Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. The fight the Iranian leadership so wanted and deserved was kindly obliged. Then cries of “foul” bleat like sheep from our socialists’ media minarets. “Death to America except this time we really mean it!” is our own collectivists’ call to prayer. With countrymen like this who needs tard terrorism.

As if the Iranians were respecting uranium enrichment limits, anyhow. As if whatever retaliation they are planning is not extra to their ongoing terrorism. As if pro-Iranian regime protests in Toronto and Boston aren’t enemy seeded.

As if, as if…. When your own so-called people cannot recognize enemies domestic and foreign because they themselves are hostile to what is good, it’s time to take strategic stock. PT did this before taking out the Iranian enemy combatant. This is what our elections are supposed to show and tell us. Strategic stock is being taken through all this noise, day after day by the American people, and will culminate in the November vote. The victory will help PT do what he must to help us fight ever more effectively. After November we will discover we are much stronger than we realized, and our enemy much weaker, simply because we have truth on our side.

“German Expert Exposes Danger of ‘Green’ Policies, ‘Religion'”
The New American Video – January 6, 2020

MADRID — In this interview with The New American magazine’s Alex Newman at the United Nations COP25 climate summit, Wolfgang Muller of the European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE) explains the enormous harm unleashed on Germany as a result of the German government’s “green” policies. He also explains that the man-made global-warming hypothesis, now known as “climate change” or even “climate emergency,” has not been properly debated — much less proven. Instead, ANTIFA terrorists make threats to shut down all debate, as the “green” movement became a “religion” with “dogma” that cannot be questioned.

  3. The Islamist who was shot wanted to build a “place of prayer for Allah” in the forest in Gelsenkirchen, Germany

According to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul of the Christian Democratic Union, the assailant who was shot was 37 years old, a Turkish citizen, divorced and arrived in Germany in 2002. Reul remained sceptical about the motive because the investigation is still ongoing. However, an Islamist motive is being suggested because twice before, the assailant had already become a ” case for Islamism” at the State Security of the Gelsenkirchen Police. Both times the suspicion of being a violent Islamist could not be confirmed. He was therefore not considered a ” dangerous person”. Reul emphasized that the police authorities initiate about 10,000 such cases annually nationwide, according to indications. The security authorities take even the ” slightest indication at all” seriously, he said. Reul reported that the man first came to suspicion in January 2018, when he cleared an area of wood from an area of forest in Gelsenkirchen and dug around. He wanted to build a “place of prayer for Allah” there, he explained to the called police officers at that time. He is now in the “Islamic state”, and “Nazi Germany” has “destroyed his brain”, he is said to have told them. He seemed mentally confused to the officials, but he also showed them the certificate of a psychiatric clinic where he had apparently been treated and which showed him to be harmless.A year later, in January 2019, the police questioned him again and he declared that he was now completely committed to Islam and was a missionary. Both times, the officials saw no legal means to take further action against him. He also became known to the police for various offences, including assault and resisting police officers. Last year he was sent to prison for two months in the spring. This was a prison sentence in exchange for an unpaid fine for insulting and damaging property.

  5. Iranian Parliament Votes to Designate US Armed Forces and Pentagon as ‘Terrorist Entities’ (sputniknews, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202001071077964135-iran-parliament-greenlights-bill-designating-all-us-military-as-terrorist-entity-/

“Iran last year designated the Central Command as a terrorist organisation and the American government as a sponsor of terror, mirroring the US blacklisting of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iran’s parliament on Tuesday passed a bill labelling the entire US military a terrorist organisation in response to last week’s assassination of Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani by the United States.

The Iranian parliament’s presiding board earlier called the drone hit on Soleimani an act of ‘state-sponsored terrorism’.

The motion, which was approved unanimously by the Majlis, also allocated over $220 million to the Quds force, an elite unit responsible for clandestine military and intelligence operations abroad

Gen. Soleimani had been the Quds Force long-time commander; he was widely credited with helping Iraq defeat Daesh* and was considered to be one of Iran’s most prominent political figures, so his killing was interpreted by many in Iran as the de-facto declaration of war.

The US claimed that Soleimani was behind the rocket strike on an Iraqi base near Kirkuk on 27 December that killed an American contractor and injured several military personnel. The US also said, without providing evidence, that he was plotting more attacks on US assets.

Soleimani’s slaying prompted Iran to threaten retaliation and completely abandon the already-ailing 2015 nuclear deal.

There has been an ever-growing confrontation between Washington and Tehran ever since Donald Trump tore up the landmark agreement in May 2018. Following two rounds of Iran sanctions that year, the US in April 2019 designated Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. The move paved the way for more sanctions against Iran, given the IRGC’s significant role in the nation’s economy.

Tehran responded by blacklisting the US Central Command (Centcom), which is responsible for all US military operations in the Middle East – effectively designating American troops there as terrorists.

“The US-ordered drone strike assassination of Qassem Soleimani, one of Iran’s most senior and respected military commanders, has stoked Iranian-US tensions to their highest level in decades as the sides exchange verbal threats of retaliation.

People in the Indian capital of New Delhi are holding demonstrations near the US Embassy on Tuesday to protest the killing of Iran’s military commander Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike on 3 January.

The protesters chanted slogans against the US president, with some placards reading “Trump is a war criminal”, other banners featured photos of Soleimani and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Some demonstrators chanted such slogans as “America, Israel shameless”, and “Donald Trump Down, Down”, while also raising red flags, symbolising Soleimani’s martyrdom.

Shia Muslim leader Kalbe Jawad, who was leading the protest, told Sputnik that the Indian government should extend its full support to Iran amid escalating tensions with the United States.

The protests are not just limited to New Delhi as there have been rallies in India’s Kashmir and Pakistan’s Karachi as well. Anti-US slogans dominated demonstrations as hundreds of people in the Muslim-majority region of Kashmir turned out to protest against the assassination.

“Thousands poured into the streets of Kerman, the home town of Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani, this Tuesday to witness the funeral procession of the Iranian IRGC major general, who was killed in a US drone strike on 3 January.

Iranian state television reported on Tuesday that at least 32 people have been killed and 48 have been injured as a result of a stampede during the funeral for the recently assassinated Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

The broadcaster didn’t say where it obtained the information, but it had a telephone conversation with Head of Iran’s emergency medical services Pirhossein Koulivand, who confirmed the stampede took place.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed during the funeral processions,” he said.
He added that the situation was being looked into with additional information to be provided later.

The Monday procession that was held in the capital of Iran, Tehran, gathered over one million people.

    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202001071077965778-iran-mulls-13-mystery-revenge-scenarios-against-us-over-soleimani-assassination—reports/

“Senior Iranian officials, the military and Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards have each warned that the drone attack on Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani would lead to deadly repercussions, including the possible targeting of US forces stationed in Iraq.

Iran has a baker’s dozen potential “revenge scenarios” that it is considering against the US, Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s powerful Supreme National Security Council, said Tuesday.

“The Americans should know that until now, 13 revenge scenarios have been discussed in the Council and even if there is a consensus on the weakest scenario, carrying it out can be a historic nightmare for the Americans,” Iran’s Fars News Agency cited Shamkhani as saying, according to Reuters.

The top Iranian security official did not give details on what these responses might be. Earlier, speaking to a Syrian official in Tehran, he hinted that Iran would “certainly give a military response but it will not solely remain limited to military measures,” and added that America would ‘soon understand’ that killing Soleimani made things more dangerous for them than when he was alive.

Shamkhani also praised the Iraqi parliament’s motion to boot US troops out of the country, saying the resolution was a “hard slap in the face of Trump and his team of criminals.” According to the official, once the Iraqi resolution steps into force, the continued US presence in Iraq will be “tantamount to occupation”….”

“Later on Tuesday, Iranian Quds Force head Qasem Soleimani is due to be buried in his home town of Kerman. He was killed in a US airstrike on Baghdad on Friday, in an attack that was ordered by President Donald Trump, a move which worsened already tense Tehran-Washington relations.

Hossein Salami, leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has pledged to set on fire unspecified locations supported by Washington over the US assassination of a top Iranian general last week.

“We will take revenge. We will set ablaze where they like”, Salami said, prompting cries of “Death to Israel!”

He made the comments as he addressed thousands of people who gathered in a central square in Kerman for the funeral of General Qasem Soleimani, head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force. The 62-year-old will be buried in his home town on Tuesday…”

  9. US Issues Warning About ‘Iranian Threat’ in Persian Gulf (sputniknews, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202001071077965980-us-issues-warning-about-iranian-threat-in-persian-gulf/

“Concerns emerged over the safety of Mideast waterways last year after a series of attacks on commercial vessels, coupled with a rise in tensions between the United States and its Arab allies, on one side, and Iran on the other.

The US government has issued a new warning to ships sailing throu waterways in the Middle East following the slaying of a top Iranian commander in a drone strike.

The Maritime Administration has put up a message warning of “the possibility of Iranian action against U.S. maritime interests in the region”.

The alert is effective from Monday, 6 January, to Monday, 13 January, and doesn’t differ much from the original warning posted last Friday. It points to “multiple threats reported” in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Indian Ocean.

It’s not clear from the message what threats were identified and when.

The safety of regional waterways, some of them strategic arteries for trade and oil supply, has been put into question following the recent spike in tensions between the United States and Iran…”

  10. Former Charlie Hebdo Columnist: We Hope to Avoid Creation of ‘French Islamic Republic’ (sputniknews, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202001071077965805-former-charlie-hebdo-columnist-we-hope-to-avoid-creation-of-french-islamic-republic/

“On Tuesday, 7 January, France is commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo massacre. It was the first in a series of terrorist attacks to rock the nation, often perpetrated by jihadists, stirring public debates about the radicalisation of Muslims.

Physician and columnist Patrick Pelloux was one of the first people who arrived at the scene of Charlie Hebdo’s building in the afternoon of 7 January 2015.

That day, brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi killed 12 people and wounded 11 others in one of the worst attacks on the press in history. Jokes the magazine made about Islamic leaders and Prophet Muhammad, as well as its depictions of the prophet, considered a sin in Islam, are understood to have been the primary motive behind the attack.

Speaking on a French radio network ahead of the fifth anniversary of the tragedy, Patrick Pelloux defends the beliefs the magazine still holds.

“To criticise Islamism and not agree with the rise of political Islam in France is not equal to being racist,” he argues. “It’s just saying that in 2020, France’s hope is to continue to live in secularism and the Republic, and not to create the French Islamic Republic.”
He laments that there is “a form of self-censorship [in France] in relation to Islam and what it represents”.

Last week, a man shouting “Allahu Akbar” killed one civilian and seriously wounded two others in a knife attack in the Paris suburb of Villejuif.

Pelloux, a former Charlie Hebdo contributor who now works with the satirical journal Sine, cites the Villejuif attack as proof that terrorists “are indeed present, even if they are lone wolves”.

He also refers to his former colleague at Charlie Hebdo, Zineb El Rhazoui, who has become a vocal advocate of secularism and freedom of expression after the 2015 attack.

Pelloux says that El Rhazoui has been “threatened with death like all of us regularly on social networks” despite being “absolutely not racist”.

“We simply defend republican values of living well together and non-violence,” he adds.

Hot off the press, Charlie Hebdo’s commemorative edition is dedicated to new forms of “dictatorships” and “censorship” that challenge free speech. The cover depicts a man whose tongue is pinned to the ground by a giant smartphone with social media apps like Twitter and Facebook visible on the screen.

A trial began on Monday over the “jihadist network” suspected of aiding the Kouachi brothers and their acquaintance, Amedy Coulibaly, who murdered a police officer and four hostages at a kosher supermarket in the following couple of days. All three gunmen were killed on 9 January 2015.

There are a total of 24 suspects, but only five of them will appear in court. The rest have fled to Iraq and Syria and have since been killed or are presumed dead.

Pelloux wants to understand the “architecture” the terrorists used when plotting the attack, including the logistics and the ideologues.

Five years on, he says that everything is different: “In sectors such as the health sector or emergency services where I work, the risk of an attack is an important part of our daily lives. Life has changed, our life has changed.””

  12. Councils spend MILLIONS of taxpayers’ money on private firms to cover police failures (express, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1224627/Crime-news-met-police-latest-park-guard-islington-council-essex-hertfordshire

“COUNCILS in England are spending millions of taxpayers’ money on private firms to do the job of the police and keep Britons safe, new figures have revealed.

Cash-strapped councils are spending huge sums of money on firms to assist the police as crime continues to sweep across the country. Data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act has revealed private firm Parkguard received more than £1.3m from one council last year alone. The security firm operates in large parts of the London as well as Essex and Herefordshire.

Figures seen by The Daily Telegraph revealed Islington Council was the highest spenders, paying £1.34m for its services last year.

The figures show more million has been spent for each the past three years, between 2017-2018 the bill was £1.36million and £1.2m in 2016/2017.

The huge sum of money was paid for services including patrols on council buildings and parks, security guards and dog units.

Parkguard has said it is not there to replace the police force but support the local authority through intelligence gathering, reducing anti-social behaviour and early intervention.

Jean-Pierre Rossouw, head of services at Parkguard, told the Telegraph: “There is a common misconception that we are trying to replace police officers which is simply not true.

“We are an addition to the police and the activities we are carrying out are aimed to help the police to function.

“These are budgets that are not available to the police and a lot of stuff that we do is dealing with quality of life issues that the police don’t deal with.”

Mr Rossouw added: “We are not trying to be bobbies on the beat.

“We are focussing on the things that the police can’t or won’t focus on.”

Islington council has said Parkguard conduct “valued non-policing roles” including working closely with the Met Police programmes in the borough.

An Islington Council spokesman said: “Parkguard are fully accountable to the council and carry out various, valued non-policing roles in Islington such as tackling anti-social behaviour in parks.

“They are also a key member of Operation Nightsafe, which deals with issues from Islington’s busy night-time economy. Operation Nightsafe was designed with the Metropolitan Police and is funded primarily through our late night levy on those licensed premises authorised to sell alcohol between midnight and 6am.

“Parkguard is accredited by the Metropolitan Police and their popular, successful programmes of tackling anti-social behaviour have been recognised with a number of awards from the police.”

In past 12 months, violent crime in England and Wales has soared.

The number offences involving a knife or sharp instrument increased from 41,000 to over 44,000 from June 2018 to 2019, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The data represents a rise of seven percent on the previous year.”

  14. U.S. Air Force performs huge show of strength with 52 fully-armed F-35A Lightning II stealth fighters – the same number of Iranian targets Trump has announced – taking off in a single wave from Utah base (dailymail, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7858943/U-S-Air-Force-launches-F-35A-Lightning-II-stealth-fighters-Utah.html

“The U.S. Air Force has performed a huge show of strength by launching 52 fully-armed Lightning II stealth fighters in a single wave from a base in Utah.

The F-35A aircraft, which are worth a total of $4.2 billion, took off in quick succession from the Hill Air Force Base in Utah on Monday as tensions mount in the Middle East over the killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

Fifty two is the number of Americans seized by Iranian protesters during the 1979 hostage crisis, and the number of targets in Iran that Trump has threatened to strike if the regime retaliates over Soleimani’s death.

The exercise was carried out by the active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings, which said it showed the Air Force’s ability to deploy a large force of the F-35As.

While the exercise has been planned for several months, the execution of it came in the same week the U.S. continues to brace for Iran to respond to the drone strike killing of its most powerful general in Iraq.

The Fighter Wings revealed on Monday that the F-35As have now finally reached full war-fighting capability.

‘We’re ready to fly, fight, and win,’ the 419th Fighter Wings tweeted after the exercise.

They added the exercise ‘pushed the boundaries and tested our Airmen’s ability to deploy the F-35As en masse’.

The 388th Fight Wingers said: ‘The exercise, which was planned for months, demonstrated their ability to employ a large force of F-35As – testing readiness in the areas of personnel accountability, aircraft generation, ground operations, flight operations, and combat capability against air and ground targets.

‘A little more than four years after receiving their first combat-coded F-35A Lightning II aircraft, Hill’s fighter wings have achieved full warfighting capability.’

Each F-35A fighter is worth about $89.2 million.

The U.S. received its first F-35A at the Hill Air Force Base four years ago.

Since then, the Fighter Wings have been training pilots, engaging in multiple large combat exercises and supporting two Middle East combat deployments.

‘Every training opportunity, exercise and deployment we’ve completed over the past four years has been a key stepping stone in reaching full warfighting capability,’ Col. Steven Behmer, 388th Fighter Wing commander, said.

‘This is just the beginning of sustained F-35A combat operations and we will remain focused on staying ready to deploy whenever, wherever we’re needed.’…”

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/01/07/khans-london-islamic-student-association-brands-u-s-terrorist-state-embassy-protests/

“Pro-Iran protesters from the Union of Islamic Student Association in Europe branded the United States a “terrorist state” outside the American embassy in London.

Protesters outside the modernist building in Vauxhall, in the south of the capital, branded U.S. President Donald Trump a “terrorist” and accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson of “standing with terrorism”.

The protest was more than a hundred strong, according to reports, with demonstrators waving Iranian, Iraqi, and Palestinian flags, and carrying placards praising Qasem Soleimani, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander who was killed in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport.

Footage disseminated by Iranian state television shows the protesters chanting “USA’s a terrorist state” and denouncing the country as a “deceitful, lying, rogue country that needs to be brought into line with every civilised country in the world, it is showing itself as completely uncivilised”.

Some attendees interviewed by the propaganda outlet also took aim at the United Kingdom as the “Little Satan” to America’s “Great Satan”, and excoriated “Leavers of power” — a reference to Brexit-supporting politicians — such as Dominic Raab, the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary.

“[N]othing is sacred to these people,” asserted one, adding that “they have sold their souls to the Devil, they are a part and parcel of that Devil”.

Soleimani supporters in London had previously attended a mass memorial for him in the Islamic Centre of England, whose director — who bills himself as a representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader — also published a message of condolence praising him as an “honourable Islamic commander”…”

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/01/07/hungary-doubles-military-border-patrols-amidst-rising-migration-wave/

“The government of Hungary is set to double military patrols along its borders amidst growing pressure from migrants attempting to enter the country illegally.

Hungarian State Secretary at the Defence Ministry, Szilard Nemeth, said that the number of migrants illegally crossing into Hungary has increased by nearly ten times over the past year, reaching 3,299, adding that the government expects that number to grow in the coming months.

Nemeth said that “in light of increasing migration pressure” the military would double the number of military personnel patrolling the border, according to the Hungary Journal.

Soldiers patrolling the border in Hungary will increase from 50 to 100, bringing the total force stationed at the border to 500.

Gabor Borondi, deputy commander of the Hungarian army, said that the increased numbers of soldiers will remain at the border for “as long as necessary”.

Speaking in December, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the European Union’s migration policies have been a “serious mistake”.

“Immigration is a key issue for Europe. Not only today, this year or the next but for decades. It defines European politics and relations between European countries. In the Western countries to which they have been admitted, the Muslim population is growing year by year, and the Christian population is declining,” Orbán said…”

“Four small children were shot dead while trying to take refuge from the latest al-Shabab extremist attack in Kenya early Tuesday, authorities said.

A Kenyan national police statement said the attackers targeted a telecommunications mast in eastern Garissa county near the border with Somalia, where the al-Qaida-linked extremist group is based.

Police officers on patrol killed two attackers in the early morning assault near the village of Saretho, the statement said. It said a teacher was among the dead.

But a government security report of the incident seen by The Associated Press said four students from the Saretho primary school were killed.

“The young pupils had taken refuge at the nearby Saretho police post when the attacks began and were guarded by the police when the militants fired at them, killing them instantly and wounding two of their school mates,” the report said.

The report said some attackers escaped with injuries and were being pursued…”

  19. Muslims in fear as police crack down in India’s heartland (abcnews, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/muslims-fear-police-crack-indias-heartland-68109019

“Sometimes Arshad Hussain disappears. He will be sitting on the bed, watching relatives, neighbors and journalists pour into his house when suddenly scenes of his dead son wash over him.

“I find myself on the street, staring at the concrete path where my son bled to death,” he said quietly, leaning against the exposed brick walls of his house in Nehtaur, a small north Indian town about 190 kilometers (120 miles) from New Delhi.

His 20-year-old son, Anas Ahmad, was among 16 Muslims killed across the state of Uttar Pradesh on Dec. 20, the deadliest day in unrelenting violence that has engulfed India for almost a month. The victims included an 8-year-old boy.

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to oppose a new law that grants a path to citizenship for immigrants of every religion except Islam. Many say the law, passed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu-nationalist government, discriminates against Muslims and undermines the country’s secular foundations.

The government, saying the protests are orchestrated by its opponents, has responded by banning gatherings of more than four people, partially shutting down the internet to make it more difficult to organize and detaining activists. Police have used baton charges, tear gas and sometimes live ammunition against protesters, leaving at least 23 dead nationwide.

The crackdown has been the harshest in the heartland state of Uttar Pradesh, where Muslims comprise 20% of the population of 200 million.

Relatives of eight of the 16 people who died on Dec. 20 told the AP that their family members had been killed by police fire. Police deny using guns, but a smartphone video seen by the AP shows an officer firing at protesters in Meerut and residents of the city said they saw police firing weapons that day.

Five people died in Meerut, the highest toll anywhere that day. The city, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of New Delhi, was teeming with people marching toward a market intersection to protest after Friday prayers, residents said.

At first, people emerged from the city’s narrow lanes in twos and threes. A crowd of 30 to 40 formed. Half an hour later, the number had risen to the hundreds. By the time police arrived in protective gear, the gathering had become a buzzing congregation.

Soon officers resorted to baton charge and tear gas. Several residents said this was followed by gunfire, forcing people to scamper for safety. Hours later, the town convulsed in tragic news: Five men had died of gunshot wounds.

Mohammad Naseem said he was standing beside his 45-year-old friend, Zaheer Ahmed, when a hail of bullets, which he said came from the police side, tore over their heads.

Naseem said his friend was sitting next to a shop front, puffing on a cigarette, when he saw him fall sideways. “When the sound of bullets stopped, I went closer to check on him and he was dead,” he said.

Police said they only used nonlethal weapons to disperse the crowd.

“We didn’t even order firing in many areas,” said the state’s top police official, Om Prakash Singh. “Protesters used illegal guns to fire at the police,” he said, and the victims were caught in the crossfire.

Residents in Meerut and Nehtaur say the deaths were followed by a police crackdown, deepening fear among Muslims. Others offered similar accounts elsewhere in the state, alleging police killings and vandalism. The police deny the charges.

CCTV surveillance video and mobile phone footage from Meerut shows officers vandalizing cars and motorbikes, breaking house windows and dragging people in the streets after making arrests. Police could also be seen destroying CCTV cameras in one place.

Competing narratives of the violence illustrate the brewing tensions in a state led by a hard-line Hindu monk, Yogi Adityanath, who has called for revenge against protesters.

A day before the deaths, he told reporters that those vandalizing public property in protests would have to pay damages.

Many believe that Adityanath, the state’s chief minister, is following Modi’s path of Hindu nationalism.

Activists who visited the state on fact-finding mission days after the deaths accused police of a “reign of terror” and “brazenly targeting” Muslims.

“For the state, Muslims are like insects. They kill us at will,” said Anwar Usmani, whose nephew Mohammad Sulaiman was killed in Nehtaur.

Many Muslims say Modi’s landslide reelection earlier this year has emboldened him. His government has empowered police to declare individuals terrorists based solely on accusations; revoked the partial autonomy of Kashmir, India’s only Muslim-majority state; and implemented a citizens’ register in the northeastern state of Assam that excluded 2 million people, many of them Muslim.

In Muzaffarnagar, a town 60 kilometers (35 miles) from Meerut, 74-year-old Haji Anwaar Ilahi said dozens of policemen barged into his four-story house on the night of Dec. 20, “destroying everything that came in their way.”

His grandchildren examined what they said was proof of police vandalism: a transparent police baton left behind in a pile of electronics, broken crockery, and torn books.”

  20. Australia arrests 183 for setting bushfires that celebrities claim were caused by climate change

Australia’s rampant and destructive wildfires were started by arson, and fueled by dry conditions and high temperatures, but you’d never know it from the Golden Globes or mainstream media outlets.

In November, a teenage volunteer firefighter from New South Wales was charged with setting 7 bushfires in the region, and then returning with his brigade to fight them. Apparently, he has set 17 fires, and the pyromaniac has now been barred from access to any firefighting equipment.

According to The Australian, “Police arrested 183 people for lighting bushfires across Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania in the past few months. NSW police data shows 183 people have been charged or cautioned for bushfire-related offences since November 8, and 24 arrested for deliberately starting bushfires.”

That’s 183 people who have been arrested for arson, resulting in catastrophic bushfires, displacement, property loss, and deaths of both people and animals.

So why do so many Hollywood celebrities claim that the massive fires in Australia are a result of climate change? There’s a years’ long drought along Australia’s Gold Coast. There are rising temperatures. This has been the driest year on record, and the fire and cyclone seasons are just around the corner. But without those 183 arsonists arrested since August, these blazes would probably be substantially less bad.

Climate change, greenhouse gases, pollution, air quality, and other threats to life and quality of life are of course real concerns. But the predilection of media and stars to taking any tragedy and using it as a fulcrum for their own cause celeb does less to amplify the need for action and policy change, and more to highlight the myopia that makes the public at large roll their eyes. Extinction Rebellion, devotees of teen climate activist Greta Thunberg, and simplifications of complex issues make it easy for people to dismiss climate concerns as baseless. Stating facts and offering solutions will do more to convince people of the need for change than easily dismissable hyperbole.

  21. Breaking: Virginia vows to shut down all gun ranges not owned by the state
Posted by LET Staff | Jan 6, 2020 | Must Reads, News, Law and Legal, Featured

Virginia just went full blown communist.

If it wasn’t bad enough watching the action unfold surrounding unconstitutional gun laws and the militias being formed to fight against them, now it seems like Virginia is trying to pull yet another move.

They want to shut down every gun range in the state that isn’t owned by the government.

According to House Bill 567, any indoor shooting range would be prohibited by law – UNLESS it was inside of a building owned by the state.

And any business owners who decided to defy the law could be facing up to a $100,000 fine and potential civil penalties.

  23. EU Millions Pouring Into Libya Lining Pockets of Warlords and Criminal Gangs (breitbart, Jan 7, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/01/07/eu-millions-pouring-libya-lining-pockets-warlords-criminal-gangs/

“A new review of European Union (EU) money being spent in Libya to help curb the flow of migrants has shown that the money is actually lining the pockets of warlords and people-smuggling networks.

The EU has spent millions of euros in recent years in order to stop the large-scale flow of illegal migrants from Libya. But according to a review of where the funds have ended up, much of the money has gone towards the very groups helping to facilitate illegal migration, Sverige Radio reports.

So far, the political bloc has spent 327.9 million euros, with another 41 million earmarked in the future. While some of the money has gone through United Nations officials, internal emails revealed by the Associated Press (AP) show that the officials knew some of the cash had been funnelled to criminals.

AP also noted the cooperation between the Libyan coast guard and militias stating that the militias “torture, extort and otherwise abuse migrants for ransoms in detention centres under the nose of the U.N., often in compounds that receive millions in European money”.

The revelations are a blow to the EU, which has spent millions on training the Libyan coastguard along with the Italian government which handed the Libyans ten boats to use for coast guard patrol activities.

The UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) went as far as admitting that they often work with individuals linked to militias, saying: “Without those contacts, it would be impossible to operate in those areas and for IOM to provide support services to migrants and the local population.”

The accusations are not the first time a government has been accused of working with militias and warlords in Libya to halt the number of illegal migrants coming across the Mediterranean sea.

In 2017, it was claimed that the Italian government had given money to Libyan warlord and former people smuggler Ahmed Dabaschi, also known as “al Ammu”, and his 500-man militia to prevent boats from leaving the Libyan coast. The Italian government denied the accusations at the time.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently defended the Trump administration’s decision to carry out the operation, which resulted in the death of Qasem Soleimani. While speaking on the Senate floor Monday, he suggested Democrats are jumping to conclusions regarding Soleimani’s death and are accusing the government of misconduct without knowing any facts.

McConnell went on to say Democrats should wait until the White House is able to give the Senate a full briefing on the operation.

“Can we not wait until we know the facts, can we not maintain a shred, just a shred, of national unity for five minutes before deepening the partisan trenches?” asked the Kentucky lawmaker. “Must Democrats’ distaste for this president dominate every thought they express and every decision they make?”

  31. Soleimani Killing Hailed by Arabs—But Not by Palestinians

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani is being celebrated across the Arab world by Muslims who were cruelly victimized by him in the service of Iran’s imperialist ambitions. The Palestinians’ fulsome praise for Soleimani and accompanying support for Iran are raising eyebrows across the Arab world.

The attack on the US embassy in Baghdad was the latest in an ongoing series of Iranian provocations in the region. An American drone was shot down in the Persian Gulf in October, and there have been attacks on Saudi oil fields and oil tankers near Oman.

The American response to these provocations took its time to arrive, but when it did, it was particularly harsh.

The targeted killing on January 3 of Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani, together with Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis, deputy head of the Iraq-based Iranian-controlled Kataib Hezbollah militia, was a major blow to the Iranian regime. Soleimani was not only a general and commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, but he was dear as a beloved son to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Soleimani wielded extensive power and authority in Iran, second only to Khamenei himself.

UK opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called the assassination of Iranian General Soleimani “an extremely dangerous and aggressive act that risks starting yet another deadly war in the Middle East,” at the House of Parliament in London, on Tuesday, during a discussion on his killing. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was absent during the parliamentary session.

“Isn’t the truth, Mr. Speaker, that he [UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson] is afraid to stand up to President Trump because he’s hitched his wagon to the prospect of a toxic Trump trade deal,” stated opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, adding that “Instead, Mr. Speaker, at this highly dangerous moment, we find the government giving cover and even expressing sympathy for what is widely regarded as an illegal act, because they are so determined to keep in with President Trump.”

“This assassination puts British troops and civilians, as well as the people of the region in danger,” he added.

“General Soleimani was no friend of the UK or our allies in the region,” said UK Defence Secretary Ben wallace, adding that “the US is confident that General Soleimani came to Baghdad to coordinate imminent attacks on American diplomats and military personnel.”

“Further conflict is in no one’s interest. The only beneficiaries would be the terrorists and extremists seeking to use the chaos as cover to advance their abhorrent objectives. So we are urging all people, all parties to de-escalate as soon as possible,” he continued.

  35. Iran – Now What?

To the Mullahs’ astonishment, Trump is not Obama.
    January 7, 2020
    Michael Ledeen

What will the Iranians do now? There are cries for revenge following the killing of General Qasem Soleimani, accompanied by red lights around the holy city of Qom. We are taking the threats seriously, as is proper, and we are pressing ahead with arrests of Iranian agents in Iraq, and air strikes against still other agents on the ground in Iraq.

The latest tweeted news from Iraq — subject to confirmation — is that Iranian-armed groups have seized control of Tahrir Square in Baghdad. And in Iran itself the demonstrations against the regime continue with chants of “Money for Iran, not for Syria, Gaza. Yemen and Lebanon.”

So Iran has some difficult decisions. They and their proxies, such as Hezbollah, promise revenge, but they have to decide if Trump has changed.

At the beginning of the Trump Administration, the Iranians feared the American president would challenge the regime. The Iranians have always been afraid of a direct conflict with the United States, and they were careful to farm out their strikes against Washington, D.C. and its allies to their proxies, from Hezbollah to Islamic Jihad. Trump wanted a deal, and for a while he was swayed by the likes of Rand Paul, who advised the president to pursue an agreement with the mullahs.

  36. FLASHBACK: Iranian Lawmaker: Obama Granted Citizenship to 2500 Iranians During Nuclear Talks — Including Family Members of Regime Officials

On Friday morning the United States killed General Qassim Soleimani, a top commander of Iran’s al-Quds Force, in an airstrike at Baghdad’s International Airport. The strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iran-backed militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces. Seven people were reportedly killed in the airstrike.

The Iranian regime is threatening retaliation against the United States following the death of their terror leader.

On Sunday the Iranian Regime offered an $80 million bounty for anyone who brings in the head of President Donald Trump for killing Qassam Soleimani.

And on Tuesday the Iranian parliament allocated 200 million euros or $223 million dollars to the al-Quds forces to avenge Soleimani’s death.
