Pakistani Islamists camp out in Islamabad, urge PM to quit (abcnews, Nov 1, 2019)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistani-islamists-camp-islamabad-urge-pm-quit-66680604
“Thousands of members of a radical Islamist party have camped out in Pakistan’s capital, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan over economic hardships.
Leading the caravan of hundreds of cars and buses, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, began his “Azadi March” from the southern city of Karachi last Sunday.
Along with his supporters, he entered Islamabad at about midnight Thursday.
Authorities have deployed police, paramilitary forces and put shipping containers on key roads in the capital to prevent the massive anti-government march from reaching the Red Zone, where government offices, parliament and foreign embassies are located.
Khan has refused to quit despite a rise in inflation and living costs. He came into power last year.”

White Helmets, Terrorists Prepare In Syria New Provocations With Use Of Chemical Weapons – Moscow (sputniknews, Nov 1, 2019)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201911011077199684-white-helmets-terrorists-prepare-in-syria-new-provocations-with-use-of-chemical-weapons—moscow/
“Earlier, the White House announced that US President Donald Trump had authorised $4,5 million in aid for Syria’s White Helmets organisation.
The ‘White Helmets’ organisation together with terrorists have been preparing new provocations with the use of chemical weapons in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“New confirmations of the information about the White Helmets’ activities emerge all the time … According to the existing information, which the Syrian government regularly provides to the United Nations, the White Helmets, jointly with terrorists, is preparing new chemical provocations in Syria. They obviously aim at disrupting the peace process in the country,” Zakharova said at a briefing.
Russia is disappointed over Washington’s decision to allocate funds to the White Helmets, Zakharova added, recalling that Russia has publicly revealed evidence of the White Helmets’ links with terrorists.
The White Helmets, officially known as Syria Civil Defence, is a non-governmental organisation, suspected of having links to radical Islamists. On 22 July, the group claimed that Russia had carried out an airstrike on a market in Idlib province on that day, causing numerous casualties among civilians. Russia’s Defence Ministry responded by releasing a video which proved that the market was fully operational.
Moscow and Damascus have repeatedly accused the White Helmets of staging provocations involving chemical weapons to justify foreign interventions and the presence of foreign forces in Syria.”

Syrian Kurds Want to Join Forces With Damascus If Gov’t Army Restructured – SDC (sputniknews, Nov 1, 2019)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201911011077199461-syrian-kurds-want-to-join-forces-with-damascus-if-govt-army-restructured—sdc/
“Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria are ready to join forces with President Bashar Assad, but they want “restructuring” of the Syrian army” to happen first, Ilham Ehmed, the president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council said.
“We are prepared to join the forces with Assad but restructuring, changing the Syrian army. If we agree with the Syrian regime about how we are managing our areas, and then yes, we are ready to join the Syrian army,” Ehmed said, stressing that it “cannot happen in an hour,” as there should be discussions with Damascus first.
“What happened is the Defence Ministry released the statement where they are addressing us like criminals,” she added.
“So, the SDF said ‘no.’ We have to sit together and agree on how we are going to be integrated together, not like join as we are the fugitive,” Ehmed said.
The SDC is a political branch of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces operating mostly in northeastern Syria, where Turkey recently launched an anti-terrorist offensive.
On Wednesday, the Syrian government called on Kurdish fighters in northeast Syria to join the army to stave off Ankara, state media reported.
Syrian Kurds Seeking US Help in Becoming Part of Syria’s Political System
Speaking of Kurds’ involvement in political life in Syria, Ilham Ehmed said that Syrian Kurds are seeking the help of the United States in becoming part of Syria’s political system.
“We want to be part of the political new structure of the region, of the Constitutional Committee. We are not represented. They [US] are just using us a fighter — fighting here, fighting there — but we want to be part of the political process,” Ehmed said, adding that the Kurds were “looking to be part of the political system, and that’s what they are asking America to do and help them.”
When asked whether Washington is doing anything to assist the Kurds in this regard, Ehmed stated, “We have not seen anything yet from American side.”
UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said Monday, ahead of the launch of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, that there were representatives of Kurds in the new body, but none linked to the military wing of the SDC — the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
The 150-member Syrian Constitutional Committee is currently convening for the first time in Geneva. Representation within the body is split equally between the nation’s government, opposition and civil society. It also has the smaller committee within it that includes 45 people — 15 from each of the three represented groups — that will prepare constitutional initiatives, while the larger body will be responsible for adopting them.
US Continues to Supply Arms to SDF, Has No Plans to End Deliveries – Kurdish Politician
The United States continues to supply weapons to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and is not planning to end its arms deliveries, Ilham Ehmed said.
“They do [continue to send weapons],” Ehmed said, stressing the United States did not have any plans to end its arms deliveries at the moment.
According to her, the United States will keep sending weapons if the SDF continues fighting the Daesh.
“They have to help us because we have nothing. Turkey is attacking us, and they are doing genocide against us,” Ehmed said, referring to Turkey’s campaign in northeastern Syria.
Turkish Operation Peace Spring
On 9 October, Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring to clear the border area of the Daesh* terrorist group and Kurdish militia, labeled as terrorists by Ankara. The United States and Turkey came to an agreement on 17 October for a 120-hour ceasefire in the area to allow the withdrawal of the Kurdish fighters.
As the five-day ceasefire came to an end, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a memorandum. According to the agreement, comprising 10 clauses, Russian military police and Syrian border guards are facilitating the withdrawal of Kurdish militia, whom Ankara views as terrorists, from the 18-mile safe-zone on the Syria-Turkish border within 150 hours, and Ankara and Moscow have started joint patrols.

EU divided: Fury after three EU member states ‘broke the law over migrant policy’ (express, Nov 1, 2019)
https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1198590/EU-news-migrant-crisis-poland-hungary-czech-republic-european-court-justice
“POLAND, Hungary and the Czech Republic broke EU law when they refused to take in their fair share of refugees at the height of the migrant crisis four years ago, according to a top UK lawyer.
The three former Communist countries were condemned by Eleanor Sharpston QC who branded their hardline stance “self-centred” and accused them of “betraying the founding fathers’ vision for a peaceful and prosperous continent”.
A temporary scheme was introduced in 2015 to redistribute 160,000 refugees from Africa and the Middle East who landed in Italy and Greece.
But the eastern European countries refused to participate, citing security risks and claiming that accepting refugees would be too much of a burden. Hungary and Slovakia unsuccessfully tried to challenge the legality of the quota scheme.
The European Commission launched legal proceedings against them in the European Court of Justice in December 2017 by which Poland and Hungary had failed to take in a single refugee and the Czech Republic had not done so for more than a year.
The scheme itself turned out to be an abject failure and was scrapped in September 2017 after fewer than 30,000 refugees were relocated.
But Ms Sharpston, an advocate general at the Luxembourg-based court, pulled no punches in a statement offering the court’s first opinion on the case.
She said: “These member states cannot invoke their responsibilities with regard to the maintenance of law and order and the safeguarding of internal security in order to disapply a valid EU measure with which they disagree.
“Such self-centredness is a betrayal of the founding fathers’ vision for a peaceful and prosperous continent.
“It is the antithesis of being a loyal member state and being worthy, as an individual, of shared European citizenship.”
She insisted the European Union’s principle of solidarity “necessarily sometimes implies accepting burden-sharing”.
Polish government spokesman Piotr Muller hit back at the British judge.
He said: “Ensuring security for our citizens is the most important goal of the government’s policies.
“Our actions were dictated by the interests of Polish citizens and the need for protection against uncontrolled migration.”
Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovac said: “Outgoing European Commission still insists on resettling migrants in Hungary, but the government position remains unchanged.
“Whether it’s a one-time quota or a permanent compulsory quota, Hungary declines.”
Ms Sharpston and two other British judges will stop working at the EU court once the country leaves the bloc.
She became the first woman to be appointed at the European Court of Justice in April 2008 and has served as an advocate general – a position some say is even more influential than the judges themselves.
It is her role to deliver the first opinion on cases that come before the court, which then go to the judges.
The advocate general’s opinion is not binding but the court’s final judgments generally take the same line.”
China warns it won’t tolerate dissent in Hong Kong
Beijing (AFP) – China warned Friday it would not tolerate any challenge to Hong Kong’s governing system, as it laid out plans to boost patriotism in the city and change how its leader is chosen or removed after months of pro-democracy protests.
Beijing also said it would brook no foreign interference in Hong Kong affairs as it discussed the unrest in the semi-autonomous city at a major, four-day meeting of the Communist Party chaired by President Xi Jinping, according to a senior party cadre.
The central government in Beijing has so far voiced its confidence in Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam and the city police to put a lid on the increasingly violent protests.
But all eyes have been on whether the party leadership will assert more control over the situation if the demonstrations spin out of control.
The former British colony has been rocked by months of protests with citizens lampooning the city’s pro-Beijing leaders and erosion of basic rights.

French Govt Offers 10k Euros to Workers to Stay in Paris No-Go Zone (breitbart, Nov 1, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/11/01/french-govt-offers-10k-euros-to-workers-to-stay-in-paris-no-go-zone-suburbs/
“As part of an action plan to address problems in the troubled Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis, the French government has offered 10,000 euros to public workers to remain working in the area.
The proposal is one of 23 measures presented by the government this week to help the area, which is the poorest department in the entire country and will also see the recruitment of another 150 police officers to help maintain order in the area, Le Figaro reports.
The government of President Emmanuel Macron is also looking to improve housing conditions in the area for local residents.
The 10,000 euro bonus will be eligible for various public sector workers including teachers as studies revealed that the turnover rate int he area is much higher than other parts of France, with Ministry of the Interior workers staying just 2.7 years there on average compared to Essonne, for example, where the rate is seven years.
A similar proposal was made in so-called “vulnerable areas”, often referred to as no-go zones, in Sweden, where the government offered teachers a salary increase of £848/$1,077 per month to remain working in the often crime-ridden and economically disadvantaged areas.
The Seine-Saint-Denis plan comes after months of studies by parliamentarians and government officials into the highly migrant-populated area where an estimated 20 per cent of residents — 400,000 individuals — are illegal immigrants, according to the French parliament.
To tackle the high crime rates in the area, the plan also calls for the renovation of police stations in Aulnay-sous-Bois and Épinay-sur-Seine, for a total cost of 30 million euros. The renovations are expected to be completed by 2023. A further 20 million euros will be put into education efforts.
Over the last several years, many have expressed serious concerns regarding Seine-Saint-Denis, not least due to the high levels of Islamic radicalisation in the area.
Last year, former French secretary of state Philippe de Villiers claimed that his brother General Pierre de Villiers, who resigned as the Chief of the Defence Staff in 2017, had warned President Macron over the dangers posed by increasing lawlessness in the suburbs.
“If the suburbs give rise to further and even more violent uprisings, we will have no way to face them: we lack the means, we lack the men. This is the reality of the French political situation,” de Villiers said his brother had told the French president.”
Vandals Profane 100 Christian Tombs in French Cemetery (breitbart, Nov 1, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/crime/2019/11/01/vandals-profane-100-christian-tombs-in-french-cemetery/
“Vandals went through a graveyard in southwest France before dawn on Wednesday smashing anything relating to Christian symbolism, including dozens of stone crosses, crucifixes, and images of angels and the Virgin Mary.
According to local reports, the marauders profaned nearly 100 Christian graves in the Breuil cemetery in Cognac, destroying mostly crosses but also smashing a number of statues, plaques, and representations of angels and of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The desecration of the cemetery took place just days before the Christian celebration of All Souls Day on November 2, when Catholics visit the graves of their loved ones to pray for the repose of their souls.
The mayor of Cognac, Michel Gourinchas, went to the graveyard Wednesday to survey the extent of the damage, describing the incident as “lamentable” and “shameful.” The socialist mayor said he hopes the incident was nothing more than an act of gratuitous and foolish vandalism without anti-Christian motivation.
“It is obviously the desire to break things, but it is the police investigation that will determine the nature of the faithless, lawless individuals who come to desecrate objects in a cemetery. I hope there is no political or religious connotation,” the mayor said.
“I hope, even if it is abominable, that it is only petty individuals who have done this to show how clever they are,” he said.
Gourinchas noted as evidence for the secular nature of the crime that the vandals left no inscription in the cemetery indicating an ideology or belief, a statement that one Christian observatory found to be disingenuous.
“The mayor says there is nothing to indicate a religious motivation,” wrote Daniel Hamiche for L’Observatoire de la Christianophobie. “A pile of broken crosses isn’t enough for him, evidently.”
“What more does he need than this huge number of smashed crosses, crucifixes, and statues of the Virgin Mary?” he wrote.
Anti-Christian desecration has been on the rise in France, although state officials have been reluctant to acknowledge the religious nature of the acts. As Breitbart News reported last March, twelve Christian churches in France were attacked and vandalized in a single week.
The Central Criminal Intelligence Service (SCRC) of the gendarmerie reported in the spring that an average of nearly three churches per day have been targeted for vandalism over the past three years.
In 2018, the Ministry of the Interior recorded 541 anti-Semitic acts, 100 anti-Muslim acts, and 1063 anti-Christian acts.
On Thursday, the prosecutor’s office in nearby Angouleme opened an official investigation into the most recent cemetery vandalism, with a focus on “the deliberate degradation of private property.””

Pics: Indonesian Man Who Enforced Sharia Adultery Laws Flogged… for Adultery (breitbart, Nov 1, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/asia/2019/11/01/pics-indonesian-man-who-enforced-sharia-adultery-laws-flogged-for-adultery/
“A strictly observant Muslim Indonesian man – who worked as a religious policeman enforcing adultery laws – has been publicly whipped after being caught with a married woman. He now stands to lose his job after local Islamic officials expressed a lack of confidence in his ability to discharge his duties.
Aceh Ulema Council (MPU) member Mukhlis helped draft the strict Sharia religious laws ordering adulterers to be publicly flogged and faced the punishment himself when he was publicly thrashed 28 times with a rattan cane on Thursday.
Photos reveal Mukhlis, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, grimacing and flinching during the ordeal in the provincial capital of Banda Aceh, which is controlled by Islamic police.
Aceh Besar deputy regent Husaini Wahab said flogging a council member underlined the commitment to enforcing Islamic law. He told reporters: “No matter who you are … if you violate (Islamic) law you will be whipped”.
Mukhlis would likely be sacked under his employer’s moral code, Wahab added…”
Germany: Arabs try to attack police station to free prisoners+++
Two 16-year-olds caused a police deployment at Ulm main station at around 00:30 a.m. on yesterday’s early Thursday morning. The two youths with Afghan and Iraqi citizenship were first noticed for their aggressive behavior when a train attendant caught the young men in a regional express from Stuttgart to Ulm without a ticket. When they arrived at Ulm Central Station, they were taken to the police station by a police patrol. Since the parents of the two minors could not be found at first, they were to be transferred to a care institution. The Iraqi citizen then insulted the officers, made video and audio recordings of the Federal Police and, according to the current state of investigation, sent these to an acquaintance. Suddenly, his Afghan companion tried to injure himself and had to be fixed. In doing so, he resisted the police measures by fighting the fixation with blows and kicks. A group of about five to eight people had meanwhile gathered in front of the police station and tried to enter it by force. Only after the arrival of assisting police patrols did the group of people flee towards the city centre and could no longer be spotted at first, despite a local search. One of the Federal Police officers was injured at his knee during the attack. The Afghan citizen, who was known to the police, suffered a abrasion on his lower lip and was treated by paramedics. Due to his self-injury, he was subsequently presented in a specialist clinic. His Iraqi companion could be released again after consultation with his parents. The federal police have now begun investigations into suspected insults, resistance against police officers and attempted liberation of prisoners.

Yemeni rebels claim they have shot down a US-made drone (abcnews, Nov 1, 2019)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/yemeni-rebels-claim-shot-us-made-drone-66683072
“Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed they shot down a U.S.-made drone on Friday along the border with Saudi Arabia, according to a statement by the group’s spokesman.
The Shiite rebels, who overran Yemen’s northern parts and the capital, Sanaa, in 2014, have been fighting a Saudi-led and U.S.-backed military coalition since 2015. In recent months, they have shot down at least two American drones.
The spokesman for the Houthis, Brig. Gen. Yehia Sarea, tweeted that a spy plane known as ScanEagle was conducting “espionage and hostile operations” near the southern Saudi province of Asir when the rebels’ brought it down.
However, he did not provide any photographs or footage to corroborate the claim…”

The Biggest Problem Pakistanis Face is Inflation Not Kashmir – Survey (sputniknews, Nov 1, 2019)
https://sputniknews.com/asia/201911011077200720-the-biggest-problem-pakistanis-face-is-inflation-not-kashmir—survey/
“As per the State Bank of Pakistan, the country’s annual inflation rate increased to 12.55 per cent in September 2019, from 11.63 per cent recorded in August.
Pakistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth has slowed down to 3.3 per cent in the financial year 2019 to date — a 2.2 percentage point decline compared to the previous year — due to the stabilisation measures undertaken by the authorities, as per the World Bank.
However, the Pakistan government has maintained its focus on internationalising the Kashmir issue ever since the abrogation of its special status by the Indian Parliament.
A recent survey has reflected that Pakistani citizens have a different outlook on the most significant challenges to their country. They shared that inflation and unemployment are bigger problems and not Kashmir.
The survey conducted by Gallup International in all four provinces – Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh – of the cash-strapped country has also listed the water crisis, corruption and political instability as problems.
According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan, the total debt of Pakistan rose by Rs. 7,509 billion ($48.1 billion) during the first year of the Imran Khan-led government.
In July, Pakistan received a $6 billion bailout package under a 39-month extended arrangement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Thousands marched towards the capital Islamabad on Thursday as part of a protest against the current government’s economic failure. The Azadi March was organised by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman.”
Russian media is the only international voice for the Indian perspective. The others are locked in tard advocacy. That’s pretty much all we get; everything’s slanted against India.
It’s respect for a friend – India and Russia go all the way back – even though the bonds have relaxed in the post-Soviet era. The Arab states watch this relationship closely. Russia gains respect, “face”, for its posture.
You can’t BUY what we lost with the Shah, Mubarak, and Gaddafi. Just as Russia soared in regional esteem for standing by the butcher Assad.
The info about the inflation rate is good and bad, in the short run it helps those who oppose Islam, in the long run it can be one of many triggers that cause a major economic crisis.
Douglas Murray Calls Out BBC for ‘Offence Archaeology’ Ambush (breitbart, Nov 1, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/11/01/douglas-murray-criticises-bbc-offence-archaeology-ambush/
“Douglas Murray has criticised the BBC for inviting him onto a programme to discuss woke culture, only for the presenter to ambush him with “offence archaeology” in order to derail Mr Murray’s argument and effectively “cancel” him live on air.
The discussion arose in light of comments by former President of the United States Barack Obama, who criticised offence archaeology and cancel culture amongst the left, where a person’s past comments are used against them to boycott them and deny them a voice in the public dialogue.
Speaking at the Obama Foundation’s annual summit in Chicago on Tuesday, Mr Obama addressed the problem of “certain young people on social media” who think “the way of making change is to be as judgemental as possible about other people”.
“We have this idea of purity, and you’re never compromised, and you’re always political woke and all that stuff. You should get over that quickly. The world is messy. There are ambiguities,” he told the audience.
Speaking to Nick Robinson on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Thursday, author and journalist Douglas Murray said of the kinds of people engaged in current year cancel culture: “Some people find their meaning of life in this political campaign that involves calling people out, cancelling people, finding the one bit of wrong-think they can from their past and then try to destroy them, claiming they should never speak again.
“This gives some people significant amount of meaning –” Mr Murray set out to continue, before being inexplicably interrupted by the BBC presenter.
Robinson said: “But there is a value in your case for example when you wrote a piece in The Sun in which you said, ‘If we want peace we need one thing — less Islam’, which is extraordinarily offensive to many Muslim people in the country that their religion was what was to blame.”
Perplexed by the non sequitur, Murray responded by saying it was “slightly strange and off-topic for you to pick a different subject” before Robinson interrupted him again several times to bring the conversation back to Mr Murray’s June 2017 article whilst the right-wing author tried to talk about the intolerance of woke culture.
When asked why he was “offended” by the BBC journalist “quoting” him, Mr Murray said: “I’m not offended by you quoting me, I’m offended by you doing a weird, typical, BBC gang-up thing when you decide to go for one person on the right and not somebody on the left.”
He continued: “The point I’m very happy to defend is that after three terrorist attacks in, I think, in six weeks with many, many people dead in this country, I said that what we do not need is to keep having a conversation about the identity issues and the theology issues within Islam and that we didn’t need to have the discussion of our future as a country in Britain endlessly going around the Islam debate.”
With Robinson still trying to interrupt him, Mr Murray continued: “And I’m very happy to keep saying that. And if you want to keep trying to misrepresent me and try to get people like me on-air and then try to jump quotes on us about different subjects instead of having the actual discussion, then I’m sorry that just does what an awful lot of people fear the BBC does.”
During the debate, Mr Murray had managed to make the point that “self-appointed censors” try to “bully other people out of the public square by no-platforming them, by pretending that majority-public opinion is intolerable, by pretending that things that lots of people think [are] somehow beyond the pale, and by changing what we’re all meant to think and say and not being willing to have an actual discussion about it.
“I think we should have proper discussion about serious issues. That’s what Barack Obama has said. The world is messier than social justice activists would like it to be.””
Jonathan Spyer:
Behind the lines: Revolt against Iran’s ‘system’ in Iraq and Lebanon
The Middle East is currently witnessing the first examples of popular rebellion in countries dominated by Iran. In both Iraq and Lebanon, the demonstrators are being confronted with the fact of the domination of their country by an outside-imposed structure. In both situations, the protesters are faced with an unelected, armed, utterly ruthless political-military structure which is the final decider and wielder of power in the country. This structure is controlled from Iran via the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Iranian system most resembles a colonial one, in which the ability of local populations to decide for themselves disappears and an Iran-controlled structure places itself in rule over them. This rule is then conducted in a manner intended to benefit Tehran, with indifference to the economic and other interests of the subject population.

“Behind the Lines” look at revolts in Iraq and Lebanon. (Jonathan Spyer has served on the sharp edge plenty. Soldier, scholar, tinker,
spy.)Compare/contrast Iraq, Lebanon, Chile, Hong Kong, Ecuador, etc. Social media is changing the dynamics of these “leaderless protests”; demonstrators are learning from each other.
The stated agenda sound similar: freedom, anti-corruption, economic reform. Passionately secular.
Even if there’s a master conspiracy[*] driving the global trend, context will determine outcome. So we’ve got to zoom in, focus on the distinctions.

[*]Probably there is. More than one, alternately competing and converging.
I will buy the more then one idea.

The Brexit Mess
The darkness ahead — if we fail in our task.
November 1, 2019
Katie Hopkins
“Katie – what on earth is happening with Brexit?”
It’s a question I have been desperate to answer and have found myself unable to answer — as one day of uncertainty has led into the next. The word ‘unprecedented’ is commonplace in the UK right now.
Trying to give an accurate update on Brexit has been like trying to sell yogurt in the desert. It is past its shelf life even before it reaches the store.
But despite the attempts by our Remain-leaning Parliament to frustrate the will of the people, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally found a way forward, albeit a long way from the “Leave” we were promised for Oct. 31. Even the ceremonial 50p coins minted for the occasion will be smelted down in despair.
Bojo has called a General Election for December 12, 2019 in the hopes of breaking the endless deadlock over Brexit. And despite a desperate effort by the opposition to allow 16-year-olds and 3 million EU foreigners (who do not have British citizenship) to vote, Boris has prevailed.
The British people will go back to polls and vote for a new government to take them into 2020. Boris believes it will give him the majority he needs and a fresh mandate to Get Brexit Done and get us out of the European Union — his battle cry since he entered the House of Commons.

CNN Proves “Facts Don’t Matter” While Accusing FOX News of Anti-Factness
And yes, this comes from Brian Stelter, still in the running as CNN’s biggest embarrassment.
CNN’s headline, “Fox News departure: Catherine Herridge joins CBS News, saying ‘facts matter'” strongly suggests that Catherine left FOX News while blasting it for dishonesty.
Stelter’s own article demonstrates that’s a blatant misrepresentation.
<lockquote)In a statement released through Fox, Herridge thanked Fox patriarch Rupert Murdoch "for the opportunity to cover the most impactful stories of the last 23 years, most recently the Special Counsel report and impeachment inquiry. I have received great personal satisfaction from mentoring the next generation of reporters and producers and sharing my journalistic values — that facts matter and enterprise reporting will always win the day."
In a statement released through CBS, Herridge also invoked the importance of facts, but in a way that could be interpreted as a criticism of Fox: "CBS News has always placed a premium on enterprise journalism and powerful investigations," she said. "I feel privileged to join a team where facts and storytelling will always matter."
Catherine Herridge is clearly making “facts matter” her brand. She used the exact same phrasing to define her relationship with FOX News and CBS News.
It can’t be interpreted as a criticism of FOX News because Stelter just quoted her as saying that “facts matter” in her time at FOX News.

GOP reps say Schiff stopped impeachment witness from answering certain GOP questions

GOP reps say Schiff stopped impeachment witness from answering certain GOP questions
House Republican leaders, in a fiery news conference Tuesday, said House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., prevented a witness in the latest impeachment hearing from answering certain questions from Republican members.
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told reporters that Schiff shut down a Republican line of questioning during a hearing with Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the latest current or former Trump administration official to come before Congress in relation to the impeachment probe.
“When we asked [Vindman] who he spoke to after important events in July — Adam Schiff says, ‘no, no, no, we’re not going to let him answer that question,”‘ Jordan said.
Jordan went on to say that Schiff seemed to be breaking his own rules for the hearings, implying the chairman was acting almost as a “lawyer” for Vindman.

Baghdadi and bin Laden provide lessons on Turkey and Pakistan
…In both Turkey and Pakistan, the U.S. found fickle allies, countries that seemed to sympathize with the very religious extremists the U.S was trying to stop, and which worked with groups in Syria and Afghanistan that were at odds with the U.S.
President Trump has called the wars in Syria and Afghanistan America’s “endless wars” and vows the U.S. will leave. Whether the U.S. fully withdraws or not, in both cases the US has been hamstrung by neighboring countries that appear to only pay lip service to being U.S. allies.
How could Turkey not know that Baghdadi was living in Idlib province in Syria, where Turkey has observation posts and which Turkey controls? He was living almost within shouting distance of the Turkish border when he was caught, in a house that had tunnels that stretched near the border. Iraqi officials even told the Americans that Baghdadi’s wives and brothers had been smuggled to Idlib from Turkey. And how could Pakistan not have known that bin Laden was living so close to its military academy in Abbottabad in 2011?…

Turkey and China Tie Themselves in Knots Over Syria and Xinjiang
https://besacenter.org/perspectives-papers/turkey-china-syria-xinjiang/
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Turkey expects Chinese support for its incursion into Syria against the Kurds, but in return, China expects Turkey to turn a blind eye to its persecution of Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang. Turkey’s refusal to fully recognize Kurdish rights is thus intertwined with China’s brutal crackdown in its troubled northwestern province. Both parties justify their actions as efforts in the fight against terrorism.
Turkey’s ambassador to China, Emin Onen, didn’t mince words when he took his Chinese hosts to task for failing to support Turkey’s military campaign against a Kurdish militia in Syria.
Speaking in Turkish through a translator at a news conference at his Beijing embassy, Onen put China on the spot by calling on it to stand with Turkey in its fight against political violence.
In doing so, Onen laid bare longstanding strains in Turkish-Chinese relations as well as contradictions that link Turkey’s refusal to fully recognize Kurdish rights to China’s brutal crackdown in its troubled northwestern province of Xinjiang.
Chinese officials have long sought to prevent Turkey from speaking out on the crackdown. They do this by privately arguing in discussions with their Turkish counterparts that China’s massive effort to fundamentally alter the belief system of Turkic Muslims, packaged as a fight against political violence, is no different from Turkish attitudes toward the Kurds.

Turkey hits back at China’s call to stop military action in Syria
Turkey has hit back at China’s criticism of its military incursion into Syria against Kurdish-led forces, saying it strongly disagreed with Beijing’s call for Ankara to “return to the right track
”.
In Beijing on Monday, Emin Onen, Turkey’s ambassador to China, also called on Beijing to stand with his country to fight terrorism, reviving tensions over Beijing’s treatment of Uygur Muslims in Xinjiang, and Turkey’s treatment of Kurds.
Onen was responding to comments last week by Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, urging “Turkey to halt military action and to return to the right track, resolving the issue with political solutions”.

French Rafale jets strike ISIS tunnels in northeastern Iraq
https://thedefensepost.com/2019/11/01/france-strikes-isis-tunnel-iraq/
“French Rafale fighter aircraft conducted a strike on a number of Islamic State tunnels in northeastern Iraq, the French defense ministry said in a Friday release.
The strikes were conducted on Thursday, October 31 as part of Operation Chammal, France’s contribution to Operation Inherent Resolve, the multinational Coalition military effort against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
“The operation was conducted jointly and coordinated with other elements of the international Coalition. The aim was to destroy several tunnels used by Daesh as a rear base for its actions, and to degrade its logistical and military capabilities in this region,” the release said.
“This strike was prepared with our allies as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. It was preceded by reconnaissance by an Atlantic 2 maritime patrol aircraft, and was supported by a Reaper UAV from the Coalition.”
“The absence of a civilian population around the target had been confirmed previously, and again at the time of the strike,” according to the release…”

Saudi Arabia Provides $18 B Worth of Humanitarian Assistance to Help Refugees
https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1971586/saudi-arabia-provides-18-b-worth-humanitarian-assistance-help-refugees
“Saudi Arabia confirmed that it has provided nearly $18 billion worth of humanitarian assistance to alleviate the sufferings of refugees who were displaced from their homelands.
In a speech during a debate on the high commissioner for refugees affairs report at the third committee as part of the 74th general assembly, third secretary Faisal bin Fahd bin Jadeed said political, economic and social changes have forced vast numbers of people to move to Saudi Arabia, seeking better living conditions.
Accordingly, upon humanitarian considerations, the Kingdom has taken number of measures to serve this category.
He said Saudi Arabia has granted more than 50,000 persons the Saudi nationality, and more than 800 identity cards enabling them to move, work, enjoy education, and health care free of charge.
Saudi Arabia grants its nationality to any child whose parents are unknown, he said, adding that the Kingdom is among the world’s biggest donors, citing that it has provided more than $160 million for Syrian refugees and is currently implementing as many as 129 programs through KSrelief in support of refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Greece as well as Yemenis in Somalia and Djibouti.
The Kingdom supported the Rohingya with more than $38 million and the Palestinian people with a total of more than $900 million, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
In addition, there are 1.74 million refugees living in Saudi Arabia, but receive visitors treatment upon humanitarian considerations, he concluded.”
ISIS Presence Evolved Worldwide Despite Syria Defeat, Warns US State Department
https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1971951/isis-presence-evolved-worldwide-despite-syria-defeat-warns-us-state-department
“The global presence of ISIS continued to advance in 2018 through networks and affiliates, the State Department said in its annual terrorism report, even though the Trump administration declared it defeated the terror group in Syria and killed its leader last month in a US raid.
Iran has also remained a top state sponsor of terrorism, the report said, and funneled nearly a billion dollars per year to support its proxies in the region despite Washington having significantly ramped up its sanctions against Tehran.
Terrorism tactics and the use of technologies have also evolved in 2018, while war-hardened fighters from groups such as ISIS returning to their home countries began raising fresh threats, the report said.
“Even as ISIS lost almost all its physical territory, the group proved its ability to adapt, especially through its efforts to inspire or direct followers online,” said Nathan Sales, the US counter-terrorism coordinator, whose office produced the congressionally mandated report.
“Additionally, battle-hardened terrorists headed home from the war zone in Syria and Iraq or traveled to third countries, posing new dangers,” he said.
ISIS declared its so-called “caliphate” in 2014 after seizing large swathes of Syria and Iraq. The hard-line group established its de facto capital in the Syrian city of Raqqa, using it as a base to plot attacks in Europe.
In 2017, ISIS lost control of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria, and quickly thereafter almost all of its territory as a result of operations by US-backed forces. Its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed last month in Syria in a raid by US Special forces.
World leaders welcomed his death, but they and security experts warned that the group remained a security threat in Syria and beyond.
The group on Thursday confirmed his death in an audio tape posted online and said a successor, identified as Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, had been appointed. It vowed revenge against the United States.”

Azadi March: Maulana Fazl sets two-day deadline for PM Imran to resign
https://tribune.com.pk/story/2091249/1-bilawal-says-democracy-threat-joins-jui-fs-azadi-march/
“Ratcheting up pressure on the beleaguered government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has set a two-day deadline for Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down.
“People have given their verdict… they want freedom from this government,” the 66-year-old firebrand cleric said while addressing tens of thousands of opposition workers camping in Sector H-9 on Friday.
Thousands of JUI-F workers converged on the capital late Thursday night after a five-day marathon journey – dubbed Azadi March (Freedom March) – which started from Karachi on October 27.
Travelling in buses, cars and on motorcycles the main caravan of JUI-F workers, led by Maulana Fazl, had stopovers at different towns and cities en route to the capital.
The caravan reached the capital on October 31 and camped at a vast ground in Sector H-9 designated for the protest where they were joined by workers of other opposition parties – including PPP, PML-N, ANP and PkMAP.
The two opposition parties – the PPP and the PML-N – have thrown their weight behind the Maulana because their leaders are facing corruption charges which they claim are part of Premier Imran’s political vendetta…”
Greek parliament passes a controversial new asylum law (hurriyetdailynews, Nov 1, 2019)
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/greek-parliament-passes-a-controversial-new-asylum-law-148195
“The Greek parliament has passed a controversial new asylum law early on Nov. 1 aiming to control the number of migrants entering the country.
The bill aims to ease the pressure on the Eastern Aegean islands by speeding the procedures needed to return migrants to Turkey who do not meet the requirements to be granted asylum.
It was backed by ruling New Democracy MPs and the Movement of Change party.
Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), the Greek Communist Party (KKE), Greek Solution and Mera25 voted against the law.
The voting came after a tense debate between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras.
“The asylum law gives a clear message: Those who know they do not merit asylum but try to enter and stay in our country will no longer be tolerated,” Mitsotakis said.
The Greek premier has vowed to take a much stricter stance than the previous leftist SYRIZA government and has promised to deport around 10,000 migrants by the end of 2020.
The situation however on Greek hotspots is dramatic according to several human rights organizations.
Since the beginning of 2019, 53,462 asylum seekers have reached islands in the Aegean Sea from Turkey, compared to 42,010 during the same period in 2018, Human Rights Watch has said.
The situation on the Greek islands, where 34,400 women, men, and children are trapped in abysmal conditions, has reached a crisis point, the organization said.
Earlier, Dunja Mijatovic, commissioner for human rights at the Council of Europe, said on Oct. 31 after visiting camps on Lesvos and Samos islands that the situation was dramatically worsened and expressed her concern on the bill that it could lead to human rights abuses, describing the situation as “explosive”.”
