Parents Convicted in First Female Genital Mutilation Case in Ireland (breitbart, Jan 30, 2020)

“An African couple in Dublin has been convicted of having female genital mutilation (FGM) performed on their 21-month-old daughter, in the first such case in the Republic of Ireland.
A man and wife of African origin have been jailed after they “aided and abetted, counselled or procured” someone to perform female genital mutilation upon their 21-month-old daughter. The man has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years and his wife will serve a term of four years and nine months.
The couple, who will remain unnamed to protect the identity of the child, pleaded not guilty to procuring FGM, claiming in the trial that their daughter had suffered the injury as a result of falling onto a toy while not wearing a diaper, according to RTE.
Their version of events was disputed health professionals in the trial who argued that it was clearly a case of female genital mutilation. Sri Paran, the paediatric surgeon who performed surgery on the girl to stop the bleeding, said that the injury was not accidental.
Sentencing the African couple, Judge Elma Sheahan said that the child suffered an “appalling act of cruelty” in the “most egregious breach of trust by those presumed to be the protectors of their infant child”.
The practise of FGM, in which the cutting or removing of female sex organs is performed on girls, is common within the cultures of some African nations and Muslim-majority countries, where it is used as a preventative measure against women having sex before marriage.
The barbaric procedure not only impacts victims physically but can also lead to long-lasting mental health issues later in life.
Female genital mutilation was first criminalised in the Republic of Ireland in 2012 and carries a maximum sentence of 14 years, however, no one has been jailed for the offence until now.
Detective Chief Superintendent Declan Daly said that the couple’s sentencing sends a strong and important message that Female Genital Mutilation will not be tolerated in the country. He said: “It is a heinous and barbaric practice which is a criminal offence in Ireland.”
In October, Breitbart London reported that as many as 6,000 women and girls have had their genitals mutilated in Ireland, with another 3,000 currently at risk of having the gruesome procedure inflicted upon them.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 200 million women and girls have been subjected to FGM and every year three million girls are in danger of having their genitals cut.”

In a video on the YouTube channel of the renowned Islamism apostate Irfan Peci there are scenes that show how brutal and strange such rituals – called “Rukja” – are.By quoting certain verses from the Koran, the “demons” are to be cast out from the “patients”.Among other things, in the video published by the Peci, one sees a veiled “possessed” woman, above her the exorcist who repeatedly sprays her with a liquid. “Are you Jewish or Christian?” he asks the demon who is supposedly inside the woman and presses her head firmly onto the sofa.”A Jew,” she finally says.
Elsewhere a man lying on the ground is beaten while the supposedly non-Islamic spirit in his body is insulted with Koranic verses.
Even if the photographs shown are not from Austria, it seems clear that this ritual will not look any different in this country. The fact that such practices take place in the middle of Vienna is not only frightening to Peci.

“Terror attacks in Pakistan plummeted by more than 85% over the last decade. It’s a welcome statistic for the country, but one that risks being overshadowed by international concern over its efforts to curb terror funding and lingering militant activity that could test any future peace agreement in neighboring Afghanistan.
The tally, put together by Pakistani think tanks, found terror attacks dropped from nearly 2,000 in 2009 to fewer than 250 in 2019, a steady decline that underscores the long-haul nature of fighting terror.
But a Paris-based international watchdog said in October that Pakistan was not doing enough to stop terror financing. The group meets next month to decide whether the country should be downgraded from a “gray” status to “black,” alongside Iran and North Korea, a step that could pose a challenge to Pakistan’s economy.
Pakistan’s militant groups are often interlinked with those across the border in Afghanistan, so its progress at reining in terror is critical, particularly as Washington seeks to secure a deal with the Afghan Taliban to bring an end to the 18-year war, America’s longest military engagement.
“The sharp decrease in terrorist violence, which we began to see in 2014, is nothing short of remarkable,” said Michael Kugelman, Asia Program Deputy Director at the Washington-based Wilson Center. But, he cautioned, “Pakistan is certainly not out of the woods yet.”
Last year, the Financial Action Task Force, or FATF, the watchdog that monitors terror financing, said Pakistan had fully implemented only one item from a list of 40 measures to curb terror financing and money laundering. The other 39 measures were either partially implemented or in some cases overlooked entirely.
If Pakistan is blacklisted, every financial transaction would be closely scrutinized, and doing business with the country would become costly and cumbersome. Pakistani officials say they are working to meet the task force’s demands and expect to avoid a black listing at the crucial meeting in Paris in February.
Earlier this month, Pakistan’s economic affairs minister held a preliminary meeting with an FATF regional affiliate to make a case for removal from the so-called “gray” list.
Pakistan’s military and intelligence have long been accused by Washington, as well as by Pakistan’s neighbors, of supporting some militants while attacking others. Over the last two decades, successive American administrations have pressed Islamabad to crack down on terror. Pakistan points to its more than 4,000 military casualties since the 2001 start of the so-called war on terror — higher than the U.S. and NATO deaths combined — as proof of its commitment.
Over the past decade, Pakistan has been home to a large array of militant groups with multiple and sometimes overlapping motives. Some have targeted the government or unleashed horrific bombings and attacks on the country’s religious minorities. Others are connected to anti-U.S. militant organizations in Afghanistan or have focused their attacks on Pakistan’s historic rival India, particularly in the disputed region of Kashmir.
Since early last year, Pakistan has banned 66 organizations declared as terrorist or terrorist-supporting groups and listed an estimated 7,600 individuals under its anti-terrorism act.
In a surprisingly tough ruling, a court last week handed jail sentences of more than 55 years to dozens of extremists who destroyed cars and storefronts protesting the acquittal of a Christian woman on blasphemy charges.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan promised “zero tolerance” for extremists after several attacked a Sikh shrine earlier this month in southern Punjab province.
Yet extremist groups and ideologies still find fertile ground in Pakistan.
Pakistan-based organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed, which claimed responsibility for a suicide attack last year in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, have been banned only to be resurrected under new names.
“Radicalization and terrorism remain very real threats, even if the main perpetrators of terror have become shadows of their former selves,” Kugelman said.
Amir Rana, executive director of the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, one of the groups which released a report on the decreasing attacks, said the decline was indicative of the long-haul nature of fighting terror and those who perpetrate it. He said it involves years of surveillance, military counterterrorism offensives and a counterterrorism strategy that seeks to identify and curb funding.
Still, Pakistan has a way to go in making the institutional changes necessary to curb terror financing and the militant groups still operating, Rana said. Less than 1% of Pakistanis pay taxes, revenues are routinely undocumented and the so-called hawala system of informally sending money around the globe still flourishes, all of which bedevils efforts to curtail terror financing.
Pakistan’s success in tackling terror is essential amid American attempts to wind down the war in Afghanistan and withdraw U.S. troops.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to bring home the roughly 13,000 U.S. soldiers still in Afghanistan and last November gave his peace envoy, Zalmay Khalilzad, the go-ahead to resume talks with the Taliban. Last week, the insurgent group handed Khalilzad a seven- to 10-day cease fire offer, which could pave the way for American troops to withdraw and jumpstart peace negotiations between Afghans on both sides of the conflict.
Khalilzad said previously that any agreement will require the Taliban to abandon terror groups like al-Qaida with which they have longstanding ties that some analysts say could prove difficult to sever.
Links still bind the militant groups operating between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to Abdullah Khan, of the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, which also released a report documenting the declining attacks in Pakistan.
Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent, which emerged in 2014 as a rival to the Islamic State affiliate that set up shop in Afghanistan the same year, might be vastly degraded, yet it still has cells in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, as does IS.
Earlier this month, 15 people, including a police official tracking militants, died in an attack on a mosque in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province, for which the IS affiliate claimed responsibility.
Last month, police raided the safe house of a cell of al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent that had just moved into the Punjab city of Gujranwala from the southern port city of Karachi. They discovered a trove of documents, weapons and propaganda material.
A police charge sheet seen by The Associated Press said the five men who were arrested “possessed weapons, suicide jackets, hate material, laptop, printing machine, printing material etc. and funds and receipts to achieve al-Qaida’s organizational objectives.”
The police document went on to say that the cell was sending money to al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent’s branch in Afghanistan.”

“Weapons that have been used in intercommunal violence that has killed thousands of people in northern Nigeria have been trafficked from Ivory Coast, Libya and Turkey, according to a new report by the Conflict Armament Research group.
Fighting between farmers and semi-nomadic herders over land has gone on for decades in Nigeria’s central belt and north. Attacks on civilians by armed groups aligned with the communities have killed more than 3,600 people and displaced 300,000 since 2014, according to the study.
Armed groups involved in the fighting in Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara states possessed “significant numbers of factory-produced small arms manufactured in Europe, East Asia, the Middle East and North America,” according to the three-year study.
Some of the weapons were from Turkey and were linked to a major organized trafficking network, the group said.
Assault rifles from Iraq and similar to ones used by Islamic extremist groups in Mali and Niger also were found. However, the organization said that while weapons may have come from the same illicit source, that did not demonstrate a connection between the conflict in Nigeria and Islamic extremist groups.
“Nigerian authorities have made strides in gathering illicit weapons from these communities over the last three years,” said Conflict Armament Research’s head of regional operations in West Africa, Claudio Gramizzi. “Preventing their rapid replacement requires efforts by law enforcement across the Sahel, as well as targeted interdiction of new arms being trafficked from Europe and Western Asia.””

The report, released Thursday, found that the 3.9 billion euros ($5.1 billion) splashed out in projects from 2015 to May 2019 were largely spent without public oversight, with decisions based on political reasons rather than need or effectiveness.
The EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa was set up in 2015 at the height of a wave of migration to Europe from across the Mediterranean and through Turkey. More than a million people surged into Europe, prompting a backlash that included the rise of anti-migration policies across the continent. The fund is due to be replaced by a new mechanism at the end of 2020.
The findings reflect an Associated Press investigation that found that EU money intended to stem migration from Libya, one of the largest recipients of trust fund money, was being diverted to the very people responsible for abusing migrants.
“There’s no one tracking the money beginning to end,” said Raphael Shilhav, one of the report’s main researchers. He questioned whether that would even be possible, given the vast number of organizations and countries involved.
The Oxfam report singled out Libya as a particularly problematic country, and the European Union has come under criticism for the money and cooperation it provides to the Libyan coast guard, which the AP and others found has deep ties to human trafficking and rights abuse.
But even in countries without Libya’s problems, the report found that the EU money can cause problems abroad even as it appears to resolve political issues within Europe. The European priorities, Shilhav said, are not necessarily the same as the African ones.”

“PASSENGERS on a cruise ship carrying two suspected coronavirus patients have been have been banned from disembarking at an Italian port.
Officials said the two suspected patients, a husband and wife from Hong Kong, were being held in isolation in the on-board hospital of the Costa Smeralda ship moored in the port of Civitavecchia. Around 6,000 fellow passengers plus 1,000 crew members have been told to stay aboard the ship.
Lazio Coast Guard’s maritime director Vincenzo Leone said: “We are waiting to know the outcome of the checks still in progress, but everything that needed to be done has been done.
“The situation is under control and at the moment there is no reason for concern on board.
“We immediately activated the maritime health protocol envisaged in these cases.”
Doctors from the Spallanzani hospital in Rome have boarded the ship to carry out some tests on the couple who joined the cruise at Savona a few days ago after arriving in Italy at Malpensa January 25.
The massive cruise liner sailed into Civitavecchia, a port city about 50 miles northwest of Rome, after spending the night moored in Palma, Majorca. It has also stopped in Marseille and Barcelona.
Civitavecchia’s mayor Ernesto Tedesco said: “The situation on the suspected case of coronavirus at the port of Civitavecchia is under the careful control of all the bodies involved, including the local authority.
“The health and maritime authorities have immediately taken action and the protocols envisaged are being followed and we will be constantly monitored.”
China’s National Health Commission said the total number of deaths from the coronavirus in the country had climbed to 170 and the number of those infected now stood at 7,711.
Almost all the deaths have been in the central province of Hubei, home to about 60 million people and now under virtual lockdown.
The virus emerged last month in a live wild animal market in the provincial capital of Wuhan.”

“The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has risen to 170, and a confirmed case in Tibet means it has reached every region in mainland China.
Chinese health authorities said there were 7,711 confirmed cases in the country as of 29 January.
Infections have also spread to at least 15 other countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) will meet on Thursday to again consider whether the virus constitutes a global health emergency.
“In the last few days the progress of the virus, especially in some countries, especially human-to-human transmission, worries us,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday.
He named Germany, Vietnam and Japan, where there have been cases of people catching the virus from others who have been to China.
“Although the numbers outside China are still relatively small, they hold the potential for a much larger outbreak,” the WHO chief said.
More people have now been infected in China than during the Sars outbreak in the early 2000s, but the death toll remains far lower. Sars, also a coronavirus, caused acute respiratory illness.
Researchers are racing to develop a vaccine to protect people from the virus. One lab in California has plans for a potential vaccine to enter human trials by June or July.
What’s the latest on evacuations?
Voluntary evacuations of hundreds of foreign nationals from Wuhan are under way to help people who want to leave the closed-off city and return to their countries.
The UK, Australia, South Korea, Singapore and New Zealand are expected to quarantine all evacuees for two weeks to monitor them for symptoms and avoid any contagion.
Australia plans to quarantine its evacuees on Christmas Island, 2,000km (1,200 miles) from the mainland in a detention centre that has been used to house asylum seekers.
Singapore is setting up a quarantine facility on Pulau Ubin, an island north-east of the city-state’s mainland.

“Around 130 cities and municipalities have demanded the German federal government let them take in more asylum seekers and refugees.
One of the politicians demanding more asylum seekers is Stephan Neher, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), from the small town of Rottenburg am Neckar, which has a population of just 5,800 people but has taken in 850 refugees, Le Figaro reports.
Mr Neher said that he is waiting for the government in Berlin to give him the go-ahead to send a bus to Malta or the Italian island of Lampedusa to pick up migrants and bring them back to Rottenburg am Neckar, where a vacant building would allow 60 more migrants to live in the small town.
“Our city does not want to remain inactive and just watch people die simply because Europe does not respect the right to life. We, as a municipality, want to take our part in this challenge and make sure that we act in a human way,” he told Le Figaro.
Several other cities, including Berlin, Freiburg, Cologne, and Dusseldorf, are also demanding to be able to take more asylum seekers and are asking that the federal government speed up the asylum procedure.
Social Democrat (SPD) mayor of Dusseldorf Thomas Geisel told the paper that there was “no choice” when it came to receiving more migrants, saying: “We do this in the name of fundamental humanitarian principles which are not negotiable. Rather, it is an appeal to the government which should be seen as an encouragement.”
One of the main opponents to the municipal and city governments has been former Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) leader and Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer who previously slammed the city of Potsdam for welcoming in unaccompanied minors.
Seehofer has been a critic of mass migration for years and called on Chancellor Merkel to enact a maximum quota for asylum seekers per year and nearly threatened to resign over migration issues in 2018.
The requests by the local governments come as Germany set a record for migrant spending in 2018, with 7.9 billion euros spent on various programmes and housing for asylum seekers and refugees.”

Brian Dunne, an attorney representing Gabbard, told the New York Post that Secret Service agents turned away a process server Tuesday when the server tried to deliver the lawsuit to Clinton’s home in Chappaqua, N.Y., north of New York City.

Chinese authorities seize 12 tons of beaver penises smuggled from Canada
Chinese customs officers seized over 12 tons of illegally trafficked beaver genitals in the country’s biggest-ever smuggling case involving animal parts.
A total of 94 bags holding thousands of penises each were seized onboard a Canadian ship transporting most wood products and minerals.
Approximately 400,000 to 600,000 beavers must have been killed to produce the 12.7 tons of penises, Xinhua News Agency reports.
According to state media, beaver penises are used in traditional Chinese medicine to cure erectile dysfunction and increase sexual vigor.
The Chinese General Administration of Customs gave a long press conference this morning to justify why it seized what many Chinese perceive as legitimate medicine.
“It’s probably enough medicine to give an entire generation some erections worthy of bulls, but it comes from shady sources and could also be dangerous”
Based on reported black-market prices for the scales, the customs agency estimates the seized penises would have been worth more than $24 million.
“The investigation to identify the criminal organization behind this smuggling operation is still underway but it was dealt a serious economic blow today.”
Beaver and deer penises from North America are openly sold in Chinese traditional medicine stores throughout the country, even if most of them come from the black market.
China is by far the world’s largest market for animal parts trafficking.
Experts estimate the market value of animal parts illegally imported on the Chinese market between 40 and 50 billion US$.
Several species all over the planet face extinction because poachers overhunt them to satisfy the Chinese market, including rhinos, pangolins and Siberian tigers.

Elizabeth Warren proposes criminal penalties for spreading voting disinformation online
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday released a plan to fight disinformation and to hold tech companies accountable for their actions in light of the 2016 election.
“Disinformation and online foreign interference erode our democracy, and Donald Trump has invited both,” Warren said in a Tweet Wednesday. “Anyone who seeks to challenge and defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 election must be fully prepared to take this on – and I’ve got a plan to do it.”
Warren proposed to combat disinformation by holding big tech companies like Facebook, Twitter and Google responsible for spreading misinformation designed to suppress voters from turning out.
“I will push for new laws that impose tough civil and criminal penalties for knowingly disseminating this kind of information, which has the explicit purpose of undermining the basic right to vote,” Warren said in a release.

Rep. Jason Crow, currently serving as a Democratic impeachment manager, has admitted that his party’s efforts are due to the upcoming presidential election. It is a similar argument to one made by Adam Schiff recently.
Crow’s admission came during an interview with MSNBC’s Chuck Rosenberg, in which the host addressed the Democratic party’s alternating sense of urgency regarding the need to remove President Trump from office.
“Did the House move too quickly?” Rosenberg asked, noting that had the House conducted a thorough effort in the first place, they wouldn’t need the Senate to do its job now.
“No, I think the House proceeded in the way that it should have proceeded,” Crow insisted. “There was urgency, but it was also thoughtful and deliberate, it occurred over several months’ period of time.”

RUSSIA’S MINISTRY OF HEALTH NAMES THREE DRUGS THAT CAN TREAT NEW CHINESE CORONAVIRUS
While experts across the world search for a vaccine to tackle the dangerous new infection, Russian health bosses have identified a trio of existing medicines to combat 2019-nCoV in adults. The new coronavirus can be fought with ribavirin, lopinavir/ritonavir and interferon beta-1b, they believe. These drugs are typically used to treat hepatitis C, HIV and multiple sclerosis respectively. The Ministry of Health advisory not only offers recommendations, but also describes how the treatments work and in what quantities they should be prescribed. The guidelines are intended for doctors in hospitals throughout the country. The ministry also instructs that, in order to prevent and reduce the severity of symptoms, medication should be consumed within two days of contact with an infected person. Their prevention recommendations also include sanitary and hygiene rules, such as handwashing and wearing protective masks.

Elizabeth Warren wants to criminalize ‘disinformation.’ Isn’t she forgetting something?

I’m not sure how a federal law like this would play in a deep-blue bastion like New York State, which recently enacted a “bail reform” law that has already placed “menaces to society” back on the street. But presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren has announced that she will “push for new laws that impose tough civil and criminal penalties for knowingly disseminating” disinformation, “which has the explicit purpose of undermining the basic right to vote.”
Her named targets are Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (whose supposedly lax views on misinformation Hillary Clinton has called Trumpian” and “authoritarian”), Jack Dorsey of Twitter, and the CEOs of all large social media platforms.
The real enemies of the state Warren seeks to punish, however, are conservative voices, which these sites have already gone to great lengths to silence. Warren made this clear in a tweet Wednesday, in which she wrote:

UK Manchester – Man brutally stabbed wife 75 times and tried to decapitate her after she cheated
Mohammed Choudhry, of Rochdale in Greater Manchester, has been jailed for life today at Manchester Crown Court for stabbing his wife Saima Riaz, 75 times at their home
A man who brutally murdered his partner by stabbing her dozens of times has been jailed.
Mohammed Choudhry attacked his wife Saima Riaz in the back yard of their home in Rochdale, Greater Manchester in the early hours of April 23, 2019.
He then dragged her back inside the home and continued the savage assault inside the kitchen.
When emergency services arrived they found four separate blood-stained knives at the scene.
Ms Riaz was found with more than 75 separate stab wounds to her body.
The cuts to her necks were so severe that it appeared an attempt had been made to decapitate her, prosecutors said.
When police forced open the door of their home they found Choudhry standing above his wife in bloodstained boxer shorts, Manchester Evening News reported.
Today at Manchester Crown Court, Choudhry, 37, was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment for killing the 33-year-old.
Choudhry – who was not in the dock to hear some grim details of his wife’s death – claimed to have no memory of the horrific attack.
He said: “Why would I do something like that? I loved her.”
There were shouts of ‘yes’ from Ms Riaz’s family in the public gallery when the verdict was announced.
Prior to the killing Choudhry had found out his wife had been having an affair.
She had begun to feel guilty about the relationship and wanted to apologise, the court was told during the trial.
To gauge his likely response, Ms Riaz asked him what he would do if she found out he had been cheating. Choudhry said he would “kill her”.
He found out about the affair last year and sprang into a rage, slapping his partner.
He then became obsessed with knowing where she was and checked her phone for messages.
Despite the overbearing behaviour and a threat on her life, Ms Riaz did not relay her fears to the police.
But neighbours told police in the weeks prior to her death they had heard arguments coming from the house, with one saying they heard a female voice shout “you’ve ruined my life, I hate you”.
A jury took less than 20 minutes to unanimously find Choudhry guilty of murder.
Inspector Daniel Clegg of GMP’s Major Investigations Team said: “This was a brutal and unrelenting attack committed against a defenceless woman with whom Choudhry had been in a relationship for 13 years.
“This was the person whom he should have loved and cherished, but killed during a violent rampage in the most appalling manner and the fact that he used four separate knives to carry out his attack is truly harrowing.
“Saima was just 33 years old at the time of her death and had the rest of her life to look forward to.
“Our thoughts are with Saima’s family as they continue to come to terms with their loss.
“We hope that today’s sentencing gives them some comfort knowing that the man who murdered Saima is now behind bars for a very long time.”

10 men jailed in Mauritania over ‘gay party’ video
The 10 were involved in a ceremony on January 11, footage of which appeared on social media, in the local press and in that of neighbouring countries such as Senegal.
Prosecutors in the Mauritania, where homosexuality is outlawed, have detained and charged 10 young men after a video presented as a “gay marriage” surfaced, a legal source said Tuesday.
“The prosecutor’s office sent the young homosexual delinquents to prison to await judgment for acts contrary to morality, committing acts forbidden by Allah and circulating a ceremony of debauchery,” a source told AFP.
Prosecutors in the capital Nouakchott detained the men late Monday, the source said.
The 10 were involved in a ceremony on January 11, footage of which appeared on social media, in the local press and in that of neighbouring countries such as Senegal.
Reports initially described the event as the first “gay marriage” in Mauritania, an Islamic republic that bans homosexual practices. The men were arrested a week after the ceremony.
Police Commissioner Mohamed Ould Nejib, speaking on television, said investigators had established that the party was “the birthday celebration of a homosexual” to which other gays had been invited.
The 10 were detained “to help investigations,” he said, adding that all were Mauritanian nationals employed as “domestic workers” in Nouakchott.
Article 308 of Mauritania’s criminal code, which is based on the Sharia Islamic law, bans homosexual behaviour between Muslim adults, describing it as “acts against nature.”

Athens Blames Ankara for Breaching Migrant Deal
He spoke as media reports on Wednesday said that Athens plans to install a floating barrier to prevent migrants from reaching the Greek islands from Turkey following an influx of arrivals in the past year.
ABC News cited unnamed sources as saying that the Greek Defence Ministry had urged private contractors to bid on supplying the 2.7-kilometre-long (1.7 mile) barrier within three months.
Earlier this week, the Greek government said that Greece has started sending back around 30 rejected asylum seekers a day to Turkey, which “was accepting them”.
Athens has repeatedly accused Ankara of breaching the 2016 EU-Turkish migration deal which specifically stipulates that migrants entering Greek islands would be returned to Turkey unless they received asylum in Greece.
Turkish-Greek Relations
The flag-tearing incident may worsen the already tense ties between Turkey and Greece which remain at odds over the lack of an peace settlement on Cyprus, which has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded the northern part of the island nation in response to a Greek-backed coup.
Adding fuel to the fire is Athens’ refusal to extradite eight Turkish soldiers accused by Ankara of being involved in a 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. The soldiers were held in custody in Greece for months before being released in June.
Another bone of contention is Ankara’s reluctance to recognise Athens’ exclusive economic zones in the eastern Mediterranean.”

Turkey slams tearing of its flag in European Parliament
‘Expecting European Parliament to take necessary measures against this clown,’ says Foreign Minister Cavusoglu
Turkey’s foreign minister Thursday blasted at a Greek lawmaker’s tearing Turkish flag at the European Parliament.
“These racist minds know better than anybody how we crash and kick out to the sea those who dare attack our glorious flag. Europe’s spoiled and racist children should know their place,” Mevlut Cavusoglu wrote on Twitter.
He urged that Europe must put an end to racism and animosity against Islam.
“[We are] Expecting European Parliament to take necessary measures against this clown,” he said.
Nobody should doubt that Turkish flag will continue to wave proudly forever, Cavusoglu added.
Omer Celik, a spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, also condemned the incident and said that by disrespecting Turkish flag, Greek deputy showed his “personality lack of character.”
“Our flag will continue to wave proudly as a symbol of independence in our country and to remind high values to humanity everywhere on earth,” Celik wrote on Twitter.
Stressing that the incident also targets Europe’s values, Celik added that the EU will become the address of those who want to destroy European values, if the European Parliament surrenders to racists, instead of developing democracy.
Addressing the European Parliament, independent Greek member Ioannis Lagos tore down the Turkish flag, after accusing Turkey as a source of illegal migration flowing to Greece.
Last October, Italian MEP Angelo Ciocca was suspended from activities in the assembly for several days for throwing a box of Turkish delight during a debate of Turkey’s counter-terrorism operation in northern Syria.
Lagos’ disrespectful display could draw a similar sanction.

Russia: Mishustin announces closure of Far East border with China over coronavirus fears
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree to close Russia’s border with China in the Far East to prevent spread of the new coronavirus, in Moscow on Thursday.
“We will inform everyone about the border closures in the Far East as well as other measures taken by the government,” the prime minister said.
The total number of coronavirus cases confirmed by China stands at 7,700, with 170 thought to have died from the disease.
The new strain of coronavirus has spread from China to other countries, including the US, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Nepal, France, Germany and Finland. Cases were also reported in Taiwan, Canada, Japan, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Greece: Muslim women decry violence and living conditions in Moria camp
Hundreds of women asylum seekers from the Moria refugee camp gathered in the centre of Mytilene on the Island of Lesbos on Thursday, to protest the surge of violence in the camp and demanded to be transferred to a safe place.
“We don’t have the right to do something for ourselves, we are compelled to do whatever they say, there is no peace in Moria” one of the protesters said.
Another protester said “Today all of the people, they get together and have one sound [voice] we want freedom, we want to go from Moria, we don’t want to live there, we just want to go [out] of there, we just [want] to leave Moria, we don’t want to live there again.”
Tension at the Moria refugee camp in Mytilene erupted following the killing of a 20-year old man from Yemen on January 16. The young migrant was stabbed to death during an altercation, and died soon after being rushed to hospital. Another 27-year old migrant was arrested in connection with the incident, as local authorities confirmed.
The incident is the second stabbing death inside Moria in January. Living conditions inside the overcrowded camp worsened over the past year, as the number of arrivals reached 17,000 people in a facility built to accommodate just 3,000 people.

France: Protesters prevented from interrupting Macron’s visit
Around 200 protesters who sought to disrupt President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Angouleme on Thursday were prevented from doing so by a heavy police presence.
Protesters accuse Emmanuel Macron and his government to destroy the French welfare system through his proposed pension reform.
“We’re protesting everywhere because this country feels like it’s never being listened to. The president hasn’t been elected solely on his (political) platform, he was elected instead of Marine Le Pen because many wanted to counter the far-right which in turn doesn’t give him a free pass to destroy the French social system”, said Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure.
Macron was due to open the Angouleme International Comics Festival, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

Wearing a simple face mask, Zhang Li waited for an elderly couple at the entrance of their apartment building in an ordinary residential community in Wuhan on Tuesday.
Zhang has read in the media that that the virus is highly contagious. There were two staff members from a local hospital waiting there with her, both covered from head to toe — wearing protective goggles and hazmat suits. U.S. Funding of Islamist “Charity” Groups Triples Under Trump
The amount of American taxpayer dollars that go to Islamist organizations has drastically increased under the Trump administration, which has doled out millions to radical nonprofits, including a recent allocation to a terrorist front group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism financing trial. Between 2017 and 2018 the U.S. government more than tripled its funding to organizations either influenced or controlled by Islamist activists from $4 million to $13.5 million, according to an analysis conducted by a think tank dedicated to protecting Western values from Middle Eastern threats.
The Philadelphia-based nonprofit, Middle East Forum (MEF), reviewed millions of dollars in government grant data and found that the Trump administration is dedicating a lot more to radical Muslim groups than the Obama administration, which gave Islamist-linked organizations an average of $1.7 million annually. A big chunk of the money, around $8.7 million, has gone to the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a surrogate of the south Asian paramilitary group Jamaat-e-Islami, which was recently banned by the Indian government under anti-terrorism laws. An ICNA subsidiary known as Helping Hand for Relief and Development has openly partnered with the Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which was involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack that killed 164 people. The $8.7 million was delivered in 2018 for “disaster assistance projects,” according to the government data obtained by MEF.
Other radical groups whose coffers have been filled by the Trump administration include Islamic Relief ($800,000), which is closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood and has been designated as a terror-financing organization by Israel and the United Arab Emirates; the Islamic Institute of Knowledge, which is linked to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the Iranian regime, has received $780,000 from the U.S; the Muslim American Society, identified by MEF as the Muslim Brotherhood’s leading activist organization in the U.S., got $160,000 from Uncle Sam. The group’s Philadelphia branch recently broadcast a disturbing video of kids at its center singing about chopping off the heads of Jews. Dar al-Hijrah, an extremist mosque in Virginia that the U.S. government says operates as a front for Hamas, received $100,000. Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Aulaqi was the imam at the Falls Church mosque and two of the 9/11 hijackers attended his sermons as well as Nidal Hassan, the Ft. Hood terrorist sentenced to death for murdering 13 and wounding dozens of others at a Texas Army base.

Nearly 200 people in New Jersey have had their guns seized under a “red flag” law that went effect last year, according to data obtained by NJ Advance Media.
The Extreme Risk Protective Order Act, which went into effect Sept. 1, allows a law enforcement officer, family or household member to submit a petition to state Superior Court showing why a judge should issue an order to keep guns away from someone who potentially poses a danger of causing bodily injury to themselves or to others.
If the judge determines there is “good cause” to remove the guns, the judge will initially issue a temporary extreme risk protection order and a search warrant is executed to recover the guns, ammunition and firearms identification card from the person.
So far, 186 temporary extreme risk protective orders have been granted as of Jan. 22, according to the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts, meaning more than one person a day has had their guns taken away — at least temporarily — in New Jersey since the law went into effect. In 25 cases, a petition was made but the temporary order was denied by a judge, according to court data.

New Yorkers Forced To Apply For “Stargazing Permit” To View Night Sky

With New York City’s bright lights making stars over the metropolis nearly invisible, many New Yorkers head to state parks to get a glimpse of the night sky, but now they’ll need permission from the state to do so.
That’s right, citizens are being forced to pay fees to the state to enjoy taxpayer-funded parks.

A permit found at The New York State Office of Parks website shows residents of New York are required to pay $35 to stargaze in six separate state parks while out-of-state visitors are charged $60.
Vehicle registration and a driver’s license are also required to obtain a permit for stargazing, while in contrast, a driver’s license is not required by the state to vote in elections.
Not that it would stop illegals from voting in elections anyway as illegal immigrants were recently allowed to obtain driver’s licenses in New York state.
Other activities the government of New York wants to generate revenue with include diving into the water and using metal detectors.
A Regional Diving Permit boasts a fee of $80.00 and $125 for out-of-state visitors while a Metal Detector Permit costs $40.
