  2. The Shrine lickers – Think of them and the results of their actions as evolution in action, the shrine lickers are due to be selected to leave the gene pool. When this happens the average intellegence level of the human race will go up a fraction of a percentage point.

  3. Iran: Flogging isn’t the best punishment. They should sentence them to washing the walls of the shrine with high-powered bleach. Trust Islam not to come up with a decent solution to a problem.

    Cigarette smoke: Very interesting deduction about the second-hand smoke and building resistance.

    • The Jerusalem Post had official pictures from the Iranian government of cleaners in Hazmat suits steam-cleaning the shrines. Probably NOT at Iranian news sites.

      Africa lucks out, but people with underlying medical conditions and old white men may as well be Chinese. That includes me and people I love. A good share of the Vlad Tepes family.

      And these viruses all mutate, they get better – more efficient – as they spread. The first wave of the Spanish Flu was comparatively mild; the second was the Kill-Off.

  5. Yeah, that’s what the epidemiologists in Japan are saying. They hit on smoking right away as the major factor for elevated risk to older males.

    Everybody in the field is working on bat-borne coronaviruses. There are at least 400 of them. MERS comes from bats who passed it to camels, but some of these viruses jump to humans and don’t cause appreciable illness.

    The research is important – there’s a race to develop vaccines and treatments as intense as the race to the moon. Of course, it’s inherently dual-use technology, a potential weaponize. But I wouldn’t discount the prestige motive for the PRC.
