The Jihad Attacks on Churches in Illinois That You Heard Nothing About

Osama E. El Hannouny, a 25-year-old man who lives in the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills, Illinois, has made his prejudices very clear, saying that he doesn’t like Christians. More than once he has acted on that dislike at churches in his area. But as his attacks don’t fit the mainstream media narrative, this article is likely to be the only place where you’ll hear about them.
Last Tuesday, when he should have been staying at home and making TikTok videos like other people his age, El Hannouny ventured out into the coronavirus-ridden wilds, heading for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palos Hills. Once he got there, he looked into the church through the doors, and saw that there were people inside (doesn’t anyone honor the coronavirus quarantine in Cook County?). Seeing his chance for jihad, El Hannouny immediately began piling leaves around the church’s gas main and air conditioning unit, making numerous trips back and forth to do so. Once he was satisfied that he had sufficient kindling, El Hannouny, according to the charges against him, set fire to the leaves.
As it happened, no one was hurt: firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and put out the fire before it did any significant damage. El Hannouny, however, continued his jihad, this time against the police who arrested him. According to Patch, “while El Hannouny was being processed, police said he started spitting at officers, reports said. El Hannouny also wrote a religious slur on the wall of his cell, according to the report. El Hannouny allegedly scratched, bit and spit at police when they tried to stop him.”
The officers who arrested him may have recognized El-Hannouny. It was only six months ago, November 17, 2019, that he showed up at two other churches in Palos Hills. With a laudable eye for ecumenical sensitivities, that time he chose the city’s First Baptist Church and the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. At both, he confined his activities to the parking lot, slashing the tires of a total of nineteen cars.
When he was arrested and asked why he had done such a thing, El Hannouny replied with unusual directness: “I don’t like Christians.” According to WBBM, he admitted to the 19 tire-slashings and was “charged with 14 counts of criminal damage to property.” El Hannouny was then “released on a personal recognize [sic] bond and electronic monitoring.” In January, authorities added on hate crime charges.
The hate crime charges didn’t deter El Hannouny from hating. For the new incident over at Sacred Heart Church, according to Patch, El Hannouny “appeared Wednesday before a Cook County judge on charges of arson, hate crimes, criminal damage to property, battery to a police officer and violation of bail bond.”
That’s all very well, and it looks as if a good case can be made against El Hannouny on all these charges, but there still remains a larger question: Why, exactly, does El Hannouny dislike Christians? Does it have anything to do with the Qur’an’s teaching that “they have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary” (5:17, 5:72), an assertion that directly contradicts the core Christian belief in the divinity of Christ? Could El Hannouny’s dislike for Christians be linked in any way to the Qur’an’s statement that those who say “Christ is the Son of Allah” are under Allah’s curse (9:30)? Might his tire-slashing and attempted arson have something to do with the Qur’an’s command to Muslims to wage war against and subjugate Christians as inferiors under the hegemony of Islamic law (9:29)?
In today’s political climate, such questions cannot be asked. And yet their pertinence goes far beyond the case of Osama E. El Hannouny. If his self-professed hatred of Christians is indeed based on Islamic teachings, did he learn that hatred at his local mosque? If that mosque is indeed teaching that Muslims should hold the people whom the Qur’an terms “the most vile of created beings” (98:6) in utter contempt, and wage jihad against them, isn’t it possibly that more Muslims besides just young Osama could be influenced to act upon these teachings? And if so, wouldn’t it be prudent for local law enforcement officials to be aware of and prepared for that possibility?
It is much more likely, however, that the local police have never been to El Hannouny’s mosque except for “outreach,” in order to assure the Muslim community of their good will. The possibility that the assurances could ever or should ever flow in the other direction is never considered, even for a moment.

Berlin Corona emergency aid scandal: Islamic hate preacher instructed Breitscheidplatz assassins
As it now turns out, the Islamist hate preacher Ahmad Armih, who unjustly collected Corona emergency aid of 18,000 euros, taught the Breitscheidplatz assassin Anis Amri and the IS terrorist and former rapper “Deso Dogg”. Born in 1973, the native Palestinian, who is preaching under the alias name of Ahmad Abul Baraa, came to Germany during the Lebanese civil war and has been doing Islamic missionary work throughout Germany for 17 years, as the tabloid “Bild” reports. In the As-Sahaba Mosque founded in 2010 in the corner of Torf-street and Sprengelstreet “Abul Baraa” radicalized and became an Imam. “In his sermons he repeatedly stirs up the fear of the revenge from Allah and the Prophet – which affects all those who do not strictly observe the regulations of the Koran,” the newspaper reports. Undeterred by the investigations of the public prosecutor’s office, which seized parts of the allegedly ripped-off Corona aid money during a house search this week, the Salafist continues to preach on the Internet and spread his fundamentalist, anti-constitutional views. Already in December 2018, Armih was the target of a raid at the As-Sahaba Mosque: At that time, 16,000 euros in cash and data material were seized; just as with the Corona money that had just been fraudulently obtained, there were also strong suspicions that the hate preacher could still be supporting IS terrorists in the Middle East war zones, according to the tabloid “Bild”.
Now it became public that among Armih’s listeners were, among others, the rapper “Deso Dogg”, who later became an IS murderer in Syria, as well as the Breitscheidplatz terrorist Anis Amri. According to “Bild”, he also maintained close contacts with Reda Seyam, the Egyptian terrorist who is considered the mastermind behind the terrorist attacks in Bali in October 2002, which left 150 dead. The fact that the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution had him under surveillance in the face of such connections makes it all the more incomprehensible that the Berlin development bank IBB paid out unchecked Corona aid money to Armih, who was officially registered as a welfare recipient.
In Berlin, the Salafist scene is growing about twice as fast as in the rest of Germany: in 2019, the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution counted 1120 people here among the milieu of the toughest Islamists – according to its boss Michael Fischer, this was 100 persons more than in the previous year and corresponds to an increase of ten percent. “Bild” sums up: “Berlin may have a bigger Salafist problem than the republic as a whole”.

“Earlier this week, the US said that 11 vessels from the IRGC Navy had been spotted at a dangerously close distance to US ships in the Gulf.
Iran will give a ‘decisive’ response to any US provocation in the Gulf, the country’s Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy said, as quoted by Reuters.
“We advise the Americans to follow international regulations and maritime protocols in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and to refrain from any adventurism and false and fake stories,” the statement from the Guards navy said, as cited by the agency.
“They should be assured that the Revolutionary Guards navy and the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran sees the dangerous actions of foreigners in the region as a threat to national security and its red line and any error in calculation on their part will receive a decisive response,” the statement reportedly added.
The IRGC Navy added that it has increased patrols in the Gulf.
It also confirmed that it was involved in a confrontation with the US Navy in the region last week.
On Wednesday, the US said that 11 vessels of the Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy had come too close to US Navy and Coast Guard ships in the Gulf. Washington referred to the move as “dangerous and provocative”.
Tensions between Iran and the US intensified in January following the killing of Iran’s top military commander Qasem Soleimani by a US drone strike at the Baghdad international airport. Shia militia commander Abu Mahdi Muhandis was also killed in the attack. Washington alleged that the two commanders had been involved in the attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad in December 2019.
Tehran responded to Soleimani’s killing by carrying out airstrikes against two US military bases in Iraq.”
Iranian Navy intercept US warship in the Persian Gulf
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) released a video on Sunday of what it says shows the interception of a US Navy in the Persian Gulf last week.
The release comes after the US reported that 11 small-sized Iranian boats allegedly encircled six US ships on April 15. Tehran slammed the report as ‘a Hollywood tale’, criticising the US Navy for disinformation.
The Iranian Navy said that a fleet of 11 boats encountered the US warships which repeatedly ignored warnings issued by IRGC, advising the US “to obey International Law of the Sea and the maritime protocols when navigating in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and to refrain from any false or misleading adventures and narratives.”

Riots have been erupting across countries in Africa as the coronavirus and lockdown procedures installed in a bid to try and slow down its spread have dramatically exacerbated food shortages, reported the Daily Mail.
Several violent protests have broken out across South Africa over access to food parcels being handed out by authorities, with people defying social distancing measures, hurling rocks at police and setting up street barricades. Police have been dispersing angry crowds with tear gas and rubber bullets.
“Mr President we are in the middle of a food crisis. It’s war out here!” This plea on social media from a community leader in Mitchells Plain township in Cape Town, South Africa, underscored the volatility of the situation.
Joanie Fredericks addressed the plea to President Cyril Ramaphosa over the five-week lockdown imposed to try and slow down the spread of the coronavirus.
As huge crowds have been queuing for food distributed by Fredericks and other volunteers, the community leader voiced his fears for how things might spiral further out of control.
“When we started out feeding people we started out with the very vulnerable, …the children, the disabled people and the pensioners. But we are way past that Mr President, we are past the stage of sending people away,” an emotional Fredericks pleaded.
Residents were quoted as saying hunger has driven people to loot shops in Cape Town, with skirmishes breaking out, as the fourth week of a 35-day shutdown installed on 27 March led to many losing their informal earnings.
“There’s a bunch of us at home getting fat and there’s a bunch of people who really have nothing… And it speaks a lot about the inequalities in South Africa (that) are likely to come out,” Julian May, director of the Centre of Excellence in Food Security, at the University of the Western Cape was cited as saying.
The official added:
“As people are not getting food parcels or hear of other people getting parcels they are starting to react. And I don’t think that’s going to ease unless there’s more rapid delivery of food to people in poor areas.”
The Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) issued a warning that “there is every likelihood of violent conflict, including widespread looting”, amidst videos shared on social media showing supermarkets being stormed in recent days.
In Lesotho, an enclave within the borders of South Africa, the army was mobilised to deal with the unrest.
In an address on public television on 18 April Lesotho’s prime minister Thomas Thabane announced troops would be “restoring order”.
“This is to avoid putting the nation in danger,” said Thabane.
In Nigeria the government announced that Abba Kyari, chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, had died of COVID-19.
Earlier, there were reports of several government ministers and a US ambassador becoming infected with the coronavirus in Burkina Faso.
Zimbabwe, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its independence on 18 April, eschewed the traditional pomp due to a coronavirus lockdown, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressing the population on national television to voice optimism regarding efforts to contain the spread of the virus in the country, which to date has only 24 cases.
As the three-week lockdown earlier imposed ends this Sunday, the President thanked citizens and donor countries “for the collective response” in trying to fighting the pandemic.
Looming Fears of Food Insecurity
Earlier, the UN warned that areas of the developing world, particularly in Africa, risked famine as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Deploring the fact that lockdowns and travel restrictions were impeding humanitarian relief efforts, experts were cited by the Guardian as warning the current unrest starting to grip the continent could spiral out of control.
“From a food security perspective, some places are very close to famine… The number of people on the verge of being extremely vulnerable was already very high. What we fear is that this number will further increase because of the impact of Covid-19 on food security,” Dominique Burgeon, the director of emergencies at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was quoted as saying.
Compounding the pandemic crisis was the fact that swathes of the horn of Africa were struggling to deal with swarms of locusts attacking crops, in the worst outbreak registered in over 70 years.
Already prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, some 20 million people were estimated to be in danger of food insecurity.
Africa has currently registered more than 1,000 deaths from COVID-19, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on 18 April, with a reported total of 52 of Africa’s 54 countries acknowledging cases of the disease.
On 17 April the World Health Organization said a 51 per cent increase in cases in Africa and a 60 per cent spike in the death toll had been registered in the past week, while warning that a shortage of testing could signify “the real numbers are higher than reported.””

Spain’s coronavirus death toll slows, with lowest increase in about a month
MADRID (Reuters) – Spain’s death toll from the new coronavirus outbreak rose by 410 on Sunday, down from 565 on Saturday, the Health Ministry said, the lowest daily increase in about a month in one of the world’s hardest hit countries.
The total number of deaths reached 20,453.
The daily increase was the lowest since March 22. It is far below the highest daily increase – 950 deaths reported on April 2 – in a sign of a slowdown of the spread of the virus after Spain imposed a strict lockdown in mid-March.

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Suppressing Hong Kong’s democracy movement is a priority for China, even in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, a top pro-democracy leader said on Sunday, a day after police arrested him and 14 others in a surprise crackdown.
The United States and others criticised the arrest of the 15 on charges of organising and participating in anti-government protests last year, the biggest crackdown on the pro-democracy movement since the outbreak of the protests almost a year ago.

Archaeologists find treasure trove of Assyrian kings discovered in ISIS excavated tunnels (express, Apr 18, 2020)

ISIS fighters discovered an ancient Assyrian palace under the ruins of Mosul, but unfortunately, they looted and sold off the tantalising treasures they discovered.
The previously unknown palace of the Assyrian kings was discovered when the terrorist group blew up the tomb of the prophet Jonah for ideological reasons. Archaeologists spent two months exploring the tunnels dug by ISIS under the destroyed tomb. The tunnels were found to lead to the military palace founded by Assyrian King Sennacherib in the 7th century BC.
Professor Peter Miglus, the archaeologist who has led work at the site, said that gold kept by Sennacherib may have been discovered by ISIS.
He said: “We can presume many very valuable objects must now be on the black market.”
The archaeologists found gold objects littered within the tunnels that were discarded by ISIS.
Gold from ancient Egypt, such as a gold scarab ring and a small sceptre with the ankh, the pharaonic symbol that represents life are still at the site.
Professor Miglus maintains the fact Isis overlooked these objects suggests it seized and sold many more.
The archaeologists also uncovered two panels that, unusually, show women facing outwards, and carrying plants.
Nearly all Assyrian reliefs are of men, in profile.
Professor Miglus, of Heidelberg University, said the excavations carried out by Isis had identified the palace throne room, the largest of any in the palaces.
He acknowledged the irony that this work was possible only because of Isis’s attempts to destroy history.
He said: “It makes me unhappy to say that this work makes me happy.”
Sales of looted antiquities were the second-biggest source of income for the jihadists, after oil smuggling.
Attempts to excavate the site in the 19th and 20th centuries were curtailed for fear of disturbing the shrine and offending local people.
Modern-day Mosul stands on the ruins of the city of Nineveh.

To generate two of the problems, the Bernie supporter who actually displayed a swastika banner didn’t have to be present at the Operation Gridlock protest in Lansing, Michigan on April 15, 2020. And he wasn’t, as far as we know. But it was possible for social media to make it look as if he was.
There, in a nutshell, are the first two problems. The explanation follows.
“Operation Gridlock” is the organizing name for demonstrations being mounted across the country to protest the economic shutdowns intended to deter the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. “Due to the lockdown measures put in place to combat the Wuhan coronavirus, illegal drug shortages have increased both prices and tensions among French dealers.
Local drug traffickers across France have adapted, and some have begun selling through mobile apps like Snapchat and Whatsapp, as well as organising deliveries in local supermarkets and their car parks.
In many areas, such as the no-go Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis, street-level drug dealing has all but vanished. However, districts in cities like Lyon have seen a resurgence in drug trafficking, Le Parisien reports.
According to France’s Anti-Drug Office (OFAST), shortages have been seen across the entire country due to the closing of borders. But the body said road travel could become the new preferred way of smuggling drugs due to the more lax restrictions compared to air travel.
A police officer stationed in the city of Perpignan also claimed that violence from small-time drug dealers has been active despite the lockdown, saying: “There is not an evening when control isn’t lost.”
“Just ten days ago, the vehicle of our colleagues from the canine brigade was hit. It is obvious that these refusals to comply are linked to narcotics,” the officer added.

Protesters laid fake body bags in the road outside the Trump International Hotel in New York City on Saturday, to protest US President Donald Trump’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“He is completely incompetent at his job. He tries to pretend like it’s 1980s board room, and it’s not. You do not gamble with people’s lives. That is morally bankrupt. Granted, he barely had any morals to begin with, but still,” said Vanessa, a protester.
Christian, another protester, said, “He is using this virus as a pretext. If we don’t stand up now we may not have a democracy. He may use this as a way of fully putting a fascist agenda, which is anti-women’s rights, which is anti-free speech, which denies that there’s climate change in the same way that he denied there was an issue with this virus until it was too late. One of Greece’s largest refugee camps has been extensively damaged in a fire, hours after the death of an Iraqi woman living there sparked unrest, officials said on Sunday.
The fire late on Saturday at Vial camp on Chios island destroyed the facilities of the European asylum service, a camp canteen, tents and many housing containers, Migration Ministry Secretary Manos Logothetis told AFP.
“A large part of the camp’s administrative services was destroyed,” said Logothetis, adding that no injuries were reported.
A local police source said three persons had been detained in relation to the unrest, which erupted after a 47-year-old asylum seeker from Iraq died in the camp on Saturday.
“We managed to restore order at around 1am… There were many people who took part in the incidents,” the officer said.
The Iraqi woman had been taken with a fever to a local hospital earlier this week. At the time, a test for coronavirus had returned negative, state news agency ANA reported Saturday.
Refugee camps in Greece have been under quarantine in recent weeks, with authorities trying to keep residents apart from locals.
The virus has so far killed 110 people in Greece. Another 67 are in intensive care.
There have been coronavirus cases in two camps on the mainland.
As with all of Greece’s island camps, Vial is massively overcrowded. There are more than 5,000 people living in space intended for around 1,000.

Doria has imposed strict quarantine measures in the state, which has been the most heavily impacted by the coronavirus, with the former Bolsonaro ally repeatedly publicly disagreeing with the president over his government’s response since the beginning of the outbreak.
Similar protests were also held in other major Brazilian cities.
Brazil has reported over 36,000 coronavirus cases since the start of the outbreak. Over 2,300 people have died who were established to have contracted the virus.

Global Citizen concert criticized for helping raise money for WHO
Global Citizen’s star-studded “One World: Together at Home” concert came under fire as some criticized the televised event for raising money for the World Health Organization’s coronavirus response.
The two-hour primetime show curated by Lady Gaga raised more than $150 million for the organization’s Solidarity Response Fund, organizers said.
Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder, former US first ladies Michelle Obama and Laura Bush, Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion and Taylor Swift all participated in the special.

“Some 550 illegal boat migrants have reached British shores from France during the period in which the two countries introduced national lockdown measures to stem the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.
Data released from the Home Office revealed that at least 481 migrants illegally crossed the English Channel since the start of the British lockdown and an additional 69 people were brought ashore the week prior, despite France having already announced lockdown restrictions.
In camps in Calais and Dunkirk which house an estimated 1,500 migrants, at least 9 migrants have been confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus. Despite the fear of an outbreak in the camps, the British government is not testing every illegal migrant for the illness.
The former general-secretary of the Immigration Services Union (ISU), Lucy Moreton, told The Times that: “On a purely statistical basis, someone has to have brought it over”.
Moreton said that migrants were not being tested when they are brought ashore or when they are moved to local council areas, where they are rehoused while they are processed. The Home Office claims that any migrants displaying symptoms of the virus are tested, but Moreton warned that it was difficult to spot signs of the illness after the arduous journey over the Channel.
“When a Border Force vessel picks these people up, there’s no way of assessing symptoms. They are cold, wet and often seasick,” she said.
The Home Office figures do not count migrants that were caught on the French side of the channel and only represent those migrants that were actually detected illegally entering the country by the UK Border Force.
Attempting to enter the United Kingdom illegally by boat or other means does not mean that a migrant will automatically be deported. Migrants are instead brought ashore and given the opportunity to apply for asylum — despite the fact that France is a safe, first world country — in line with European Union regulations which Britain is still bound by.
In 2019, just fifteen per cent of all illegal boat migrants were deported.
People-smugglers in France have been charging £13,000 per person for crossing the Channel, up from £7,000 since autumn. In October, Breitbart London reported that the police in France were accused of assisting people-smugglers traffick migrants into Britain, notifying the criminals as to the best times to make illegal crossings.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has claimed that she is “determined” to halt the flow of illegal boat migrants over the English Channel.
“Criminal gangs are using false promises to take advantage of desperate situations and illegally smuggle people into the UK,” she said per the BBC.
“We are continuing to support the French to deploy extra patrols on French beaches, drones, specialist vehicles and detection equipment to stop these boats leaving European shores,” Patel added.
There are no signs the British government intends to start turning around illegal migrants reaching British shores or territorial waters and escorting them back to France immediately, however.”

The European Union is Dead but Does Not Yet Know It
The new coronavirus appears to be tearing apart the fragile framework of the European Union.
“Europe” said the former Commission chief and a EU godfather, Jacques Delors, “is in “mortal danger”.
If citizens feel themselves abandoned at the heart of the pandemic, said Former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, the EU could “collapse”.
The EU objective was evidently supposed to be an “ever closer union”. But now, if the EU does not show solidarity and strength at a time of global crisis, what is the EU’s purpose? Its ideological supporters have a mantra: each new problem must be solved by more Europe. “Europe is our future, we have no other”, Germany’s former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher once said.
Although these are important and dramatic statements, each time it is as if something even more important and dramatic needs to happen to shake people awake, as if the European Union is never actually seen as dying.
Sadly, these high-flown phrases seem to shrivel into empty slogans.
The truth is that there is no “Union”. There is a conglomerate of European states trying to take advantage of some rules called “the union”. In times of crisis, old European divisions always seem to reopen — and crises are part of the old continent, possibly its epitaph.

Another headline shrieks: “Total Economic Shutdown in America!”
A third headline claims: “All 50 States of America in the Grip of National Catastrophe!”
Another headline says that “America Is in Its Coffin” while its admirers are still begging for its attention.

Facebook ‘Fact Checker’ Worked At Wuhan Biolab; Ruled Out Virus-Leak While ‘Debunking’ Articles
A Facebook fact checker who has ‘debunked’ articles suggesting that COVID-19 may have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) has a giant conflict of interest; she worked at the institute – which is now suspected of accidentally leaking the hyper-virulent virus which has killed over 130,000 people and cast the global economy into chaos.
Danielle Anderson, who works at Duke University’s NUS Medical School lab in Singapore, also contributes to Science Feedback – which Facebook has been using to slap “False Information” labels on articles claiming that COVID-19 may have originated at the Wuhan institute – where Anderson worked with bat coronavirus.
A quick search of Anderson’s publications reveals no fewer than nine collaborations with Dr. Peng Zhou – a Wuhan scientist experimenting on bat coronavirus (the mention of whom may result in a Twitter ban).

“Police officers in Telford, England, have arrested seven men after uncovering what they believe to be an illegal slaughterhouse at a blood-spattered residential address.
Officers reported discovering “a disturbing scene” at an address on Charles Road, Arleston, “with a large amount of blood on the driveway.”
An official West Mercia Police appeal describes how officers found “three sheep in a very poor state of health and one already sadly dead” at the alleged abattoir, along with seven males aged between 18 and 36 who have been arrested on suspicion of theft.
“Illegal butchery and sheep theft are serious offences,” commented Inspector Craig Smith on behalf of the police force.
“Not only are there risks in consuming meat when it isn’t from a reputable source but illegal butchery can also cause unnecessary suffering to the animal. Rural crime such as this also has a serious emotional and financial impact on our farming communities, of course, [and] there are financial repercussions to farmers whose animals are stolen.”
West Merica Police are urging people to “to report suspicious sales of meat” in the wake of their discovery, citing reference 0765s 16 April 2020.
“I would ask our communities across the whole West Mercia police area to contact us if you think someone is selling illegal meat,” Smith added.
“I would also like to ask those in our more rural areas to report suspicious activity around farmland, particularly whilst there is less traffic on the road due to the current lockdown. By reporting anything suspicious in or near fields of livestock you can make a significant difference to helping us stop this type of crime.”
The incident follows the trial of three migrants accused of the “slow and painful killing” of hundreds of sheep on farms across the East Midlands countryside in 2019, for the purposes of selling their meat.

China to ban online gaming, chatting with foreigners outside Great Firewall
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — After blocking a popular Nintendo game “Animal Crossing,” the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is taking its political censorship to the extreme by disconnecting Chinese online gamers from their guildmates outside China.
On April 10, China banned the popular social simulation video game in which gamers can create a home and interact with cute animal villagers, owing to Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong (???) revealing a customized scene in the game which reads “Free Hong Kong” and mocks Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Several other players were also found leveraging the game to vent their discontent with the CCP and making satirical content related to the CCP’s failure to tackle the virus.
The communist regime is said to have noticed an authority vacuum in online multiplayer games, which enables people to freely socialize without monitoring. Local metropolises are scrambling to draft laws to expand the scope of online censorship in video games and even prohibit gamers from meeting and chatting with people on the other side of the Great Firewall, according to LTN, which cited news from a Chinese gaming forum.
One-player online games will also be subject to surveillance, as a new real-name mechanism is going to be implemented in China. Also, the new law will not allow for zombies and plagues, map editing, roleplaying, as well as organizing a union in games — regulations which are believed to be inspired by the sensitive content made by Joshua Wong.
As the CCP’s audacious global propaganda campaign to silence critics abroad and to defend its infallibility fails to work out, the new law is expected to block Chinese people from learning how the world is reacting to Beijing’s handling of the outbreak and subsequent cover-ups.
