There is a lot of biblical stuff floating out there about the Wuhan virus. Its very difficult to determine what is information and what is not. One video says: The sound of distant gunfire deters people thinking of escaping the city”.
This is easy to believe.
The man in the video below seems to be among the most rational of voices from what is floating around out there.
Thank you Sassy and all who sent in materials this weekend. Much more to come.
Personally I am quite concerned that we have not heard a single report of infection from Vancouver, which is a Chinese city in pretty much every way. If there are cases in Toronto and across the US, why have we heard nothing from Vancouver.
I am one of the first people to share his video to Twitter yesterday. I can’t stop thinking about him. I hope he’s ok.
How can regular readers here upvote your twitter link? The man in the video appears to be indoors, not coughing, and wearing an N-95 mask–seems to be OK.
Around 10:05, he has a deep sniffle. Maybe he has a sinus problem. I hope he comes out of this ordeal safe and healthy. He is very brave for speaking out against the Chinese regime and it is reassuring to know the younger generation is not brainwashed.
N95 is not good enough for the virus, although it will catch the droplets the virus is riding on. It also prevents you from touching your face. Next problem is keeping it out of your eyes, as mentioned in the video.
A comment in Chinese had a term for the illness, which might be a helpful search term:
wuhan pneumonia
W?hàn shì fèiyán

This news item reports from an Infectious Disease doc comparing the illness to SARS, so why not expect a better outcome if handled with the research and containment procedures learnt from the SARS outbreak? https://hksar.org/asia-times-hong-kong-declares-emergency-alert-over-coronavirus-article
The lack of any reports from Vancouver is indeed troubling, it sounds like the Canadian Government is moving to burying news before it makes it way out of the cities.
It is Sunday. Try looking at some websites like this one for a Vancouver clinic, which says,
“We are experiencing high call volumes. We appreciate your patience.”

There’s an acute care hospital in BC, V6Z 1Y6
If you use a map apps, you can get a real-time traffic view. About 1.5 miles away is a walk-in clinic under the direction of a few doctors with Chinese-language surnames. An ill person might go there, then be transported to the hospital.

WHO and CDC are so irresponsible, they appear…….
.......COMPROMISED.......CDC may be pinging off WHO, which is in PRC’s pocket.
Hey, but don’t panic, guys!
WHO and the Tedros guy are on their way to Beijing to discuss the outbreak and how they can help. People are saying he should visit Wuhan instead of Beijing.
Between all of us here, does anybody really believe the Chinese officials will be honest about the situation? I don’t. The Chinese officials and Xi Jinping don’t want to be caught in a loss-of-face scenario, and even less trigger anger among their citizens if the truth was known about their lack of vigilance and hiding of the facts.
None of them believe it. They’ll wink and shrug and sound upbeat.
The head of WHO is Ethiopian. China owns him (and much of Ethiopia).
China’s economy was already shaky, now a major pandemic is causing more disruption.
That Chinese kid in the video may get his wish and the CCP loses power, to do a better job of prediction we need up to date maps on where in China the virus has been found. (truthful reports which the CCP won’t allow) We need to know the real numbers of infection and deaths.
By now, it’s almost everywhere. Even in Xinjiang, land of the Uighur. Those in the detention rehab camps don’t know.
Do you have any idea how lethal this virus is? I want to have some idea of what is going to happen when it hits India and the Islamic nations.
I’m not going to panic, get pissed yes but not panic.
If the pandemic breaks out of China, or should I say when? The massive number of deaths will allow some nations to stop some of the corruption, with luck most of it. We will never be able to get rid of all corruption but with luck we will be able to reduce the amount in our governments and in the international groups that are suppose to keep track of the medical problems of the world.

Seems like The Powers That Be are on the same page:
Let’s contain the PANIC. Maintain public order, prevent the global economy from collapsing. PTrump isn’t in China’s pocket like the WHO, but he’s tied himself to the DOW, and that’s going to sink like a rock.

Lots we don’t know, here’s what we’re looking for. Professorial, speculative, blah-blah, woof-woof.
But the last bit is cute:
“A striking feature of the SARS epidemic was that fear played a major role in the economic and social consequences. Although specific anticoronaviral therapies are still in development, we now know much more about how to control such infections in the community and hospitals, which should alleviate some of this fear.”
Then the obvious:
“Public health measures, including quarantining in the community as well as timely diagnosis and strict adherence to universal precautions in health care settings, were critical in controlling SARS and MERS. Institution of similar measures will be important and, it is hoped, successful in reducing the transmission of 2019-nCoV.”
it is hoped…As this virus spreads beyond China the worlds economy will sink like crazy, if I repeat if it can be kept (for the most part) in China the economic damage can be semi controlled. If/when it hits India and Nam hard things will get bad, and if it gets into the inner cities on the coasts of the US and those in Europe it will be very bad. I can see several possible scenarios but they all depend on just how far the virus spreads. Given Sassy’ statement that it is pretty much everywhere in China the worst case scenario is probably the best/safest one to predict.
Gates foundation domates to Africa effort to control virus.
Datapoint: a large university in the US expects that its students returning from a visit to Wuhan will….oops! Didn’t even realize it has students returning from Wuhan–could I please find out if they live on campus and let their roommate know we can help her look for temporary housing if that is what she wants, especially if the returnees become ill. I did see a student wearing a mask on campus–unheard of in the US outside a medical setting.
Did you notice in the CDC information, no one asks or shares how long it is reckoned that the ill people will remain in hospital?
I’m not crazy about the CDC or WHO reports to the community.

Warning – Do not take Elderberries if you are allergic.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the safety of using Elderberry during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), or other conditions: Elderberry might cause the immune system to become more active, which could increase the symptoms of autoimmune diseases. If you have one of these conditions, it’s best to avoid using Elderberry.

To date we have 110 [website has now updated this to 73] of what we’re calling persons under investigation or PUIs from 26 states. This is a cumulative number and will only increase. We still only have five confirmed positives and 32 that have tested negative.
As you know, we are incredibly sensitive about releasing names of states in this kind of context. So that would really be up to a state health department whether they want to make that release. What I would say is if you want to know whether there are any PUIs in your state, please contact the state health department and let them make the decision about whether they want to release that number or not.
our focus is on returning travelers from Wuhan who have respiratory symptoms and fever.
If you recently returned from Hubei and you have a fever and respiratory symptoms, please call your health care provider so you can be appropriately checked out and we want to make sure you get the best care possible.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/clinical-criteria.html Close contact is defined as—
a) being within approximately 6 feet (2 meters), or within the room or care area, of a novel coronavirus case for a prolonged period of time while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment or PPE (e.g., gowns, gloves, NIOSH-certified disposable N95 respirator, eye protection); close contact can include caring for, living with, visiting, or sharing a health care waiting area or room with a novel coronavirus case.– or –
b) having direct contact with infectious secretions of a novel coronavirus case (e.g., being coughed on) while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/lab/guidelines-clinical-specimens.html https://archive.is/QFgdm
Health care providers should contact their local/state health department immediately to notify them of patients with fever and lower respiratory illness who traveled to Wuhan, China within 14 days of symptom onset. Local and state public health staff will determine if the patient meets the criteria for a patient under investigation (PUI) for 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Clinical specimens should be collected from PUIs for routine testing of respiratory pathogens at either clinical or public health labs. Note that clinical laboratories should NOT attempt viral isolation from specimens collected from 2019-nCoV PUIs.
At this time, diagnostic testing for 2019-nCoV can be conducted only at CDC.
If a PUI tests positive for another respiratory pathogen, after clinical evaluation and consultation with public health authorities, they may no longer be considered a PUI.

Update on Student With Symptoms of Coronavirus Posted: January 27, 2020 at 6:32 pm
Dear Mason Patriots,
The university has received numerous questions about reports of a student who has exhibited symptoms of the coronavirus and is responding to individual questions as quickly as possible. The university can share that the individual in Northern Virginia is a Mason student, does not reside on campus, and is self-isolating while laboratory testing results are processed. Of the three suspected coronavirus cases reported in Virginia, the two cases in central Virginia tested negative. Test results for the suspected case in Northern Virginia have not been released. Coronavirus tests are being processed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and should be announced later this week.” https://ready.gmu.edu/update-on-student-with-symptoms-of-coronavirus-monday-january-27-2020/

Datapoints
https://www.berkeleywellness.com/healthy-community/contagious-disease/article/life-vaccines-my-story Published April 23, 2018
When I was a child, patients and entire families could be quarantined. Quarantine was first used in Italy in the 14th century for ships crews coming from places with plague epidemics; later, in the 19th century, it was used to limit the spread of plague, cholera, yellow fever, and smallpox. Today, there are still laws for quarantining people and animals arriving on ships and planes.
These are guidelines for how long diseases are contagious and possibly how long quarantines were needed:
Poliomyelitis: 40 days
Diphtheria: Onset of sore throat for up to 4 weeks
Measles: 4 days before rash until 4 days after rash appears
Rubella (German measles): 7 days before rash until 5 days after rash appears
Chicken pox: 2 days before rash until all sores have crusts (6–7 days)
Scarlet fever: 21 days from the onset of the disease (in the absence of complications, 15 days)
Mumps: 5 days before swelling until swelling gone (7 days)
Whooping cough (pertussis): Onset of runny nose until 21 days after symptoms.
Typhus: 12 days after the fall of temperature

To put things into perspective, the CDC estimates 35 million people in the U.S. got the flu during the 2018-19 season. More than 400,000 were hospitalized, and more than 34,000 are estimated to have died of the flu and flu-related illnesses.
