This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

      The acting Director of National Intelligence threatened to resign over concerns that the White House might attempt to force him to stonewall Congress when he testifies Thursday about an explosive whistleblower complaint about the president, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

      The revelation reflects the extraordinary tensions between the White House and the nation’s highest-ranking intelligence official over a matter that has triggered impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

      The officials said that Joseph Maguire, who was thrust into the top intelligence post last month, warned the White House that he was not willing to withhold information from Congress, where he is scheduled to testify in open and closed hearings on Thursday.

      The move was in part designed to force the White House to make an explicit legal decision on whether it was going to assert executive privilege over the whistleblower complaint, which centers on a call that Trump made with the leader of Ukraine in late July.

      In essence, Maguire was serving notice that he intended to cooperate with lawmakers unless the White House moved forward with a legal case to prevent him from doing so, the officials said.

      The White House disputed the account. “This is actually not true,” White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a tweet. A spokeswoman for the director said that to her knowledge Maguire had not threatened to quit.”

      Maguire has been caught in the middle of a fight between Congress and the executive branch over the contents of the whistleblower report since it reached his office late last month.

      He has at times expressed his displeasure to White House counsel Pat Cipollone and others that the White House had put him in the untenable position of denying the material to Congress over a claim that it did not fall within his jurisdiction as leader of the intelligence community.

      The contents of Trump’s call were released by the White House on Wednesday, showing that Trump repeatedly pressured Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to pursue investigations that might yield political dirt against Trump’s adversaries including former Vice President Joe Biden.

      Maguire became DNI last month after the resignations of previous director Daniel Coats and Trump’s refusal to allow the deputy director, Sue Gordon, to step into the senior job.

      Since the whistleblower controversy erupted earlier this month, Maguire has been the target of harsh criticism from Democratic lawmakers who accuse him of blocking the complaint from being transmitted to Congress.

      It was unclear whether Maguire’s threat had forced the White House to acquiesce and allow him to testify without constraint. But officials said Maguire has pursued the opportunity to meet with lawmakers to defend his actions and integrity.

      In his only public statement on the matter, issued Tuesday evening, Maguire said, “In light of recent reporting on the whistleblower complaint, I want to make clear that I have upheld my responsibility to follow the law every step of the way.”

      “ I am committed to protecting whistleblowers and ensuring every complaint is handled appropriately,” Maguire added. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Administration and Congress to find a resolution regarding this important matter.”

        The far-left Washington Post has once again been caught spreading fake news, this time with a phony “bombshell” about President Trump’s acting Director of National Intelligence threatening to resign.

        The fake story, which ran Wednesday afternoon, claims:

        The acting Director of National Intelligence [Joseph Maguire] threatened to resign over concerns that the White House might attempt to force him to stonewall Congress when he testifies Thursday about an explosive whistleblower complaint about the president, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

        The story was published just hours after the White House released the transcript of a call between Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky. The transcript debunked the latest Media-Democrat hoax that claims Trump pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden. The actual transcript shows no such thing, and during a press conference with Trump on Wednesday, Ukraine’s president confirmed he was not pressured.

        Just moments after the Post’s phony story ran, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham released a statement on Twitter that says of the Post story, “This is actually not true. And we would have gone on the record to say that if the @washingtonpost had given us more than 6 minutes (literally) to respond.”

        A few moments later, Maguire himself released a statement debunking the Post’s fake news: “At no time have I considered resigning my position since assuming this role on Aug. 16, 2019. I have never quit anything in my life, and I am not going to start now. I am committed to leading the Intelligence Community…”

        Throughout the nearly three years of the media’s Russia Collusion Hoax, along with CNN and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, the Post was one of the leading purveyors of fake news, including a ludicrous story about the Russians hacking into a Vermont power grid.

        Then there was the Post’s now-debunked claim the Obama administration did not spy on Trump (it did), and the phony claim the Trump campaign changed its platform on Ukraine to appease Putin (it didn’t). On top of that nonsense was the Post’s ludicrous fake news about Russia hacking the election systems of 21 states, the claim there is a lot of evidence of Trump-Russia collusion (there is none), the whopper about Trump revealing classified information to the Russians (he did not), and this extra large whopper: “Rudy Giuliani just told America that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.”

        Publishing a flurry of fake news as one of its hoaxes collapses, in this case the Ukraine Hoax, is standard operating procedure for the Washington Post and the rest of our crooked news media. The idea is to distract from the debunking of the primary hoax with a chaos narrative that hurls anything against the wall. This garbage never sticks, but it does allow our fake media to hold on to the dream that they really got Drumpf this time a little while longer.

    Anyhow this piece takes an overview of AI. It isn’t so long. I just find it interesting how similar this industry seems to the arms industry in its amoral approach to selling something sinister. But this is the way of it, and money is money.

  6. Far from all national parliaments, far from all observations by the media, the EU Commission and Parliament secretly decide on any nonsense that will become national policy months or years later. As with the nitrogen oxide limits of diesel engines, as with the Global Compact on Migration.

    An almost grotesque nonsense was passed this March: A resolution on the fundamental rights of people of African descent in Europe. Six pages so full of historical ignorance, distortions and falsifications that it takes your breath away.

    All European states, it says, are guilty of colonialism. (Probably above all Finland, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Romania.) Everywhere even today there is the worst discrimination, structural racism and, a new word: “Afrophobia”.

    Of course the prosecution, schools and social systems in Europe are racist, biased and of course the Africans, literally: “contributed considerably to the construction of European society”.

    And because all this is so, it needs a “month of black history and compensation and, as a measure of reparation, direct favouring of Africans on the housing and labour market” and so on.

    “According to a Swedish trade union, the criminal situation has gotten progressively worse, and nine of out ten librarians experience “social anxiety” in their workplaces.

    Swedish librarians are voicing their concern about an alarming development that includes violence and drug dealing, national broadcaster SVT reported.

    In a new survey performed by the trade union DIK, 1,618 librarians testified to increasing social unrest on their premises. According to SVT, threats and violence occur mainly in the public libraries located in the country’s suburbs.

    Noise and aggressive behaviour turned out to be the biggest problem, having increased from 73 percent in 2017 to 81 percent.

    Another 55 percent of public library staff and 42 percent of school librarians testified to encountering violence over the past two years, marking an increase of 13 and 18 percent, respectively, compared to 2017.

    However, the report also indicated a new trend: library property is increasingly being used for drug dealing. Nearly half of the public libraries who answered the questionnaire (47 percent) admitted that drug trafficking has occurred on their premises in the past two years.

    According to SVT, threats and violence occur mainly in the public libraries located in the country’s suburbs.

    DIK chair Anna Troberg suggested the surveys indicate that situation is getting worse and worse. The way it stands today, nine out of ten librarians experience “social anxiety” in their workplace.

    “No one should have to face these kinds of situations in their workplace”, DIK community manager Stina Hamberg told SVT.”

    The leader of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), who faces a national election on Sunday, told German media that he had a “feeling” that the number of migrants crossing into Europe from Africa and the Middle East could once again be on the rise, Kronen Zeitung reports.

    “Not only do I have the feeling that something is brewing. But I also have the feeling that we in Europe are partly to blame,” Kurz said.

    Kurz slammed the new Italian leftist coalition government saying they had enacted a “reversal in migration policy” by opening the country’s ports to migrant transport NGOs.

    This criticism was echoed last week by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó who argued that Europe was safer when populist leader Matteo Salvini occupied the post of interior minister due to his anti-mass migration policies.

    According to Kurz, the open borders attitudes of the new Italian government send “very incorrect signals in the direction of Africa and in the direction of the people smugglers”.

    In recent weeks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has also put pressure of the European Union to aid the building of housing along the Syrian border to accommodate Syrian refugees, threatening to unleash a wave of migrants into Greece if Europe does not contribute.

    “If we go on his playing field, then we will pay more and more to him and he will increasingly have the impression that he has us in the palm of his hand,” Kurz said and added: “If people are rescued in the Mediterranean, we should do everything possible to put them back in their countries of origin.”

    While Kurz and the ÖVP are expected to come first in Sunday’s snap election, many have speculated who their coalition partner or partners will be.

    The populist Freedom Party, whose former leader resigned as a result of the Ibiza scandal that led to the fall of Kurz’s government, is also highly critical of allowing migrant transport NGOs to resume docking in Italy.

    Former interior minister Herbert Kickl also slammed plans for an EU-wide migrant redistribution system saying: “The only signal in the right direction would be to rigorously ban NGO ships from docking in European ports and force them to bring people back to their base in North Africa.””

    Computers across Hollywood are mysteriously breaking down, leaving studios unable to work on films.

    The problem appears to be an issue with the Avid software that is used to produce films, and the Mac Pro computers that it is loaded onto.

    It means that the Apple computers are failing to turn reboot, triggering panic among users who rely on the systems to create some of the world’s most famous films.

  27. 1st snowstorm of season eyes northern US, southern Canada

    Winter conditions typically come early to the United States northern Rockies and Canada Prairies and an upcoming potent storm will be a harsh reminder with the first significant snowfall of the season, not even a week into autumn.

    The general accumulation of snow, likely to measured in feet, will occur along with a substantial drop in temperature.

    Because of the early-season and severe nature of this storm, people in the back country will be at risk for becoming stranded for days with well below-freezing temperatures at night.

    Rain showers are forecast to occur from late Wednesday or Thursday into early Friday over portions of southeastern British Columbia, southwestern Alberta, northern Idaho and western and central Montana.

  28. Sen. Sanders proposes new wealth tax, claims billionaires should not exist

    2020 candidate Bernie Sanders is proposing a controversial new wealth tax, which goes even further than the plan pushed by his chief rival Elizabeth Warren. Sanders tweeted a link to his proposal Tuesday with the caption “there should be no billionaires.”

    The new tax rates would apply to those with a net worth above $32 million, and would reportedly raise over $4 trillion within a decade. The money would go toward funding Sanders social programs such as Medicare for All and universal child care. The Vermont senator even suggested creating a “national wealth registry” to make sure everyone singled out by the wealth tax pays.

    The Sanders campaign has even touted how the plan would cut in half the wealth of billionaires over the next 15 years. The underlying premise used by the democratic socialist to support this confiscation scheme is the belief that income inequality is a moral failing that only the government can fix. What Sanders fails to take into account is that America has long been a powerhouse of innovation and wealth creation on the world stage precisely because of our basis in free market capitalism.

  29. Dozens of Hong Kong protesters appear in court on rioting charges

    HONG KONG (Reuters) – Dozens of Hong Kong anti-government protesters appeared in court on Wednesday charged with rioting and other offences over violent clashes two months ago near China’s main representative office.

    Police clashed with thousands of protesters in the former British colony on July 28 as they sought to defend the Hong Kong Liaison Office, a symbol of Chinese rule, from the crowds. Officers fired tear gas, rubber bullets and sponge grenades.

    The mostly young activists in hard hats and gas masks dismantled street signs and fences which they used to form makeshift barricades to slow police advances. This is now a common tactic, met by the same response, almost every weekend.

    A week earlier, on July 21, they had daubed slogans on the walls of the Liaison Office and thrown paint bombs at it.

    The court on Wednesday adjourned the case until Nov. 19 after prosecutors said they needed more time to study 35 hours of video, including police, online and CCTV footage. The 44 defendants were released on bail.

    Violence has hit parts of Hong Kong at different times over the last three months, but life goes on as normal most of the time.

    Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister and state councilor, said Beijing would not bow to threats, including on trade, though he said he hoped a round of high-level trade talks next month would produce positive results.

    In a speech on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York – which Wang is expected to address on Friday – he urged a move away from confrontation between the two biggest global economies, saying they should cooperate for mutual benefit and for that of rest of the world.

    Earlier on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump had a stern message for China and its president, Xi Jinping, in his speech at the U.N. General Assembly, saying that the United States would no longer tolerate Beijing’s trade practices and that he would not accept a “bad deal” with China on trade.

    He also warned that the world was watching how Beijing handles mass demonstrations in Hong Kong that have heightened fears of a potential Chinese crackdown.

    Nancy Pelosi puts the cart before the horse in announcing ‘impeachment inquiry’

    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced this as a “formal impeachment inquiry.” But no evidence of a high crime or misdemeanor (or a low one, for that matter) has been referred to Congress, or uncovered by any proceeding in Congress. Nor has there been a vote of the House to proceed with an impeachment inquiry, formally designated.

    If you don’t like calling it a “witch hunt,” please act according to your preference and call it something else. What Republicans argue it is not, however, is a formal impeachment inquiry. (See House Minority Leader Keven McCarthy, below.)

    McCarthy and other Republicans argue that to be a formal impeachment inquiry, it would have to be voted on by the full House and have a substantive matter for impeachment. The Speaker doesn’t just get to say there’s an impeachment inquiry with a hand-wave, dub it a formal inquiry by the same method, and then invoke the investigative powers of Congress without a substantive matter to refer to for subpoenas and the scope of inquiry.

The Democrat leadership wants to defeat President Trump by winning an election, but its leftist hard core will settle for nothing less than impeachment even if it means four more years.

    Speaker Pelosi opposes impeachment because she’s seen the numbers. Impeachment polls badly with independents, would increase turnout among Republicans, and doesn’t even score well with Democrats. The impeachment obsession has led to the perception among a majority of voters that the House is focused on going after President Trump to the exclusion of all else. Like actual bread-and-butter issues.

    Unlike the average ActBlue donor and San Francisco billionaire, the average voter doesn’t actually want his elected officials spending all their time holding three hundred hearings about Trump every week.

    So why the unpopular impeachment push that can’t succeed because of the composition of the Senate?

    “A group of Moroccans with dual nationality published a manifesto, on September 24, rejecting their Moroccan nationality and requesting the support of the Dutch government in cutting ties with Morocco.

    The first lines of the manifesto read, “we, Dutch citizens with dual nationality, the Moroccan nationality, which we have not freely chosen, turn to Dutch society and the Dutch government to help us get rid of the fear and lack of freedom inevitably linked to our second nationality.”

    The signatories argued that, after living for 50 years in the Netherlands, they “want full Dutch citizenship, both in the Netherlands and abroad.”

    They expressed their wish to be free in choosing dual nationality and “to not be obliged by a foreign power to be a lifelong national.”

    The manifesto further noted that, since the 1970s, Morocco has “created a range of government institutions to spy on, intimidate, recruit, and corrupt Moroccans in the Netherlands.”

    According to the manifesto, such institutions include the advisory board of King Mohammed VI (CCME), the Ministry of ‘Moroccans Abroad’, and the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Abroad.

    The signatories further explained that the Moroccan state’s “ultimate goal” is to gain power and influence in Europe and to ensure a constant flow of money from the country’s diaspora.

    “By placing the Moroccan law above the Dutch law, the Netherlands now allows nearly 400,000 of its citizens to remain under Morocco’s interference, control, and laws,” added the signatories.

    They stated that “the Dutch nationality of [Moroccan] citizens … turns out to be worthless” as they “do not feel free to openly express their opinions on freedom, human rights violations, and the failing rule of law in Morocco.”

    The manifesto signatories include Laila Ezzeroili (publicist), Asis Aynan (writer), Mohand Abttoy (artist), and Abdelhafid Akallouch (journalist).

    The manifesto concluded with the citizens’ “hope that the Netherlands learns from our negative experiences with a compulsory second nationality and that foreign powers such as Morocco no longer hold any power over its citizens.””

    E da qualche settimana, il sindaco 34enne del paese, Nello Donnarumma, è sotto attacco, colpevole di aver negato alla comunità bengalese la possibilità di pregare nelle piazze e per le strade. “Mi hanno presentato un foglietto di quattro righe con il nome della via, il giorno e l’ ora, e basta – ha spiegato il primo cittadino alla Verità – E allora, per motivi di ordine pubblico, ho detto no. Non c’ entra il razzismo, non c’ entra la politica, è solo una gestione tecnica e organizzativa”. La comunità musulmana, infatti, avrebbe voluto riunirsi ogni venerdì, a pregare in una delle piazze comunali: “Uno scenario allo stato attuale improponibile”. Per garantire la sicurezza, infatti, avrebbero dovuto essere impiegati numerosi agenti di polizia locale, una forza che il Comune non possiede.

    Il sindaco dichiara che avrebbe dovuto pensare ad un servizio specifico per l’evento e “lasciare incustodito il resto della città”. Inoltre, a Palma Campania, in caso di eventi non organizzati dal Comune, dovrebbero pensarci i privati a pagare i vigili.

    Dopo il “no”, la comunità bengalese ha protestato contro Donnarumma, chiedendone la “sfiducia”, ma il primo cittadino non molla: “Ho spiegato chiaramente a tutti che continuerò a dire no se non ci sarà un aiuto concreto: servono uomini delle forze dell’ ordine che ci sollevino dall’ onere di gestire, da soli, questo genere di cerimonia”. Nel frattempo, però, ha chiesto la convocazione di un tavolo, con le altre amministrazioni della zona, per cercare di discutere della situazione.

    Non è una questione di razzismo e il sindaco ci tiene a precisare che sostiene l’importanza nel tutelare tutte le confessioni religione, “ma io sono il responsabile della pubblica sicurezza nel mio Comune e non posso permettere che ci siano situazioni potenzialmente pericolose”. E, su Facebook, si sfoga: “Se provi a far rispettare le leggi dello stato e garantire la sicurezza sei tacciato di essere della Lega o un razzista”.

    In realtà, specifica il primo cittadino di Palma Campania alla Verità, un “problema” con la comunità bengalese c’è ed è di carattere igienico-sanitario: “Su una popolazione di 2.000 residenti ufficiali, il 90 per cento è composto da uomini che vivono in condizioni disastrose”, racconta e specifica che in alcuni locali grandi poco meno di 50 metri quadrati vivono in 15 o 20 persone.
