

Bashar and his family abruptly left a home for asylum applicants in Germany after the killing, and he was later arrested by Kurdish forces in Iraq, handed over to German police officers and flown back to Germany. Bashar is believed to have arrived in Germany in October 2015.

The Federal Court of Justice said it threw out Bashar’s appeal in an April 28 ruling. Among other objections to his conviction, he had argued that his return from Iraq constituted a “procedural impediment.””

  19. Turkey accuses five nations of forming ‘alliance of evil’ (abcnews, May 12, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-accuses-nations-forming-alliance-evil-70631713

“Turkey on Tuesday accused Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, France and the United Arab Emirates of seeking to form an “alliance of evil” after these countries issued a joint declaration denouncing Ankara’s policies in the eastern Mediterranean and Libya.

In a strongly-worded statement, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said the five countries were pursuing “regional chaos and instability” in the eastern Mediterranean and sacrificing Libyans’ “hope for democracy for the reckless aggression of dictators.”

The foreign ministers of the five countries held a teleconference on Monday to discuss the situation in the eastern Mediterranean, where Turkey has been drilling for potential hydrocarbon deposits in an offshore area where Cyprus has exclusive economic rights, as well as the situation in Libya.

Last year, Turkey signed a contested maritime border delineation deal as well as a military cooperation agreement with the internationally-recognized government in Tripoli.

Turkey says the deal grants its economic rights to a large swath of the east Mediterranean Sea and prevents any energy-related projects from moving forward without Ankara’s consent. Greece and Cyprus have protested the deal, saying it contravenes international law and infringes on their own rights in the area.

The five nations denounced what they said was Turkey’s sixth attempt in less than a year to “illegally conduct drilling operations in Cyprus’ maritime zones.”

Turkey doesn’t recognize ethnically divided Cyprus as a state and claims much of its exclusive economic zone as its own. It has dispatched warship-escorted vessels off Cyprus to drill for gas, insisting that it’s acting to protect its interests and those of Turkish Cypriots to the area’s natural resources.

Cyprus was split in 1974 when Turkey invaded after coup by supporters of union with Greece. A breakaway Turkish Cypriot state is recognized only by Turkey.

The five also protested the agreements signed with Libya’s U.N.-backed government as a violation of international law and the U.N. arms embargo in Libya.

”(The) Ministers strongly condemned Turkey’s military interference in Libya, and urged Turkey to fully respect the UN arms embargo, and to stop the influx of foreign fighters from Syria to Libya. These developments constitute a threat to the stability of Libya’s neighbors in Africa as well as in Europe,” the five nations declared.

In its response, the Turkish Foreign Ministry accused Greece and Cyprus of avoiding dialogue with Turkey and faulted Egypt for not protecting the rights and interests of its own people. It also charged the UAE of joining the others out of hostility against Turkey and blamed France for allegedly seeking to act as a “patron” to the alliance.

“We call on these countries to act in line with common sense, international laws and practices,” said Aksoy, the Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman. “Peace and stability in the region can be established with sincere and genuine dialogue, not through alliances of evil.””

The government and MSM’s daily Covid-19 daily death-rate figures are a lie. A complete, total and utter lie. They are not for one day alone, but multiple days going back over weeks which are then added together and presented to us as just one day in order to generate a larger number of deaths. 21. Russiagate fallout: What we do and don’t know about ‘how Obama knew’
    By J.E. Dyer May 11, 2020

In the last week, two big things have become clear. One is that the Department of Justice is ready to move on everything. If John Durham weren’t ready to move, America wouldn’t be seeing so much seriously convicting material emerging about many of the main actors in Russiagate and Spygate.

Once that material is made public, those actors are alerted to the scope of what is going to come out about them, and what the DOJ investigators almost certainly have. We can reasonably imagine they’re already lawyering up. What we’ve seen up to now, even including this past week, is only the tip of the iceberg.

The other big thing is the clarification that former President Obama was indeed being kept apprised of a detail like Michael Flynn’s phone calls with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

We already knew from earlier clues that discussion of the anti-Trump operation in the Obama administration went as high as the Oval Office. Right about the time Crossfire Hurricane started, John Brennan briefed Obama and a small group of senior advisers on his (Brennan’s) supposed special intelligence on a “Russia-Trump” connection from a foreign source or sources (thought by many to be the Brits). It was in the wake of this brief that the interagency task force was formed in the White House with Obama’s knowledge and approval.

  22. Fauci to warn Senate of ‘needless suffering’ if US opens too quickly: Report

Dr. Anthony Fauci and other key members of the White House coronavirus task force are set to testify remotely on the pandemic

    • You’ll Still Be Homeschooling Your Kids This Fall, Dr. Fauci Says

DURING A SENATE COMMITTEE HEARING, DR. ANTHONY FAUCI POURED COLD WATER ON THE RETURN TO FALL CLASSES.

Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed Tuesday morning that a return to school in fall “would be a bit of a bridge too far,” in a Senate Committee hearing. News of likely continued homeschooling of the nation’s children will likely be greeted with groans and frustration by harried parents struggling with the balance of working at home and also managing either remote learning or just having children home 100% of the time.

The question was asked by Senator Lamar Alexander, the Republican Senator from Tennessee who serves as Chair for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, and is leading a hearing on the coronavirus outbreak and the administration’s response.

Senator Alexander prefaced his question with “Doctor, let’s look down the road three months. There will be about 5,000 campuses across the country trying to welcome 20 million college students. 100,000 public schools welcoming 50 million students.” He then asked, “What would you say to the chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, or principal of a public school about how to persuade parents and students to return to school in August?” Watch Fauci’s reply below:

      http://content.jwplatform.com/players/6i9vS58g-WRo1FVUX.html

Fauci did not demur in his response, saying “I would tell her that, in this case, the idea of having treatments available or a vaccine to facilitate the re-entry of students into the fall term would be something that would be a bit of a bridge too far.” He then added “the drug that has shown some degree of efficacy was modest and was in hospitalized patients,” before going into specifics of what metrics need be met before students can safely return to school without significant risk of sickness.

Fauci then qualified, that what is at issue is “not treating if a student gets ill, but how to make a student feel safe going back to school.” Fauci continued: “If when he a vaccine, that would be the end. But even at the top speed we’re going, we don’t see a vaccine playing in the ability of individuals to get back to school this term.” What they really want is to know if they are safe. And that’s the question that I have to do with what we do with testing. He then handed off to Admiral Brett Giroir, who is the Coronavirus Testing Czar, and revealed an expected 20 to 30 million tests in place by September.

  23. GEORGE SOROS’ HOLD ON THE ECHR: RUSSIA COMES INTO PLAY
…one of the last voices to have risen to denounce this situation was none other than that of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which devoted an official Press release to the ECLJ report. In this text, it expresses concern about the “implicit and explicit influence on the ECHR” exerted by “major Western human rights NGOs” and states that this facts “directly affect the quality, impartiality and fairness of the court rulings.” Russia furthermore declares that “due consideration by all parties of the existing shortcomings in the ECHR activities during the reform [i.e. the current reform process of the ECHR] will make it possible to adjust and ultimately minimise the “political” side effects involved in its practice”. This statement is far-reaching in view of Russia’s diplomatic weight in Strasbourg. Its ambassador will certainly implement it firmly with the representatives of the 46 other Council of Europe member States.

  24. If you pare away Biden’s mental unfitness and rape allegations, you’re still left with his lying and plagiarism

Joe Biden is like the onion that hides out undetected for six months at the back of your refrigerator’s vegetable crisper. When you finally peel away the top layer to see if there is anything salvageable underneath, you discover instead that every layer is rotten, right down to the core.

The DNC and Biden campaign are doing their best to focus away from the Tara Reade sexual assault allegations, hoping ultimately that the scandal will devolve into a “he said, she said.” And they have worn blinders when the former vice president’s many mental and verbal gaffes have been mentioned.

But even if Team Biden is successful in quashing those unpleasant realities, it is left having to defend his propensity for making stuff up about himself and his history of intellectual property theft.

Back in February when Biden’s campaign seemed destined to crash and burn, the New York Times — never one shy away from hitting a man when he’s down — reminded its readers that “Biden has recounted a story — three times in two weeks — about being arrested on his way to see Nelson Mandela. He did not mention it in his memoir or speak prominently of it before.”

  26. DISNEY ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR A SHORT FILM ON EID

A new short film surrounding a family based in the USA who celebrate Eid is in the works.

Titled American Eid, the film is set to be released on the Walt Disney streaming platform Disney+, Mashable reports.

The film, which is still in the development stages, follows the lives of members of a Pakistani family who emigrated to America.

The main character, an eight year old girl named Ameena, wants to celebrate Eid in America, but it’s not recognised as an official holiday in the country.

As a result, she takes it upon herself to create a petition and start a campaign in order for Eid to be recognised as an official holiday in the USA.

However, the young girl meets some road bumps during her quest. One particular hurdle Ameena has to overcome is from her older sister Zara, who adopts the nickname Z in order to fit in at school. Zara pleads with her younger sister to stop her petition, to which Ameena refuses and it results in a feud between the sisters.

As of right now casting is currently underway, and the film is seeking actors who speak both Urdu and English. It also seems the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

It can be assumed OSN will most likely broadcast the short film in the Middle East once it is released, as it recently acquired exclusive distribution rights for Disney+ Originals across the region for subscribers.

  30. Mexico Demands Answers for ‘Fast and Furious’ Scheme

The Mexican government under President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wants more information about a disastrous U.S. sting operation against cartel leaders intended to lead to their arrests.

The Lopez Obrador administration, in particular, wants to know what Mexican authorities knew about the gun-walking scandal after former Attorney General Eric Holder claimed they were notified at the time of Operation Fast and Furious. (RELATED: Judicial Watch Goes After Corrupt Eric Holder)

The Obama-era scheme followed similar sting operations carried out during the George W. Bush administration.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) intended to track the movement of illegally-purchased firearms and secondarily, limit gun smuggling across the U.S.-Mexico border.

However, a 2012 review discovered that federal law enforcement authorities had only recovered approximately one-third of the 2,000 firearms sent across the border.

Mexico sheds light on note requesting answers over Obama era gun-running sting

The foreign minister of Mexico announced on Monday that he sent a diplomatic note to the U.S. requesting answers related to a gun-running sting that caused tension during the Obama administration, according to a report.

In a video posted on Twitter, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard quoted Eric Holder, the former U.S. Attorney General, as saying Mexican authorities knew about the ill-fated 2009-2011 scheme known as “Fast and Furious.”

“The [Mexican] government requests that it be provided with all the information available regarding the ‘Fast and Furious’ operation,” Ebrard said, according to Reuters.

  31. Obama’s Criminal Behavior Must Be Called Out

Honest Americans will not soon forget just how shamelessly Barack Obama proclaimed his time in office to be “scandal free.” From “Fast and Furious” to his sell-out of Israel, to his efforts to give Iran the motivation and resources to build the atom bomb, Obama’s eight years in the White House wee a nonstop cavalcade of corruption and betrayal.

But it was upon his exit from official Washington that Obama engaged in the most flagrant criminal acts were committed, as he unleashed the thoroughly compromised and weaponized Department of Justice and FBI in an effort to topple the Presidency of Donald Trump. Finally, enough stones are being overturned that Americans who want the truth can see the vermin scampering away from the light of day.

  32. Iran Begins Retreating From Syria

Islamic Republic’s plan to use Syria as forward operating base unravels.

    Ari Lieberman

Things are looking bleak for the Islamic republic these days. Iran is currently facing its worst economic crisis since the 1979 revolution. Money wasted on endless proxy wars and crippling sanctions instituted by the Trump administration have taken a heavy toll on Iran’s economy. The value of Iran’s currency, the rial, continues to plummet. On the black market, one dollar fetches 156,000 rials rendering the currency virtually worthless. Iran’s attempt to rename its currency and slash some zeros off that lopsided exchange rate will do nothing to stem the problem of hyperinflation and unemployment in the Islamic Republic.

The Chinese coronavirus has also taken its toll. Government health officials reported 109,000 confirmed cases with 6,685 deaths. That official number is almost certainly a lie and the figure for those infected and succumbing to the disease is far greater. In addition, at least 700 Iranians have died from drinking toxic methanol alcohol in the convoluted belief that this would prevent them from getting infected.

Iran’s crumbling economy and the devastating effects of the coronavirus have adversely impacted Iranian overseas terrorist funding and operations. Nowhere is this positive trend more evident than in Syria, where Iranian Quds Force operatives and allied militiamen have been taking a beating at the hands of Israel.

    • Not true.
It was a political attempt to score by Naftali Bennett, who wants to boast an achievement for the short time he’s been Minister of Defense. Unforced own-goal.

He’s being sidelined by the incoming [lousy] coalition that’s finally giving Israel a working govt after over a year of electoral turmoil. Exceptionally poor configuration of opportunists, a bloated obscenity.

Naftali is the future. He should have this high-profile security cabinet position, he deserves to be mentored. Bibi’s played crafty politics – again. Betrayed people like Naftali and Ayelet Shaked. It won’t turn out well.

Still, Naftali’s gimmick got too much oxygen. Poor move. The very best analysts, like Jonathan Spyer, had to respond. As diplomatically as possible, because Naftali and a few others will be fine leaders.

  33. Obamagate: President Trump Goes After Obama

    Daniel Greenfield

    May 10, 2020. “OBAMAGATE!”

That’s when President Donald J. Trump tweeted the one word, all-caps, one exclamation mark, that changes everything. A day earlier, the president had also tweeted Jesse Watters’ video, titled ‘Obamagate’ – the scandal at the epicenter of American politics that has had many names: “Russiagate”, the “Russia Hoax”, “Spygate”, but it’s only fitting that it should end with its true name.

This was never about the Russians and the spies were cogs in a machine who were following orders.

One man, not some nebulous organization or unaccountable bureaucracy, pushed the lever and decided to use the machinery of law enforcement and intelligence agencies to suppress the political opposition.

    A Time to Hate
    Dov Fischer

Through eight years, I accepted the rules of the game. Obama was president. He won fair and square because the Republicans serially put up two milquetoast opponents who were incapable of offering a vision or articulating a message that inspired. John McCain had been an American wartime hero who stood by his men, refused early release, and withstood torture in the “Hanoi Hilton” 40 years earlier. But he had no business running for a presidency two generations later for which he was not prepared to fight and for which he had no vision. And then came Mitt Romney, his etch-a-sketch candidacy, his binders full of women, and his Romneycare, which served as the model for the Obamacare and which was the single most galvanizing issue in 2012 for Republican conservatives. In order to throw out Obamacare, the Republican Party offered us conservatives … what, Romneycare? Tough for us conservatives to sing in that tabernacle choir.

President Trump and Vice President Pence plan to keep some distance from one another out of an abundance of caution after one of the vice president’s top aides tested positive for the coronavirus.

The two leaders plan to maintain their distance for the “immediate future” after consulting with the White House medical unit, an administration official said. The decision is the latest step put in place by the White House to try and mitigate the spread of the virus after two staffers working in the building tested positive last week.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters later Tuesday that it was Pence’s personal choice to stay away from the president.

“The vice president has made the choice to keep his distance for a few days, and I would just note that that’s his personal decision,” she said at a press briefing, adding that Pence would determine how long he would choose to keep his distance from Trump.
