Reader’s Links for February 10, 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Shocking video footage has captured the moment a group of youths terrorised Woolworths staff and customers in Melbourne’s southeast, attacking one of them with a baseball bat.
The incident occurred at the Thompsons Road Woolworths in Lyndhurst on Sunday night just before 9pm.
The group of young men wearing dark hoodies reportedly filled up a trolley full of items and attempted to leave when staff members tried to intervene.
In the footage published by 3AW, two men can be seen arguing with the women behind the counter before one of them throws an object at them.
Another man approaches from the other side of the counter and hits one of the employees with a bat.
Several customers chased the group into the parking lot and fought with them.
Local man Rob Metz told 3AW he handed his belongings to the cashier and ran outside. He punched three of the four offenders, who then ran back to their car to grab a large kitchen knife.
“I saw the worker lady assaulted as they were leaving,” he said.
“She was trying to take stuff out of (the trolley) and that’s when they elbowed her in the chest or the neck and she fell back into the door. That’s what kind of pissed me off, when I saw the lady get knocked over. It turned something in my brain and I wasn’t really thinking.”
A Woolworths spokesman said, “There is no place for this aggression and violence anywhere in our community and our thoughts are with those caught up in the incident.”
The spokesman thanked staff for acting quickly to lock down the store in line with Woolworths’ safety procedures.
“We’ve been supporting Victoria Police with its investigations and will continue to help in any way we can,” he said. “We’ve also moved to strengthen the security presence at the store.”
It’s understood no Woolworths staff were injured and counselling has been offered.
Victoria Police say the suspects remain at large.
“Police are investigating following an affray at a Lyndhurst shopping centre yesterday evening,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.
“Investigators have been told a group of five or six youths a Capital Promenade business and attempted to steal a shopping trolley of items about 9pm. A number of people attempted to prevent the group leaving the store and a scuffle ensued before the group fled the scene.”
Police say the group then returned about 15 minutes later and a second scuffle ensued. It’s not clear whether the video published by 3AW captured the first or second incident.
“No one was seriously hurt in either of the incidents,” the spokesman said.
“The youths were all males perceived to be of African appearance. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

  4. Iran Says It Will Be Forced to Revise Its Participation in NPT if Western Countries Keep Up Pressure (sputniknews, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202002101078273484-iran-says-it-will-be-forced-to-revise-its-participation-in-npt-if-western-countries-keep-up/

“Tehran, regarding its participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), said it has no intention of quitting this deal.

Iran will have to revise its participation in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if the West proceeds with its pressure on the country, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said during a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya international news agency on Monday.

“As you know, the parliament of Iran has recently been involved in discussing the issue of leaving the NPT. That is why, of course, if Iranians, the Iranian Parliament, and government see that…the pressure continues, they will have to make other decisions”, Jalali said.

However, the ambassador added that Tehran remains committed to the NPT and also has no plans to quit the JCPOA.

“As far as the JCPOA is concerned, Iran is a participant in this deal and has certain commitments under this deal…These five steps which we have made – we have always said that they are reversible…As of today, we have no intention of quitting the JCPOA”, Jalali said.

Last month, the Iranian Parliament introduced a motion for the country to quit the NPT following an announcement by the country’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif that Iran would leave the treaty if its nuclear issue was referred to the United Nations Security Council.

Mr Zarif’s remarks came as a response to a decision earlier made by Germany, France and the UK to launch the Dispute Resolution Mechanism within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This came after Iran had announced that it was rolling back its obligations under the JCPOA amid a renewed escalation of tensions with the US over the killing of Iran’s top military commander Qasem Soleimani in early January.

The JCPOA is an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme reached in 2015 by Iran and the five permanent members of the UNSC: China, Russia, France, United Kingdom, United States plus Germany. The deal provided that Iran would limit its nuclear activities in exchange for reduced economic sanctions. In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington was withdrawing from the JCPOA, calling it “a horrible one-sided deal” that “didn’t bring peace, and it never will”. The move was criticised by the other signatories to the deal, with European leaders promising to preserve the agreement.”

  5. ‘Only Descendants of Demon Can Wear Burqa’: Indian State Minister Calls for Ban on Islamic Veil (sputniknews, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/india/202002101078272335-only-descendants-of-demon-can-wear-burqa-indian-state-minister-calls-for-ban-on-islamic-veil/

“A minister from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has stirred up a hornet’s nest by demanding a ban on the burqa or veil, which is part of traditional Muslim attire for women.

Raghuraj Singh, minister of state at the labour ministry in Uttar Pradesh, was speaking at a Sunday event in Agra when he asked the government to ban the burqa, claiming that Muslim women wear the traditional veil because they were the descendants of Suparnakha, a mythological character in a Hindu epic Ramayana, whose nose was chopped off by Lakshman, brother and companion of Lord Rama, during his 14-year penance in the forests.

Singh went on with his explosive remarks by saying that burqas are worn by terrorists to conceal their identity, while referring to protests by women against a controversial citizenship law. This legislation grants citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who arrived in India before 2015, but leaves out Muslim immigrants.

“The system of burqa has come from Arab [sic]. They hide their face because Lord Lakshman had cut off their ears and nose. They wear burqas because they are the descendants of the demon. Only the descendants of demons can wear a burqa. No ordinary person can wear a burqa. I would also appeal to the country’s government to ban burqas because terrorists enter our country, wearing burqas. So, my fellow citizens, we have to unite because it is necessary to eliminate these goons”, Singh was heard saying in a video clip.

The statement triggered a debate on social media as several backed the minister over the ban while saying that India should follow in the footsteps of Sri Lanka, which ordered a complete prohibition on all types of veils including burqas…”

  6. Woman’s Finger Bitten Off in Norwegian Mosque Fight (sputniknews, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202002101078271996-womans-finger-bitten-off-in-norwegian-mosque-fight/

“At 8,000 members, the Tawfiiq Islamic Centre is Norway’s largest single mosque, founded by members of the Somali diaspora.

Two women started a fight inside Oslo’s Åkebergveien Mosque on Sunday evening. One of them lost her finger in the process.

The fight occurred between a woman in her 30s and a woman in her 50s at the Tawfiiq Islamic Centre in Oslo, national broadcaster NRK reported. The woman in her 50s has been arrested and charged with bodily harm. Her victim was taken to a local hospital.

“Police and ambulance are on the site at Åkebergveien over a fight. Two women had been fighting, and a finger was bitten off. The affected has been taken to the ambulance”, the police tweeted.

?According to the police, the lost finger was also found and taken to the hospital as well. The police were notified by a caller from the mosque, who reported that the bitten woman was suffering from heavy bleeding and was unconscious.

“It is too early to say anything about the relationship between the two women. We don’t know for sure what the reason for the fighting is”, Oslo Police operations leader Christian Krohn Engeseth said about the incident. “There is footage from the mosque’s surveillance camera that we will now look into”, Engeseth said. “We have an idea of what this is about, but there is nothing we want to say more about now”, he added.
Many people were present in the mosque on Sunday night, according to police. The woman in her 30s will be questioned as soon as she has finished receiving treatment.

“We do not know if the doctors can save her finger, but that is the goal, of course”, Engeseth stressed.

The Tawfiiq Islamic Centre is located in Åkebergveien and is Norway’s largest single mosque. Incidentally, it is located in close proximity to a police station. It was founded by members of the Somali diaspora and has close to 8,000 members.

According to the Pew Research Centre, 5.7 percent of Norway’s population are Muslim. The Somali diaspora is one of the largest, numbering close to 30,000 people.”

  8. Lorry migrants tell French guards they want to LEAVE Britain (express, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1240016/lorry-migrants-french-guards-britain

“SHOCKED border guards have caught a lorryload of illegal immigrants trying to flee the UK – saying they fear for their rights now Britain has left the EU. Calais customs found the 33 stowaways in a lorry from Dover – reversing the usual tide of migrants trying to reach the UK.

It comes as Britain saw a record one-day high of 102 migrants crossing the English Channel on Friday. The group found at Calais had sneaked on to a container lorry which boarded a Danish-owned DFDS ferry. A border source said: “They told security they were leaving because they feared how they would be treated post-Brexit.

“They said they were worried their rights would be curtailed when we are no longer in the EU.” By Saturday night, 31 of the group, 27 men and four women, were back in the UK, held in immigration centres.

An agreement between France’s Police Aux Frontieres and the UK’s Border Force allows both countries to send back illegal immigrants if they are asylum seekers or criminals.

The Home Office said more than 100 people arriving illegally in the UK had been returned to France in the last three years under the arrangement.

The 102 people who tried to reach the UK on Friday eclipsed the previous day’s record of 90. French authorities said they stopped another 30.

Millions of pounds have been spent on security measures, including drones and coastline patrols to stop migrants getting into Britain. At least 180 tried to cross from France, between January 20 and 26. But yesterday ministers said measures to tackle the smugglers were working.

Security minister Brandon Lewis said: “We are tackling illegal migrant crossings on all fronts, right alongside our French and Belgian partners.

“The majority of migrants who attempt this journey are being stopped. Only 25 per cent have made it to the UK this year, compared with 48 per cent
    last year.””

  9. The Guardian Warns of Impending ‘Climate Catastrophe’ (breitbart, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/environment/2020/02/10/the-guardian-warns-of-impending-climate-catastrophe/

“The Guardian has reasserted its role as flagship publication of climate alarmism, warning Monday that entire cities in the UK could be under water by the end of the century.

Without “urgent action to adapt to and confront global heating,” the Guardian declares, Europe could face “possible forest fires, floods, droughts and deluges” by the year 2100.

Referring to a series of maps plotting possible effects from greenhouse gas emissions scenarios and climate models, Guardian writer Jennifer Rankin states that climate change could produce a one-metre rise in sea levels over the next 80 years, which would mean “90% of the surface of Hull would be under water.”

These maps of Europe predict the “scale of climate catastrophe” Europe will face, Ms. Rankin writes, which could include massive flooding of English cities such as “Norwich, Margate, Southend-on-Sea, Runcorn and Blackpool.”

As the UK battles floods, “large areas of Spain, Portugal and France would be grappling with desertification, with the worst-affected zones experiencing a two and half-fold increase in droughts under the worst-case scenario,” she writes.

Such predictions, as wacky as they may sound, are very safe to make since they cannot be verified for eighty years, giving their creators plenty of time to modify their doomsday prophecies as reality requires…”

  10. Six Arrested in Swedish City Under Suspicion of Manufacturing Bombs (breitbart, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/02/10/six-arrested-swedish-city-suspicion-manufacturing-bombs/

“Swedish police in the city of Helsingborg have arrested six people following a raid on a local apartment building where explosive materials were found.

The individuals, who are said to be in their 20s and 30s, are suspected of making explosives and building bombs.

Local police chief Sven Holgersson commented on the raids, saying: “There were also explosives and accessories found for creating detonations.”

The raid came as part of the nationwide crackdown on organised gang violence known as Operation Rimfrost, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports.

“We have an offensive approach to curb and prevent the explosions that are happening nationally, regionally, and also here in Helsingborg,” Holgersson said.

Just several hours after the raid of the apartment, the city saw a large explosion at a social service building on Friday evening, causing damage to the entrance along with damage to windows and other parts of the structure.

“It was just before 1 am that it exploded. There is no suspect. We are serious about the targeting of authority. It is a crime against democracy,” Holgersson said following the incident.

“The bomb exploded in the entrance of the social services administration building, so we assume that it is aimed at them. We do not currently know if there have been any threats made to them,” he added.

The bombing is not the first in Helsingborg labelled as a crime against democracy. In October 2017, there was a bombing to the Helsingborg police station which caused heavy damage to the facade of the building. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven criticised the attack.

“The bombing of a police station in Helsingborg is extremely serious. An attack on the police is, in the long run, an attack on our democracy,” Löfven said.

Last year, Sweden saw a total of 257 explosions and bombings and just seven convictions in connection with them. The surge has led opposition party politicians, such as Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson, to criticise the government’s handling of the situation.

“The situation has thus escalated sharply and according to the police, there is no international equivalent,” Kristersson said.”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/gunmen-motorcycles-attack-police-post-northern-benin-68880694

“Men armed with rifles and machetes attacked a police station in Benin ne ar the border with troubled Burkina Faso, raising fears that Islamic extremist violence could be encroaching even further south, officials said.

One policeman was killed and another wounded in the attack in the village of Mekrou-Djimdjim at dawn on Sunday and the gunmen then set fire to the building, according to a statement by a police spokesman.

The attack took place near one of the wildlife areas known as W National Park straddling the borders of northern Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger. In the Pendjari National Park further west, two French tourists were kidnapped last May and their guide was killed.

Observers have expressed growing fears that Islamic extremist groups could be extending their reach further south.

Islamic militants grabbed hold of the major towns in northern Mali in 2012, only to be dispersed by a French-led military intervention the following year. Since 2015, neighboring Burkina Faso has been beset by jihadist attacks and now there are concerns about the northern regions of Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast becoming the next front.”

  14. Iranian Regime Cracks Down on ‘Indecently Dressed’ Mannequins in Shops
    Comments Permalink

“The police official also warned online clothing retailers that display their products in an un-Islamic fashion.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB8DYG4hG4k
Not stopping at imprisoning and torturing women for refusing to wear Sharia-mandated hijab, the Iranian regime is now cracking down on ‘indecently dressed’ mannequins in shops, the Iranian state-controlled media reported. Iranian police are screening shop windows for any violation of the Sharia dress-code and shutting down retailers found in violation. They also “warned online clothing retailers that display their products in an un-Islamic fashion,” news reports say.

Iranian women are forced to follow the strict Islamic dress-code put in place by the regime once it grabbed power in 1979. Women taking off the hijab, the mandatory Islamic headscarf, in defiance of the Sharia Law, can face rape, torture, and long prison terms in Iran.

The Czech Republic-based Radio Free Europe reported the Iranian crackdown on ‘un-Islamic’ dress-code:

A Tehran Police official on Friday said indecently dressed mannequins that weaken “the culture of modesty and hijab” and “promote immorality” will be removed by the police from shop windows.

Colonel Nader Moradi, Deputy Commander of the Greater Tehran Police for Supervision of Commercial Venues, said the Police will implement its program to “regulate clothing retailers” in Tehran from Saturday. Implementation of the program will continue until the Iranian New Year holidays which start on March 21, the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted him as saying.

Women’s clothing in Tehran’s many shops and shopping centers is often displayed on headless dummies with bare legs, arms and even shoulders. Women cannot appear in public wearing the same attire.

The Police Colonel said the rules and regulations have already been explained to clothing retailers and to implement the program officers in charge of supervision of public venues will continuously visit retail shops, remove the mannequins and shut down the shops that have infringed.

In August 2019, The regime sentenced a women rights activist for 24 years, including 15 for “spreading prostitution by taking off her hijab.” 20-year-old Saba Kord Afshari had refused to wear the hijab in public. In an attempt to intimidate other Iranian women from taking Afshari’s example, the regime made a video of her confessing to the “crime.” Vida Movahed, who became the iconic symbol of the 2017 anti-hijab protests for climbing up on a utility box and waving her hijab on a stick, was handed down a one-year prison sentence for her defiance.

In the name of enforcing Islamic law and silencing women opposing the regime, Tehran systemically deploys rape and torture. According to women imprisoned in Iranian jails, the prison guards hand out condoms to criminals to rape female inmates opposed to the regime. “In various cells inside the prison, rape has become a common act and acceptable,” a jailed anti-regime critic, Mehdi Mahmoudian, revealed in her letters smuggled out of prison in 2009. “Criminals are repeatedly seen with condoms in hand, hunting for their victims,” a relative of a female inmate disclosed. Similar allegations of rape and torture of women inmates also surfaced in the wake of the November 2019 anti-regime protests, the U.S. State Department confirmed.

Despite the brutal repression by the regime, brave Iranian men and women rose up again in November 2019. The security forces led by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), regime’s dreaded military arm, murdered over a thousand people and arrested thousands more, many of them women, for taking part in the latest wave of anti-regime protests.

Needless to say, Western feminists, busy fighting traces of patriarchy and “toxic masculinity” on college campuses and in their work place, couldn’t be bothered to stand in solidarity with their courageous Iranian sisters defying the regime’s Sharia diktats.

  15. Turkish MoD Claims Its Observation Post in Idlib Attacked by Syrian Gov’t Forces (sputniknews, Feb 10, 2020)

The Turkish military, in its turn, has immediately responded to the attack, the ministry added.

At the same time, Fahrettin Altun, a representative of the Turkish presidential administration has confirmed that Turkey retaliated for the attack.

“Turkey retaliated against the attack to destroy all enemy targets and avenging our fallen troops. 16. Greece Uses Emergency Powers to Build More Migrant Detention Centres (breitbart, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/02/10/greece-uses-emergency-powers-to-build-more-migrant-detention-centres/

“Greece is planning to use emergency legal powers to create detention centers for migrants on five islands to try and speed up deportations back to Turkey, officials said Monday.

Areas have been earmarked to create the new facilities on Lesbos and four other islands in the eastern Aegean Sea to eventually replace existing camps that are severely overcrowded, government spokesman Stelios Petsas said.

“These closed facilities will be governed by strict rules and (limitations) for movement for the occupants,” Petsas said. “Occupants will receive exit cards for controlled leave, while the structures will remain closed at night time.”

He said fast-track legislative procedures will be employed to build the sites – with the government issuing an emergency decree to be ratified by parliament at a later date.

No more details of the planned facilities were announced.

Nearly 60,000 people made the illegal crossing from Turkey to the Greek islands last year, according to the U.N. refugee agency, roughly double the rate recorded in 2017 and 2018.

But only 391 migrants were deported to Turkey last year, in cases where asylum applications were rejected or not considered admissible. The government wants to increase that number to 200 deportations per week before the summer.

Greece already operates three closed facilities in the north of the country with a combined capacity of 880 places and is planning to expand a network of migrant camps throughout the mainland with the capacity of the facilities designed not to exceed 1% of the population of each administrative region.

Many non-government organizations and migrants themselves fear the tougher line being taken by the center-right government could further undermine their asylum process.

Among them is Madhi Fadil, a 25-year-old Moroccan migrant who is homeless in the northern city of Thessaloniki.

“We don’t have a chance to have anything, not a place to live or a proper way to apply for asylum,” Fadil told The Associated Press.

“I want to go to Germany where all my relatives are. But I’m trapped here.””

  17. UK Islamist Preacher Continues to Post Hate Online Despite Arrest, 2015 Social Media Ban (breitbart, Feb 10, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/02/10/uk-jihadist-preacher-free-to-post-islamist-messages-on-youtube/

“An Islamist hate preacher continues to proclaim jihad on his YouTube channel, despite having been previously arrested and banned from social media.

In a video posted just days after the Streatham terror attack, Abu Haleema, also known as Shakil Chapra, said: “We will strike terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve!”

Haleema’s YouTube channel, which has over 1,700 subscribers, hosts videos such as “You Will Be Replaced, Islam Will Be Superior” wherein he described a story from the Koran about non-believers being beheaded, a report by The Sun revealed.

The radical jihadist was arrested in 2015 after he released a video attacking the British Armed Forces, saying that he will never “submit” to democracy. Haleema was released on bail under the condition that he stop posting his Islamist messages on social media.

Despite the ban in 2015, his videos are still available on YouTube in the United Kingdom via an easily obtainable VPN (Virtual Private Network). The videos are restricted by the site, with the comment section and sharing features disabled.

The videos also come with a warning from the site that reads: “The following content has been identified by the YouTube community as inappropriate or offensive to some audiences.”

In response to the revelation that Haleema is still active on the site, a YouTube spokesperson told the newspaper: “In certain cases – where an individual is not subject to government sanctions and where videos aren’t illegal nor violate YouTube’s policies, but come close to violating our policies on hate speech and violent extremism -we apply tougher standards.

“These videos will remain on YouTube behind an interstitial, removed from recommendations, and stripped of key features including comments, suggested videos, and likes. We feel this strikes the right balance between protecting free expression and protecting our users”, the statement concluded.

Abu Haleema has been tied to several terror investigations and was featured in the 2016 Channel 4 documentary The Jihadis Next Door, alongside his radical compatriot and ISIS recruiter Anjem Choudary, who was automatically released from prison in 2018.

In the documentary, Haleema called for homosexuals to be killed. When asked how they should be executed, the jihadist said: “Well, one of them is obviously chucking them off high buildings.” Also featured in the documentary was Khuram Butt, who went on from being featured in the programme to being a leader of the 2017 London Bridge attack, in which eight people were killed by a terror cell of three Islamists.”
