Anyone who sees the video recordings that have been spreading via the social networks since yesterday cannot but spontaneously think of “civil war”:In the Berlin district of Neukölln, known for its no go areas and the Arab clans, about 50 people, mostly Syrians and Lebanese, have fought a brutal mass brawl with machete and knife in the streets, according to unconfirmed information.The police report states: “Yesterday afternoon there was a dispute between two groups in Neukölln. Shortly before 4 p.m., witnesses alerted the police in the street Weserstraße, because there had been a brawl.According to previous investigations, a car with which two 22 and 36 year old men were on their way to a meeting was first attacked and the car damaged. Shortly thereafter, there was a dispute between 40 to 50 people. It is said that irritant gas and traffic signs were also used. The two men who had come by car to the street Weserstraße were also among the persons involved. With the arrival of the police forces, the situation calmed down.The 22-year-old had suffered head, arm and torso injuries during the fight and the 36-year-old had suffered head and leg injuries. In addition, a 28-year-old man complained of eye irritation and a 13-year-old boy had suffered a head injury during the quarrel. The men and the boy were treated on an outpatient basis.The street Weserstraße was blocked until about 7.20 pm. Among other things, knives and a machete were found and confiscated at the scene. Investigations into the exact course of events and the backgrounds are ongoing. Criminal charges were filed for particularly serious breach of the peace, dangerous bodily harm and damage to cars.

In Iran, everyone is talking about the sextapes of two Iranian politicians that were leaked on social media in early August. This is the first time that such compromising videos of politicians have been leaked since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. For many Iranians, these videos highlight the hypocrisy of those who fervently defend Islamic morality.
The first sextape was posted online on August 4. The four-minute video, which was clearly filmed with a hidden camera, shows Ali Mohammad Ahmadi — the former governor of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, a province in southwestern Iran — having sexual relations with a woman.

Local media outlets, said to have close ties to Ahmadi, alleged that the politician had been set up by a foreign intelligence agency who tried to force him to travel to Canada and take part in a television program critical of the Iranian government.
These same media outlets claimed that Ahmadi refused and that the video was leaked as a result. A close associate of Ahmadi’s swore that the woman in the video was his “legitimate wife under Islamic law”. In reality, however, Ahmadi has been married to the same woman for years… and she is definitely not the woman who appears in the sextape.

Chinese troop movement into Hong Kong prompts unease
Movements, which have been portrayed as a scheduled troop rotation, come days ahead of anti-government protests
Chinese military vehicles have been seen moving across the border into Hong Kong, in what the military said were regular troop movements, as fears rose that the city could see a Beijing-led crackdown after months of political unrest.
Following witness reports of the movements in the early hours of Thursday, state-run news agency Xinhua released a report that the Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was making a scheduled rotation and that it was an “annual normal routine”.
The images published by Xinhua showed armoured carriers and trucks carrying troops at the border, and a naval vessel arriving in Hong Kong.
In the previous two rotations – in 2017 and 2018 – state media reports noted that the number of troops and equipment had not changed. This year the report does not include that detail. It is estimated there are between 8,000 and 10,000 troops in the garrison, on either side of the border.

US President Donald Trump has said in an interview with Fox News Radio that Washington will have to prolong the US presence in Afghanistan, even after the peace agreement with the Taliban is concluded.
“Oh yeah, you have to keep a presence. We’re going to keep a presence there. We’re reducing that presence very substantially and we’re going to always have a presence. We’re going to have high intelligence”, Trump told Fox News Radio. “If they ever did anything from Afghanistan, we will come back with a force they have never seen before.”
According to President Trump, the size of the US contingent in the Central Asian country will first fall to 8,600 troops.
“We will go down to 8,600, and then we will make a determination from there as to what happens”, Trump said.
The statement comes as US and Taliban representatives are engaged in peace talks on an Afghanistan peace deal in Doha, Qatar.
Despite having nine rounds of talks since last year, all the negotiations notably excluded the Afghan authorities as the Taliban regards the administration in Kabul as an illegitimate puppet government.
On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow was ready to offer its assistance in the US-Taliban talks and act as a guarantor, should such a proposal be received.
Afghanistan has been ravaged by political and social instability as well as armed conflict since Washington and its allies launched a military operation in Afghanistan in 2001 following the 9/11 attacks, which were staged by al-Qaeda, terrorist group banned in Russia.
In February, the New York Times reported that a new Defence Department proposal for the peace talks with the Taliban called for all US troops – about 14,000 – to be withdrawn in the next three to five years along with the rest of the international force.”

The call is significant in light of the Pakistani leadership proclaiming its full support to the people of Kashmir and their attempts to highlight the ongoing role of Indian security forces in the region.
In the latest development, Pakistan security forces have moved closer to the Line of Control (Loc) that divides the two countries while the Pakistan army confirmed that the country has test-fired surface-to-surface ballistic missile ‘Ghaznavi’, capable of delivering multiple warheads.
According to Imtiyaz Hussian, Senior Superintendent of Police, (Security), Srinagar, which is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the region has been witnessing a “proxy war” for more than seven decades and the local administration is determined to quell all forms of anti-India propaganda.
Rubbishing an international news agency report that the Jammu and Kashmir police were disarmed in one incident that led to clashes between local police and Indian security forces, Hussian said: “Police always use non-lethal weapons. Weapons were not used for crowd control, the news agency created a false impression that weapons have been withdrawn from police.”
In a tweet on Tuesday (27 August), Hussain said foreign media outlets such as the BBC were guilty of deliberately misrepresenting the situation in Kashmir.
Stating that to control rumour-mongering and fake news, internet services had been barred for some time, Hussain said. “Local journalists are reporting factually incorrect and biased stories based on rumours.”
“We have tried to stop rumours of Pakistani sympathisers in Kashmir who are working as their paid agents. We have been facing a proxy war here for the past 70 years. I have busted dozens of fake news stories and made them public,” the officer said.
According to historian and author Professor Hari Om, Jammu and Kashmir has been a victim of rumours since 1913.
Stating Kashmir’s problem is rumour-mongering, the historian said: “The political leadership of Kashmir has survived only because of rumours. A major rumour post-independence was that the Instrument of Accession between India and the state of Jammu and Kashmir was not permanent. But it is not.”
Another rumour actively spread around in Kashmir is that Islam is in danger: “This is the height of misinformation. How can Islam be in danger when 90 percent of the population is Muslim?”
Some leaders and their supporters used rumours to radicalise others in Kashmir and turned them against the security forces, the historian said.
Some villagers also admitted to being swayed by such misinformation campaigns that later turned out to be false.
“My father had gone to Pakistan because of rumours. But he said he realised the reality there and returned. We have relatives in Pakistan but feel lucky here in India,” said 49-year-old Talib Hussain, a resident of Ghanda Village in Jammu region.
On the Indian government’s decision to revoke special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, Hussain said: “We are sure it is good for us.”
Senior advocate Diwakar Sharma said the communication blockade has saved many lives. “The internet has been used in the state to spread false rumours of incidents.”
“A lot of lives have been lost in the past due to rumours. The government is now restoring broadband and mobile services soon. We are happy here, whether in Jammu, Ladakh or Kashmir,” he added.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has also cautioned people to beware of rumours.
The situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been tense since the Indian Parliament scrapped the region’s special status earlier this month, separating the state into two separate union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The new system is likely to come into effect in October.
Ahead of the move, the government pushed prohibitory orders in Kashmir and took all the leaders of regional political parties into preventive custody.
India’s move caused a diplomatic row with Pakistan and in response, Islamabad expelled New Delhi’s envoy to the country, suspending trade, and communication links.”

On Wednesday, Boris Johnson said he wanted to prorogue Parliament in order to bring the current record-breaking session to a close and work on his Government’s new legislative agenda.

“The number of acid attacks in the capital is at record levels, having increased over tenfold in six years, with young children among the victims.
The figures were obtained by the Evening Standard following a freedom of information request to London’s Metropolitan Police Service and revealed that in 2012 there were 66 acid attacks, with that figure rising to 752 in 2018.
Of those, 17 attacks were against children under the age of 10, including a two-year-old boy who had acid thrown at him whilst his parents took him for a walk in his pram near his Islington home in 2017.
Between January 2015 and December 2018, across the 32 boroughs, Newham in east London came out on top with the highest number of attacks at 316; followed by Barking and Dagenham (146), also in east London; the East End borough of Tower Hamlets (113); and Hackney (91) which is divided into two parliamentary constituencies held by Labour’s Diane Abbott and Meg Hillier.
Such attacks include two that occurred on the same day between Christmas 2018 and New Year, when two men were injured in acid attacks in separate incidents, one in Hackney and the other in Tower Hamlets. In June 2019, attackers disguised in burqas threw acid at people in Walthamstow in the Borough of Waltham Forest, which is number seven in the top-ten list of attacks by borough.
While in April 2018, John Tomlin was jailed for 16 years for throwing acid at cousins Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar as they travelled in a car in east London after celebrating Resham’s 21st birthday.
Dr Simon Harding, associate professor in criminology at the University of West London, told the newspaper that acid has become a weapon of choice, with the rise in acid attacks coinciding with a rise in knife crime in 2017 and 2018.
“It can be used in robberies, burglaries, revenge attacks, during thefts of mopeds or to intimidate witnesses,” the leading criminologist said, with the newspaper finding the data revealed that religious or racial hatred and domestic violence were also amongst motivations found.
While the form of assault has been more common in developing countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India — where it is used as a form of punishment in religious-based ‘honour crimes’, and in personal disputes — police revealed in 2017 that the UK was one of the world’s worst for acid attacks.
Government figures released last year revealed that there were on average 15 vitriolage attacks in the UK every day, with three-quarters taking place in London.
“London has sadly become the acid attack hotspot in the western world,” Dr Harding said of the trend.
The summer of 2017 saw a crimewave in the capital involving muggers on mopeds using acid during robberies, with one teen being responsible for five robbery acid attacks taking place in just 84 minutes in London in July 2017.
Nationwide, there were landmark court cases involving acid attacks, including the July 2018 first-of-its-kind conviction and sentencing to 17 years in prison of 19-year-old Xeneral Webster for manslaughter after 47-year-old nurse Joanne Rand died following an acid attack.
While a case in Worcester in July 2018 shocked the nation, when a father organised a “monstrous” acid attack on his three-year-old son, the father and five co-conspirators were sentenced and jailed in March 2019.
Despite the horrific injuries resulting from acid attacks and their growing prominence in the country’s criminal culture, some have sought to make light of them. Amidst the fierce political debating over Brexit ahead of the European Parliament elections in May, where Remain activists were throwing milkshakes at pro-Leave candidates, comedienne Jo Brand suggested that instead of the soft drink, someone should throw battery acid at Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage.
Mr Farage called the comments “incitement of violence”, but police investigating the remarks decided not to take any action.”

“A court in southeastern France on Thursday sentenced the president of the far-right anti-migrant group Generation Identity, its spokesman and a third person to six months in prison for a spectacle-like expedition in the Alps to stop migrants.
Generation Identity president Clement Gandelin, spokesman Romain Espino and Damien Lefevre, who helped organize last-year’s expedition also were deprived of their civic rights, notably not being able to vote in elections, for five years.
The sentences are a huge blow to the identitarian group known for high-profile stunts to promote its anti-migrant and anti-Islam agenda, which has spread across Europe in recent years. Anti-racism activists and the French government have said they want to get Generation Identity banned.
The sentence matches the recommendation of the prosecutor. The court handed a fine of 75,000 euros ($83,000) to Generation Identity, in line with the prosecutor’s demand.
Gandelin, who goes by the name Clement Galant on social media, tweeted the sentence for himself and the spokesman, but made no mention of Lefevre, who goes by the name of Rieu on social media and has worked with far-right politicians. Investigators said Lefevre helped organize the Alpine expedition last year, complete with helicopter and small plane.
The three were arrested and charged after the Alpine expedition into a mountain pass used by migrants to cross from Italy to France.
The three were handed the unusual charge of “exercising activities in conditions that could create confusion with a public function.” Prosecutors alleged their stunt could have been mistaken for a police maneuver.”

The agency said Thursday the migrants were in three boats and picked up in the so-called Alboran Sea, an area east of the Strait of Gibraltar and one of the most common routes for crossing to Europe from North Africa.
The migrants were taken to temporary handling facilities in Spain.
Spain’s Interior Ministry says that by mid-August this year the number of migrants arriving by sea was down 42.5% compared to the same period last year — just under 14,600 compared with more than 25,300 in 2018.
The number of boats making the crossing fell from 1,054 to 542 over the same period.”

Honestly speaking, I would say I have read about 90% of these books. They are wonderful books and isn’t it a shame that an organization has to “lobby” for these books to be available to our children in the public school system.
Many of those books were assigned to me in school. Others, particularly the books for younger children, I read to my children. Make Way For Ducklings and Madeline! I wonder how many times my Mom read those books to me! (The crack on the ceiling had a habit of sometimes looking like a rabbit)
What has happened to us that we demand children be made miserable rather than to let their imaginations run wild?
Just to let you know, I cried for days after finishing The Yearling and Call of the Wild. And that’s a good thing.

ormer President Barack Obama’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) Rule abridged state sovereignty and constituted a federal grab of natural resources on an unprecedented scale when it was issued in 2015, but it may be no more following a federal judge’s ruling.
U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood granted a substantial victory to the 10 states that challenged the rule in the courts. Godbey claimed that the rule violated the Administrative Procedure Act and the Clean Water Act and was therefore unconstitutional.
“The court finds that both because of its combination with tributaries and the selection of over-broad geographic limits without showing a significant nexus, the adjacent waters definition in the WOTUS rule is unlawful under Justice Kennedy’s Rapanos opinion,” Wood wrote.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren took a veiled shot at Hillary Clinton Sunday, defiantly claiming she wouldn’t let President Trump get “handsy” with her during any debates.
The 2020 Democratic hopeful was referencing a moment from the 2016 election in which Clinton alleged Trump had violated her personal space during one of the presidential debates.
Warren made the comments during a campaign event in Seattle, prompted by a fan who wanted to know how she plans to defeat the president, whom they defined as a “bottom feeder.”
“How do you effectively counter a bottom feeder like Trump, where there’s no low that’s too low, without getting down there with him and sacrificing your own high ideals?” the supporter asked, eliciting cheers from the audience.

In four intensely reported investigative columns — here (August 13, 2018), here (October 23, 2018), here (October 30, 2018), and here (November 5, 2018), — David Steinberg has explored the evidence suggesting that Ilhan Omar entered into a sham marriage with her brother in 2009. This is his fifth. He titles it “Meet Leila Elmi: The Missing Link Showing Ilhan Omar Married Her Brother.” Drawing on his research, interviews, and social media evidence he makes the case that Omar has engaged in a variety of fraudulent activities and willful misrepresentations related to her marital arrangements. He writes:
On October 22, 2008, the U.S. State Department stopped accepting applications for the Priority 3/Refugee Family Reunification program — the process by which refugees can apply for asylum if one family member is already a legal U.S. resident. State halted the program because DNA testing — primarily of Somalis — had concluded that perhaps 87 percent of applicants were fraudulently claiming family relationships.
Despite continuing war, Somalia of 2008 was not comparable to the open hell of the early 1990s, when an eight-year-old Ilhan and her family fled to Kenya’s Dadaab refugee camps. She lived there from 1991 until 1995, aged eight to 12. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services then helped Ilhan, her sister Sahra, and their father Nur Said receive asylum in the United States along with thousands of other Somalis.
The complicated moral question of fraud, let alone fault, among this 1990s wave of refugees escaping civil war will never be answered with accurate statistics. We will have to settle for adjectives like “widespread” and “rampant.” Yet the negative outcomes cannot be ignored. Even refugees with strong desire to assimilate with Western civic order are hampered by the possible discovery of conflicting documents. And compromising information becomes leverage in a community already difficult to police.

Canadian authorities deported a violent criminal who was a former Chinese democracy activist, sending back to China a man who once sought political change at home, but committed a series of knife attacks in Canada.
For more than a decade, Yang Wei, 49, has presented Canadian courts and immigration officials with a challenging case: a man jailed in China for demanding the overthrow of the Communist regime before fleeing to Canada where he was arrested for a string of violent acts.
Mr. Yang, who became a permanent resident in 2003, left Toronto for Beijing at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to his lawyer Vanessa Leigh. Friends worry his association with an outlawed Chinese democracy party may place him at risk of incarceration when he arrives back in China. Dissident poet Liao Yiwu has taken up his cause, writing an open letter this week criticizing his deportation.
But Mr. Yang has also been assessed as likely to reoffend in Canada where, according to Toronto police reports from 2006 to 2010, he punched a roommate, threatened a cellphone salesman with a large butcher knife, told a bus driver “I’ll kill you,” brandished a large carving knife at a men’s hostel worker and used a filleting knife to stab at a different bus driver at least 13 times. He received several suspended sentences, but also served four years in federal prison for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Washington invokes “domestic terrorism” to justify police state rule

Behind the backs of the population, a bipartisan group of US lawmakers, military leaders and intelligence agents are engaged in a secret operation to endow the executive branch with dictatorial powers to suppress social opposition in the United States.
On July 27, Donald Trump offered a glimpse of this movement within the state apparatus, tweeting, “Consideration is being given to declaring ANTIFA … a major Organization of Terror (along with MS-13 & others). Would make it easier for police to do their job!” On August 17, Trump repeated the same threat.
Trump has seized upon the actions identified with ANTIFA, a loose amalgam that includes middle class protesters and, no doubt, police provocateurs, in order to label any form of left-wing opposition to fascism “terrorism,” a hallmark of police-state dictatorships from Hitler’s Third Reich to Pinochet’s Chile.

Today, NLPC filed a Complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) alleging that she and her campaign violated the prohibition on the personal use of campaign funds by reimbursing political consultant Tim Mynett for his travel in 2019.
The complaint also charges that Rep. Ilhan Omar failed to itemize travel reimbursements as required by the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 — and that the travel expenses increased during the same month that Omar’s alleged affair with married Washington, D.C. political consultant Tim Mynett, 38, heated up.
Ilhan Omar has denied that she had an affair with Mynett, and her attorneys have dismissed the FEC complaint as a baseless “political ploy.” When asked on Tuesday by WCCO if she was separated from her own husband and if she was dating anyone, Omar replied: “No, I am not. As I said yesterday, I have no interest in really allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it.”

The private memos of former FBI Director James Comey were provided to the Department of Justice’s Inspector General by a whistleblower who was concerned that the documents were sensitive and should be kept separately for safekeeping, according to the inspector general’s bombshell report published Thursday.
The report details how Comey, who was fired by President Trump in 2017, violated bureau policies by drafting, leaking and retaining memos documenting his discussions with the president.

For several years, I was vice president of the US-China Strategic Review Commission, and we spent a lot of time with the top experts. We all generally agreed that China would grow larger and more powerful, but the central question was whether this would be a peaceful transformation or a violent one. Very few of these people (almost all men) thought China could get through the transition without some sort of violent convulsion, as we see today.
Chinese unification has long been a challenge to the chiefs of their dynasties, and today there are three big areas that seek various degrees of independence from Beijing: Tibet, Hong Kong, and the Uighur territories.
Each territory has made its own arrangements with the capital, giving formal control to Beijing while retaining varying degrees of independence for themselves. The Dalai Lama has sworn he will stay away from his Tibetan homeland, but the nature of contemporary communications is such that he maintains a constant channel to his people. The violence in Hong Kong we see daily. And the Uigurs, who for some time received support—including military training—from Iran, are now prime targets of Chairman Xi.
So the Chinese are facing three convulsions, shortly after making Xi president for life, and they are dealing with a nationwide economic challenge that is testing the abilities of Xi and his colleagues to manage the highly ambitious global expansion they have set for themselves. The Belt and Road Initiative, flush with cash just a year ago, is cutting back on investment in places like sub-Saharan Africa. And if you remember all those artificial islands in the South China Sea that the Chinese dredged up in apparent preparation for offensive action in the Pacific, you’ll be surprised to learn that Beijing isn’t pressing ahead to arm them. IDF identifies Iranian officers behind Hezbollah’s secret missile project
Israel has released information on senior Iranian and Hezbollah militants involved in the terror group’s precision missile project in Lebanon.
The group, which has been working on the expensive and classified project since 2013, has been attempting to build factories to produce precision missiles in South Lebanon, Beirut and the Bekaa under the guidance of senior Iranian officers.
The Iranian officers have been identified as Brig. Gen. Muhammad Hussein-Zada Hejazi, Col. Majid Nuab,Brig. Gen. Ali Asrar Nuruzi.
Hejazi is the Lebanon Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Qud’s Force, responsible for all Iranian activities in the country and in charge of the precision guided missile program. He operates directly under the command of Quds Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
Nuab, an engineer who specializes in surface-to-surface missiles is the technological manager of the project. He actively manages and oversees the precision missile sites in Lebanon. Nuruzi is the Chief Logistic Officer of the IRGC and is in charge of transferring logistical components and equipment from Iran through Syria to the project sites in Lebanon.
Senior Hezbollah militant Fu’ad Shukr, a senior military advisor to Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and member of the group’s highest military body the Jihad Council, is the main Hezbollah militant involved in the project.

24-year-old Eliyas Aregahegne, of Northwest D.C., was arrested after reportedly stabbing Margery Magill in Washington DC while she was out walking her dog. Magil was working as a dog walker at the time.
