7. Austria Considers Headscarf Ban to Counter ‘Political Islam’

Austria’s coalition government on Thursday announced it is considering several measures to curb the influence of what Conservative People’s Party (OVP) leader — and once and future chancellor — Sebastian Kurz described as “political Islam.”

 

The measures include a ban on Islamic headscarves for girls until they reach the age of 14 and a provision for putting potentially dangerous individuals in “protective custody” to prevent them from committing violent actions.

Kurz said during his first term as chancellor that “radicalization and political Islam have no place in our country.” He invoked the 2015 “Islam Act” to close mosques that were accused of supporting extremism and engaging in subversive political activity. Among other features of the Islam Act was a ban on foreign funding of religious activities in Austria.

 

Headscarves were banned in May 2019 for girls younger than 10, a rule denounced as “shameless” and a “direct assault on religious freedom” by Austrian Muslims, and an act of “rightwing extremism” by Kurz’s political opponents. Kurz plans to raise the age to 14 during his return to office. 

8. Recordings reveal details of campaign to attack Maxime Bernier, PPC as racists before election

Audio recordings shared with CBC News reveal political strategist Warren Kinsella told employees working on a campaign against the People’s Party of Canada that leader Maxime Bernier was a “racist” and a “white supremacist” who would be “easy” to expose in the lead-up to the federal election campaign.

 

Dubbed “Project Cactus,” the campaign against Bernier and the PPC was run by Kinsella’s political consulting firm, Daisy Group. Kinsella made the comments during a staff meeting about the campaign in May.

 

“I want the hatred you have for Maxime Bernier to wash over you as a purifying force,” Kinsella tells his staff in one recording, made during a meeting on May 16. “There’s nobody in the country doing what we’re doing to Max Bernier.”

 

The recordings were provided to CBC News by a source who was present for the meetings and asked not to be named, due to concerns about retaliation.

He is even linked to the attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi. This makes solid intuitive sense but waiting for some confirmation on that before posting any links. Hopefully some footage of that will arrive to give us a sense of just what kind of a city Toronto now is thanks to its enrichers.
