Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    “The Yemeni Houthi movement has regularly targeted military and civilian positions across the border in Saudi Arabia.

    The Houthis stated Saturday that they had attacked Saudi Arabia’s Shabya oil field with drones. The facilities attacked included a refinery and oil storage, according to reports.

    No official confirmation by Saudi Arabia has been provided yet.

    The day before, a Houthi spokesman said that the group’s militants had launched drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport.

    The Saudi-led coalition is backing the government led by Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi in its fight against the Houthi movement. The conflict has been ongoing for several years leading to a major humanitarian crisis.

    “The main group fighting an insurgency in Thailand’s largely Muslim south said it had held its first meeting with officials from the new Thai government and had set out demands as a condition for any formal peace talks.

    The insurgency in the Malay-speaking region of the predominantly Buddhist country has killed some 7,000 people over the past 15 years and has flared on and off for decades.

    Officials of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) said they met a Thai delegation at a location in Southeast Asia on Friday and demanded the release of all people detained over suspected links to the insurgency and a transparent investigation into abuses by security forces.

    That could be a step toward formal talks, the officials said, while emphasizing that it was very early in the process.

    “If the official peace talks are a feast then these secret meetings are like bringing the cow into the kitchen, but the cow is not even slaughtered yet,” Pak Fakir, 70, a senior BRN member told Reuters in a rare interview.

    “The Thai state is like an oiled, slippery eel,” he said.

    General Udomchai Thamsarorat, the head of peace dialogue with southern insurgent groups for the Thai government, declined to comment on whether a meeting had taken place.

    The BRN has not been in formal talks with the government although contacts did take place at least twice with the former military junta of Prayuth Chan-ocha, who has remained as prime minister after an election earlier this year that his opponents said was flawed.

    ONGOING WAR
    The past contacts with the BRN never led to talks and it has continued a guerrilla war to demand independence for Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces, which were part of an independent Malay sultanate before the kingdom of Siam annexed them in 1909.

    A number of less militarily active southern factions have been in talks with the government.

    “The root cause of our problem is colonization, and this has never been touched upon in past talks,” Fakir said.

    Although the BRN usually neither confirms nor denies responsibility for specific attacks, Fakir said that the group was not behind a series of small bombings that shook Bangkok on Aug. 2.

    The bombs wounded four people and embarrassed the government during a regional security summit. Two suspects from the south have been arrested in connection with the attacks.

    “We will not attack beyond the three southernmost provinces because we do not want to be perceived as terrorists,” Fakir said. “We have our territory. Why should we venture out of it? … Someone else must be behind it.”

    Despite the arrest of the southerners, the government has also suggested that it could be its political opponents that were behind the attacks – although political parties have condemned it and no group has claimed responsibility.

    Tension has been rising in the south over allegations that a southern man, 32-year-old Abdullah Isamusa, was beaten so badly during military interrogation last month that he fell into a coma. The army has said there is no proof of torture.

    Mara Patani, an umbrella group representing some factions that unlike the BRN have been in formal talks with the Thai military, has called for international intervention after the Abdullah case – a request rejected by Thailand’s army.”

    “Swedish police have arrested an Uzbek migrant this week on suspicion of terrorism who had previously been deported from the country and held as an example of successful integration.

    The man, who is said to be in his 30s and is also a citizen of Kazakhstan, was said to have been driving near the Stortorget square in Östersund when he was pulled over by armed police and arrested with investigators discovering items in the car the led them to believe he had been preparing a potential murder, Nyheter Idag reports.

    After the arrest, the Swedish security police Sapo and the prosecutor’s office connected a potential terrorist motive to the man’s actions.

    Witnesses to the arrest said that the man had driven in a strange manner but said he did not appear threatening, with one witness saying they assumed at the time the man was being arrested for being intoxicated while driving.

    According to newspaper Expressen, the man was deported from Sweden in 2016 and was back in the country on a temporary residency permit.

    He had originally come to Sweden in 2012 and claimed that he required asylum after his family had been threatened because his father had prosecuted a mafia boss. He later admitted the story was a fabrication.

    A friend of the man and his family, who had also come to Sweden with him, claimed: “They’re a fantastic family. They wanted to become Swedes properly, live as we do.” Nyheter Idag has also reported that a local newspaper praised the family for their integration into Swedish society.

    The article quoted by Nyheter Idag would identify the suspect as Dilshod Usmanov, stating that he and his wife had learned Swedish and acquired jobs as healthcare assistants.

    The man also told investigators that he had felt threatened to carry out an attack, leading to Prosecutor Henrik Olin to state that another person was likely involved.

    Other Swedish media have speculated that the Uzbek national may have links to Stockholm terror attacker and Islamic State supporter Rahkmat Akilov, who is also originally from Uzbekistan, but prosecutor Olin refused to comment on any possible connections.”

    “Ethiopian migrants to Saudi Arabia are suffering “indescribable hardships and abuses,” according to the latest report by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which described the “exploitation and torture” they were subjected to in Yemen, before being held captive in Saudi Arabia under “abusive” conditions.

    The report – which was released on Thursday – drew on testimonies given by Ethiopian migrants who were expelled from Saudi Arabia. It documented the vulnerability of these people to exploitation, violence and human trafficking, from the beginning of their journey across the Red Sea then through the Gulf of Aden to reach Saudi Arabia.

    The human rights organisation pointed out that the Ethiopian, Yemeni and Saudi authorities “have taken no measures to reduce the violence migrants are subjected to […] or to monitor the violations their security forces are committing”. The report also indicated that the authorities did not help thousands of Ethiopians expelled from Saudi Arabia since 2017 to return.

    “Ethiopians taking the dangerous boat trip across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden are at the risk of exploitation and torture in Yemen by a network of human trafficking groups,” said Human Rights Watch.

    “Many Ethiopians hoping to have a better life in Saudi Arabia face enormous risks during their journey, including drowning in the sea, torture, and all kinds of abuses,” said Felix Horn, a researcher at HRW specialising in African affairs.

    “Saudi Arabia forcibly returned hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians to [the capital] Addis Ababa, without taking the necessary procedures. They acquired nothing but debt and trauma during their journey,” Horn added.

    Many Ethiopians have long sought to go to Saudi Arabia in search of work, in a bid to escape poverty at home. In order to reach Saudi Arabia, they must cross the sea by boats loaded with migrants at high risk of sinking. They receive no food or water during the 24-hour journey.

    One survivor told HRW that the smugglers threw more than 20 of them into the sea to lighten the boat’s load. “The boat was very dangerous and waves [were] overflowing. It was overcrowded and on the verge of sinking, but the smugglers caught some people, about 25, and threw them into the sea,” the witness said.

    As soon as they arrive in Yemen, migrants risk becoming victims of “smuggling and human trafficking networks,” some of which are Ethiopian-run, “abusing or threatening to use violence to extort ransom from relatives or hostage contacts,” the report indicated.

    As they move across the border to Saudi Arabia, Saudi border guards do not hesitate to shoot at migrants, according to the testimonies, which describe many being killed or injured.

    “There were bodies rotting on the border, decomposing. It’s like a grave,” a 26-year-old Ethiopian immigrant told the organisation.

    According to figures released by the International Organisation for Immigration, there were around 500,000 Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia when Riyadh launched a campaign against illegal immigration in 2017.

    According to the group, Saudi authorities have since deported about 260,000 Ethiopians, an average of 10,000 per month between May 2017 and March 2019. The organisation pointed out that deportations are still ongoing.

    Meanwhile, Ethiopia continues to receive assistance from the international community to handle migrants deported from Europe. However, those deported from Saudi Arabia received no support or assistance.

    The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the contents of HRW’s report in response to an Agence France Presse (AFP) inquiry.”

    “Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on Iran on August 16 to release women detained for allegedly dressing as men to circumvent a ban on women attending football matches.

    Reports say six women have been detained since August 12, including Zahra Khoshnavaz, a prominent advocate for ending the ban on women attending public sporting events, and Forough Alaei, an award-winning photojournalist who documented women who defy the ban by disguising as men to be able to attend football matches.

    “Iranian women should not be spending a second in prison because authorities accuse them of peacefully attempting to defy a ridiculous ban that denies women and girls equal rights to attend a football match,” Minky Worden, director of global initiatives at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement published on August 16.

    “Iran should immediately and unconditionally release the women and lift the discriminatory ban on women attending sports matches,” Worden added…”

    Soon online speech will be regulated by Brussels. There is no doubt that new rules and regulations will have a chilling effect on online speech. ISPs, social-media sites and other platforms have businesses to run. Few will want to risk intervention from regulators. Still fewer will chose to defend the free-speech rights of individual users when an EU regulatory body, armed with possibly draconian sanctions, makes a takedown request. Companies will find it far simpler and safer to take down any material that is likely to draw complaints.     • China: Soldiers and military vehicles amass across bay from Hong Kong

      Chinese military and security service vehicles stationed less than five miles (eight kilometres) from the Hong Kong border in Shenzhen were seen on standby on Saturday.

      Soldiers participated in drills and marches across the pitch at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre while vehicles lined up on its perimeter.

      According to reports, hundreds of military vehicles were first spotted by the satellite WorldView in the area surrounding the sports centre on Monday.

      On Thursday, the Chinese ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming held a press conference in which he gave an unequivocal warning to the protesters in Hong Kong, saying China would “not sit on its hands and watch” and that it had “enough solutions and enough power […] to quell any unrest swiftly.”

      Demonstrators are calling for the total withdrawal of a suspended bill that would allow the extradition of the city’s residents to mainland China for trials. They also want Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam to resign and the conduct of Hong Kong’s police during the protests to be investigated.

  19. Lebanon: Thousands watch Hezbollah leader commemorate end 2006 Israel-Lebanon war

    Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech at an event in Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon on Tuesday commemorating the 13th anniversary of the end of the 2006 war with Israel.

    Addressing the crowd via videolink, Nasrallah blamed “Netanyahu, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and some Gulf countries” for conflict in the Middle East.

    He also warned against pursuing war against Iran: “The war on the Islamic Republic means that the whole region will flare up.”

    The 34-day war fought between Hezbollah and the Israel Defence Force (IDF) in 2006 ended in the Lebanese resistance movement pushing back Israeli ground forces from southern Lebanon and a UN-brokered ceasefire. Some 1,191 Lebanese civilians and a reported 44 Israelis civilians were killed during the fighting.

    The Central European University, a private, graduate-level institution founded by George Soros, halted its programmes for asylum seekers last August following the introduction of the so-called “Stop Soros Act”, which aims to suppress organisations and activity promoting immigration.

    The bill, enacted last June, stipulates a 25-percent tax on non-government organisations involved in “programmes, actions and activities which directly or indirectly aim to promote immigration”.

    Anti-immigrant sentiment has run high in Hungary against the backdrop of the migrant crisis that hit Europe in 2015, with hundreds of thousands of people form the Middle East and North Africa seeking asylum in EU member states.

    Even though most asylum seekers weren’t looking to settle in Hungary, they crossed through Budapest and other major cities as they headed towards wealthier EU member states with more generous welfare packages and pro-immigrant governments.”

    ““This is Woke” describes the goal of its accounts on Facebook, Instagram as to keep readers “in the know about issues which matter the most”. The outlet partners with an organisation that engages in discussions around “Muslim tradition and reform”. But according to the Middle East Eye, their content can be traced back to the UK Home Office.

    The social media news platform WOKE, which targets Muslims and people interested in Islam, was set up within the Prevent programme – a project run by the UK Home office to counter terrorism, the London-based website Middle East Eye reports.

    According to the outlet, described as an “independently funded online news organisation”, the content for the “This is Woke” Facebook and Instagram accounts was created by the communications firm “Breakthrough Media”, recently rebranded “Zinc Media”, which served as a contractor for the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism (OSCT), a directorate within the UK Home Office. However, CNN reports that four months ago it stopped working on the account, with the agency M&C Saatchi having since assumed this task.

    WOKE appears to be a millennial-focused platform and includes posts with inspirational quotes from people like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and the second Islamic caliph, Umar ibn al-Khattab, as well as clips about fake news and public issues. It also features videos about Muslim traditions, such as women wearing the hijab or following Ramadan, along with panel discussions and vox pops. Some have gone viral, garnering thousands of views.

    In accordance with the UK’s Freedom of Information Act, the OSCT confirmed to the MEE that it has such a project, but refused to disclose any details, citing security concerns as well as commercial confidentiality.

    The counter-terror office stated that revealing more “would open up detailed information about organisations and individuals who are engaged in the delivery of, and who are supporting activities to prevent terrorism”. According to the OSCT, this would “undermine the effectiveness of the Home Office strategies, and hence weaken and prejudice the national security of the UK”.

    The Prevent programme is viewed as a key counter-radicalisation tool and includes a classified unit called the Research Information and Communications Unit (RICU), which is said to be behind covert propaganda campaigns, the MEE reports. The outlet cites internal documents as saying that the project’s counter-ideological messages are “to effect behavioural and attitudinal change” among so-called “Prevent audiences” – a term used to describe young British Muslim males. Zinc Media, formerly Breakthrough Media, reportedly said in its papers that their aim was to “promote a reconciled British Muslim identity”.

    As CNN points out, the Prevent programme has been accused of promoting discrimination, although the Home Office has denied that it targeted specific demographics, insisting that it was designed to counter “all forms of terrorism, including Islamist and extreme right-wing”.”

      The Facebook page “Woke,” which at first glance, looks like any other millennial-focused online news platform, is actually part of an undercover counter-terror program funded by the U.K. government, according to a report by CNN. The Facebook page is specifically geared toward British Muslims, publishing short, inspirational videos about a variety of topics pertaining to Muslims.

      “Your guide to the most engaging and relevant stories — like us, stay Woke,” reads the “About” section on Woke’s Facebook page. “Stay Woke” refers to U.S. slang describing having a strong sense of social and historical awareness with left-leaning implications.

      “WOKE is a diverse social news platform keeping you in the know about issues which matter the most,” continues the Facebook page description, adding that the platform partners with a “forward looking organisation that engages in critical discussions around Muslim identity, tradition and reform to provide a positive vision of what it means to be Muslim today.”

      The platform publishes memes, content regarding “Islamophobia,” and videos on veganism, fake news, and modern dating, among other topics. In one video, entitled, “Are We All Becoming Snowflakes?” four young panelists discuss whether people in today’s society are too sensitive.

      In another video — which received over 250,000 views — Muslim women describe what it was like the first time they put on “the hijab.” A third video garnering 113,000 views shows a Muslim man who is “on a mission to meet the haters” and meets with a former EDL member, where the two are seen enjoying each other’s company while spending the day with the Muslim’s man family.

      The news site Middle East Eye, however, says that Woke was created by a communications agency as part of a U.K. counter-terror program called “Prevent,” according to CNN. The report added that Prevent seeks to “educate the public about the risks of extremism and to identify individuals who seem ‘at risk’ of becoming terrorists, through a variety of public sector work.”

      Prevent is reportedly aimed at stopping people from supporting terrorism, or becoming terrorists themselves.

      “We are committed to using all of the tools available to counter the threat from terrorism in the UK,” said a spokesperson for the British interior ministry to CNN.

      Zinc Network, which was reported to have created Woke created for the British government, told CNN that it is “enormously proud of the work we undertake for our clients — providing support to communities, brands and governments to promote positive social change and tackle some of the most complex issues in the world today is the driving force of our agency.”

      The report added that the British government’s Home Office — the ministerial department which developed Prevent — says the counter-terror program does not target any specific demographic, and deals with “all forms of terrorism, including Islamist and extreme right wing.”

      “The Prevent program continues to play a vital role in this fight against radicalization and has had a significant impact in stopping people being drawn into terrorism,” said a Home Office spokesperson after being asked about Woke.”

    For the past four years, the national media have anticipated an outbreak of widespread violence instigated by President Trump’s supporters. It has never materialized, but the Washington Post on Thursday printed one more story about American minorities fearing for their safety from Trump voters.

    There isn’t a scintilla of evidence to suggest that the president’s supporters are anything but the most docile creatures to walk the earth. But why should that stop journalists from repeatedly claiming that every utterance out of Trump’s mouth “invokes fear of violence?”

    The Washington Post report, by Griff Witte, said that in Greenville, North Carolina, Muslims and immigrants were shaken by newfound “fears” that they’re not welcome in their own neighborhoods and communities.

    On Friday afternoon the New York City medical examiner ruled top US prisoner Jeffrey Epstein’s death a suicide.

    The medical examiner’s office said in a statement Friday that an autopsy and other evidence confirms the 66-year-old financier hanged himself in his cell at a federal jail, Bloomberg reported.

    Epstein was found hanging in his cell from his bunk bed with a prison bedsheet wrapped around his head, according to a law enforcement source who spoke to the New York Post.

    Epstein, who is 6 feet tall, reportedly secured the bedsheet to the top bunk bed and wrapped the sheet around his neck.

    Many close to Epstein fear he was murdered and CBS News, citing an unnamed source, also reported on Tuesday that “shrieking and shouting” was heard coming from Epstein’s cell on the morning of his death. The source also said they heard corrections officers saying “breathe, Epstein, breathe,” while trying to revive him.

    Following the release of the autopsy Jeffrey Epstein’s lawyers challenged the autopsy results.

    The lawyers are going to view prison videos themselves from the MCC the night of his death.

    Die Anklägerin: „Er sagte zu ihr ‚Schönes Baby, schönes Baby‘. Als die Geschädigte ihm erklärte, er solle sie in Ruhe lassen, stieß er sie zu Boden. Er leckte ihr Gesicht ab und drohte ‚Ich töte dich‘, als sie schrie und sich wehrte.“

    Der Mann soll Julia auch noch die Luft abgedrückt haben. Im Rucksack habe er ein verbotenes Butterflymesser, das später von der Polizei sichergestellt worden sei.

    Und dann das Entsetzliche. Die Staatsanwältin: „Der Angeklagte vollzog den Beischlaf mit dem Kind. Mit ihren 28 Kilo hatte sie keine Chance gegen den Erwachsenen, der 80 Kilo wiegt.“ Der Asylantrag des Afrikaners war abgelaufen. Seine Duldung wäre in der Woche nach der Tat ausgelaufen. Prozess wird fortgesetzt.

    “An Afro-Caribbean Amritdhari Sikh has described how his arm was fractured while being wrongly detained for carrying a Kirpan.

    Paul Singh, an Amritdhari (initiated) Sikh from the Midlands, UK, was detained by a police officer on Bull Street, Birmingham on 5th August. The officer handcuffed Singh and called for backup before releasing him without charge. As Singh knows, and was trying to explain, Sikhs enjoy a legal defence for carrying the Kirpan, a small sword worn as part of the Panj Kakkar (five Ks) Amritdharis are mandated to wear.

    The incident was recorded by a passer-by and uploaded onto social media where it went viral in the Sikh and Punjabi community. Following his ordeal, Singh spoke to Mohan Singh from the Sikh Awareness Society – a charity established in 1998 to tackle taboo issues of youth grooming and alcohol, drug, and sexual abuse which Singh works with.

    Singh described how he was heading to the gym just before 6pm when a police officer approached him and started a conversation about the Panj Kakkar. Singh said to the officer ‘I don’t want to get into it’ at which point he alleges the officer said: ‘No you have to answer my f**king questions’.

    Singh then described how the officer called for backup and put Singh in handcuffs as he was going to call his solicitor. Singh said: ‘It was hurting my hand, but I knew what he was doing he was trying to annoy me for me to kick off… but I didn’t.’

    Singh says then another police officer arrived who said that he shouldn’t have been arrested. He confirms that he has not been arrested or charged since.

    Monday was not the first time that Singh has been stopped by police for wearing his Kirpan. Police were called to his partner’s graduation at Bournville College and armed police detained him for 16 hours after detaining him at Birmingham New Street Station.

    Mohan Singh asked Paul Singh ‘Why do believe you’ve been targeted?’ to which Singh replied:

    ‘I thought it was to do with the video that the police asked me to take down of the paedophile that was exposed, which I refused to take the video down because if I do and a child gets hurt, that’s on me. So if I have to go to jail for protecting children so be it.’

    Singh added: ‘I’m not 100% sure… but I can’t think of any other reason.’

    After he was released, Singh noticed that his hand was swelling up and was in pain. He went to hospital where an X-ray confirmed a fracture. He has an appointment with at the fracture clinic on Monday.”
